I tried 2 degrees on mine and I couldn't keep the bike running. I am not through the break in period yet though. I also think I am running a slightly colder plug than I should be. Can you link the plug you are running?
I’m running the c9re, where are you retarding the timing? I’m only pulling that 2 degrees at 100% throttle, so it shouldn’t have any impact on running other than at wot.
Do you have the stock or aluminum ones? The aluminum looks cool but after what happened I wouldn’t recommend it. If all 4 aren’t torqued down (I think 18 ftlbs) it could blow the head gasket.
Great running bike ! How did you go about breaking this kit in ? I have same set up as you and 149cc bbk - the ported head and aracer5. I have the ecu flash from dhm and my piston burned up like your 140 bbk did . Can you help me out ? Did you use break in oil ? My kit lasted 250 miles ! One speed test and it burned up ! Thanks
What do you mean you have ECU flash and aRacer? It’s one or the other… no special break in process, make sure you gap the rings, mine were way too tight and likely would have failed if I didn’t file down. Vary the RPM range for the first 20 miles or so, don’t just sit in a single rpm range. More than anything, watch temps. Anything over 240f is too hot.
just ecu flash no aracer. I know my gaps were right Im a machisnt. Where is the best place to check your temp? Please post any problems with your build . thanks Mike
@@eastcoastish Yep that question was for Mike; without an oil cooler I can see his overheating so I wanted to ask. I'm thinking of doing the DHM kit myself.
I saw your original video of the dyno numbers with just the bolt on parts and from what i remember you were making like 13.5 to 14hp on stock bore. What made you go with the dhm 149 oposed to porting the stock head and keeping the reliability of 125 bore ?
Is it still running strong? I'm thinking of the tbparts bbk for my grom as even with my cam (thats supposedly 13-14 hp top end with minor loss in low-mid but idk if it really makes that much) I'm starting to get used to the power and being able to hold over 60-65 would be nice but idk if I wanna sacrifice any reliability for those few extra horses and torque. Also would an oil cooler be necessary, I live in a pretty cold/wet climate, normally 30-50 in the winter and maybe a few days reach 75-85 in the summer and ive heard mixed results when it comes to need for an oil cooler
Do you still run the 149bbk as a daily. I’m about to get a takegawa kit. The dhm kit I have nothing but detonation and rising oil temps at higher rpms.. I have all supporting mods and the aracer /af2 running the quick burn on auto tune with 93 octane gas.. do you have any recommendations? With your experience what kit do you feel is most reliable to just jump in and go?
If you’re really concerned about reliability, do not get a BBK. It just makes your engine run much hotter and you’re going to need an oil cooler for sure. Anytime you modify the stock motor, it will increase your chances of not being as reliable as stock. It’s just a simple trade-off. I am currently running a stage two and I’m pretty happy with it. However, I’m greedy. I will go with the DHM version 2 149 CC kit.
just bought the monkeyfathers all inclusive 149 bbl, Mate has one on his and oh boy its a huge difference, monkey fathers managed to dyne nearly 18hp with bbk, head and all the other goodies, apparently they'll be releasing a 4v head very soon that'l allow the 2022 to hit the 20hp mark!
149cc is the biggest for the 2022+ Grom right now. I have the Takegawa 181cc on my 2019 Monkey, which only makes a bit more power over all. I’ve ridden a few 250cc Groms, lots of power but takes the fun out of a bike that size in my opinion.
@@Bill-mw5ip I bet I could make some more top end power if I dropped in the s2, but I want this bike to be an all around rideable and reliable bike. The s1 is nice power throughout the band and that hp power curve is gorgeous 😍

I don't get it. Total amount invested over the original is over $1,500$ for +7 hp. The original is $3,500 + $1,500 = $5,000 for 17 hp. Net, too much effort and money just to get a mini bike to do +10 mph. Probably better to get a used bike for those $5,000. I saw a nice 2012 super tenere, 2010 VMax and newer smaller bikes for that money.
You clearly have not and ounce of sense bro. They nearly doubled the power of the stock engine….. untill you’ve ridden a 15+ horsepower grom/monkey I don’t think you should compare them to bikes with 10x the displacement
Thanks for showing us around the shop. The bikes are insane!!
16.9 woe,amazing,so 20hp is available whith mills in valves,..alloy rockers ect,the quest continues ..

Yes, Bbk was only change in those runs.
