POWERFUL message Stephen. I'm 44 , 6'4, 309lbs and I would love to get down to 200lbs. Your message in this video and others have fired me up to just stop making F'ing excuses. I cried while viewing the last video about mental health, wow, that was very powerful for me. Please keep sharing your life. Thank you. Errick in Memphis TN USA.
Errick you can do it. I was in a dark unhealthy place for many years. Addicted to drugs, overweight, unhealthy. Running has helped me turn things around. I’m training for my third marathon now. The hardest part is getting started, and you’ve done that. Just focus on those small changes and staying on track. You can get to 200.
Scull, long-time follower of the podcast and your career here. I've never commented on any of your stuff before, but this time I just had to. I listened to your episode on the Superspaiens podcast earlier today and then your own latest podcast episode straight after. Between the two of them they're hands-down in the top five podcasts I've ever listened to. So much brilliant analysis, insight, and hard-won wisdom. It's incredible how much in-depth sports science, nutrition, and psychology knowledge you have under your bonnet, and the down-to-earth, common-sense way you explain it all is the icing on the cake. All of that to say: I've been learning about running and myself and life in general from your podcast for over three years now, I appreciate you sharing your life and its lessons with all of us, and I'm glad to have you in my life as an example of an honest guy trying to be a better human every day. Thanks boss
I stopped chasing happiness and ironically am the happiest ive ever been. I turned my focus to meaning, because without meaning happiness is just self indulgence. Looking after my home, my partner and myself gives my life meaning and I couldn't be happier for it.
Buddy, what a gold mine you are. I think a lot of people have a lot of these philosophical thoughts, but you have a fantastic way of getting them across in a relatable, empathetic and humble way. Its almost certainly the accent. Chuckle. Thank you for these.
If you ever feel down or alone again just come back to this nice video, see how many genuine likes you have, understand that people from every side of the World like you and appreciate content you make, GET UP AND MOVE FORWARD because you can and you should continue making good videos! I love running because of running, clearing my head, beeing one with nature, I don't ask for more, results are just very nice side effect..🤗
This is a great sequel to your last video. Really appreciated the development of your previous thoughts and some insight into sports psychology and mental health.
good luck in dublin champ im training for dublin to always watch ur channel i suffer with mental health all my life im 58 now my brother took his own life last November last time we spoke he wanted to know how i got on in the marathon so im doin it for him this year keep fighting the good fight❤
F@cking love this mate! I’ve been struggling a bit in a lot of ways lately, but have also been training for my second ever marathon. Have just run it, run a PB, and hit a goal I wasn’t sure I could hit. The sh!t I was struggling was just sitting there, waiting for me after I’d busted myself for a run. Your words have just offered a perspective I wish I’d found long ago. Monumental on a very personal scale, mate. Thank you!🙏
Man will be fucking awesome to see you do Dublin again, we are all cheering for ya. I remember seeing you when you done 2.09 and it blew my mind. I'll be doing it too but don't think youll have me to worry about 😂
I can relate to so much that you speak about and I imagine I’m not the only one. What you say about being at your happiest when you are really applying yourself, totally rings true for me. I think there’s something that makes you happy when you can look yourself in the mirror at night and know you’ve given your all. PS - a night time ‘admin blast’ also works wonders for a settled mind! Hearing you speak makes me feel a lot more ‘normal’ and has really helped me to remember what’s important in life. MASSIVE respect Stephen, you continue to inspire x
I ran sydney marathon last sunday, when it got tough near the end i just repeated "your an animal" and it got me thru. Thanks for everything Stephen :)
I am beginning to understand just how complex it is for elite sports athletes - your honesty and seeing the reality of what it takes is really humbling. Although I could never achieve your standards regarding performance, it is possible to achieve your standards regarding personal discipline, getting out the door when it’s dark and cold, getting in the gym for S&C, top quality nutrition / sleep / balancing all these and more takes a lot of mental fortitude - power to you Stephen 😊
This message is powerful brother. Especially for a young father of two/runner here. The authenticity speaks volume and thank you for sharing your story and lessons from it.
Mate, you're not alone at it. Keep doing you and listen to your mind and body. You're a great person and desrve to be happy, whether it is in running and training or just in feeling great. I am experincing something similar, sometimes I don't have powers to get up or do my chores or just to stick up to a plan and I think back and have an internal conversation of why I am doing it. Just be aware of what your mind tells you and where it tries to guide you. I am with you sharing my best wishes. If you met this comment just know that you are not in it by yourself. Cheers!
I completely relate to this, including the getting the little things done. I know my mental health is suffering when I’m struggling to keep the kitchen clear I need to pay more attention to it to try to make the changes you talk about. Thanks for posting this. Good luck for Dublin
Thank you 🙏. This was a wonderful compliment to your last video and incredibly inspiring. Dublin should be epic for you! Putting a big goal like that out in public is an important step to achieving it.
Thank you Scully! This is just what I need. Your videos over the last couple of weeks have been very needed. We are in control of the way we feel, no one else has that over us.
Hi Stephen! Wanted to say a huge thank you for your channel and videos. Of the hundreds (if not thousands) of hours of triathlon and marathon videos I've watched, your videos capture the essence of running in the most practical, straight forward, and applicable way. My boyfriend and I have seen every single one.
Love this! The hard work is going to pay off. Since you are working at this intense level, would love to see what daily recovery looks like. We are all rooting for you!
See you at the Dublin marathon, you’ll probably be home showered and looking at your winners medal by the time I finish. But, your videos are helping me get off the couch and get ready.
I've probably watched every video on your RUclips channel and it's the best and most valuable series I've seen in a long time. You inspire me both as a marathon runner and as a musician (I am a professional double bass player and I face many challenges on my professional path). Thank you Stephen!
Thanks Stephen, your mental relationship with running and comfort generally is so similar to my own. It’s meant a lot to hear your thoughts on this and has given me perspective to make some positive changes in my life and for my running.
Hi Stephen, it is great that you share all of this with us ! Hope you get you qualifying time, and whatever the end result, it has been a great journey to share with us ! thanks man
Excellent, you are even back.more stornger in mind and physically. Remember that you are always incouraging, inspiring, helping and teaching many people. Therefore,Don't ever give up and continue with your hard work
You will get amazing support in Dublin and are more than capable of winning. Good luck with the rest of the training for it and good to hear you much happier
You inspired me stretch my calves before bed! "Because happiness isnt just going coming knocking, youve gotta go looking for it!" Great words Champion. Dublin sounds like a sensible goal-enjoy. Might attack the Dublin marathon myself next yr.
Great content Stephen. There's a quote I recently read from the Diary of Anne Frank that I think relates which is: "A quiet conscience gives you strength". Meaning here, if your room, finances, work life, relationships are squared away, then giving all of your attention and effort to running doesn't inconvenience yourself as much as it would have otherwise.
@StephenScullion What a turn around from last week! Way better mindset which I hope comes from a strong psyche. I think you will overcome your low points. Good luck in Dublin!
I needed this today, I am training for my Comrades Marathon qualifying marathon on 04 November and I have been pushing really hard and I’m feeling so tired and asking myself why I’m doing this to myself, but it does make me feel better knowing I’m not the only one that struggles sometimes, I just need to keep going, I must just get through the slump.
Fantastic, great to see you in a better place sir. Your brave and honest videos have inspired me to get a lot of my own shit in order and also to be much kinder to myself, as constant self doubt and being your harshest critic in a work environment is not a path to a happy life.
Love this Stephen. I'm glad you can see the way forward. Not running Berlin is definitely the right decision. I'm looking forward to following your journey to Dublin. Wishing you all the best 👍
Thanks for all running info. I wasn't an alcoholic, but even a few beers a few slowed me down and if course it affects the mental aspect. training is so much more fun and consistent.thankyou cheeres ☕
Amazing videos, and incan totally relate, its really close to home for me. Alot of ppl are struggling with many of the issues you have been bringing up!
Brilliant I'm doing the dublin marathon as well. It will be amazing to run in the same race as you. I want to run a 3:14 but don't know if I'm able might aim for 3:18. I have not decided yet. Will let my gut decide as my head thinks I'm superman. Running with a cold after night shift. But there's no better way to keep a pace than a pregnant wife minding a 3 year old expecting you home at a certain time. So my training is going as well as possible. Pitsznger 55 mile plan haven't missed a mile; 4 weeks to go now. That means a lot as was aiming for the Waterford marathon earlier this year, and 6 weeks out, got sick with bad cough and didn't make it. But I'm back now excuse me I have the dishes to do no electric dishwasher I have a Belfast sink because I think it brings the family together, drying washing sorting and it does.

Loved the message Stephen, I literally cleaned up my room after this video haha it’s so true though, all these small things add up to the person we want to become. Thank you for being so open about your thoughts really appreciate it 🙏
Good to see you getting deep into the grind again and looking forward to seeing you bounce back racing like an animal 💪 was thinking of this video on my HM session today, definitely helped with some positive motivation
I'd look the other way around...you have to knock the door of happines ...more just breake the door down and get it 🙂 just be happy Stephen I wish you all the best. Smash Dublin marathon ...you are powerful!😊
Hope your feeling better Stephen. Keep your head up son and you'll get there. Just keep believing in yourself and occasionally take time out to observe the beauty of your surroundings and fully appreciate life in general. I suffer myself with depression and often fall back on comedy. As monty python saids "always look on the bright side of life".
Disciplin rules. I go up the same time every day whether I work or not. If I'm not working I go for a jog. It's dark when I leave and daylight when I return.
Environment is everything. Maybe a bit too much lone wolf time. Youve eliminated unecessary distractions introduced healthy distractions (new scene , good people, new routine). Magic. Excited for ya. I live beside phoenix park , the home of running for Ireland i believe. Never lets me down :) if you're here and up for some training let me know.
Great stuuf again Stephen. Do us a favour and show us what you can do with exceptional discipline. This is very motivating for me in a completely different walk of life. Good job!
POWERFUL message Stephen. I'm 44 , 6'4, 309lbs and I would love to get down to 200lbs. Your message in this video and others have fired me up to just stop making F'ing excuses.
