It's genuinely funny you should suggest at 4:40 that it was easy to film because noone on set was laughing - I was one of the film extras on this movie, I spent a good four weeks on set in different scenes, and it was a widely agreed upon opinion among us extras that this movie was the most entertaining to be on. The courtroom specifically was difficult to film because the attendees kept sniggering at the masturbation jokes. Granted, we had reservations on set. We were confused about the time period (having seen props alluding to the Titanic, rumors of Einstein being a featured character, and obviously knowing this was all simultaneously Victorian England) and also about our relationship to Holmes himself, did we, the audience, hate him, love him, think him an idiot or genius? But we had such a good time shooting this, that when the movie came out, we all went to see it in the cinema, hoping to reminisce. Turns out, it was practically all re-shot and the only scene that remains the same as I remember was the courtroom; and even that was edited together rather miserably. There was a whole plot about the hooked man (not played at the time by Steve Coogan) and there was a whole car chase in a market, and the hooked man died in the crash, and the wreckage is where the threatening letter was found- like... where was all THAT in the movie?? We watched Watson homeless singing in the street - also cut. Watson actually made it up to the platform before his execution - also rewritten? So much we filmed was never in the movie and so many scenes were entirely rewritten. I'm willing to bet Mrs Hudson was never originally intended to be the mastermind in the end. It's such a bad movie. I obviously have no idea what their original cut would have looked like, but yikes. This finished version was apparently a better option? I'm stunned they thought half of this was a good idea.
@@bert1029 Thank you! There may be one additional story I could tell you- I often refer back to shooting one scene on this as one of my all time favorites to be a part of. The premise was that Holmes & Watson were celebrating something, entered a pub and offered to buy free drinks for everyone inside, and over the course of the scene, we gradually got more and more 'drunk'. What made it so fun to film was just the absolute freedom we had in the background to cause complete chaos. While at first we were all just in conversation with each-other, tankards of actual non alcoholic beer in hands, the ultimate drunk take had several ladies happily relieved of some of their costumes; a couple people pretended to be passed out with their friends playing a game of dominoes balanced on their foreheads, some gents sang sea-shanties, many told jokes, one fella climbed up and swung from a shelf halfway up the pub's wall, someone else was throwing playing cards out as if it were a stack of dollar bills; and my personal favorite moment, when O'Reilly and Ferrell themselves broke into a song, wrapped their arms around us and we raised our tankards to the studio roof and danced like we were in a bazaar Victorian moshpit. Brilliant memories. Shame none of it made it into the movie. And instead was replaced by a very short tavern scene after-which the two mains attempt to sext their girlfriends via telegram.

I wish John C. Reilly wasn't always associated with Will Ferrell as being a "bad actor". He's pretty funny playing Steve Brule in his T&E bits; Not to mention his supporting role in We Need To Talk About Kevin shows how versatile he can be.
I agree. John Reilly can branch out, and the guy's got natural acting skills and talents, and can give it his all, and go from comedic role, to a slightly more dramatic role, just like that. I was shocked to find that John C. Reilly was even IN more dramatic types of movies; and playing up more dramatic characters and performances in those movies, and the guy is relegated to being in the background most, if not all the time. It's a shame, he's overshadowed by people like Will Ferrell, who's not even trying or even being funny anymore. I mean; we all enjoy John Reilly as Dr. Steve Brule in Tim & Eric, as his standout tv show role, but i didn't know how versatile the guy was until I heard about it. I feel bad for underestimating his skill, and versatility. I definitely liked John Reilly in Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, because I thought it was funny, and John Reilly can really belt out a song, and sing like there's no tomorrow. That movie felt like a real documentary about a real person. But I haven't seen all of his movies, or even his more dramatic roles. I was even surprised to see him in Guardians Of The Galaxy, one of my favorite movies. I like how he's branching out, trying out new roles, and is more convincing and tries to not let his entire career be just limited to mostly the same type of role like, Dr. Steve Brule or the other dude in Talladega Nights or Step Brothers, and I like those movies. But I also like how John C. Reilly is trying out different things, trying to not let his comedic roles determine his entire career, and he's putting his efforts into pretty much any kind of role you see the guy in, whether it's a comedy or a drama. And he doesn't want to be defined as Will Ferrell's 2nd banana his whole life/career. He wants to be a big name, an actor whose name can carry roles, WITHOUT Will Ferrell overshadowing him, or his name being 2nd. Like how it's always "Will Ferrell & John C. Reilly", never "John C. Reilly & Will Ferrell", he clearly wants to carry things with his name alone, and not have to rely on Ferrell's. Because whenever they do team up for something, it's just Step Brothers or Talladega Nights, and they never try anything new or different, and I think John Reilly just wants to be known as a versatile guy, an actor who can be comedic and dramatic, and not just be known for only doing 1 type of role his whole career. And I think it works, for the most part. He's just more known for being in comedies though. Not that they're bad, it's just mainly the Will Ferrell buddy comedies that are the bad ones. And I like Will Ferrell too. Especially because of the strength of movies like Semi-Pro, Zoolander, Anchorman, Step Brothers, Talladega Nights, even Stranger Than Fiction and Blades Of Glory, and Elf. I know Will Ferrell can do slightly more dramatic roles, he did it in Stranger Than Fiction and Elf, and Megamind and The Lego Movie. But Ferrell's versatility pales in comparison to John C. Reilly's versatility. You'd think putting those 2 together would make something fun, and engaging, but this movie proves that just because you can necessarily put 2 good things together, doesn't always mean you should, or you'll get Holmes & Watson, the worst Sherlock Holmes related movie ever made. Sorry for the long rant too. Just a big fan of both Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly, well, not as big of a fan of Ferrell's as I used to be, but definitely a fan of John Reilly's. I should check out his more dramatic stuff sometime... because anything's better than being subjected to this. And I'm a fan of Sherlock Holmes movies and anything detective related, but this is just a bullshit movie, and Will Ferrell's worst, which is a new low, even for him. Sorry for these long rants. I'll stop now.
I watched this movie on release with my dad, because we're both big sherlock fans (read the books, watched the bbc series and the RD junior movies etc) and the movie theatre was the bleakest thing i've ever experienced. Not a single laugh could be heard for the entire length of the film, with the exception of a disabled man in a wheel chair in the front row. The experience was one of sheer, unaltered pain, with intermittent sobs from my dad and the spastic cackling from the front row. We came out of the theatre at about 8 in the evening and had to spend the next 5 hours drowning our sorrows in a pub.
You sure that wasn't Michael McDonald from MADtv? There was a skit with famous rappers and he's a talkshow host that gets too comfortable with them and uses the N word because they do and it backfires on him.
My 60-year-old Aunt loves all kinds of movies that I think have pretty simple humor, she loves the Minions. But even SHE hated this movie. That says something.
"It didn't even make me smile." is much too kind. I watched the first 20 minutes of this "movie" and angrier and angrier until I dove for the control, ejected the disk, and grabbed it to snap it in half, before I remembered it's a rental. Then I considered snapping it anyway and just paying the fine to save others and then remembered that there was a whole bloody shelf of them back at the store.
When I first watched this, it was on HBO and I figured "It can't be THAT bad, I like Will Ferrell movies. Sure Step Brothers is stupid, but... Prestige Worldwide!" My god was I wrong. This movie is the cinematic equivalent of having someone else crap your pants.
Will Ferrell is in a lot of funny movies. That doesn't = will Ferrell being funny. In every "Ferrel&reilley" team up, John C Reiley is infinitely better. Elf is a great movie, in that it's childish and aimed largely at kids, so the Manchild shtick makes sense. Most of the rest of his movies are nowhere near as funny as they're made out to be. Zoolander he's just annoying and obnoxious. Anchorman is alright(bit overrated imo) Walk Hard is easily the funniest movie of all time, and a HUGE part of that is John C Reiley being the lead role. I feel like if the world wanted to be honest, the two actors would be flipped, and Reiley would deserve the attention Ferrell gets. Yeah, I butchered their names multiple times throughout. Oh well.
This film made me so angry that when I was supposed to take the guy I care for with Learning Disabilities to see it at the cinema - I swapped my shift so I didn't have to watch it. The trailer was enough to boil my piss with rage.
These films are basically, everyone in the film inexplicably treats the main character as a famed & renowned person or a person with an impressive reputation when all they do is mess up. Its like a super dumbed down version of inspector clouseau in the pink panther,
Don't think it don't say it don't think it don't say it don't think it don't say it don't think it don't say it don't think it don't say it don't think it don't say it
I've never seen a more hated movie since Jack and Jill I haven't seen a single person defend this movie I'm actually curious to see if it's actually that bad
It's humilliating to think that even Bill Murray got confused with Etan Cohen's name and genuenly thought Garfield was being made by the Coen brothers 😭
Pretty sure his entire career is riding on the hope that enough famous actors won't bother to check their spelling when they get an offer from a guy they think was involved in making _Fargo._
I would love to see John C Reilly in a serious Sherlock movie, as either Holmes or Watson. He's got some seriously awesome chops. Seriously underrated.

He's brilliant and Stan & Ollie
*Happy Holidays Everyone* :)
Will Ferrell has probably been in about 4 good/ok movie's, and he's been riding that success for his entire career
*alex talking to himself but in a deeper voice for seventeen minutes*
Let's hope this won't get taken down 🤠
Hey will ferell isn’t always inoffensive! There’s that one skit where he says the N word multiple times and that’s the joke
What
I second that what
Is it in Get Hard? (I've admittedly no memory of what happened in that movie, all I recall is that it's a Rob Schneider ripoff)
@@anikmonette2140 it’s from the 90’s I think, or early 2000’s Saturday Night Live
You sure that wasn't Michael McDonald from MADtv? There was a skit with famous rappers and he's a talkshow host that gets too comfortable with them and uses the N word because they do and it backfires on him.
"He's bit off more than he can chew, and he's barely even taken a bite."
- IHE (I think, their voices are kinda similar)
that was beast himself not ihe
I’ve been waiting for this one, this is going to be fun to watch
IHE summons his younger self to watch a movie.
I get more excited by the trying to watch more than the search for the worst for some strange reason
I like that Hugh Laurie is only known as the ant from monsters vs aliens
Now I know what to do for the next 17 minutes.
"What do you think the last joke is going to be?"
Brave of you to assume there would be a 'first' joke.
I love these videos, I've probably watched the Not Cool one like 10 times. I hope they do more.
Prestige Worldwide!"
My god was I wrong.
Anchorman is alright(bit overrated imo)
Walk Hard is easily the funniest movie of all time, and a HUGE part of that is John C Reiley being the lead role.
The trailer was enough to boil my piss with rage.
how come u capitalized learning disabilities

Me rewatching the Trip and A Bit of Fry and Laurie:
“Man these guys are comedic geniuses!”
Me watching this:
“...who apparently need some money.”
I can't distinguish between the 2 of them, to me it's just IHE talking with IHE
Watch JAR media and you will be able to put faces to the voices and you will tell them apart. They do podcasts every week
Ihe has a deeper voice
In light of the reoccuring " alex is talking to himself" jokes, I'm a jar fan and i appreciate jamies imput fr
I was worried you weren’t gonna upload for another couple months
It's a Christmas miracle!
Can't wait to see James Corden's Sherlock Holmes movie next year!
The Bosh oh god that’s a thing?! Noooooooooo Stop destroying this icon of literature with shitty adaptations!!!
Lol
No
bruh im drunk af i can still tell the difference in their voices Alex's voice is deeper and more vocal fry
It amazes me that you have a shred of sanity after sitting though all these movies
Feels like it's been forever since the last trying to watch, good to see it back
I don’t think I could ever bring myself to watching this.
Thank god that Trying To Watch is back.
To be honest most of Will Ferrel’s movies suck....
Don’t you dare insult Megamind
all his movies suck*
Or Elf
mega mind is amazing
I had a blast watching Anchorman.
These films are basically, everyone in the film inexplicably treats the main character as a famed & renowned person or a person with an impressive reputation when all they do is mess up. Its like a super dumbed down version of inspector clouseau in the pink panther,
I'm so American I can't tell their voices apart...
French Canadian here: I'm constantly confused by their voices even after 4 plus years of being IHE's fan!
I’m English, and have lived in England since birth. I would not know this was two different people talking.
I get the same way with Ridley Scott and his entire family.
It must've taken Alex a long time to record two commentaries that speak to each other with perfect timing just for this bit
5:40 I can’t believe you guys forgot to put up “ELF” in Will Ferrels movie category! It’s LITERALLY the best Will Ferrel movie!
I love you IHE I was just lamenting yesterday about missing your uploads~
why does ihe always get sponsored by ball razors
...rapier wit and all that
Good to see you uploading :)
Is he talking to himself like Pitch Meeting?
The suggestion of Coogan and Brydon playing Holmes & Watson is actually very good. That would work
Just the thought that the man that made Elf and Megamind, the *masterpieces* that they are, made this
*THIS*
But Elf sucks
@@MochaRitz sure dude. It’s considered one of the best Christmas films of all time, but sure.
@@MochaRitz no it doesn’t
Not the worst, but best? Far from it. A mediocre time waster, no more, no less.
well.. he just starred in those movies he didn’t necessarily make them.. but yeah this is still trash garbage
Come on! The kid looking like John C. Reilly took me by surprise and to be honest, it had the funnies
Trying to watch this movie is frigging impossible
Happy to see my man at it again
Don't think it don't say it don't think it don't say it don't think it don't say it don't think it don't say it don't think it don't say it don't think it don't say it
My god Watson! Look at the size of this...

"What's the final joke gonna' be?"
Interjecting Beer Commercial:
~"More than a feelaaan', YEAH!"~
The one that sounds dead is IHE and the one that sounds more alive is James that's how I different their voices.
I just came by to make sure IHE didn’t die of boredom... we can’t have 2020 be any worse
I forgot this channel existed lmao. So glad I am still subbed
I’m proud to say that I can actually tell their voices apart nearly 100% of the time.
The estranged Coen brother joke was the hardest I've laughed this week lol. I love Jamie and his delivery.
It's telling when the B-Roll YOU captured of JUST the blu-ray case has more thought and effort than the movie that came inside of that case.
I've never seen a more hated movie since Jack and Jill I haven't seen a single person defend this movie I'm actually curious to see if it's actually that bad
11:00 ouch, referring to Rob Brydon as English
🤦🏻♂️oops
Merry Christmas everyone!😁✨
It's humilliating to think that even Bill Murray got confused with Etan Cohen's name and genuenly thought Garfield was being made by the Coen brothers 😭
Pretty sure his entire career is riding on the hope that enough famous actors won't bother to check their spelling when they get an offer from a guy they think was involved in making _Fargo._
This movie and Operation Raccoon City were some of my all time favorite media.
I would love to see John C Reilly in a serious Sherlock movie, as either Holmes or Watson.
He's got some seriously awesome chops. Seriously underrated.
Imagine The Rock as Sherlock and Kevin Heart as Watson, lmfao
My favorite critic man is here!
Plot twist: The other guy who watched this with him was himself
