One issue: you missed that the second x16 slot actually runs in x4 mode. MSI should have made it look like what it is (x4) and moved the BIOS battery over there in the cleared up space.
Also to further answer ur comment Yes we do agree that that slot should have been physically a PCIE x4 open-ended slot instead of a PCIE x16 slot That would have saved space for the CMOS battery to go there, while at the same time allow for those who want to put a PCIE x16 device into that slot (abeit running at PCIE x4 speeds)

Say if I have a 4th gen Ryzen CPU and it's already installed onto the motherboard, can I still do BIOS flashback to update the BIOS? Or does the update have to be done without a CPU?
Yes it should work. Ryzen 5000 CPUs (like your 5950X) work on B550 platforms. As for your 7900XT, I am not sure which model you are gonna use (cuz of size), but make sure your mobo is fastened well, and your case is big enough.

Great review, thank you!
Thank you D T. What did you like about our review? :)
Great review. I will be buying this.
Cool man! Thank you for your support Kinyanjul! Let us know when u get it :D
@@RealMelTan Already bought. Awaiting shipment
Its White or Silver Gray?
The motherboard? It is more silver gray to me.
thank you very much , is it compatible with Ryzen 5 3500X ?
Thought you were spittin some lyrics as soon as the video played
HAHA what lyrics?
Between b550m mortar and b550m steel which one better for r5 3600?
Cool whats your budget? Just checked, the steel legend seems to have more ports.
Can I flash the bios to the latest version for my RyZen 5600X?
I have replied to u haha
It looks like the B550 chipset is a little short on PCIe lanes. I bought the ASRock B550M Pro 4. The secondary M.2 has only 2 lanes and they're shared with SATA 3/4. Even though I can still have a second M.2 PCIe SSD and still use the PCIe x4 slot, I would rather get all 4 lanes, so kudos to MSI.
Hello, does the wifi on this board support 5GHz or just 2.4? Thanks
Hi Wispe, this board has support for Wifi 6 - so it should work for both 5 and 2.4Ghz :)
@@RealMelTan thanks!
B550M PRO-VDH WIFI MAG B550M MORTAR WIFI MPG B550 GAMING EDGE WIFI what's the different???
Hi Yicong, may I know what features are u looking at?
Good work man, keep it up.
Cool thank you Kayo! What did u like about this review?
Im using b450 gaming pro carbon wifi but im thinking of moving to matx now. These is one of my top choices just cause its white, to match my case. Any other great choices of board?
Hey man great review! Im building my first gaming pc and I am going to be building in the Corsair Crystal 280x White colour. And I was debating on this motherboard or the “MSI MPG Z390 GAMING EDGE AC LGA 1151 (8th/ 9th Gen CPU) Intel Z390 - DDR4, PCIe 3.0, 2xM.2, USB 3.1 Type C - RGB and RAINBOW LED, ATX Motherboard”. Which one would you recommend? This one or the z390?
Thinking of using b550 mag mortar(non wifi) over b450m mortar max for my ryzen 5 2600.
Will it suffice sir? Thank you
No, as I understand it b550 only supports ryzen 3xxx processors and up. They will not support the old cpus
Thank you Dru for this reply, yes the B550 boards do not support ryzen 2000 CPUs :)
One issue: you missed that the second x16 slot actually runs in x4 mode. MSI should have made it look like what it is (x4) and moved the BIOS battery over there in the cleared up space.
Gordon here
I actually did mention that the 2nd slot is PCIE 3.0 x4 at 4:15
Thank you Gordon for this clarification :)
Also to further answer ur comment
Yes we do agree that that slot should have been physically a PCIE x4 open-ended slot instead of a PCIE x16 slot
That would have saved space for the CMOS battery to go there, while at the same time allow for those who want to put a PCIE x16 device into that slot (abeit running at PCIE x4 speeds)
Dude could you PLEASE try a Ryzen one chip with this board? There’s other RUclips videos of other b550 boards working but I want this board specifically. Would really appreciate it
Hi Tech, which Ryzen 1 are u looking at ? :)
@@RealMelTan i have an 1800x :) why so?
@@techbuildspcs Ok cool man! just checking. We have to check and get back to you.
RealMelTan thanks! Can’t wait for the answer.
@@techbuildspcs No guarantee, it depends if we can get our hands on a ryzen 1800 or something. haha :)
This is a good channel. You earned a sub!
Thank you Alvin for your sub! Keep watching our videos! Have you seen our review of the MSI Z490 Ace?
MSI MPG X570 Gaming Plus AM4 AMD ATX Motherboard vs MSI MAG B550M Mortar AMD Micro ATX Gaming Motherboard which one best???
does it have a tpm 2 or you need to get it separately?
16gb ram 3200mhz can overlock this motherboard?
Does the wifi on the b550m mortar wifi the same as on the b550 gaming edge? Btw, this is a great video!
Say if I have a 4th gen Ryzen CPU and it's already installed onto the motherboard, can I still do BIOS flashback to update the BIOS? Or does the update have to be done without a CPU?
Hi Joniro, I have just checked. If you want to use a Ryzen 5000 CPU, you do not need to install the CPU to perform a BIOS flashback. Thank you.
Which version of HDMI and Display Port it has ?
Hello ,I have this motherboard and I want to put a ryzen 9 5950x and a rx 7900xt in it. Will this work ?
Yes it should work. Ryzen 5000 CPUs (like your 5950X) work on B550 platforms. As for your 7900XT, I am not sure which model you are gonna use (cuz of size), but make sure your mobo is fastened well, and your case is big enough.
is it good to buy it for ryzen 5 5600x and rtx 3080?
what is the temperature of the vrms in an overclocked 3900x?
Hi Everton, unfortunately we did not manage to take the temps for the VRMs. If you ever do, we will let you know :)
Does it have hdmi 2.1 or not?
Hi Mihail, it is HDMI 1.4, not 2.1 :)
I have searched info about this board and its says that the tdp is 65w what does that mean? there are cpus that this board cant handle? Nice video!
Hi Sergio, thank you for your support! 65W TDP usually refers to the CPU. 3600 and 3700x are 65W TDP, while 3900x and 3950x are higher.
Here is the list of compatible CPUs:

@@RealMelTan understood, thanks for answering!
it's kinda strange. normally msi board is packed with check pattern printed vinyl.
Perhaps they want to try something different this time? Although it is still labelled a "weapon" :D
I dont know if i should buy b550 mortar or b550 tomahawk??
Whats better b450m mortar max or b550
mag mortar? (Non wifi)
Hi Keesh, I would say the b550 is better now, cuz u have a gen. 4 support for the first PCIe x16 slot and m.2 slots.
Is there any WiFi problem out of the box ??
Hi Devil, as commented, no issues with WIFI :)
Does support ryzen 7 2700 cpu?
Can you review MSI B550-A pro or MSI B550 Gaming Plus ?
Gordon here
Both of those motherboards are not available here in Singapore at the moment
the lowest-end B550 ATX from MSI available here is the MSI B550 Tomahawk
As to why this is so, i am guessing that for their feature set to price , you can get similar from the B450 Tomahawk Max or B450 Gaming Pro Carbon Max Wifi for significantly cheaper
Awesome! Thank you Gordon for your input!
B550 gaming plus sucks in temperature if you over lock or even normal usage soo don't buy that
@@gocool003tamil2 I have the MSI B550 Gaming Plus and have no temperature problems. My desktop case has 4 big ventilators and the cpu has also a 3rd party coolblock+ventilator. TurboBoost on, testing , temperature below max.
Does it have Bluetooth 5.1 on-board?
I love the way this guy speech its fast unlike the other youtuner who speaks super slow
Cool man Genesis! Hope you don't find it too fast ! Gordon and I speak well but clear too :)
More subs to come dude i really appreciate your work
does this mb have msi mystic light ???
Hey we tested that in this video: ruclips.net/video/AdW8idR0Ykg/видео.html
You can take a look :)
It’s possible to connect 2 displays on it ?
Hi Highlights, it depends on what GPU you are using? Most modern gpus would fit on this board anyway, so yes i think 2 displays work.
RealMelTan thanks for the reply I’m already fix that I have a ryzen 3300x so the hdmi port on the motherboard don’t work for that gpu i fix that buying a display port adapter to hdmi to conect the second display in my RTX 2060 the first display I connect the hdmi directly on hdmi port on my RTX
Does it come with screws and everything like other motherboards
Hi Sultan, it comes with a pack of M.2 screws like most other motherboards :)
I want to ask ; i will using ryzen 5 5600 in the Mag B550m mortar MAX Wifi ,in the website says its should get the BIOS version update 7C94v1B .. so should I get that version (7C94v1B) or the latest one (7C94v1K) ? thank you.
If the latest one is not a beta, you can use it :)
