  • Hey house lovers and explorers! :-) Thanks 'Tamara" for the tip off :-)
This video we take a look through 3 homes with the first an immaculate and great example of contemporary 50`s design which could be considered mid century modern without being to over the top futuristic.
The home has been well maintained and most likely a long time owner who really loved the place but unfortunately now the property is in the hands of developers and it`s future is doomed with new plans for this site.
The second 2 homes are also in great condition are are both late 20`s bungalows. These homes I have had on file for a few years now. Both seem to have attempts and renovations but again a better offer to give up and sell was evident.
Hope you all enjoy the tours. Thanks for watching :-)

Pomegranates in the first tree. I don't agree with lame' curtains. They are what we used to call antique satin. I just don't understand tearing down perfectly fine houses. Progress!! I do love your videos!

First home appears very solid, a possible easy renovation project to update and return to its former glory. The backyard us huge, understandable an attraction for developers looking for maximum returns on investment. Shame it isn't a corner allotment as the previous owners could of subdivided the block, possibly saving the orginal home. My parents live in rural SA and their home, built in the 50's but regularly renovated, has a very similar sized yard. Not unusual for their suburb or the era. Great for young kids, grand kids running wild, teenage parties and storage of vehicles, usually against Dads wishes. Dad has now build a massive workshop for vehicle restorations in his retirement. Great memories ! Second home is in a similar position. Little structural damage or failures but huge backyard, which is the real selling point of both properties. Another unfortunate loss. Another great explore Paul.👍👍🇭🇲

This house a beautiful and clean. All it would need is a good cleaning and people
could move right in. I didn’t see anything wrong with this home. The real estate
photos were beautiful. Just a note, in the USA it is not uncommon to have a
half bathroom right off the front door. Some of the videos I have seen in Canada
some of them do too. Another great video. Thanks for showing us this beauty.

Those curtains could be considered made of lame [lah-MAY] fabric 8:03 That 1/2 bath off the front entry would be considered a 'powder room' 10:00 here in the States. Basically, for when you're entertaining guests and serving copious libations as a place to relieve themselves without having to traipse throughout the entire house to the other bathrooms. Or, for the ladies to 'powder their noses' which had an altogether different connotation in the 1940s versus the 1980s! 😁

Lame has metallic threads. Antique satin has a definite sheen and what are called “slubs” or thicker raised threads, sort of irregularly spaced, running through it. The fabric is usually cut and placed so that the slubs run horizontally.

It is sad to lose the history and use of these old homes, Australia seems bent on removing that portion of it's past so it can develop high density housing. While they achieve a false economy on infrastructure, outlay They cause other problems, I for one would find that unpleasant, UN-liveable and annoying, Living in someone else's pocket is a rotten lifestyle.

The first tree is a Pomegranate. Tasty fruit. Pain in the behind to get the edible bits out. Has a lovely scent.
Second tree looks to be a crabapple. Young crabapples have a fur like substance on their skin that they loose as they ripen. The shape is a give away.
Not edible. Usually planted just for looks.
That house is just too darn cute.
Looks like it was very much loved by its families. Pity it's going to be torn down. Still looks very liveable.
    Love the massive yard.
Second house is what they called a Bacholars Home. Very lovely looking home. Probably aged from 1930-1935.

I love pocket doors that slide like that. Makes the living room seem more grand. Some of the really old homes have them that are made out of walnut or mahogany that are 10 feet tall. They just aren’t made like that anymore. I’ve been wanting to ask you, have you ever been creeped out by a house? Seen or heard movement, or voices, shadows? I love looky-looing via your camera, but I’d be scared to go by myself!

@@CaliAnimalLover My brother-in-law took an old cupboard from a house that was falling down and they figured no one would mind, given the house was a goner. Took four men to lift it, but they struggled to get it out. When they got it to their house, weird things started happening. Women in the house would feel their legs being touched up and shadows would appear in one of the bedrooms. My now wife, got pinned to the bed one evening and couldn't move when she was visiting and staying in the bedroom nearest the wardrobe in the hall. They got someone in and they said the spirit hadn't wanted to leave the old house and was centred around that wardrobe and that is why it has been so hard to move. When they moved it, they moved him with it and he wasn't a nice spirit, nor happy about the move. They ended up breaking up the wardrobe and burning it. Everything stopped after that apparently. So this is a long way of saying that perhaps in some circumstances what is there moves with what they salvage from the house or moves on when the house is demolished.

The first home is immaculate. The real estate photos are so beautiful. A loved home, such a shame it will be demolished. A massive yard too. The second tree you looked at is a quince tree I think.

We appreciate your videos Paul. I was from Adelaide originally and moved to Mt Gambier about eight years ago, so it’s nice to see some of the familiar type of homes. We are thinking early 50s house based on light switches and the wiring for the lights/power points seemed to be added after it was built.
I have been to a 40s house that had an original en-suite (Urrbrae) but generally quite rare. Would have been quite fancy to have a guest powder room. The fruits are pomegranate and quince.
Love your videos and once again thanks for your efforts in putting them together.

Time to change the Planning Code, to stop the wanton destruction of such important houses, front and back gardens are vanishing..and sad to think that kids will not even know what a Pomegranate tree is....a simple thing...but concrete boxes are changing everything, and not for the better. Growing up with space, trees, a place to play in safety, to have pets..developers are deciding how people should live. Jam an many people in a space as possible....

Hi Debbie! :-) I like that you highlighted the fact that kids will know know a front or back yard to play in and grow up in. I cant imagine my childhood without it!!!! And they 30 year development plan for Adelaide plainly and clearly states that by 2050 front and back yarded homes will be only for the absolute wealthy.........how sad. Things need to change, people crammed in continuously for the sake of "economics". Thanks for watching :-)

What a shame, cant these homes be relocated as a company does over here? I liked all the homes my favourite would be the first one though :) I have pull down lights in all the bedrooms an electrican advised me to keep them so I did.

    • @urbexindigo5164
      @urbexindigo5164  2 года назад +2

Hi Wendy, others have asked this and to do this in the suburbs would have to be done dismantling the home completely and moving it in many sections which is just not viable to people who can knock it down and start again. My Grand Father used to move old weatherboard homes for a living but they could be either moved as a whole home or cut in half but there was always huge problems going through towns so that was avoided when ever possible. I will do a video on him doing this too :-)

@@urbexindigo5164 Yes it could end up being an issue, The other morning which was about 2am a truck went past me carrying a home on the back followed by other trucks etc. They put the house into a paddock and left it there, the next day the house was off the truck and onto some sort of piles. Very interesting how these house removal people manage. :)

Is it typical in AUS to not have the toilet in the bathroom with the shower and tub? I find that odd, and to have the toilet separate without a sink to wash one's hands is confusing to me as well. Stoves were left but no refrigerators or dishwashers? The grounds are absolutely stunning, but inside the layout is like a maze or a fun house, no logic.

G'day Paul, still slowly working my way through some of the best offerings on YT (yours!). @ 17:14, I reckon that fruit tree is a quince. The Olds had to boil the bejeezus out of the quinces for hours before they become edible. Quince jelly on bread & butter, or stewed quinces & cream. Yum!!! Very filling... Real "early settlers" fare...😋😋😋

Are the walls really purple? The drapes were custom made. I believe they're polyester. The kitchen counters look like Formica. I still have some in my house. The area off the front door is called a cloakroom, I believe. I lived in a house in the UK that had one just off the front door, too. So people didn't have to go thru bedrooms to use the loo.
This would be a dream home for me. The floors alone sell it. This house would sell for close to a million here in the American southwest.
