Muted, bright, I just love colour!
Thank you for sharing my Ultimate Palette! I hired a handmade watercolour manufacturer here in the UK, so they are still handmade just not by me, but the colours are my own creations.
Love your round swatches, how do you get them so perfect?! 😍
In terms of muted or bright, hmm if abstract then muted, otherwise mostly muted with bright details. Does that count?! 😁🧡
You've done an amazing job on your watercolors! I love your color choices 🥰💗
@@chels2145 thank you! 🤗🧡
That's a great idea! I was wondering how you managed to make so much paint! They're beautiful colours. Thank you so much or giving me the opportunity to try them! LOVE those earthier colours particularly. x
Mostly Muted, but I do enjoy Brights. When Alonya released her tube paint set, she said that when she was hand making her paints, it was a lot of work. She found someone that makes paints in tubes and does it for people that have small batches. She worked with them to make the colors she specifically wanted. I think that is what she said in her video when she first introduced them. I am hoping she puts out more sets down the road with other colors. I am not sure I would use some of those colors so I haven't ordered the set. Thank you for swatching them out.
That's really interesting, thanks Kathleen! I must confess that I hadn't watched that video, and then when I received these I made a conscious decision not to watch Alyona's videos about this palette until after I'd used it. I wanted to come to it completely fresh and without any preconceived ideas. They're really lovely paints!
Both really, depends on what I'm painting. Thanks for sharing, Natasha.
Bright! And Muted! Great video Natasha thank you 🌼💚
Brights, you can always mute them when you want, but you can't make muted bright.
The white nights payne's grey is my favorite, sennelier is second. I love doing monochromatic paintings with payne's grey.
Having a swatching tier is such a cool idea!!
Thank you! :)
Yes, I agree
I like color. Bright, pastel, fluorescent, metallic, earthy, etc. they are all useful to me but I'm not a professional artist yet, so I'm having fun with them before I have to be concerned with lightfastness. My goal is to learn as much as I can about watercolor, gouache, acrylic, and oils. Then, I'll be able to figure out which is the best medium for me. I'm having so much fun with all of this, and you, Natasha, have been a great influence. Thank you!
That sounds like a lot of fun, Patricia!
Love that you're now a designated " water color collector ". Like a historical building... you're the same ... but official!!! And why not, I say!!! We all benefit from your swatching.. plus all that art therapy !!!❤🎨🖌️👀
Some people collect handbags, shoes, cars, stamps...I collect watercolours! Seriously though, there are so many beautiful colours out there - how could I not? x
Bright! If have to decide for only one...but I love to vary depending on my mood and the one I want for my painting
I'm neither muted or bright. Actually, I don't even paint! 😆 I clicked based on the thumbnail alone and was not disappointed. I really enjoyed the blue/grays, they were so lovely🥰. Off subject...may I say your penmanship is outstanding😃
Thank you so much, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Watching people buy watercolors has came an obsession for me haha. Love watching and hearing about all the different brands and colors 😍😍
Muted! And in some works adding an accent bright colour. I really enjoy your videos and I have learned so much about watercolours and colored pens from them. Thank you
so much Natasha for your kindness and effort to use your time making these videos!
Thank you. Love your voice.
Thank you!
Bright! I always feel like I can mute the bright colours if I want but I can't make the muted colours more bright. That being said, I love a good Payne's grey.
Bright!... and Muted! 😊
Best of both worlds!
I love muted colours but with a small splash of bright :)
Aww I love that you love MN Pipestone - I live in MN and I didn't think I'd like it at first either 😊 i just found your channel so I'm not sure if you have this color but DS Mayan Blue is a gorgeous moody granulating blue and is so amazing alone and mixed with DS Lunar Black or even teals and purples. I'm 1000% muted & moody 😅 can't wait to binge the rest of your videos. They're so chill and i could listen to you talk about watercolors all day. And dont feel bad - I've recently told my partner that i collect art supplies, and he rolled his eyes...oh well, welcome to the dark side 😀
Welcome to my channel and I hope you enjoy the other videos! I did have DS Mayan Blue in the past and now have DS Mayan Dark Blue, both beautiful colours. :)
oooh - this was lovely and now I want a whole bunch of new colours! and we use the same brushes! Ill have to message you about that.
Brights! But I have a use and enjoy/like muted colors: Potters Pink is one of my favorite.
Muted! Loved the blues greens and grays that you swatches!
Bright ! Nice swatches
Bright! Love muted! However I find myself reaching for bright ones majority of the time
I prefer muted colours 😎 And thanks so much for naming the pigments again - so much easier for “us collectors” to spot new paints to add to our own collection 😊
Bright! But because of you, Natasha, I switched teams to muted!😊
And, respectfully, may I add: my word, you girl can free hand circles, wielding a watercolor brush no less- like I breathe air!!
Thank you for a lovely, very relaxing and interesting video. Warm hugs from California ❤
Ah, thank you! x
Aaagh! I can’t choose!! I love both muted and bright 😅😅😅
I’ve got 71 Michael Harding and dare I say they are probably the finest watercolor I now own! Chromatically unique as well as beautiful to mix and work with! Get more, you’ll love them and you will be ecstatically inspired😊❤❤❤
I'm certain I'll buy more of them! I'm really impressed with the 2 colours I have. :)
Great video Natasha Windsor Newton.
I love muted colors and the white nights paint was my favourite.
I have started leaning more towards muted colors but I still enjoy some brighter ones if they fit the piece.
Watercolors are beautiful paints, especially the artist grade. So I can't fault you for collecting them!
Muted. So glad to see cotton papers for the swatching, it really makes a huge difference to the ultimate outcome. Woodpulp papers have their uses and are excellent for gouache and other media that lay on top of the paper. I missed out on the swatching offer but am so happy to hear that you will be buying/showing more watercolours.
I really love cotton papers now, they're beautiful to work on.
MUTED! .. & that cosmic blue is yumscrummydumshuss!! xx xx
It's very special, isn't it?! x
both bright and muted! Loved all the grays
Muted! Loved your selection today. Alas...I find it so hard to freehand circles which you do beautifully 😁
Thanks Lesley! Some of them were a little bit wobbly but it all adds to their character! ;)
I love the muted colors! And I am trying to convince myself that I have enough paints… for now.😊
Team muted! (mostly). I genuinely am a colour lover and want them all! lol!
Bright!
Bright! Though inspired by you I am being drawn to the more muted side. And super excited to receive first dot cards! 🦎
I'm super excited to make them and send them out! x
Bright! Surrounded by muted colors, because they're so interesting together
I want to try different greys too... and I agreee on the watercolor collector thing.
I have more watercolors than I need but they are all fun to use at the same time. It's a problem...
Muted with an occasional bright 🌞 also - I love your long videos ;))
I'm so glad you like them! Thank you. :)
Lovely video as always. i love muted colours !! or pastels with a bit of glitter. These colours are amazing. I have the derwent drawing pencil set and trying to get the palette in watercolours !! Enjoy your weekend
The Derwent Drawing set is SO gorgeous, and would make a wonderful watercolour palette!
Bruted! That is a new word for bright! AND muted 😊
Senellier's Van Dyke looks quite like Caput mortum. You might like it.
Muted! The QoR hookers green and the Sennelier caput mortum are a must for me. Also on my list are the Joseph Z's grey, Daniel Smith's black tourmaline, and Michael Harding cosmic blue. I absolutely love watching your swatching videos. I think it's time I re-swatched all of my colors. It's so much fun. Like you said, it really teaches brush control when doing circles.
Thanks Kate! Swatching really helps you to understand your materials more, and to get a much better sense of the colours and their characteristics. Like you say, it's also a lot of fun (and super relaxing too)!
Muted! As usual, I love your selection & swatches. 😊
Sometimes Bright! and sometimes muted! but currently favouring brights 😄
Hi Natasha! I think the round swatches are my favorite 🤍
I also enjoyed seeing how you swatched Alyona's watercolours. That chartreuse is so amazing 🤩
I watched twice because this was too good 💕 I don't consistently favor muted or brights because I feel the bring out the best in each other. So Both!😅 I enjoy using colours that suit the season or my current mood though.
Thank you, I'm so glad you enjoyed it! x
Loved all these Natasha you do the best ever shapely swatching this time perfect circles 🔵 🔴 💜
Thanks Deborah! x
Love all colours; that is wátercolours!
Muted!!! Woke up to this find this video and that's the best wake me up. I also like a pop of bright colour peeking in on an otherwise muted colour palette. Thank you for this most soothing video.
I agree with you about the pop of bright colour in a muted palette! And thank you. :)
Muted! I do really enjoy your swatching video and they are a company wile I paint. Thank you for mentioning me, how exiting is to see you try this paper and swatch a lot of pretty colours! I thought you didn't have ds violet raw umber, specifically checked several of your videos before sent you dot card, but here you are with new paint, what a coincidence! :) All the best to you!
Thank you so much for the beautiful paper, I really love it! Your videos often keep me company while I work too. :) (I don't know how I missed this comment - I'm so late answering it!)
I like a balance between bright and muted colors.
Love all the greys and blues and greens. And i can't stop watching your videos. Could do this for days. Thanks
I love both muted and bright! :D
Muted and bright I think, just love colour I suppose, hence why I enjoy your videos so much, thanks Natasha!💖
I'm so glad that you enjoy them, thanks Rosie! x
Brights particularly blue
Minnesota Pipestone is a very special stone, soft and easily carved. It is a beautiful color.
I loved it in a wash, in particular!
Muted! and Bright! I love both, but it depends on what I am painting and what type of colours best express my idea, sometimes I will use both in a painting, but of late muted just edges out, especially dark muted colours.so nice to have a mini haul and swatching video,it seems a while since you posted one.For me it's just as exciting to hear you talk about the colours you choose and how you will use them in your stunning artwork as it is to see you swatch them. The colour dot reward for patreon is an inspired idea, maybe you could set those members a challenge to create a painting using only the colours on the dot card and post it online.I love that A Gallo makes metallic watercolours now,as you know I love metallics, but many are not light-fast,.I research colours too, especially metallics to find ones that are light-fast.Its great that Jackson's now sell the A.Gallo paints, but I must admit I did feel a little disloyal/guilty about not buying from A.Gallo direct, but in the end shipping costs meant it is cheaper to buy from Jacksons.Krilsis just uploaded a great video on ways to choose colour palettes that I think you would find useful.(Matt)P.s I think Michael Harding has a RUclips channel too where he makes paint.Being a watercolour collector is a great thing to be,maybe that makes you an artist collector too!
That's a good idea for the dot card, Matt! I'm so glad that you enjoy this style of video. :) I need to watch Kriksis' colour palette video - I've been saving it for a quiet moment when I'm in the studio this week. :) I'll have a look for Michael Harding's channel too!
@@NatashaNewtonArt I think on Jackson's youtube channel there is an interview with Maichael Harding that could be worth a look too.And I got an email from Jackson's to say they now have Michael Harding tube watercolours and sets on offer.(matt)
I would love when the dotcards maybe match to a video f.e. favorite color combinations, an piece of art you work on at the moment, matching the art prompts...only ment as an inspiration. I also loved your blues one and I think you have also planned some other gorgeous ones. 🙃
Muted! Bright! I can’t choose!!!
Brights I really like these. I don’t use muted shades much but I think I need to try them.
Muted with a pop of bright! I love your long videos 🌹🌠
Thanks Debs, I'm so glad you enjoyed it! x
Bright! However, I do like muted colours, too, especially when they are granulating! 😘 There are only a few colours I have that I am not in love with, one being the DS Alvaro (Castagnet) Fresco Grey. But perhaps I just have not found the best use for it my painting since I don't do city scapes like he does! Don't ask why I bought the paint in the first place. 😅
For your sample cards you may wish to print them but you would need a back-feeding (possibly waterproof) ink-jet printer. I plot my swatchcards on my Silhouette Cameo (hobby plotter) with a waterproof pen (uni-ball AIR micro). It may be a bit of an expense at first but if you are going to carry on doing this, may be worth a thought.
I use my plotter a lot for making other projects like custom cards so the expense was more than justified for me. Other painters/creators use it to make their own stickers with their art works, too.
😍🤗🥰😘
I'm curious about the Fresco Grey now! I don't have a printer at the moment, so for now the dot cards will all be labelled by hand! I've never heard of a hobby plotter before! xx
@@NatashaNewtonArt It's quite a blue grey. I could send you the tube (minus one pan - I fill all my paints into pans.) if you like.
I loved the Cosmic blue.
Muted!! So many beautiful colours will have to add more to my wish list haha. Gutted I didn't get the chance to join the swatching tier but so very glad you still enjoy adding to your watercolour collection 😍xx
I can't wait to share some of these with the Swatching Club! I hope that you're able to join at some point, Jeanine (if you want to). xx
Muted! All day long-though the occasional tiny splash of orange, red or turquoise really brings a painting to life!😊
Agreed!
Muted! I discovered your videos in August 2022 and it always puts a smile on my face seeing that we share excitement for muted and granulating paints 😊
Oh, that's lovely! Thanks Sabine. :)
Muted! My favourite was the Caput Mortuum. I just bought the granulating watercolours from White Nights, they are very nice and inexpensive compared to Schmincke. So I feel you when you can´t stop buying new colours. =)
I can´t wait for the first dot card and March, being your patreon is lovely.
I'm so glad that you're enjoying Patreon, it's lovely to have you as a patron! I can't wait to make and send out all of the dot cards. x
I love colors, colors, colors!
For my art, I often lean to muted, but red is fantastic at this time of year❤
This is my first timevat your site and absolutely love how you did your color washes. I just received my first set of 34 colors and l definately need to do this also. Thanks so much for sharing. 🌿💞🌿
Muted definitely 😊 thanks for swatching these …
I'm such a watercolour collector "junkie", I keep saying like chocolates I will never know what I love most until I try them all.. I love both muted and bright depending on the situation. I wish Alyona brought these colours out in half pans with the aud they are over $150 to get. I have two other of her sets and I long for them but it's not my birthday until June. Thanks for the beautiful swatching, I'll keep saving up $$ to collect more to try
Muted! (Although…there are some brighter colors I love, too…) Tgank you, Natasha! Can’t wait to see what you decide to send on the dot card!
I can't wait to make them and send them out to you all! x
Bright ! :) Awesome video ! Thanks as always!
Thank you, I'm so glad that you enjoyed it!
Muted! + earthy colours :) That QoR Ardoise Grey looks lovely. I have the Holbein Shadow Green and prefer it to Daniel Smiths Perylene Green, its a deeper, slightly more neutralized colour.
They're both lovely colours, aren't they!
Both bright and muted, depending on what I'm painting. I love nearly all colours.
I am team Muted! But a little bit of brightnes here and there.😂 I love your swatching videos, they can never be too long!
Same! And thanks Viola. :)
Bright! But love muted too, if that counts lol
I’m Team Muted! And what gorgeous colors you swatched! Each one was prettier than the last! I’ve seen the Michael Harding colors and I’m so glad you swatched them. Stunning!
I’m so excited! I’m excited! You posted!!! 😁😁😁
I love the Caput mortuum. It’s my favorite, but I’d definitely love to try black tournamine.
Aw, thank you!
Muted! Although I do love a bit of brightness as a pop of colour. Your swatching ideals are so soothing and a feast for the eyes ☺️
Thanks Amanda! I'm so glad you enjoy them. :)
Muted! And Bright!
Muted! Great relaxing swatch and some colours on my wish list. x
That's good to hear, Michelle! x
Both! Depends on my mood at the moment...😂. Great swatching.
Thanks Gail!
Bright! and Muted! Depends on my mood
Of course I always finish and it’s definitely Muted!! Lovely swatches as always, sweet lady…
Nancy Rolfe
Thank you, Nancy!
Bright ! + Muted ! 😊
Muted! I love the A. Gallo Naturale colors. My bright palette is Roman Szmal.
I have one of their Naturale palettes and I love those colours!
For the first few years I just bought watercolors recklessly (mostly buying what I was drawn to). I found that I like moody, stormy colors with brights for contrast! I really love my palette ✨✨
That sounds lovely!
Bright and muted😂!!!❤😊
The cosmo blue reminds me a bit of Jayne’s grey or a burnt umber with a beautiful French ultramarine blend that granulates. I love the plum colors like Perylene Violet and to make a transparent sort of buff titanium color that is transparent one can mix Perylene violet with Quinacridone Gold (nickel azo yellow and burnt orange) and the compliment mix will give a color similar to the color of a paper bag playing with the amounts that of course cancel each other out. It is so much fun isn’t it? I love learning to mix the different cool and warm greys. With time it comes quick to mind and although I love my convenience mixes it is fun to come up with one’s own lightfast ones and layering them is another beautiful thing. I just call myself a pigment watching junkie.😊
Your Yeti is not distracting. Looks cozy. Please do not mind wearing it.
Oh I just started watching and have to say I was very pleasantly surprised by light grey from Sennelier, it’s just a beautiful granulating grey and it makes the most wonderful mixes.
I've yet to try it in mixes, so I must do that! A beautiful colour. :)
Both in balance! ;) Thanks for the beautiful swatching video!. I related to the philosophy of embracing watercolor collecting if it brings joy. (I'll be on the waitlist for the swatching tier should spots open up on Patreon.) I loved the Qor Ardoise Grey and want to get it; it was suprisingly granulating! :) I also have the Qor Earth set as well so am using the tin it came in to build a little brand specific palette with full pans. I just added Quinacridone Crimson, Diarylide Yellow, Ultramarine Blue, and Dioxazine Purple. I really like the Michael Harding South African Landscape and Neutrals sets that i got from Jackson's; they have a MH sale this week!
I'm using the little tin from the QOR Earth set to store all of my QOR tubes of watercolour! I don't have that many at the moment so they still fit. :) Love your idea of using it for a brand specific palette too! I saw the MH sale...so tempting. ;)
Moulin Du Roy is one of my fav papers ❤️ Bright! And Muted!
Lots of goodies! Love getting new colors and being so excited about them. Lovely assortment you have!
Both depending on my mood and what im painting
ooo haven’t seen this all yet but im very excited!!! gonna swatch some of my own paints :)
I hope you enjoy it!
very much so!! your videos are always so relaxing as well as informative and high quality! I was really surprised by the sennelier light grey, I love the touch of blue from the ultramarine in it. it reminds me of the tyrian cobalt purple from stoneground paint co, one of my new favourite paints✨ muted! colors are my faves lol
@@verditerthistle Thank you so much! Tyrian Cobalt Purple sounds lovely. :)
Love Minnesota Pipestone❤
BOTH!!!!!
