    It's like that in the U.S. too. I'm from DC and there are some rich, touristy areas and then there's the poor areas. I love Panama.

    The bad part of town you were in is El Chorillo. The buildings you said looked all burnt look that way because they actually were burned during the US bombing of Panama City in 1990 to capture Noriega

      Case in point, we're still speaking English which doesn't belong on the land, 4 centuries later. And that's not even included in the destruction of this land and people that are still destroyed today.

      Great point, America committed acts of terrorism that were even more fatal (deathtoll 4,000) than September 11, 2001 (deathtoll 2,977) ...in a nation whose people they've been exploring and whose land resources they've been plundering, and economy they've been sabotaging for 87 years beforehand.

      Excuse my english, I am not an english speaker, i used a translator to clarify you a bit. That is not El Chorrillo, that is a neighborhood called San Miguel and it is dangerous. The place where the video ends is called Q street and to the left of where OSH is there is an evangelical church

    Unfortunately that is not the Panama Canal. You are actually at the El Mercado de Mariscos. Located at the entrance of Casco Viejo.
    A very cool area in its self, however I sure hope you made it to the actual Panama Canal. It is one of the most spectacular thing to see while in Panama.

    I m glad that you enjoy the beautiful Panama but as far as the prices go you are a foreigner and you are in heavy tourist area where you will get the “Gringo” prices and you don’t speak the language plus you said it yourself that you are there for a short period. The mom and Pop spots are the best for your buck. Visit Toboga Island I had a lobster plate complete with everything for only $8.00 dollars fam. I love Panama my wife is from Panama so maybe that’s my advantage. Peace and Love ❤️ enjoy.

    Good video. Panama is a small city and some of the tallest and newest buildings are located in an old neighborhood, even Old Town area, years ago was not a place to be around. In the area you were riding bycicle still a mix of new buildings and really old buildings.

    • @overlookresident9862
      @overlookresident9862 2 года назад

      It is not a small city. it is actually quite a large city but you stayed was around the financial district I’m assuming so the vast majority of the suburban population is to the east and north east of Panama City. In fact even across the canal, La Chorrera and Arraijan to the west of Panama City even makes Panama City look even bigger with a metro of just about 2 million people.
      So it’s not necessarily a Mexico City in terms of population. However the city is quite big an area stretched out.

    You're right. In other countries those people are banished to the fringes of the city so tourists won't see them and think it's nice all over. The problem is still there, but out of sight.

    One of the many problems no one addresses is the Panamanian currency. Although Panama has its own currency (the Balboa), however, Panama also uses the U.S. dollar. The Balboa to U.S. dollar exchange rate is 1-to-1, which doesn't make since when it comes to GDP. The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in Panama was worth 52.94 billion US dollars in 2020. Compare that to the U.S. GDP in 2020 at $20.93 trillion. So how did the 1-to-1 exchange rate balance off? Someone with subject matter expertise in economy explain this...I am not convinced that Panama is the best or most beneficial place to retire. Healthcare and medical services outside of Panama City is horrible. DO NOT expect hospitals outside of Panama City to have the same quality. Start asking what expats do not like about Panama...

    • @suizod
      @suizod Год назад +3

      The Balboa in reality doesn't exist. There are only Balboa coins which are the same size as US coins. There are no Balboa banknotes. The US dollar is the official currency in Panama, just like in Ecuador and El Salvador.

    • @tulbanemoore8405
      @tulbanemoore8405 Год назад

      @@suizod The 'balboa' is the "official" currency of Panama. Look it up. And in reality, the balboa exists. One of the many reasons why Panama is using the U.S. dollar bills is because of an agreement between the U.S. and Panama. Additionally, Panama does not have a central bank to print balboa bills. If I compare a can of Coca Cola from Costa Rica for 500 colon (US$ .97), from Panama for U.S$ 1.50, from Columbia for 4000 pesos (U.S$ .95) -the message is Panama's economy and GPD is as good as the U.S....which is bullcrap and that is why many Panamanians recent expats living in Panama. As one local said it, "gringos live better than us on our land."

    • @suizod
      @suizod Год назад +3

      @@tulbanemoore8405 the Balboa exists on paper, yet there are no Balboas in circulation (except coins, which outside of Panamá are worthless). The Panamanian economy is based on the US dollar, hence the US dollar is the official currency.

    • @tulbanemoore8405
      @tulbanemoore8405 Год назад +1

      @@suizod That’s not true, I crossed from David (Panama) to Costa Rica and exchanged 20 balboas in coin at a bank in Costa Rica for colons. If the Costa Rican bank recognized the balboas and accepted them, that makes balboa outside of Panama not worthless.

    • @suizod
      @suizod Год назад

      @@tulbanemoore8405 you didn't exchange your coins in a bank but in currency exchange at the border and I bet they where mostly US coins. Try exchanging Balboa coins or even US coins for that matter in San Jose, or anywhere else that's not near the border, nobody will take them.

    Everything is more expensive in PCity because there's a hella lot of $$$$ in PCity from all over the world. Econ 101> as the amount of money available to spend rises so does the price of everything it buys.
