How to write Prog/Math Rock Riffs like Chon/Covet/Ichika on Guitar

- Hey Guys, In this video I tried to make a riff sort of in the style of Prog/Math Rock bands like Chon, Covet and even Ichika (although I don't know if I'd really call him Math Rock). The riff was my attempt to try and merge their styles for fun, and then try to describe what was going on in my mind while I made the part. Yvette Young from Covet (I think) only uses open tunings but I still tried to squeeze a bit of influence from her in there somewhere. Have fun playing the riff. Tabs and a play through are at the end. If you would like a pdf of the tabs message me some where on social media and I can try and email them to you :)

This is the future of guitar imo. Tim Henson and Ichika Nito have really turned a lot of heads.
so good! totally started hybrid picking because of this
Thanks for checking it out!
I started hybrid picking because of Rick graham
I loved the whole “let the riff write itself” idea, sometimes stuff just sounds better with 2 chords and that’s fine!
Learn these chords Maj7, Min7, Maj9, Min9, Min11, Sus2, Sus4, Maj7sus4 Maj7#11, add9, Min6 Dominant 7 and 6 and 9, Major6/9 and learn how to finger tap, finger pick and play in odd time signatures and you'll be sounding mathy in no time.
Idk if your a pro or not but i will learn all of this chords just to play like ichika! Thanks for the advice
Thank you man! That's exectly what I've been waiting for!
Thanks for watching! Hope you liked the riff :)

You should try out some open tunings too I suggest FACGCe or DAEAC#e
Hi, sometime I mess with them on my own. Maybe I should make a video about some fun ones I use.
Patrick Teaches the World yes plz do!!

Ok I am hoping this one does ok...check out my 2 handed tapping video as well...it's in 4 so not really Mathy but it is still pretty fun :)
@@PatrickTeachestheWorld Yeah
I just ordered a 4 pack of thumb picks off amazon:)
Cool, You might like to trim them to the size and shape that you prefer. I used toenail clippers and a nail file to sand them smooth.
Didn't like math rock?
