  • In this video I give an overview of one of the most vital stylistic tropes of math rocks riffs: slides! Slides are used in pretty much all forms of contemporary math rock guitar, meaning it's really important to pay attention to how they are used and how to use them.
This video discusses some easy applications of the technique so that you can get that math sound.

Just using slides Noah! Start on one note, pick it, and then use your right hand to slide down to another note!

how do you make your taps so loud and clear? When I try to tap you can barely hear the note, no matter how hard I hit the fretboard.

Pratice practice practice. A compressor can help

Compression brings quiet notes up to regular volume. it's how tapping works

Try tapping closer to the frets. I'd wager that you're more in the middle of each fret which can seriously limit the volume in your notes. Get right up to the frets and you'll get a louder, articulate, sound without needing to use nearly as much force. Hope it helps!

Also, if you’re using a double humbucker style guitar your notes won’t be as bright and clear as with a telecaster. It’s why pretty much every math rock/emo guitarist uses one. I just got one a couple weeks ago and my taps sound WAY better, it was a game changer.

@@Nickoli789 I have to disagree in this, Dylan Mattheisen uses a double humbucker telecaster

Slides into arpeggios are very commonly used in Smooth Jazz and Pop Rock.
