Im bouncing around channels trying to convince myself to add a Q3 to the arsenal for a little more "fun" camera but I had to stop and comment on this. This is a really great video. Very relaxed presentation style but without rambling...you're keeping it moving forward with information. The examples are absolutely fantastic too - side by side examples of *specific real world* scenarios. I've watched a lot of mediocre camera videos in the last few days but this really does stand out as exceptionally well produced. Nicely done!

Hi Alex, thank you so much for this very informative comparison video. I didn't think I would upgrade my Leica Q2 but after watching the differences in highlight and shadow recovery I started thinking otherwise.
Thank you! This was exactly the comparison I was looking for. I shoot a lot of street with the Q2 and the banding in the shadows gets me sometimes because as you indicated I set up about half a stop under exposed. Really nice work.
Great video! Despite the improvements you cover, not convinced that it's enough to justify the upgrade, especially if video is a non-starter, and the tilt-screen isn't important to you. Also, have never had an issue with the battery life on the Q2 or the screen.

"This is the way!" how comparisons should be done. 😉 Liked and subscribed of course. - That look thing at 1:18, I wished they integrated the in body profiles first into the raw, such as Std, Nat, BW nat. etc., like it's available in the raws of all other brands do also.
I have to query the shot with the girl, the whole image from the q3 is of lesser exposure than the q2 which is automatically pulling back your highlights (?)
Great work as always. While many RUclipsrs still open the box or talk about their first impression. You already go to the next step comparing Q2 and Q3. When I know the spec. of higher resolution of Q3, I have a big question about noise in low light. And you just blow away my doubt. I just sold Leica SL2-S in this morning. It it my best camera so far but not the right one for me. It is too big and too heavy to carry everywhere. Even SL2 can change the lens but I can carry only one lens of 35mm and mostly leave my 50mm and 85mm at home. So I decide to go with Q3. It seems like mini SL2-S with one lens 😊. I already order it and I probably get it in mid of June. Again thank you for your effort making a good video for us.

Good review, only thing that in real life you have only one photo, and if it's boring- no one will care bout amount of details on shadows. Same works if it is great.
Nice comparison… I have the Q2 and perfectly happy with it! The Q3 may get much ( maybe) but the Q2 is still a great camera with that lens. Be safe, Cheers..😊

Yep so far better AF for certain but not yet in the same league as Canon or Sony’s. I bet firmware updates will further improve it though to get mostly there.
I own a Q2 and although I like the camera, I find the exposure metering indecent. I also own a Sony a7R5 and this one outclasses the Q2 in terms of exposure metering. Any outdoor portrait backlight puts the Q2 in crisis because the use in spots causes the highlights in the background to burn out. To be honest even the automatic WB is questionable. Regarding AF, I just hope that inheriting the Lumix S5II's AF might have improved the Q3's AF performance. The Q2's FW updates brought improvements to AF. Unfortunately Leica implemented functions but the accuracy and reliability of the AF are poor and certainly not worthy of the cost of this camera. However, I'm curious to try the Q3 to evaluate the change. Q2 is my everyday camera Thanks for your work Alex.
Excellent video, no excitable presentation, just a matter of fact video, great. Subscribed. Q3 is a great upgrade but not for me. Q2 is perfect for me. With all the new upgrade it does not warrant a change. Video, is a non starter, I shoot only stills. Would have preferred a Visoflex adapter than the tilt screen for the amount of tilt I need to use on my Sonys. Also spoiled the ascetics ,Q2 is more beautiful. Would have preferred a lower MP sensor, 24/36mp perhaps. Since I have had my Q2, I still need to improve my photography than need to upgrade, Just my personal thoughts about both cameras. I have this camera as well and I think your assessment is spot on. The Q3 is a solid half a stop better ISO and 13 more megapixels. Also better dynamic range that is actually quantifiable as well. I’m seeing the difference and I really enjoy it.
High ISO shadow recovery on LR with SL2 and Q2 sensors looks buggy. Try with C1Pro. Way different. Not sure why but you probably noticed when raising shadows on Q2 at high ISO there is like a point where it just flips out and introduces tons of buggy noise. C1 Pro doesnt
@@Bryan-lu4du No actually. Its really something to do with the Sensor used in the Q2 and SL2. M10, M10R, M11, Q1, Q3 never displayed the same "bug". I say bug because its obvious how the noise jumps suddenly when raising shadows in LR with Q2 high ISO files
Have you compared the dynamic range at 60MP vs 36MP. The M11 supposedly goes from from 14 to 15 stops when dropping the resolution. Would be interesting to see a comparison on the Q3

A nice upgrade isn’t a needed upgrade 🤷🏽♂️ I think the Q3 specs looks great on paper but if you can find the Q2 USED for a good price i would still purchase the Q2
Long time subscriber, love your videos. Now looking for my first leica. What would be really awesome and i can't find it anywhere done properly just like in this video is. Q2 or Q3 vs M10/11. More importantly i see a lot of people saying the q2/3 lacks the leica 3d pop, the microcontrast you pay so much for. I've seen some photos which aren't really apple to apple and cant draw proper conclusion. So i'm here to ask you, please do this comparison. Or maybe if you dont feel like doing that, you can tell me whats your experience in the matter with a comment. @@ABarrera That's not what I'm referring to. In Leica's press materials to reviewers they claim that using the lower megapixel DNG pixel binned options increases dynamic range and lowers noise. @@ABarrera The statement in that video doesn't actually address their claim which is that the Q3 gains an additional stop of dynamic range when using the S-DNG and M-DNG over L-DNG. Lightroom can't miraculously gain an additional stop of dynamic range from a raw file that doesn't have it. I brought it up because you specifically tested dynamic range in your video and if you're going to do that it's worth testing dynamic range across pixel binned versions since Leica is explicitly claiming an additional stop of dynamic range. It's fine though, my Q3 arrived this morning so I'll just test myself.

Am I crazy or does that last photo you shared look wider on the Q2? The odd thing is left to right it’s the same view but the depth (top and bottom) of the photo looks different. Is it possible that Leica included more correction to the same lens to get an actual 28mm focal length this time? What are your thoughts?

The Q2M will still have the advantage in high ISO. I would say in the lower ISO range the difference is smaller

Great review! How would you think the image quality would compare to Sony A7R IV?
Q2 battery life is longer and for an extra $3k, I can correct anything I dont like in post processing.
Im sold watching this I need to upgrade. As a package this will soo improve my photography by 100%. Leica take my money

Could have been movement from hand holding or the tripod. They are the exact same lens and have the same corrections.
Please do a comparison of the video functioning of the Q2 vs Q3.
I am not sure there is a comparison. With the new AF and ability to shoot log the Q3 is a far superior camera.

They made a better camera with the Q2 (than the Q) with everything except the actual picture? You pay double for worse pictures?
In my country the difference between Q2 and Q3 is $2500...I think those improvements doesn't cost this amount))

Q3 is simply overpriced. A Q2 is absolutely sufficient to take beautiful pictures. For video? Nice gimmick, but the Q3 is not a video camera.
In short: buy the Q2.
