They served as religious leaders and treated as equal with the people's political leader back then. They were also perceived to have knowledge most people don't have. "Siya'y naging siya at patuloy na nagiging siya." Even pronouns in our own language are a manifestation of gender equality. Nung dumating lang ang mga Espanyol nagsimula ang Adan at Eba.

Hindi rin ako sigurado kung may mahahanap ka bang any sources about gender equality in literature sa pre-colonial period. But I'm sure na baka meron sa ibang periods since doon lang talaga sumibol ang literatura. Pwede niyo po akong punahin 'pag may mali akong nasabi. Good luck na lang po at galingan!
