The new M2 Air with its thin bezels, equally bright screen, 1080p webcam, MagSafe and extra usable port while charging for the same price for the same spec just makes so much more sense. It’s even $100 cheaper if you get the 8 Core GPU, but identical to this Pro when you get a 10 Core GPU, but that’s still a win for the Air over this 2016 era laptop.
I feel like if Apple keeps releasing the 13 inch MacBook Pro, they should just rename it to the MacBook SE, since it seems to be following the format of the iPhone SE. The “MacBook” was an ultralight machine, and this 13 inch is not that.
Thanks for showing Real World tests such as opening Google Docs and spreadsheets. This is far more useful than just showing benchmarks, which just about every other RUclips channel does. Again, thanks ❤️👍
.... that's not true. MaxTech shows off both benchmarks and real world tests. Better yet they have chapters for everything they do, so you can skip to the specific real world usage that you want to see... the verge doesn't even use chapters forcing you to watch the whole video. subpar quality
The comparison in terms of pricing to the 14" is also weird. Like for the 512GB model of the 14" you only pay $100 more and get a WAY better machine in every possible way. And even with 1TB it's "only" about $300 more which isn't that much at the level of money we're talking here to begin with. Like is seriously someone considering an 13" MBP that's objectively way worse just to save 15% short term?
I heard that over 80% of people buying the Air and MB Pro 13 just get the base config, so comparing to the MB Pro 14 is moot for the vast majority and really pointless other than if you are agenda driven. Most people that can afford the $2000 MB Pro 14 will just buy it as they need the extra power, and most people just wanting an ultrabook will just bag the cheapest base version. So your comparison is lost on me as it makes zero sense and is more like trying to be negative than make sense. I buy an XPS 13 because I want cheap entry and do not need max specs but if I booted and suited that up it would come close to the XPS 15, so does that make the best selling XPS 13 a waste of money? No.
@@chidorirasenganz Close in CPU stats only. It still has half the memory bandwidth (100gb/s for m2 and 200gb/s for m1 pro) which is significant. That’s fair. The pricing is only within a few hundred dollars of each other. In my region the price is ~230 USD which is a bit higher but your point still stands. I think that’s the strategy that apple is intentionally doing, which is to have a more powerful model within a reasonable “up-sell” price so that people will go “for x amount of money I’m getting a computer that’s way better so I’ll go with that one”.
Processor updates are iterative, and speed and efficiency increments are a good thing. No one should be upgrading their computers annually anyway. But this MacBook should just be killed anyway it makes no sense alongside the new air.

she said nothing about how M2 has dedicated encode decoders for pro res while the m1 does not. this is a big deal for people that work with pro res but do know want to spend the extra $ to get a 14 or 16" pro.
The M2's GPU is 35 percent faster than that of the M1, according to Apple. But the M1 Pro, with up to 16 GPU cores and way more memory bandwidth, is about twice as fast as the M1. So expect the M1 Pro to still come in around 40 percent faster than the M2.

It would be nice to see if we can have a comparison.
Thank You.
Very disappointing review. Unclear comparisons and poor explanations.
Brilliant intro 🤣🤣🤣
What if I don't need the GPU for work? I still have to pay for the GPU...
but M1 doesn't support multiple external monitors, that's really bad
So she is saying apple should not have updated the macbook pro and just left it.
Could've just shown FCP export times.
Does this video suffer from heavy compression artifacts or is it just me?
Making photo black and white in photoshop? that is the test? come on
Bring back Dieter this reviewer is terrible 😂
This lady reminds me a little bit of Rose from The Last Jedi
…. The real world test was a google doc?
Ait I’m out
This machine would have benefited by having two more USB-C ports on the right side. Just saying
Why does the video have soo much noise in most the clips?
your editor forgot denoiser in premier pro. its a bit noisy
Whats the animation playing at 7:47 looks awesome !
Everyone should get the Air. Case closed.
thank you for the real world examples
Som e of us prefer the Mac with the Touchbar.
she said nothing about how M2 has dedicated encode decoders for pro res while the m1 does not. this is a big deal for people that work with pro res but do know want to spend the extra $ to get a 14 or 16" pro.
How are programs like Avid on the M2
The M2's GPU is 35 percent faster than that of the M1, according to Apple. But the M1 Pro, with up to 16 GPU cores and way more memory bandwidth, is about twice as fast as the M1. So expect the M1 Pro to still come in around 40 percent faster than the M2.
WOW! Fantastic video. Thank you so much.
I hate the notch and will never buy Apple product that has one, but buying a classic yet dated design in 2022 at this pricepoint is... uninspiring. So I guess it's cheapest possible MBA M1 from Ebay for me.
Honestly, it's for touch bar fans.
I think people forgot there's people who actually prefer touch bar, or have not enough money "save some" and buy better MBP. For the second case people suggesting MBA but, why? Why suggest Air to the person who moved to Pro?
Watching from Macbook air 2015
hmm the gpu won't matter because you can't game on a mac anyways
i think i'm sticking to the macbook air m1 but... so tempting... maybe in the future they'll improve mac gaming
