You Bet Your Life #60-02 Fenneman on the psychoanalyst's lawn chair ('Clock', Sept 29, 1960)

  • George Fenneman completely steals this week's show. Groucho subjects him to being psychoanalyzed on national television by Loriene Johnston in the second segment. His reactions, not to mention some of his one liners, are priceless.
    The first couple is returning from the prior week. It seems that last week they were sent off to conduct an informal poll on marriage, and are back to present their results, but they don't take the quiz again here. Tuulikki returned yet again the following week with her husband, Milon.
    NOTE: I'm posting this show a bit out of order because it was just requested by the daughter of Tuulikki Woods in a comment on the last video. She said her parents are 85 years old and would love to see these three shows. I just wish I had the other two. If anyone else out there does have them, please get in touch!
    COUPLE #1: Tuulikki Woods / Sam Rifken
    COUPLE #2: Loriene Johnston, psychologist / John Reeves, vice president of a mobile home manufacturing company

      If you have a Facebook account and have any interest in checking out our little group on there, we'd love to see you join. But regardless, thanks for leaving the comment!

      +Groucho Marx - You Bet Your Life Hey, thank you! Someone suggested that I interview her and post it, so I will. I'm still looking for the episode previous to this and the one following. I do have a rusty VHS version of when my dad joined Tuulikki and they won some money! I'd like to put all three together for a gift for them...I'll see you on the FaceBook page!

    I remember my parents watching Groucho and we would laugh because they would laugh...and sometimes my mother would laugh so much and so hard we thought she might die right on the sofa. Now, as an adult, I understand the insane humor or Groucho...and I love it. And, while I an offended by the ill-treatment of women, I think the #MeToo movement has ruined classic humor. And, George Fennemen was one o the best "Straight-men" ever.

      @Virginia Morrison Yes! I see the U.S. at a very fragile threshold and change is, and has been for decades, needed. But I see the "Rush" to change---knee-jerk reactions instead of finding what will work. Camden, N.J. is a wonderful example of real change.

    George did very well under the circumstances. The psychoanalyst parody was a good idea on paper, but more than likely to fail on stage as the lady did not have a script to follow, and Groucho didn't seem to have many jokes lined-up. Fenneman saved the day.
    I might add that Groucho seemed tired, most noticeably in his voice -- probably from his insomnia.

      Glad to see such a comment by a woman. Today, few women know what a dress even is, and wouldn't be caught dead in one. If women only knew that their greatest asset is a man's imagination, and they do themselves more good by covering it up rather than flaunting it, especially those who's figures are anything but flattering.

      No, you're not being pushy. I appreciate the enthusiasm, and I regret posting the shows as slowly as I have been. I also run the What's My Line channel and it's taking up pretty much all my time these days. It takes a good deal of time to write up the episode descriptions for the new YBYL posts, which is what holds up my posting them more often. All I can tell you is I'm doing the best I can, and since I don't have all that many shows left to post, the slow pace is probably not going to change.
      I'm really glad you're enjoying the series. Obviously, it's one of my all time favorites.

    A Dilettante Presumptuous Theorem: The True happiness of a Man was (and still is?) the most important thing in life to teach young women in Finland Sept 29, 1960. A Feminist wants to be equal with a man. Well, why would a Feminist want to be equal with a man when a Feminist Hate how men are? Feminism lead to the destruction of the family as we can a test to in 2019. It's too bad feminism didn't mean being feminine. The trouble with Feminists is they don't understand the difference between Freedom and Loneliness. Groucho Marx - You Bet Your Life Shows are quite revealing.

    • @parsonscarlson7984
      @parsonscarlson7984 2 года назад +3

      So true, feminism has nothing to do with being feminine, it is a actually a rejection of the main role of women. 7th Day Adventist pastor, Doug Bachelor, in his personal testimony shows a picture of his mother as part of a feminist march that made the papers back in the 60s. He said she was a big part of the feminist movement for many years, but finally got fed up with it and divorced herself from the movement. He quotes her as saying, "The majority of the feminists are lesbians that want to be men." His testimony and many of his sermons can be found online. He has also written a book based on his conversion experience called, "The Richest Caveman." I haven't gotten hold of a copy of it yet, but plan to soon. On the flip side, a wife is not a man's slave nor a personal sex object. The Bible has this to say about the husband / wife relationship. "Be subject to one another out of reverence for Christ. Wives, be subject to your husbands as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, His body, and is Himself its Savior. As the church is subject to Christ, so let wives also be subject in everything to their husbands. Husbands, love your wives as Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her..." (Ephesians5:21:25). No marriage can be truly successful unless there is mutual love and respect for the other spouse. Further, a true, biblical, God-honoring marriage is between a man and a woman, not a man and a man or a woman and a woman. That is the work of the devil in re-defining marriage and sadly, it has become the law of the land in godless America. Genesis 1:26,27; 2:18-23 teaches us that in the Garden of Eden, God made Adam and Eve, not Madamm and Eve, or Adam and Steve. No matter how happy or successful such unions may appear to be, they are abomination in the eyes of God, and woe to them who participate in or support them!
