Grandma is awesome “no I ain’t cleaning that shit out of there” 😂🤣🍻🤙🏻
😂😂😂 Yes grandma is cool especially if you meet her in person.
That wasn't a pack rat nest, that was a beaver dam.
She even kicked the fender where Paul caught his pant leg. She is a gem.
It's so good to see how you treat your boys with respect, thanking them for helping you instead of demanding it.
Agreed ... The best way to raise an adult is to treat them as an adult.
He's way less bitchy towards them than he used to be.
“My real dad”. Lol. Glad to meet him officially. Love grandma Lolly. She was so nice and welcoming when I stopped by.
Counts your blessings Paul. Life isn't meant to be rainbows and pots of gold. It's a life long character building process. Keep smiling and count the blessings you have. Bless you all
Man ain’t that the truth😂
I gotta say what ever you do, Don't change the way you film recoveries. I loved every minute of it, cause I got to see the beautiful Utah mountains. Reminds me of Matts earlier recovery videos. Sadly that's a no longer shown to us
Yeah I really like their format too but I think both of them need to hire some more mechanics though. They have way more projects than hands to do them.
l hate the break down, but it was beautiful
Thats what makes Rorys video so good
If you can't build a big block a LS won't fix the issue
Hunter soundes like my wife for a sec. Can't film and drive ,replace that with Can't talk and drive. LOl
Grandma is amazing! Such a hoot!
Is Grandma Molly single I'm a widow and I might like to take her out for a meal and get to no her okay
She is the star of the show- she needs to follow the boys around more often!!
Amen! She knows her place and she takes it!😅
I laughed till I had tears in my eyes after she kicked the car. She is a hoot.
That hurt my boy!! Kick take that scum bag car. lol
Never have I related to a video more in my life. From hitting your head on the Packard to the tow truck deciding to just poop its pants, been there and I feel ya. I too have reached the point in life where I just have to laugh it off and keep swinging. Great boys you have there too.
Gotta love Grandma, she made my day with that custom panel job... lol
Very lucky Paul that the wrecker got you back to the road, that would have been a long walk back in deep snow. That would have made for some language that couldn't have been included on the video. Great to see the old Packard start up.
Ya gotta love Moms….. she don’t care about your chrome strip she cares about her baby boy 😊
Enjoy those awesome moments with Grandma Lolly
Love the videos!!!
Those big blocks just can’t handle all the PPM’s ( Pauls per minute) LS time 😎🇺🇸
Merca !
That moment of pessimism from Paul when the rig started tapping was a real surprise. It's either really rare, or carefully edited out of most of the videos. Hang in there Paul. Easy to forget the blessing when the details get messy.
I swear, if I was younger I would adopt Lolly. She's feisty! Fit right in with my own sassy daughters.
I just love that young lady with spice & attitude to go with it & great humor . Well I know what she's had to deal with y'all .

This is a great channel for audiences of all ages. Good clean content 👊🏼
"There is always parts, it's just how much you want to pay" . Is the truest statement ever spoken on RUclips.
The motor going down maybe bad luck, but you made it out without walking. I would count that a win. Beautiful country in your videos. Love it.
The chrome on that Packard is amazing. Still shining as the day it was new.
Chrome stays minty out in the dry West.
Now we get a lil glimps of what Hunter looks like when he's older by seeing his "real" dad! lol
Sorry you guys had a rough day with the truck. Hang in there like fuzz on a sucker!
Wow. One engine runs and the other is not happy. You guys are friggin amazing. “ Oh yeah. Watch for fire !!!!!” 🔥. Keep it up you guys
Woo-hoo upgrade on the tow-truck 😂 I know the feeling, just beyond being disappointed to the point of being ridiculous 😞
I know that, just every time I buy a car, it breaks. Tried super trustworthy stuff, a new one, old shitbox just doesn't matter something always breaks, so I've given up on it and just go with the flow
.... did Grandma Loly say, " I'm not cleaning that _____ out of there?!" ? too real/funny- the best
I love the response of "not sure what it is, let's open up the throttle" So perfect, so true @19:00
I really enjoy the family aspect of your operation.
You don't need a resistor to the ignition coil on cold start . You look at starting circuits on the old stuff , they bypass the resistor circuit on start up . Thevresistor is there to prevent coil saturation that happens while running long periods at idle loads . That is when you would fry the primaary coil . Picture a crowded room where more and more people coming in and no way to exit . They tear the walls out and then go over to Hunters' house . So you didn't need that resistor for what you were trying to do .
I was also of the opinion that his resistor was possibly grounding out against the head.
That's a lovely way to put it, I dig it.
You helped me to understand something that never made much sense to me. Thank you!
To the same end, a test light won't show you a voltage drop without a load.
@@lucionsrandom5195 true, but there is no voltage drop without a load.
Kinda chicken and egg!
Cheers!
Shame to see you’re having so much trouble with that big block in grandpa sherm. I’ve abused many of 396, 402 and 454 in my days and never once had any issues granted they were all 300-450 hp mild street engines. Gonna be a shame to see a LS go in its place but I understand the need for unquestionable reliability in a recovery vehicle.
Yeah, there was something in that motor that wasn't built correctly.
Those big blocks were made for severe service applications and could be built to over 1,000 hp back in the day so its odd to see this one failing repeatedly but then again Paul also seems to have fails with some of the LS builds too. Be interesting to see if and what aftermarket component was responsible for this failure and if its also common to the LS fails he's had.
I know some might not like this but I've had better success with 383 and 440 builds in the Old Power Wagons.
Best!
Go back to the dyno session from the wrecker games. Paul had HP but Rory had torque. Who is more successful are having safe completed recoveries? Build for the job, not the dyno.
@@carlholm2765 Cousin Merlin is up there among the most successful by the looks of it all. Torque Monster Cummin's Diesels more consistently win the pulling competitions.
Best!
I would never change from a BB Chevy to an LS in a non-drag racing application… 🤷♂️
"I'm not cleaning that s#!t!" Lol, Grandma Lolly is my idol, they don't make em like Grandma anymore!
It's always good to have backup. Even better when you have it and DON'T need it.
I'm beginning to think that if one finds a discarded Packard, there's a pretty good chance it wasn't parked because of engine troubles. From what I've seen on Vice Grip, Cold War Motors and Fab Rats, those are really great motors.
I would like to thank General Motors for all content between the 3 major Utah recovery youtube channels. We get to watch them build rigs and constantly fix them as they swear by GM and bash other brands. 😂😂😂
Imagine how much more fixing if they used anything other then GM. LOL
The Tacoma only Needed liquid head gasket. now she's mint. @@bradywilliams2666
It’s so cool to see packards on the channel I love 25 minutes away from the packard proving grounds and 40 minutes away from the packard plant in Detroit
I see where you get it Paul. If Grandma Laulie just had a big green SnapOn in her right hand .... 😇
Great to see it all. Ups and downs and Murphy law. Persevere and push on. Always learning something. 👍
I learned to drive on a 52 Packard like that one. It was solid black. I remember the Crome emblems on the rear fenders. It had a straight 8 cylinder engine.
You're very fortunate. I learned on a '55 Plymouth, three on the tree and six cylinder. Great car.
Love the old step side square body, but wish it had matching paint. Time to put an 8.1 in the tow truck
That sucks my brother. Nothing like a big block letting you down. LS is king 👑
I agree with everyone else. Keep doing what you do. The scenery is beautiful on the recovery trips and the family content is super. Keep rocking.
Dang that motor Paul!! Glad you made it back to the flatbed tho. I know you will have her up and LS Power running in no time. Great recovery and awesome part car for the Packard. Thank you for sharing and have a great weekend
My husband says, he’s gonna put an LS in it… a minute later Paul says, we’re gonna out an LS in it! Lmao! And you did get a Christmas Miracle getting that thing ALL THE WAY BACK to the flatbed! Thank God!! 🙏👌
5:01 "Probably won't be needing that. " 😂🤣😂 Love your sense of humor, Paul!
Paul you're just a magician when it comes to cars
Should have taken the Packard for the snow recovery since it runs better. 😂
😂. that was low lol
😂😂
God bless Grandma Lolly. "I aint cleaning that S***" absolutely love it. She is my Spirit animal for sure
I love the way you get those old motors running. Paul you are a master mechanic
Jase's face when ya'll got back in the rig at 20:03 was priceless.
Glad the editors left it in. I'd feel that way too wondering what else was going to knock 🙂
I know how you feel. I rebuild my transfer case and took it for a drive and my rear diff left the chat. One thing after another lol but look how much you save by doing it yourself. Best of luck and merry Christmas 🎅 now build it better 💪
Regardless of when “it happens”, we still feel the love.
That Packard is sweet, 70 years old, and the engine still runs.
Pretty cool parts Packard. Bummer that the tow truck engine has decided it wants no more. I love big blocks but for some reason that truck eats that one. If you going to L.S swap it at least go with a 6.0 or 6.2. Or a an aftermarket 7.0(427) for some power/torque to move that heavy truck. Rory makes his big blocks live! Ask him how he does it!
Rory uses stock engines, because he's not chasing power for sand climbs.
Worried about a chrome strip on a beater? Be thankful you've got Grandma Lollie taking care of you and worrying about you too LOL! Sometimes things just don't go right at first but the recovery worked out great!
Sometimes things need kicked into submissions! People included.. Lol
That popping could be a flat exhaust cam, no place for the compression to go but back up the intake.
My 10 year old kid walks in the room... Paul " normally I'd be pissed off right now" we both started laughing 😂😂 one of my favorite channels these days🏁🇺🇲👀
Paul don't worry about that chrome strip, that's back when they made real chrome.
The side “chrome” on the cars was not chrome plated, it was stainless steel.
Packhard was a great car.... the under carriage is incredible.... The old straigt 8 engines they built were honestly one of the worlds best built engines.... even back then the cams were rollerized... I have many stories of Packhards.... My friends dad had (2) of them..... one was a Packhard Clipper.... I don't know if this year had a frame or if it was a unibody...
Packard never made a unibody. And no US cars were unibody until ChryCo. in 1960.
I read a book on the Packard manufacturing process and it was impressive. Like seven dips total for the paint. Yes, they dipped the cars in tanks of primer and paint instead of spraying like now.
@@georgevindo Interesting. They probably didn't dip their cars until around '55-ish. Or maybe even in the Studebakers years, but I doubt that. Just my guess.
@@UberLummox1934 Chrysler Airflow, 1936 Lincoln Zephyr and 1948 up Hudson were all unibody cars.
@@gregdelagrange8573 Oh yeah, forgot about the Airflow. But never knew that about the other two. Thanks!
That bad luck is what makes us tough and makes us prepared for the worst. Also makes us up our game 🇺🇸💪👍
Thumbs up to all of you guys! Keep up the good work. Hunter, you ok? Seemed a little down...
Love the scenery shots. That's one beautiful area you live in.
I have picked up on something with him a time or two, but then when he interacts with others he’s just fine. Editing? Or maybe we are just seeing things?😉 Hunters awesome.
So sorry about the big block motor breaking on you. :( Hopefully the LS motor will do a lot better for you.
Glad you guys made it back to the truck, that is some bad luck! New motor time?
Great video sorry about the big block. Really happy to see you and your sons interact. Its really nice to see how good a job you are doing with them. You and Michelle are great parents. And are providing a wonderful example to your sons and daughters.
Man that stuck valve was making a killer beat! Someone needs to make a song with that NOW!!!!!
Sorry about the motor, if possable i woeld love to see a tear down of it to see what went wrong.
Anyone can be a father and some are great. But it takes a real man to be a dad. Paul you are definitely a dad to all the kids.
Thanks for rolling the camera as you go to and from recoveries. Adds a nice touch to the videos. Casey and Rory do that and the scenery is always great and we know what they're working in. You and big blocks just don't get along. We've run them in just about every type of vehicle and they've been very good to us. Hopefully you have better luck with an LS in that truck. Time will tell. Sounds like you are going to need a fleet mechanic with all the recent rigs added to the fleet. A happy Holiday Season to all.
The good thing is that you have rigs that can do it all. the scenery was awesome
Hung valve with cylinder compression popping back through the intake, was very unique. (Do not recall hearing at that sound level before). At least engine and truck did not leave you stranded in icy snow.
In my country the time is 14:45 so where am I. Good morning fooks.
Morning!
Good afternoon bud
Not far from me, a little bit further to the east I'd say... At least if the RUclips time stamp on your comment is right for once
Paul i give you credit had that been me on the trail when the truck started knocking, I would have been using every word under the sun and slamming stuff. good to see you guys staying positive!
It is a good thing you guys love chevys, endless content of fixing them!
🤣 Chevys and Harleys, work on 'em all week and drive 'em on Sundays! 🤣
Oh man... I feel for you brother. I could see the look of frustration and anger on you face. Time to make it reliable and be done with the big block.
I grew up on my dad’s chicken farm, my pop was a man like Poppa Sherm. He could fix anything but a broken heart, I learned a lot of ways to get back home on the skinny from him. When days like you guys get you have to keep digging and get the job done. It’s not personal my dad would always say, life sometimes sucks, hahaha. Peace Out!
The FJ rocks like 'The Clash' belting out "Should I Stay Or Should I Go"! It saved the day, in the snow, with a working heater for Paul and Jace. And the video was a good one, real life stuff as it happened, a Plan B workaround, a reason to upgrade Grandpa Sherm's old square-body to a newer engine that is as capable and reliable as the rest of the truck is built to be, and, we got to see some beautiful Utah outdoor scenery during a Fab Rats recovery video! It was still a win, lose, win day and video Paul...next! You wouldn't give up your day job now vs. the one you used to do running cable with a crew I'd bet. ;)
So, you broke a chevy going to get another broken chevy, think about that. Put that Packard engine in it, it'll run forever! Best running straight eight ever. 👍
Sorry about the stuck valve, Paul. Truth be told, I'm looking forward to seeing the new engine /build more than the rest. But again, sorry it happened to you.
Keep putting the Chevy motors in it makes great content because you have to work on them constantly.
Grandma is the best love that lady!!
“She Purrs” 😼 (Packard) Bravo Paul & Fab Rats family Team. Love your channel 💛✌️🫶🏻
💛many thanks 💛
This is when you have To think about all the good things you've done all the people that you've helped. All the people that you've made very happy with your work. Thank you for being on RUclips. You made me happy..
Murphey shows up during the worst time ------ every time ! Thanks for sharing !
Glad to see the boys doing some outings with you.
Gotta say Paul. I dig the way you handle all the luck. That big block sure has given you fits. Stoked to see an LS swapped into it.
Hunter when you asked your dad what he had going on for the day you need to plug his channel and then plug his challenger build tell people link down below and put the link! Come on! Spread the love!
Aaaah it will be fine. Hanta virus ! Got to love grandma!
Some days yer the windshield, some days the bug … today you were the bug , but tomorrow’s coming . And another great video of ya putting in a new LS.👍
I wonder how many times that car has been too the salt lake temple?and back?I love it,!turn up the hymns!!!!
i love grandma Lollie she's the best lmao!!!
It sucks to have engine problems in the wrecker, but good for us for all the great content to look forward too. 👍👍🤟
I gotta tell ya... I felt it when you hit your head, Paul.. besides laughing, I was actually rubbing the scar on the back of my head.......keep the videos coming
You've raised some fine young men. Thanks, guys.
Grandma Lolly, kicking the shiz out of the chrome trim...🤣🤣🤣 she was'nt holding back.. priceless!
Brings back memories of a ‘57 Ford my sister had years ago. She was given the car and never changed the oil. When I changed the oil ir was tan and looked like it had sand in it. After the oil change it made a noise like that wrecker. A couple of days later it laid down. On inspection the cam was in three pieces. Several years later I was back in Jacksonville and the car was still behind the shop with weeds growing up through it.
Your Grandma reminds me of mine. I hope she’s looking down on me smiling
you have to love Grandma she is the best she was just looking after her baby boy
Bit of a rough day but thanks for the foreshadowing of the future LS swap! Really love how all of the Cox Boys work together!
Between you and Matt yall my favorite you tuber keep the videos coming God bless you and your family
Grandma is the best!
Gotta love Gramma Lolly and the no FILTERS!!!Lmao. You go Girl!!!
Love your attitude Grandma Lolli. They need you to do the intros.
Paul an easy way to check the points, condensor, ignition, hook up all your wires place the test light on the distributer side of the coil and crank the engine over. If everything is correct your test light should blink on and off each time the points open and close.
I caught that you picking up Derick’s language from Vice grip I must admit it’s a bit contagious 😂
Hi Paul, it is not just you that has odd things happen to him. Remember that T Bucket that I showed you a couple of years ago, well, I stopped at the bank to get some cash and it was a nice day, so I drove the T Bucket. After I came back out to go home, it would not start. My 396 has a HEI distributor. I thought that I would change out the coil before I drug out the trailer to come and get it. I walked 100 yards to Auto Zone and got a coil. I had a 6 in one screwdriver, so I changed out the coil, and it fired right up. I have replaced that coil one other time, so I bought a spare to keep in the T Bucket. There are places that I go that have no cell reception, and I am to old to walk for 30 miles.
That definitely sucks to have something bad happen to your rig that far out in the boondocks.
