As he said, he quickly realized he couldn’t outskill Hakeem, Robinson, Ewing, etc. (no criticism-they were truly elite) but he could overpower them - so he became so strong few could even give challenge.
I used to imagine if I were 6’10” how I would defend him. Wouldn’t back down, but would “let” him win post position & even score, just to mess up his timing & expectations-the way DL set up OL. No chance to overpower all game, but strategic pick spots.

But how many guys can destroy in the post? There's a few guys that can be effective go-to options, but just because someone is tall that doesn't mean they're gonna kill guys. Shaq expects all 7 footers to play like him but he was a unicorn. For guys that aren't gifted post threats, it's become more efficient for them to be floor spacers or rim runners. I love watching guys post up, but you really have to be great at it now for your team to go to you consistently.

Shout out to you Shaquille O'Neal oh, and my condolence to your little brother Kobe Bryant may he rest in peace😇🙏. Yes players today don't realize, how important and dominant, a center can be in the paint, obviously besides scoring, a guarantee such strategic way of getting your opponent in foul trouble. As a big man having the ability to shoot outside has its advantages, but to be a skilled inside player, as you stated, should be unstoppable, with the additional advantage of passing out to a open man. The mindset of the play it today in a sense is somewhat weak because they don't want to work hard and their positions. Big man want the opportunity to handle the ball and shoot outside there's a balance. Once again my condolence to Kobe Bryant may he rest in peace and blessings and prayers go out to the families🙏.

Shaq is right on point about analytics. Analytics help you win the most games in the long run, like in regular season. But if you really have to win this one game, for example game 3, or game 7 of the series, then no amount of analytics is going to save you.

The analytics looked down on that shot so much, no one knows how to guard it, so DeMar makes them pay.

4.) improvement of basketball backboards/hoops and broken glass cleaning equipment
    5.) new hairstyles for teamates
6.) brought element of fear and possible injury giving rise to what we now call “resting players”
7.) Made Reebok mostly for Big Men like him and Yao Ming
8.) Made Rest in Peace posters out of fully functioning nba defensive players
9.) Made his pre-retirement teams dream of the L.o.B 🏆
10.) NBA 2k games simulations 100% winnable when in the starting 5
    11.) made screens 100x effective
12.) made screens 100x defective when he opts to hold the ball longer
13.) Rules changed regarding referee attitude towards gambling (sorry Kings) by throwing down that Kobe Alleyhoop
14.) kept the Heat the only team to Win it all after his trade!!!!
15.) kept the Heat the only team to lose it all after he won!!!!
16.) the only player who ever played as a muggle Champion and kept the wizards/trolls/orcs/magical creatures and rappers happy by playing as a Genie
17.) made the game interesting by just being there on the Tv being magnificent
18.) paved the way for muscle healing research by continuously providing team medics with subjects/fresh specimens per game
19.) technological advancements in slow replays of the scientific shaqattack play
20.) 40% of the time he didnt change anything...60%+ most of time the NBA had to change for Him as he was flicking opponents like dominoes, no one could guard him trully awesome 😎

I met Shaq one night in Sudbury, MA when he was rehabbing his Achilles Tendon while he was with the Celtics. The man was clearly in-pain, and thinking he wasn't going to be able to help-out with the Celtics' coming playoff run (which he was hired to do in the first place). A big man inside was the key to the offensive strategy - Shaq was too battered to play anymore. Being "big" in a sport where you need to physically jump dozens of times a night destroys your legs, knees, ankles, tendons.....

He certainly is one of the more dominant offensive centers in the post Shaq era and had far more moves than Dwight Howard but the problem with Cousins was that he was a very poor defender. No matter how much he was scoring, he was giving up as much if not more on the other end.
It’s why he’s been a net negative for every team he played for. Not to mention that he often oversettles for jumpshots (which he’s not that good at) and turns the ball over at a ridiculous rate. He’s one of the most overrated players in the modern NBA and puts up the most empty volume stats out of all the stars that I’ve seen.
