I feel sorry for anyone that complains about their lifted truck.
lol
Agreed, he seems too bitter about the process of lifting a truck (any lifted truck has all these same issues). Cant have the best of both worlds.
He’s not bitter at all. He just tells it like it is👍
@@RobMotive What’s funny is that, that isn’t what it is. Lifted is *required* in some cases. Looks way better too.
@@RobMotive agree with you. Mostly the people do it for the looks, not out of necessity.
I feel sorry for the people that have lifted their truck twice because they didn’t do it right the first time.
I refuse your pity, sir! My lifted Tacoma is awesome!
Lol! You should play the lottery!😬
There are many great lifted tacos out there, sometimes people cut corners and get what they pay for. Love my lifted taco as well!
It’s so true what he saying. I had a Tacoma a couple years ago that I lifted a 6 inch fab tech and 33’s on it. My ride quality sucked and my turning radius sucked and the truck was only for looks.
I hear many similar stories😬
I love my lifted taco 🌮
If I wanted a smooth ride, I’d buy a luxury car. If people care about how high your truck is, don’t get in it. I’m also the 4% that goes off-roading.
I don't need to go off roading to have my truck lifted, lifting my truck is like a hobby and whatever else you're doing to your truck, and I'm that 4% lol
Amen👍
Lifting a truck should be openly recognized as a unnecessary act to achieve maximum testosterone levels. I think if more men came to terms with this there would be less external pressure to lift your truck. Sounds silly when you think about it. My stock Tacoma is plenty high enough coming from a carolla, the idea that it should be lifted beyond its 9.4 clearance is completely useless. If you wanted a higher stance on the road, buy a larger truck with that extra money.
I see it completely opposite. Why do you equate manhood with truck height? I lift mine because I like the look…without regard of what you or others think. Just that simple👍
@@robob221 Beta males are entitled to their opinions too I guess. I live in the Foothills in Colorado. I hit the trails which requires a lift in some cases. The Tacoma is midsize and maneuvers nicely compared to a full size truck .
He nailed it," 96% of 4x4 lifted trucks never go off road."
😭
Can’t argue the facts😬
I took my SR5 off road the second day I had it on the oem Firestone Destination LE2's aaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnddddddd I got stuck.
Welcome to the 4percenters club!!😁
Well, i live in baja, im 96% off road lol 🤣🤣

Rob you had me laughing out loud with this episode! Lifting your Tacoma is a certainly a gateway drug. For instance, I’m trying to explain to my wife right now why I might need OV Tune. Keep them coming, buddy!
Lol!!!! It is for sure Jim. Did you convince her?😬
I feel sorry for anyone who can’t afford a Tacoma.
How about used?
@@RobMotive I originally when looking for a used one, but I bought mine new because it was actually cheaper in the long run because of the 1.9 interest rate they had on new ones!
I got a 2009 DCLB Sport with all the options. Black.
I can't afford one 😪😪😪😪
I am trying to get me an old Toyota truck. 4x4 , manual. To tow my toys. I honestly like the older Toyotas than the new ones.
Honestly this goes for every truck that gets lifted not just Tacoma
Take a shot everytime he says "lifted tacoma"
Sound like a fun new game to me!!!🍺
I feel sorry for anyone that doesn't lift their Tacoma PROPERLY.
Amen 👍
Great honestly feedback Rob! You brought up the truth that most lifted Toyota owners don't want to admit to it lol
Just telling it like it is😬
People just get a base price lift. If you spend a lot it CAN be nice. But then again, lifts done the right way are expensive.
Kept my 2013 4x4 trd sport stock all these years. It hasn't give me any problems. Took it off road a few times only. Still runs great and it's 10 years old.
My 2014 TRD Sport came lifted when I got it. My wife and I love it.i always wondered what it would feel like before it was lifted.
Depends how n the lift type and whether on not you have more aggressive tires. Either way, stock would be smoother👍
It's got a 3 2 ready lift. With 17" tires.
I've got no side steps and noone wants to ride in my truck. 🤣🤣 I also had to pick up a drunk friend and he fell out of the truck trying to get out. Haven't heard from him since.
Lol! Now that's funny!
🤣🤣🤣 One way to not get woken up at 3:00 am to pick up drunk buddies maybe he will Uber/Lyft next time.
Well thats one friend who u dont have to deal with anymore.
And as for others, if noone wants to ride the truck, even better for you. U get all the pleasure on your own. Thats my opinion.
How tall are you?
@@mariselalopez55 5ft 7
And a half 🤣
@RobMotive question would it be better to level a 2017 Tacoma SR5 or lift it? I don't plan on doing any off roading but I want the truck to look more aggressive. Yes I plan on replacing the rims and tires with a negative offset rim and 275/65/17 tires but I don't want to sacrifice ride quality any advice?
Leveling and lifting are the same thing. What you’re asking is really the angle you’re achieving. That depends on the look you prefer. You will sacrifice some degree of ride quality. Whether or not it negatively affects you depends on how sensitive you are to it. More aggressive (harder tire material) tires will also worsen ride quality.
Good morning, so my 2017 Tacoma has a 2" front and 1.5" rear Toytec lift with one inch larger Yokohama Geolander AT GO15 tire 265/75/16 (No rubbing). The truck sits level with my 200-pound truck topper and stuff in the back. NOW, Rob is completely correct about a lift costing a lot more because it opens you up to a huge money pit in m modifications. BUT, when you installed or had installed a lift did they tell you about the infamous Needle Bearing issue. Yes, the low roaring noise you will hear when driving at 30-40mph in your Tacoma after a lift is installed. There is a fix for the needle bearing that is stressed at the lifted angle, but it cost another $75 plus labor to install. It just keeps adding up. LOL but I still do it.
Lol! It’s an addiction!!!!😬
Just curious...what is the $75 fix?
@@DP-np5mm it is a solid clam shell bushing that replaces the needle bearing. East Coast Gear Supply sells them. Unless you can do it yourself plan on $400 plus for labor.
I am glad I still have my stock 2002 Tacoma 4x4 DoubleCab. 😄
Great points, thank for dispensing information and not sugar costing it. I'm going with bilstien 5100s and an AAL (I tow on occasion) for about 1.5/1.5 of lift on my TRD Sport. Also going with 265/70/17 AT tires on TRD pro wheels. Do you think I'll have any issues?
As long as they aren’t much different than stock dimensions you should be 👍
I had the same setup you are describing on my Tacoma for 10 years. Additionally I had the differential drop as well. It was nice but I did notice sagging when loading up the bed or hooking up a small trailer. My CV axles and ball joints lasted 130k miles and due to needing to go in there and replace parts, I opted to upgrade to a trail pro lift from Wheelers Offroad and it was a dramatic increase and that really looks good and matched the newly added bumpers and winch.
Thank you so much for actually pointing out exactly where your lifted Tacoma was, at 0:35. I would have had no idea where to look.
Man, go ahead and lift your trucks kings. Don’t go to the grave with a regret. We only here one time.
Amen👍
Exactly!
I have 2017 taco with 6 inches lift & 35s. All you have said are 100% accurate. I love the looks of my taco so I'm going to live with it lol.
Yup!! There’s definitely a trade off!!😬
I've come to two of your videos ready to throw hands at you in the comments section and then start watching the videos only to understand what you really mean. You are the king of titles and I've come to REALLY enjoy your channel to the point where I've subscribed. Love it!
Lol! Things aren’t always as they seem!! Thanks for the sub Matt👍👍
Love my lifted Tacoma !!!
You forgot to mention regear
Ha not in my 4.0
Rob.
I have 2020 sport
Stock lift . Running 285/70/17 on 17x8 +5 offset . No spacers
Perfect set up no rubbing issues here !
Haven’t seen changes on driving quality or gas consumption
I find it the perfect set up
That's awesome. Sounds like you have a great setup👍
Andres, what brand tires and wheels? Any pics you could post? I’m on the fence about a lift for my 2020 Sport. Am now thinking of just going one size up in tire to 265/70/17 and not lifting.
Awesome! Thank you for talking me out of it! Worth it!
another point to consider. It is if you are going to sell it, the dealership will not pay you for that money invested, but when the dealership sells it, they will say that it has the suspension
True for sure. Mods are worth nothing at trade.
It’s funny how people do trade in in a dealership and get ripped off
So freaking true man. Been there done that
@@DB-qm4jx yeah bro
@@C.Lopez-SWFL-Off-Road-Trucks.
I live in near Dallas, and have a 2007 Tacoma Pre-runner ... had it for several years and love it! Where would you recommend that I go in Dallas or in the DFW area for a simple lift. Also, what size tire and style of wheel (I prefer black) similar to yours would you recommend? I do not (and probably won’t ever) do off road. I travel long distances in Texas and want to do it primarily for the looks.
I’m not from the Dallas area. Not sure what shops are up there🤔
The biggest issue I’ve noticed is the gas mileage. On my 2018 with stock wheels and tires I would get 20-21 MPG on the highway. I traded it in and got a 2021 with a lift and grapplers and now I get 15-16 MPG on the highway. With a full tank of gas I get 268 miles. On my 2018 I was getting well into the 300’s on a tank of gas.
Did you calculate that by hand? The trucks computer system will be off unless you had it recalibrated.
I am getting my truck lifted. For the look because I drive 8 miles to work. And hike on the weekends. I use to drive a Nissan Armada V8 for 15 years. Horrible gas mileage. So I hope this will help me since I don’t know any better 😂
Great commentary on lifting a Tacoma. I recently traded in my 2015 Lifted truck for a new 2020 TRD OffRoad and will be keeping it stock. Tacoma’s look great lifted, but a long with the expense of lifting, wheels tires and a rough ride also comes the low MPG costing you $$ and additional wear and tear on other components.
Absolutely! I love mine lifted, but there is a trade off for sure 😬
I recently bought a 2018 and I love it. I'm looking to get it lifted a few inches and some good tires for the logging roads up to the hotsprings in winter. So many trucks get stuck in the snow and I don't want to be one of them. Might get a winch as well. Thanks for the video. Cheers from BC Canada
Congrats!! With a good setup I’m sure you’ll be fine. A winch would definitely help 👍
Big snow tires with 4wd is key. V6 Tacomas are lighter than most tucks and pack a punch. Hope you love your setup!
Curious about your take. I plan to lift my 2021 Tacoma TRD Sport 2 inches in the front and whatever it takes to level out the rear. Presently I have 265 65 R17 Duratrac tires. I plan to upsize slightly to 265 70 R17 Duratracs and keeping the stock 17 inch rims. The lift will include Bilstein 5100s. In your experienced opinion would you say I am safe regarding any rubbing? I have seen charts showing the 265 70s being safe even with a stock height, but I figured I would check with you as well. The place I would have the work done is used by the Toyota dealer here to subcontract lifts for customers. Another point. The decrease in gas mileage with the larger tires and raised suspension can be offset to some extent with a tonneau cover, which I plan to purchase (Bakflip Mx4).
Have a look: ruclips.net/video/pbZnuhRPkEY/видео.html
I feel sorry for anyone who has 2 jeeps
In all honestly I like the stock Tacoma, but I have seen one with new wheels and being levelled, and I’ll probably go with that, though I’ll also change the spare tyre, I won’t go hard off-roading, maybe just some dirt trails, but definitely I want to look at it. I do already intend to put a deployable step to help them get into the truck
did you get the leveling kit? I am debating leveling the front tires
Currently at Stock height but was debating lifting soon but after watching this video I think I’m gonna stick with the stock TRD OF suspension and just slap bigger tires and black wheels until I need a suspension. That’ll give me time to save up in case the lift causes problems.
Not a bad idea. Good to be aware of the extra's that might be required once you're lifted.
2004 Tacoma with Rancho Leveling Shocks with 33 tires. Just enough to keep in the garage and the Handling has not suffered. The power is that main issue and its super noticeable when you are going uphill lol
It’s a truck; I didn’t buy my 2017 OR for the smooth ride, or gas mileage. I have a 3” lift, OV Tune, and re-geared to 4.88. It’s my daily driver, but I do take it off-road when I can. I love the truck.
Do what you want, you paid for it!
Amen!!👍
Regearing it's key, it feels like a different animal
How much to re-gear to 4:88?
@@shannondixon3767 I bought the 3rd members from ECGS and had a guy in Sugarland, TX do the install. It took one day. He had done several already and they’re still going strong. Total cost after returning the stock 3rd members was around $2800. Best money I spent on the truck. Just finished a 2k mile road trip to Tennessee and the truck ran great.
Can you post or give a link to a picture of your truck? I want to have my lifted but not quite sure what's good cuz I don't want to lift it too high either. Also can you give a feed back to why you re-geared 4:88 instead of 5:29 or something like, not quite sure or remember the exactly number. Thanks
True...I spent about $3K all together (wheels/tires/lift and labor), but well worth it.
Yup...the money comes after the lift itself!
What kind of lift you used?
This is mine: ruclips.net/video/7PGwhUEBLdE/видео.html
Can't wait to get my 2021 Nightshade! Love these super reliable styling bad ass trucks
What a great video. I was reading my owners manual on my Tacoma and it says to use the 4x4 at least 10 miles a month to keep everything lubricated I’m instantly like who the hell does that 🤣🤣
Lol!! Not many I bet😬
Lol my wife’s Tacoma aka asphalt princess is a 2012 with 54k miles on the clock. And I bet it hasn’t been in four wheel drive ten times in the last ten years. She lets me drive it if she rides with me.
I have a 02 Tacoma that I drive
lol! I bet that’s a common occurrence 😬
Very true!! But hell, I love the way my truck looks. Lol I’ve made my choice!
Yup,,,me too. I'm willing to sacrifice a little for what I want too👍
It’s a domino effect. One thing effects another. Like you said, when you lift it now you need bigger tires. Then depending on your lift you may need to re-gear or re-angle you driveshaft better and so on and so on. One can easily spend a lot of $$$$ to do everything right. Unless you can do it yourself and save some money.
Oh absolutely! Once you really get into the lifestyle it’s seemingly endless!! 💰
I want to lift my 2018 off road but I’m not sure exactly what I need. Want to do a 3/2 do I need new shocks? Will my crawl control and 4x4 still operate properly.
Here’s what I’m running: ruclips.net/video/7PGwhUEBLdE/видео.html
I got rid of my 2017 taco I regretted lifting it. Got a 2020 an I don’t know if a suspension lift would be better than a block lift?
Probably so with regard to ride comfort.
I personally have 2 3rd gen tacomas and the only thing I would recommend is getting some good tires, and armor, (sliders, skidplates, etc) and a rear steel bumper. Other then that it's probably better to just get jeep or a dedicated off road vehicle. The tacomas are extremely capable 4x4s with the exception of a bad departure angle (you will rip your rear bumper off) ask me how I know.
Obviously if you have the money and if you want to then do whatever you want. All I'm saying is that it's probably not necessary and a stock tacoma will do the job just fine.
Anyway this is only an opinion.
I agree, Good tires are the trick.
I agree. I want a lift on my trd DCLB. But what I have done for now is a more aggressive tire, I plus sized to 265/75r16 and then I put on a "cat shield" but the HD skid plate version. No bumpers yet. My thought is if I can get down some access paths gravel roads here in the PNW to my fishing locations and some really offgrade camping spots then I'm fine. I really like the stance of a lifted Tacoma but I actually also like that I'm averaging 20 mpg. I would lose that with 285s
The negatives go on with wear and tare on bushings, ball joints and drive train components. Your gas mileage goes down to the point where you might as well have bought a full size truck. Going with a full set of bilstien 5100 shocks , going 2 inches max with stock springs and a 1 inch spacer in the back is perfect. Spacer pucks on the front differential and carrier spacers to mitigate vibration help . Tires should be kept narrow and tall like a 235 75 or 245 85 depending if you keep the stock 7.5 x17 rim . This keeps your speedometer from going nuts and maintains your tire pressure sensors.
hey Rob what kind of lift kit you got in your truck? I want to use the same setup you got on your Tacoma. Thx.
Here ya go: ruclips.net/video/7PGwhUEBLdE/видео.html
quick question, so i understand buying rims is pretty much a personal preference thing, but my question is getting a rim with the beads around it, i was looking at methods, have a white truck, not sure if i should go all black or go with the beads around the rims? I like the Stealth rims, but they are independent and no telling when they will have some more . i am bummed
I’d go all black👍
I want to lift my 19 taco a couple inches. Stock wheels. I actually do go off-road and want better ground clearance. But in all bout practical. I don’t want my wheels sticking out 6” on both sides with 20” wheels and mud tires. I want my truck to be a little more useful.
Sounds good to me 👍
I like this guy. He tells the truth and he’s straight up.
Thanks! I try👍
Will a spacer leveling kit affect the ride since my Fox suspension is tuned for factory stock height?
I’d think it would be somewhat firmer🤔

You just explained lifting any truck not just the Toyota Tacoma. You’re gunna run into those problems no matter what truck you have
I respectfully disagree. It depends on the complete setup you use. I have a complete OME kit with 285/70R17 in a load range C and AT tread and my ride is 100% better then the stock TRD Off road setup. BTW it’s a 2020 model year
Sounds like you have a good setup👍
Same setup. Incredible results
OME= Old Man Emu?
@@teamcrooks6913 Yes Sir. I would highly recommend the BP51 kit to anyone. I love the ride. My friend has the standard system, which rides great too. But the adjustability of the BP51 takes the ride quality up that extra couple notches, and worth the extra coin IMO
I feel sorry for ppl that buy a TRD PRO, and still upgrade the suspension!
That’s why I keep my pro stock
Dang but it looks so good with aftermarket weels
My friend would u chose stock diesel gladiator over trd pro Tacoma? 3rd month can’t make a decision for which would work best to drive to work and have fun and keep for around 7-10 years.
I wouldn’t chose diesel over anything. Just not my thing. 👍
@@RobMotive I see u have few gladiators in the back. Would u still go with Toyota sir? I don’t care for resale value looking for reliability and endurance… both great just which one better? When I was in Hawaii that was number one vehicle there, didn’t see f250 at all😝. I guess too big for the island
The Tacoma is number 1 there. Best state for the Tacoma (sales wise).
Solid video, some considerations I will use before I decide whether to lift my Tacoma!
Thanks for watching 👍
I add two more items: poorer gas mileage with lift & larger tires; and a possible voided warranty if you have an issue remotely associated with a lift & larger tires.
Yup...good points👍
Gas mileage is worse for sure. I had OVTUNE installed and the mileage and performance went up significantly.
I had my local dealer install everything. The have a whole after market side tho. At any rate, everything is covered under my factory warranty.
That’s great peace of mind👍
Yes but all these points literally apply to any lifted truck...
Of course👍

Lift kit leads to new rims and bigger tires. That leads to poor performance and gas mileage. That leads to more expense with gear change in both differentials and eventually everything leads to broken parts. Ive been there and done that.
Your titles always are making me click them🤣 fear!
Lol! Thanks!! That’s my intent😬
If you lift it with a good brand, I find the ride smoother and better than stock and that's even with bigger tires. I've had cheap to expensive suspension lifts and there's definitely a difference.
Buying a new tacoma 2022 trd sport premium looking to add the factory lift 2 inch in the front 1 inch in the rear should I keep factory 17s but go with a wrangler tires
Huh?
I am buying a new Tacoma 2022 TRD sport premium and Meaning I wonder if it would look bad if I use the Toyota factory lift kit and keep the same size tires on 265/65r17. But maybe change out the stock tires to a more aggressive tire.
I think that would look fine👍
Appreciate your honesty!
Thanks Santiago. Thanks for watching 👍
1600 bucks I can do it cheaper
You do have a point in a lot of things you did mention 👍🏼😱😂
What is your wheel & tire set up on your Voodo blue taco ?

How many inches is the lift you have on the Tacoma and tires size ?
Just search Robmotive lift and Robmotive tires on the channel. All the info is there👍
3k total ...Tires , wheels ...Ready Lift 2 in front Level kit ... 2in rear Block and U bolt . 2022 Tacoma. Perfect! Love it!
Have you posted a link to the lift kit u used?
Rob your killing me with your honesty. This week I’m going to install 5100 all around with a 1 inch block in the back. My Taco SR5 v6 4x4 with 4K miles been watching all these YT videos guys are talking about needle bearings another headache that I don’t know if I should do at the same time. 😢😢the tires I’m looking to get are 265/75R/16 instead of the 245/75R/16 that are on now.
Thank you for all the info.
What size and brand tires and rims do you have on your tacoma? Looks great!

i got a 4 lift whit zone and 3 inch fox in the back 285/55/20 tires and wheel, drives really bad on highways felt every bump in my steering wheel. Im thinking in undo it
Been there! What I have now is sooooo much better👍
I take the truck 2 times already to shop, balancing, rotating tires ,alignment, still shaking the steering wheel whit every bump. 😔 thanks for answering Mary Christmas
Bigger tires, also put a strain on the drivetrain and transmission not to mention, it robs you of gas mileage and power!
I do plan on a new set of wheels and tires on my trd pro.17x8.5 w/0 offset/4.75 back spacing. 285/70/R17. Cant wait
What kind of tires are on here and size?
Have a look: ruclips.net/video/KFoMehNQ28k/видео.html
2009 2x4 6-4 lift drive shaft problem shutters at take off yes I know old man emu spacers helped a little bit but still not right and because it's not a 4x4 drive shaft one piece no one makes. Help
That’s a drag😬
My kids’ don’t need college funding. It’s all going to my soon to be lifted Taco cuz when the wife finds out there ain’t no college money, she’ll kick me out of the house to dwell in the Taco. 😂
Lol! Sounds like a good time for a roof top tent too😬
What really lifts a truck is big tires . You can lift it all you want but the axle is still the same height from the floor.
Im getting 33’s in the future with that cab mount relocate.
Cheaper n still lifts the truck a bit.
True. I prefer both myself👍
Rob why dont you share the link where you get your lift kits 3 , 2 go lift thanks.
No links. Bought they the shops that installed them👍
My 2023 trd pro already came factory lifted. No plans to do it
I see your point but you also forgot to mention a few other things besides doing a body chop mount/Pinch weld mod,You also have to regear the transmission,And obtain a new driveshaft as well because it will only be a small matter of time before your trans & driveshaft will be in serious need of repair.
Depends on what lift you install. I haven't experienced these problems👍
You re gear the rear diff, not the tranny lol , I’ve had 33”s and 3” suspension lift for 80k miles now and drive my taco like I drive my razor, zero issues
I love my Toyota Tacoma I have a 1999 that I did a LS2 swap & converted into a prerunner with long travel suspension and long trailing arms it's my hooning machine
Sweet !
What kind of lift do you recommend getting?
