    • @Swarthy.
      @Swarthy. Месяц назад +11

      Personally, I always hate the community. The biggest problem is that elden ring blew up and countless people started playing souls-like for the first time because of it, so anything that doesn't suit their masochistic ideals is "bad", and people who have been playing souls for a long time just tip their hat, avoid eye contact, and walk faster.
      Not like I'm some kind of veteran either, but I've half a brain at least so I can proudly say I'm not as stupid as those people are.
      They probably heard of souls-like 5 years ago and thought "ppffft, a game completely reliant on skill? I'd never play that" and then they play it, and fall in love with it, but their brain didn't develop enough to understand that "hey, maybe skill isn't the only thing required to play this game"
      Which leads us here, and every weapon that's remotely good gets nerfed because of them
      Sure, some nerfs are reasonable, but I would argue that most these nerfs are not.
      A weapon going from "DAMN THIS IS INSANE" to "wow this sucks" is just ridiculous.

      @@Swarthy. if game mechanics exist, they are probably there to be used by the player ... If you want to challenge yourself and do a naked, bare fist, no runes run, that is perfectly fine, just don't be obnoxious and tell everyone that this is the RIGHT way to play. Some people just want to play the damn game and play with all that it offers, experience all the stuff that devs actually worked hard on ffs.
      It's also ironic, how much they boast how the game is about skill, but then start crying how moonveil is OP, because they can't handle a noob with Moonveil lmao. Just get good, mate, what seems to be the problem? :)

      I mean... It's kinda average now.. If there is a mod for Moonveil, it would be a lot better like 5 times better. My kind specifications for a modded Moonveil is that you can buff the weapon, similar to the dark moon Greatsword and the heavy r2s must be similar to the serpentbone blade and has transient moonlight but the light r1 has three slashes which all counted as hits and the r2 is is a horizontal and vertical slash. That's my specifications and opinion

  • @mr.mcflurryco.1034
    @mr.mcflurryco.1034 Год назад +433

    Honestly, the weapon is really fun to use if you're not constantly spamming Transient Moonlight. Using it sparingly and punishing either long wind ups or recovery animations while getting quick hits with the main attack leads to a pretty fun dynamic. I don't use it anymore (because the Dark Moon Greatsword exists) but it was fun while it lasted. Test it out of you want, don't let anyone make you feel bad about it.

Peeve Peeverson, an invader and streamer, might be the "Patient 0" of moonveil users, man had an early review copy of the game and found the weapon on his first playthrough then proceeded to make a guide to obtaining it on his Twitter, several weeks pass, then he makes the Veilkeepers to atone for his sins of possibly popularizing the weapon. @FauxFoxPaw Oh, right. Pardon my confusion. Player covenants aren't that whack tbh, it's all in good fun, and that's just what I called it at the time, LOL. Warning: wall of trivia text.
      He made another in Elden Ring purely for pvp that's like his 2.0 of the Bloodshades that he made back in 2016 for Dark Souls 3 that tried to deal with the gank squad problem at the post Pontiff Sulyvahn area (and then his friend Oroboro came in with his own player covenant that were the polar opposite of Peeve's called the Crusaders LMFAO).
      IIRC saintriot and some other creators in the community hosted this event for charity where everyone made their own player covenants in Elden Ring too. It was really fun.
      All I'm saying is player covenants are just there in the community to make up for the lack thereof in Elden Ring or for an added level of fun you wouldn't normally find in one that does have covenants such as in DaS3 with Mound Makers, the Farron Watchers and the Aldrich Faithful co-invaders that would rather attack you than the host, just like now in Elden Ring with honor reds, or the confused ones that don't know how the Untrue Dark Ring and Furled Finger's Trick Mirror function even if you unequip them to show you're also a red and they keep hitting you like they're a bull.

      I'm in complete agreement. I despise Moonveil, but not for any of the reasons listed in this video to my knowledge. I don't dislike it for the spam, I don't dislike it for making PVE easier for a new crowd of soulsborne players. I think a strong weapon is great in PVE, and more power to them. My main issue with Moonveil is fighting someone who knows what they are doing. Moonveil can and will be a crushingly punishing weapon in PVP in the hands of an expert simply because the animation is fast enough to punish virtually anything I do with no chance of dodging, and with the right setup can melt me at 60 Vigor in 1 or 2 hits. To make matters worse, I've had matches where latency was high enough that Moonveil was instant. No animation, nothing. Just pure damage. I've even had a match so bad that the arc from the blade came from behind me while my opponent was in front of me. The speed is crazy. While the hit *can* be parried, in poor latency matches good luck parrying something that quick without the prediction skills of a god. The only saving grace is that most Moonveil builds have little to no health, so if they don't one shot you, you can probably close the distance and end them first. On good latency, against someone who isn't an expert with Moonveil, this weapon is alright. It doesn't need a nerf, but that doesn't make it any less frustrating. I think that in terms of pure raw damage, this weapon is incredibly strong. However, there are far more builds that need a tune-down, and Moonveil isn't one of them.

  • @jonathonmiller2662
    @jonathonmiller2662 Год назад +19

    In my experience the best way to deal with a singular moonveil spammer is done in three steps. Step 1: aggression. Moonveil spammers are used to people reacting to the sheathe animation by backing off and getting mulched when trying to determine which slash is coming. If you instead react by going apeshit and continuing to come at them then 9/10 they’ll panic and roll away, especially if you understand step 2 well enough. Step 2 learn to roll. Roll timing is the enemy of transient moonlight and one you have it down it doesn’t matter which slash they choose since you’ll radical Larry right through it and sock them in the mouth. Step 3: meme on them. Moonveil spammesr utterly despise it when their supposedly OP weapon gets beaten by you just using something goofy to take them out. Now you may think the obvious answer to goofy is the ringed finger but no. You want them to think you’re serious at first until you reveal the grand gaff. To that end I posit to you this: the humble dismounter or zweihander/gugs with the ash of war “lightning ram”. Since 1.10 the move is a genuine blender rather than the one off goofy but surprisingly dangerous ash it once was. Since the game also treats light attacks out of it as a standard rolling r1 it’s incredibly easy to tumble into someone and follow it up with a proper attack when they attempt to flee from the living Tesla coil smacking them in the knees. Through the dismounter you get a very quick attack with the reach of the second longest curved greatsword in the game and through the two ultra greatswords you get the ever so popular crouch poke to shank them in the spine. It may take some setup to get to work but the resulting victory and humiliation of your enemy makes it very worth it. As of a few invasions ago I can confirm it also works against hand of Malenia goons if you wait until the first flurry’s end.

      To be fair:
      Being extremely aggressive in all PvP will win you more often than not. Anytime you go on the defensive, you are giving the enemy an opening and you are allowing them to do things like heal and attack you. If you watch PvP videos on RUclips, that's most of the mistakes made. People not pressing their advantages. They eat a hit, so they slide into defensive mode, which allows everyone to heal up and reset. Battles are often lost by players who back the heck off and try to heal up. You keep on the attack. You keep pressing. If you keep the stress up, then your enemy will make mistakes.
      Why would they make mistakes?
      Because most players in Souls games PANIC at aggression. For good reason. The game outright trains them to do this. Big combo coming? Try to parry, dodge, or block. Don't try to hit into it. Don't be aggressive through it. You eat a hit? Run away so you can chug your Potions. The game outright teaches players to essentially play cowardly, rather than aggressively. You will win most of your PvP by just being insanely aggressive. Keep the hits and swings coming. Keep invading the space of your enemy. Back off ONLY if you're being parried.
      If you give enemy players time to assess what you're doing, calm down, and reset, then they will best you. After all, you're letting them do what every boss in the game has let them do. Catch their breath. Assess the patterns. Plan an attack.
      Don't give opponents any space to do anything except react, and you win. Which is, hilariously enough... how most of those players think "X boss is hard!". Because they aren't given an opening to do anything except react, and it kills them. They rely on those openings.
      Be Malenia when you PvP. Don't be whatever the heck the name of that first boss in the Tutorial Cave is.

      @@XxTaiMTxX Ironically some of the ER bosses actively punish trying to be reactionary and defensive. You mentioned being Malenia in pvp and yeah she's a good example, another one is Hoarah Loux who generally doesn't stop coming at you and will chokeslam you straight into the gulag if you try to break off. Generally that's how I prefer to go at pvp if I can help it. As long as I have the stamina and health to do so i'm coming at whoever I fight the entire time unless I know what they're using has priority or will lead to a death inducing trade for me. Aggression with the right gear basically nosells any build or tactic as long as you still rmemeber to play smart.

    I think moonveil is broken now not because of the aow, but because of powerstance katana jumping and crouching attacks. It rivals damage that of powerstance great spears back in previous patches and is so incredibly fast.

    I feel like this weapon wouldn't be nearly as toxic as it was if they simply reused the weapon art for the Frayed Blade from ds3. Not only because I feel it adds variety and not just doing the same 2 similar slashes, but I feel that the speed and range of the frayed blade is more balanced than the quickdraw style of the moonveil.

    • @VulkanHunter
      @VulkanHunter Год назад +1

      I thought the same tbh, I think the reason people get irritated at it is that unsheath is already a really fast ash of war, and is spammable too.

    • @Nobody32990
      @Nobody32990 Год назад +2

      Frayed blade had near insta bleed proc on very fast l2r1 and much wider hit box of l2r2. Balanced.
      News flash, half things in ER was used on DS3 if you think about it, it's a really hollow argument.
      Mv is better evolution of that idea

    • @VulkanHunter
      @VulkanHunter Год назад +1

      @@Nobody32990 is it really though? I mean I get what you are saying but it still just has a simple ash of war with a beam. The legendary weapons in this game are a hit or miss when it comes to certain things. Though bleed was heavily nerfed at the start of DS3 so it isn't that much of a problem, and damage values are much different in this game than DS3.
      I don't think it's genuine to compare how mechanics work in ds3 to Elden Ring without taking into consideration the differences in numbers and percentages.
      Most weapons, most, in Elden ring on their own are not outrageously strong, it's the multiplicative buffs and stacking talismans that make things scale wonky because PVE has such a power creep compared to the older souls titles.
      Nothing wrong with having bigger numbers, bigger damage, or bigger health pools in pve, but its a byproduct of those things that make weapons and spells seem.. quite unbalanced even if by themselves they are not.
      Though a lot of these PvP issues would be solved with a better netcode really.

    I'll never understand the souls community...I understand pvp players hating on op weapons, BUT isn't the point of pve rpg play to grow your character as much as possible? Elden ring is my first and only fromsoft game, but I've played ALOT of rpgs over the years. I'm an rpg guy. And I've never seen another rpg community complain about finding powerful weapons before. It's generally not only accepted, but desired. The souls community is the only one I've ever seen that sees becoming powerful as a bad thing. Lol its like they think this is a first person shooter or something.

    I love the cheese in this game. Bloodborne was a more skillful game all around, and had better enemies for that type of skillful gameplay, focused on parrying and high-speed. Elden Ring enemies are spam machines and parrying doesn't make sense over half of the time; it's no surprise that people don't bother doing it.

    FromSoftware fans are so conditioned to their GotY developers going above and beyond to neglect the balance of their game, that a majority of players (that clock in past a single NG+ run) have convinced themselves that large scale peer pressuring and nonexistent balance politics are required to preserve enjoyment beyond the 13th consecutive one-shot invasion
    the other half are the holistically unhelpful "lol dont play it / just enjoy being 1 shot" crowd.
    a venn diagram representing these people and drool cup owners form a near perfect circle.

    In PvE, it shouldn't matter what you use nor should anyone care. It sucks that other weapons aren't as strong and enjoyable in PvE, but that is another conversation. PvP is another story. Now in 1v1's this weapon is somewhat frowned upon because using its AoW has very little cost and all of the benefits that a mage player would want in a PvP scenario which includes - extremely high burst damage, good projectile range, very quick startup and release of the attack, heavy stagger on the target when hit, very short and easily canceled animation lock, and all of it with a moderately low FP cost. All of this means that in the hands of a noob player, it makes going into melee very dangerous and difficult to punish because of how fast it is, and for an experienced player they can bait you into trading with an attack that, unless its a bullgoat user using a powerful Colossal weapon attack, you will always lose the trade by a good margin.
    I'm all for having powerful weapons in the game but I feel like there should always be upsides and downsides to every weapon. Right now there are hardly any downsides aside from having to be an int build to use it. If there were to be a nerf of any sort, I would simply increase the FP cost or slightly lower the damage of the beam itself so its effectiveness is more in line with other spells of similar strength.

    I am more of a Dragon's Dogma player, however I eventually want to get into the souls/born/ring games. And I find it ridiculous that people are still complaining over a video game over what weapons that there are and what type of builds people like to enjoy. And I'm just going to say it, if you can't beat the opposing player, don't whine about their build or what weapon they are carrying, just do what you would do any other given time you would fall to an enemy's attack, get back up and get better. Because at the end of the day it is a video game that someone out there in this ever-expanding world that people like to play. And that is all I have to say about that.
