      its not the counting, its keeping your yarn tension even so it all works as it should. Counting I can do, I'm used to keeping track of numbers of cattle in a herd, or strides between jumps(and which order the jumps go in) with horses... some reason yard befuddles me.

      I'm thankful that I already knew before starting crochet that I'm TERRIBLE with numbers (hello dyscalculia) and one of the first things I bought was a very large stitch counter kit. I will routinely mark off stitches in groups of 10's so when I lose my count or confuse myself, it's easier to find my place. Any time a pattern is like "you will need 2 stitch markers" I'm grabbing a handful in different colors so I can color code if needed ^_^;;

    That ring is so smart I need one of those.
    Also, an easy way to keep track of the number of stitches is to use a safety pin to mark the first stitch of each round. I learned to crochet using Woobles and it comes with plastic safety pins and you would use that to mark the first stitch because I always lost count of how many stitches I made. It made it easy to count how many I already did by just counting back to the one with the safety pin

    • @EsiNotEssie
      @EsiNotEssie 5 месяцев назад +26

      Yep! I use stitch markers for rounds and complex projects. Also if I'm doing a long row that calls for, say, 150 stitches per row, I use stitch markers at intervals on the foundation row so I know about how many I've done

    Oh, honey! My grandmother crocheted, knitted, sewed, and quilted. She and my grandfather also ran a country store and gas station where they had a big ol’ pot belly stove in the back and the local men would come by to play dominoes while she and the local ladies would quilt. Then she’d typically gift each family member a new quilt at Christmas and sell the rest of those quilts for $75-$150. That was back in the 1970’s and they were incredibly intricate and beautiful quilts. I have no doubt they’d start at $1,500 now. Anyway, I digress! My point is, she had fabric, yarn, and thread in every nook and cranny of that old country house! I think my grandfather must have looked at it as long as she was happy, he was happy.

      it is because they had much more simple patterns then today's world. I found that out while watching a lot of Just Vintage Crochet here on RUclips. (channel) highly recommend anyone who reads this comment to check it out. Quilting is a simple thing that doesn't needs counting as much as crochet does. Doing quilts is kind of like doing a puzzle or something of that sort. picking out what colors to use, how to sew them and what fun designs you can come up with. definitely is something fun to do in general. ❤

      @ChrisTina-ln4yk 3 месяца назад +1

    • @ariadne0w1

      I knit and crochet, and because of the way I hold the needles/hook and tension the yarn with my right hand I have a callous on my right top middle finger knuckle. When I've been doing a lot or using rough yarn I end up either using a long leather thimble or padding the area with tissue and bandage tape. Ouch! (I also bought the rings but tbh they probably work better for people who haven't been doing it differently for 8 years already)
