    The fact that Omar was the last to walk off is kind of haunting considering he's the leader of the band, like he's saying "thanks, this was fun" one last time.... glad they're back.

    It’s official, gotta change the title of this video! The Mars Volta just played their first show in 10 years last night in Dallas,TX!
    P.S. It was amazing! They played about 6-9 songs from their first few albums!!! Never thought it would happen.
    They did an interview with TONS OF TEARS AND LAUGHTER for “Apple Music”. I highly recommend watching it. It brought me to tears when Cedric cried about why they got back together.

    Such complex material, performed live very well.
    That's a hard album to pull off live but they do it!

    Damn pretty much the whole setlist is Nocturniquet. Ending with Goliath is a banger. Cedric sounds ground and it's always cool to hear Omar back the vocals. Nice video!

    This is horrible compared to when I saw them in Santa Barbara in ‘05. They brought out frusciante for l’via, that show was on another level. Cedric’s best singing by far, and even had a flute solo. Fucking amazing

    Deantoni is a great drummer, but doesn’t fit the Volta. The interruption during the breakdowns in In Absentia really detract from the performance. There’s a time to showcase your talent, but this one felt poorly timed and detracted from the song overall. IMHO. I loved him with ORL. Context matters I guess

      i love deantoni in Noctorniquet and i like this performance of in absentia. i think you misinterpret that drum break as if he's showcasing his skill through a drum solo when really the way he played during that break was him filling up space and adding ambience uniquely going from loud to quiet. it wasn't braggadocios or anything. its interesting when drummers manage to make drums sound ambient rather than typically carying a beat

    Where was ikey?

    • @selahlee7248
      @selahlee7248 3 года назад +4

      according to the wikipedia for noctourniquet Ikey simply just wasn't asked to at all to be involved with the album. It's weird. I haven't looked further into it. But I thought there was more to it.

      At that point they scaled the band waay back, and since marcel is his brother and did some stuff for him on keys throughout the years it just “made sense” i don’t know what the vibe would have been with Ikey on this album. I know he’s versatile an all… maybe more of a Motown/ R&B vibe (thinking of the key sound/timbre)

    • @rocketoil
      @rocketoil 2 года назад +1

      Yeah Omar was trying to go back to a more striped down rock band sound, that's why Paul and ikey stopped touring
