Thank you for your video. I learnt from it, I have to say I think the easiest procedure for AVX and asi air plus has changed. This is what does the trick for me. You connect the handcontroller and the asi air with the cable, everything switched off. You power the mount, in the hc you confirm index, time and date. Right before alignment you stop. You turm on asi air, wait for the beep, go to your tablet/phone, make sure it is connected. You go to the app, open the mount page, turn the switch on. Now asi air will/might ask for confirmation that you have alligned the mount. You press ok. Then on your hc you do quick align, all set. This is actually very close to what asi air suggests you do in 'how to. Connect'. Just waiting to turn on asi air, till after the first steps with the hc, is what helped in my case. Unplugging all cables and then restarting everythinh in case something goes wrong, is really the best. Thanks again and good luck everyone!!
Thank you. Nearly 2 years ago, I was struggling to get my Celestron mount to cooperate with my ASIAIR. This video was the one saving grace that kept me from giving up all together. I searched for this video again today just to come back and thank you for proving a means for me to stick with it 2 years ago. I’ve had great success since and give you the credit. Cheers!
I have a 8” SCT with AVX mount and recently purchased an ASIAirPlus 256g. I used your tutorial to get started but I can’t get ASIAir to find selected objects reliably. I think the reason yours worked well is because you have an F 2.0 RASA with a short focal length. My 8” SCT has a 2032mm focal length. With a small sensor of an Astro camera it’s harder for the ASIAir to plate solve. I’ve used it three nights so far. ASIAir finds my first target, last night Dumbell Nebula, M27. But it couldn’t find the next three targets, M33 Triangulum Galaxy, M31 Andromeda, and Jupiter. I beginning to thing ASIAir is only suitable for short focal length < 1000mm telescopes.
Thank you so much! I have a Celestron CGX, just upgraded to the ASIAIR Plus, and used your process. I watched the video and transcribed it into a written check list. Tonight, tested it out inside, works like a champ. Can’t wait for the weather to clear so I can take the rig outside.
Robert Sutherland Here.....Cody..Thank you so very much...I did as you said and wrote down all the steps not only the first steps you stated were important but all the steps through to the end...I am new to astrophotography and I have the CGX2 and the ASI Air neither of which have been used yet because I wanted your instruction before doing so...WoW...I love your detail but my writing hand is not as Appreciative...Ha! Thanks again
I followed your process steps and ran into the known problem of the mount disconnecting. I resolved it by making sure that you use a separate power supply cord to the CGX so it is independent of the ASIAIR PLUS. Secondly it is important to boot up the ASIAIR and Mount then confirm you are connected to the ASIAIR wifi before starting the ASIAIR app on the tablet. These minor, but important steps resolved the random disconnect issue with the latest hand controller chipset.
Michael does your CGX have the Prolific chipset, I’m just trying to figure out if these procedures work with Celestron mounts since they changed to Prolific…thanks
@@swoyerrd Hi Robert. I just received my CGEM II and am having issues with the ASIAIR Pro communicating with the mount . What can you tell me about the prolific chipset? Is this something in the newer mounts perhaps making it incompatible with the ASIAIR? I have the hand controller with the USB mini B connector. I have tried both Serial and the Ethernet (TCP and UDP) options but get Ethernet error: "Connect Failed. The device on the USB serial port is not recognized, unable to connect" and Serial error: "Connect Failed. Please check the connection method , IP, port and protocol of your mount are correct"
@@swoyerrd Hi Robert. I was able to find a thread on the Cloudy Nights forum and get the updated OS. ASIAIR Pro now communicates and controls the CGEM II mount. Thanks.
Owning a cgx with prolific chipset and AAPro. Burned new OS, on a 64go card, provided by ZWO. (see support page). And it works. When starting the new burn for first time, the ap made an update to the latest version (1.9). Important to start AAP after Cgx is started has explained here. Thx for this tuto.
Nice useful video Cody. I took your advice on auto guiding settings in the ASI Air Pro from one of your previous videos and it works great. For some of your subscribers that don't use a Celestron mount, here is my experience with the ASI Air Pro and an Orion Atlas Pro. I use a USB cable from the mount to the ASI Air Pro. I rarely use the hand controller that came with the mount anymore. The ASI Air Pro will not connect to the mount, even when I try and change the Baud rate. The work around is to change the telescope/mount in the drop down menu to "EQMod". It auto connects every time and works (almost) flawlessly. On rare occasions the ASI Air Pro will slew the telescope to a target and indicate that it is centred. However, sometimes the target is off in the corner. The polar alignment is spot on though. No matter how many times I return the mount to Home position and then slew to the target, the same thing happens. The fix is easy - turn everything off (including my laptop) and reboot. No need to polar align again, as the mount has not moved. This seems to work. No rhyme or reason. Sometimes I feel that if I jumped up and down and tapped my hand on my head and rubbed my stomach at the same time, that would probably fix the problem as well. Yep, no rhyme or reason! Thanks again for your great videos!
Thank you so much for this! I've had an ASI Air for about 2.5 years and had given up on it being reliable to control my CGX-L. Testing it out tonight after watching your video, and it seems to be working correctly. I'd been searching the internet how to get this ASI Air working with CGX-L, and this is the first time I've actually gotten it running successfully.
I just received my ASIAIR Plus. Your video has been really helpful. I’m rewatching it over and over. Yes, I’m going to write this all down in a notebook. Thank you for your help.
Thank you! Just started using an old Celestron Advanced GT and was using both the ST-4 cable from the mount to the 120mm guide cam and the USB from the hand controller to the ASIR - tonight I'll skip the ST-4 cable. I'll also follow the startup procedure you shared, as that's not exactly how I did it last night. I have yet to be able to guide using the ZWO 30mm guide scope with the 120mm mini guide cam on the Celestron mount but FINALLY got guiding back working the first part of the night on my Sky-Watcher Star Adventurer mount.
Great video! Thanks for putting this together. I wasted night one playing with the air on my AVX before I watched your video. After I watched your video I was up and running quickly.
Great job and a clear explanation. I teach astrophotography and have several students who own the AVX. This was info was invaluable to me to give them the proper setup procedure. I greatly appreciate the information!
Great video. I have an old CGEM and the differences when connecting asiair is I turn on asiair pro first. I have it connected by ethernet to my slate because the wifi on asiair pro sucks. I select the slate wifi on my ipad that connects the asiair to my ipad. I then turn on asiair and check that I am connected to all the equipment (all cameras, EFW,and EAF) except the mount. I then turn on the mount which will prompt me on my cegm to make sure that the marks are aligned and cegm mount is aligned. I punched in time and date and select quick align on my mount hand controller. I don't bother of slewing to the star. I then click connect the mount. It is very important that you check the Latitude and Longitude on your telescope tab of asiair especially the longitude if you living in north america because the asiair software apparently does not like negative numbers so for west of Greenwich which is a negative number it will go all the way to the East and asiair automatically calculates and put the East number which is a positive number. Most of the softwares on internet will give you a negative number if you are living west of Greenwich. Just subtract that negative number from 360 (degrees which is for the entire earth) and it will give you the east positive number. For example, if your longitude is -120 North then it is 360-120=240 east in asiair. It may not match with your phone numbers because the phone numbers are latitude -120 north. It is important that asiair selects the right longitude and latitude otherwise when slewing the telescope might slew to different parts of the sky presuming that the longitude is +120. Hope it is clear. You can slew to any part of sky other than north pole and take a 30 secs photo and plat solve it and sync the mount so that asiair knows where the mount is. You can slew to the target. Rest of the things are the same as video.
Thanks for the video! I have learned that you actually dont even have to do any alignment from the hand controller. I just chose "quick align" and then move over to the AsiAir app and slew to a star and plate solve. I never have to go back to the hand controller. I am using a CGEM II
Great video. Thanks! I would never have learned how to use the ASIAir Plus with my AVX without it. After using the ASIAir polar alignment routine, the tracking was remarkably good. Even a 300-second unguided exposure with by Canon gave acceptable stars with a 200mm lens. The goto function is incredible with plate solving.
I have the same issue as @ovrcome.....it doesn't download the date and time and when I try to do polar alignment with the ASI AIR it fails. Both my ASI AIR plus and my AVX mount are brand new.
Cody, thank you taking the time to figure this out and then sharing it with the rest of us! When I followed your explanation exactly it worked great with my AVX.
Excellent video, I'm loving my avx mount for visual and I always do 2 star allaignment plus a minimum of 3 calibration star's wit 8mm eye piece. The last time out from 7:30 to 4am and it was still placing target's in the centre of the eye piece with the 8 inch edge. My asi air-pro will be in by November 5th and this video like all your other videos is fantastic knowledge to gain. Thank you so much sir.
Hi Cody, thanks so much for this. Finally I got the ASIAIR PRO to update my AVX with time & coordinates etc thanks to this video. I was so close to buying a Skysync GPS as I cant stand having to manually update my AVX every time I turn it on.
Thank you for this video! The ASAIR Pro has been packed up for now, went back the the computer. I have a 9.25 and could seldom get a good platesolve, I was about to chunk the hold setup. So, I tool off my ZWO EAF and ASAIR Pro for now to take a break from the frustration. I am planning on getting a Williams Z71 early next year and will use it for that system, with my 9.25 just gonna stick with starcap and the Celestron EAF. This video will be invaluable for my newer setup down the road. Again, thank you for the video, you are much appreciated!
This video gives me some hope that I won't have to bail on this hobby. I'm a newbie, just 2 weeks in with my first telescope; a new Celestron Advanced VX mount and C6" OTA. Quite a learning curve. Finally got my setup working but the smile soon leaves my face when I remove the USB cable from my laptop and access the mount using the Celestron WiFi dongle; all but the Camera can be accessed. I don't have the ASI Air Pro (yet). I've been using the Celestron CPWI software that is ASCOM compatible. Over the laptop USB to Hand Controller connection I launch CPWI to setup alignment and then open SharpCap. But when I remove the USB connection and use the Celestron WiFi dongle (in AP Mode) the ZWOASI662MC camera can't be seen. Of course it can't be seen since the AVX doesn't have a USB port for the camera. The guide port has a guide port on the mount to connect to but the mount doesn't have any USB port for the camera. So according to your video, if I change gears and move to the ASI Air Pro there might be a way to be cable free. Thanks for the tip.
Cody, Excellent instructional video. I've got a CGEM-DX that I just got and this should really help me. I'm sure I need to connect through the hand controller. I appreciate the great details and commentary. Great job..
I'm doing my first guiding session tonight with a Redcat51, asi 174mc, 120mm mini, asiair v1 and advanced gt mount, I m going to try your procedure, thanks.
Getting caught up on videos. Freaking awesome tutorial video! You make getting the ASI Air package very compelling…you sold me. Thanks again for another great video, clear skies amigo.
Damn it, RTFM 🤣 i just do always a minimun alignment with 2 stars... i just not read the AVX manual to go back to home for the ASI air. Thanks for your hint, so now i will do so! Good job!
Cody, thanks for the tutorial. New to the hobby and just got the AA+ a few weeks ago and have been struggling. I had a close start up to yours but still had difficulties. Working through this sequence and the mount does not appear to be syncing the correct time and date. Have you had this issue? CGX-L mount with AA+ 256 mb.
Lots of valuable timesaving tips and a clear process to use them. Your videos have helped pave the way to us completing our first rig. We have the zwo 533 on an original cgem. I hoping the zwo asiair works on it cause im sold😂 I bought an oag , hopefully that works for guiding the c11 with the .63 reducer. Thank for taking your time to help others❤
Posting my newbie mistakes here so that it can help others : (2600Mc Duo + C11 + CGXL + Asiair plus) works for me everytime : 1) turn on the mount, set switch, then turn off the mount 2) turn on the Asiair, wait for the "beep", connect to Asiair wifi with your phone 3) turn in the mount, set switch, quick align, wait for the mount to say it's ready 4) go to your Asiair interface, everything should be connected ! Issues I had : 1) My whole setup is connected to a lithium battery. When trying to power on the camera it didn't work. I had to go to the Asiair settings to enable power out to the camera port for it to turn on. 2) Scope out of focus. I removed the EAF then did the focus by hand first, until I saw something on the camera, then replugged it after to do the focus. Seems stupid but I was trying to find an image with the EAF and it took forever... 3) EAF screws not tightened enough : the focus plug didn't move at all because the small black screws were not tightened enough. I thought it was focusing, but it wasn't.
Great video Cody! I'm running CGX and GCX-L and noticed that the additional weight and scale of the CGX-L makes it a lot more stable and less susceptible to vibration etc. The only negative is the motors are a lot noisier compared to the CGX. (maybe that's just mine though).
Cody...another great video. I appreciate how you break down each step and explain the basics and needed steps to achieve success! I have a CGX-L in storage but have been reluctant to bring it out because of the communication problems while using the ASIAir Pro. I am going to bring it out and begin using it with my EdgeHD 11. Much needed for the extra weight of guide scope and image train. Thanks again. I hope you will be available for a Q & A when I begin with the CGX-L.
Thank you!! It works for me. I live in the San Francisco Bay area, and from May to November we have clear nites. I feel I need to go out each night and shoot something. 😂
Hi, Cody; this is a question I sw retalet to this video in a FB group: "There a mistake on the video in my opinion. When you start the tracking, like for any other mounts, you need to calibrate. And by calibrate, I mean a real one (not just with the refresh). I did not do it at first and I had a lot of problems with my guiding. Now that I do it, no more problems! To do it, you need to press the « i » on top and reset. Then, you use the refresh button and then the guide. The calibration will start. It normally takes me about 2 or 3 minutes to perform it, and thrust me it totally worth it".
Hey Cody, Just had the opportunity to view this video, after 10 months I will soon be getting my avx mount & edge 8” HD OTA. I had already purchased the asiAir plus months ago. So your video was extremely helpful. The AsiAir plus recently release a firmware update to include a feature call “All-sky polar alignment”. I know it is currently in beta release, the place I will be spending a lot time getting use to my setting up is my south facing balcony with my house blocking the view of Polaris. Please review the “All-sky polar alignment” feature on the ASIair plus for comments. Great thinks for all your videos--Tom
Hi Cody, thanks for another great tutorial,Happy Holidays. Does the button for the mount in the app need to be switched on before the handcontroller receives the coordinates and time update and does it know if your in dlst or not? Cheers
A really great presentation but completely over the head of beginners like me. This video is more for intermediate / advanced astronomers. Can anyone out there recommend a dummies / beginners guide to Asi Air, what it is, what it does, etc? Thanks
IMHO, if you're not entirely sure what it does, you might consider spending time doing it the old fashioned way first, or watching a product review video instead of a setup video. The ASIair is really just to help streamline imaging workflows -- It's essentially just a little remote computer, but you can do most of that from your laptop directly. Once you've learned the steps, and what a pain it is, you'll come to understand what the asiair offers, and if you really even need it at all. I'm just starting out too, and the asiair primarily interests me because of the integrated wifi, 12v ports, and less cabling. Beyond that, its tough to justify the cost as a beginner when my laptop works just fine, and I can put $300 towards a better camera instead.
Thank you. I found my problem. I got the ASIair Pro used and it had old data saved. Once I cleared the calibration data an did a new one it worked perfectly----with the USB.
Thanks for the tutorial. I've got two setups but have not started to do imaging yet. Always feel I need more info to just execute. I think this was what I was looking for. (Plus your other video I was commenting on celestron focal reducers and cameras.) I should focus on one first but why do that when I can be totally confused with two systems, right? I do have my trusty notebook to put all my notes and procedures in. This is gear I have and what I will keep with each set up for now. Explore Scientific ED 80 CF with Zwo ASI294 MC Pro Cooled for the main with ZWO ASI290MM Mini for guide scope on a CGEM II Mount. I have the ZWO ASI AIR but have the Plus on back order. The other scope is the Celestron CPC 800 on the GPS Alt Az goto mount. I have the ZWO ASI385MC that I am going to use to image with the CPC 800. I thought of moving the ZWO ASI Air to that when the Plus comes in. Do you think that would be redundant?
Cody, thank you for your focus on Celestron mounts-invaluable!!! Your videos are paced well and totally ‘user friendly.’ Very encouraging. Keep up the great work/videos. One question, you mention that a recalibration should take place after a meridian flip. If this is the case then you can’t simply do a true auto run and forget about the guiding. Could you please elaborate.
Yes, good point, I may have misspoke or messed up there! I keep my recalibrate after meridian flip turned off. That way it’s set and forget as you say. Excellent clarification.
Thank you for your very clear video. I just received ASIAIR pro+. I have an old racket so I have to buy the new one with USB connection. Will it be recognized by the AVX Celestron mount or will it be necessary to update the racket software with the mount and the Asiair? Thanks for your feedback.
Oh man! Exactly the info I needed, I have the same set up as well, so the asi air pro also have GPS? That's one of the features I really need, and the autofocus of course, I'm ordering it now.. Thanks man!
Solid guide. Do you ever use the "sync mount" button in the menu after doing a plate solve? I usually push it after slewing to a target and then doing another plate solve when it comes up in the plate solve menu, but it doesn't seem to have an effect either way if I push it or not before an imaging session 🤷♂️
I have a avx with a side by side bar so I have to place my Dec axis 90° out from the mark at home position. Other than that I think some of your tips will come in useful, especially pulling time and location data from the asiair, I wasn't aware this could be done.
Same here, I accidentally did it one day, and it took me a week to figure out how it’s done. The key is making sure the mount is on before the asi air, then connecting to the asi air and mount. Then you proceed and bam time, date and location automatically entered! :)
Great video! I just purchased a complete astrophotography setup and was pretty lost until I found this video. The step by step guide has helped me get my AVX mount talking to the ASIAIR Plus and once the weather cooperates, I'll get it outside to see if I can get some pictures. Any chance you could post a printable checklist? Thanks again!
Hi Cody, Thank you for your video. Very informative👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻. I just got today the ASIAIR Plus and I am using my CGEMII, but in my case when initiating the Polar Alignment in the APP, the mount slews 60 degress to the East and then another 60 degress, and it stops and stays there, and does nothing else. !!! Has this happen to you before? What is wrong with my ASI AIR, or CGEMII?
Cody, love the channel and thanks for this video. I've just got the CGX and 9.25" Edge HD, together with an ASI Air and this has proved invaluable to get it all talking together! Thanks. I'm having a lot of trouble focusing at the moment. Every time I move the scope the focus shifts widely and the EFA seems to go from one extreme to the other whilst trying to get good focus. I have the mirror lock screws at the back undone. I thought I only tightened those once focus was achieved, but when I do, the focus changes. Any hints?
Thanks for another excellent video. I commented on your earlier video on this topic that your use of a RASA must really help with the plate solve because you capture so many stars with the 8 inch aperture and low focal length. I have an SC 9.25 and an ASI 462 camera. I couldn't get plate solving to work due to the narrow field of view and the small sensor size on the ASI 462. Recently I added a 0.63 focal reducer and that helped substantially. Now plate solving works sometimes but only about one in five or ten attempts are successful. I'd welcome your thoughts on this. Can you do plate solving with a DLSR on the ASIAIR ?
THANK YOU SO MUCH. So many times its been baclk and forth. Cant believe this worked first time. NOW, How the heck do we use Sky safari planitarium with the asi air on a celestron avx, cgx etc ??????/ YOU ROCK BROTHER!!!
Thank you for your very clear and educational video. Once I get to the time screen, I can't get the Asiair to automatically transfer these time and date data. Is there a solution to this ?? Thanks for your feedback
Cody, this video is definitely worth saving as were your StarSense videos! Question: at 12:00 you switch over to guiding but you never clicked on Plate Solve; did you actually plate solve?
Hi Cody , love your channel and all your instruccions are on point ,and i apply them as i go ,but i have a question, when doing this setup ,do we have to do this everytime we setup or is it just a one time deal ,thank you again for taking care of us,Clear Skies
Thanks for the video... I have a Celestron AVX that I have had for years. 1 week ago I received an ZWO ASIAIR Plus and am trying to set it up. In your video you mention turning on the mount first without the ASIAIR Plus. Since The mount gets the 12 volts from the ASIAIR Plus how do I turn on the mount without activating the ASIAIR Plus? I have not been able to connect the ASIAIR Plus to the mount so that the ASIAIR Plus feeds the settings to the AVX. Thanks Richard
I use your process every time since I have an AVX mount. Works great. I have noticed that the mount direction arrows in the ASIAIR unit however will not move the mount. Any suggestions?
Not sure how this might fit. I watched the first part of the video because I was more interested in the “start up” with my AVX mount then the rest. Everything works fine after the start. The procedure I’ve been using is: Put the mount at index marks. Turn on the mount NOT the AAP. Go through the motions of aligning (latest update to the HC includes a “Quick Align” option, then says “Align Complete”. Turn on the AAP it will connect and you’re good to go. HOWEVER, and this is a biggie. In the US you need to put in STANDARD TIME manually (when daylight savings time is in effect) or you’ll be off by one hour. If I use his procedure (which I’ve not had a chance to try yet) the AAP gets the location, date/time from the iPad, iPhone, or other connected device. This will input the time as Daylight Savings. Please help me out with this or am I simply missing something in the initial startup procedure?
If you use the procedure presented here, you don’t need to enter time/date at all, it will correctly input it for you without worrying about st/dst time. Additionally, you can just do a fake alignment like I do, since you’ll be plate solving after.
@@AstroBlender This was my concern, since ZWO does not recognize the US Daylight Savings Time. Your procedure will be great, once I get a chance to use it. Looks like clouds in the US Upper Midwest for a week or more. Of course, my new scope a WO Flourostar 91 is arriving Friday (10/29).
@@AstroBlender Hi Cody. Tried your system three times and, each time, the ASIAir Pro did not connect to the mount. I’m using it in station mode, so it has to connect to my wifi before it can connect to anything. That might be the issue. The only way I could get it to work was to use my same old system that I detailed in an earlier post.
Thanks Cody. I have read on Cloudy Nights that newer CGX mounts are unable to connect to ASIair Pro. I have a new one and after updating firmware on the hand controller and mount and then following you protocol still don't get a connection. Supposedly there will be a ZWO fix at some point. Any thoughts since I believe your CGX is older?
Thanks! I get 60” exposures at best with my AVX and Stellarvue 130. This rig weighs in at 31#. Do you think I can longer exposures with a different celestron mount? If so which one do you suggest? Warren
Very helpful video Cody. I have the CGX and am on the way to automating it with Asiair plus. One challenge I have and have not found any videos on the topic is - how to fix the celestron focuser to a Edge 11 HD telescope which has a feathertouch focuser? - can you help or suggest something?
Nice video. Out of curiosity no quick align option or last align on the AVX? If there is then why you don't use that as rough start up point and do PA directly without doing star alignment via controller?
Hello Cody . Great video thanks for uploading. 👍🙂 I would like to ask (I just ordered such a model and my mount too AVX) when is AsiAir taking a picture, actually taking a picture( like a dslr camera?), or, for example, a multitude of frames with a 2-minute exposure like the SharpCap system, ergo video? My other question. I can see the Polaris nicely when I stand north behind the house...but if the AsiAir rotates the tube 60 degrees in polar alignment, I see exactly one roof in position. Does AsiAir polar alignment work this way, or should it be solved differently? Thanks for the reply in advance too. I want a clear sky from Switzerland 🤞
just received my Plus. use AVX and this helpful vid helped me out. thanks. how are you powering the set up? my dealer said the Celestron powertank lithium (not the Pro) would do. the ZWO instructions say the power outlets on the Plus are limited to 3A and not sufficient to power a mount?
Cody do you know your process works with CGX-L with the Prolific chipset, I’ve read a lot about issues with ASIAIR and the change Celestron made to the Prolific chip but can’t find any definite answers, thanks in advance for any help.
The first night my AVX slewed West instead of East to Vega. Major issue. Two things I did after stopping, I have the plus and DST may have been on so I switched to RTC, I deleted the ASI AIR APP and reloaded, however the hand control stuck in initializing. So I shut everything off again. Note, when the ASI AIR was turned back on it went to an update, later I checked the Lat/Lon and it was correct. I am now awaiting clear sky to try again.
would this set up work with the celestron nexstar mount also? I'm having problems trying to get that to talk to each other. An if you can't would you be able to do a tutorial with the nexstar and asi air pro? Also I have a celestron auto focus would there be a way to get that to work with the asi air pro also? Any info would be great, thanks for all the info you do put out there a lot of it helped me out a lot and still learning the telescope mount and asi with the cams and everything else i have for taking pictures. Again thanks for your tutorials they are a big help...
Hi Cody, Why the command delay more than 30 second to go to the target? (I have a AVX equatorial mount and the AsiAir Plus) please, let me know if you have an answer, thanks.
Really enjoy your videos Cody.....This maybe should be obvious but you didn't show where you plugged in the other end of the usb cable when you plugged it into the ASIAIR ?? Does the other end go into the handset or somewhere on the mount ?? Thanks....Mike, Ohio
Wow! A Homerun! I've been looking for a checklist to follow, using the ASI Air. You've saved me months of work. THANK YOU! FIVE STARS!!!!
I'm so glad! Thanks!
Thank you for your video. I learnt from it, I have to say I think the easiest procedure for AVX and asi air plus has changed. This is what does the trick for me.

+1 for the ASIAIR Plus
Glad to hear! Happy imaging!
Just got my CGX yesterday. Thanks to you, I was able to get the CGX and ASI Air working together!
@@peterschmitz4308 if you PM me in messenger with your email address I’ll forward you an email I got from ZWO this should help you.
@@swoyerrd Hi Robert. I was able to find a thread on the Cloudy Nights forum and get the updated OS. ASIAIR Pro now communicates and controls the CGEM II mount. Thanks.
@@peterschmitz4308 that’s exactly what I was going to email you, glad you got it working, clear skies…
Thanks for the detailed notes!
Just got my ASIAIR and EAF with a clear sky. Thank you for the instructions on set up. Very useful to a ASIAIR newbie.
Hey George. I have an AVX But I can’t get it to “download” the date and time like he did. Did yours work?
I have the same issue as @ovrcome.....it doesn't download the date and time and when I try to do polar alignment with the ASI AIR it fails. Both my ASI AIR plus and my AVX mount are brand new.
Cody, thank you taking the time to figure this out and then sharing it with the rest of us! When I followed your explanation exactly it worked great with my AVX.
Quick question do you connect guide camera to ASI Air or to the AVX mount
I have an AVX and just got the Asiair plus yesterday. Awesome video showing the step by step process. Thank you!!!
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Yep, go-to technology is pretty amazing!
Hi Cody, thanks so much for this. Finally I got the ASIAIR PRO to update my AVX with time & coordinates etc thanks to this video. I was so close to buying a Skysync GPS as I cant stand having to manually update my AVX every time I turn it on.
You’re welcome!
remind me to buy you a pint if i ever see you in a pub:) this is so helpful, probably the most helpful astronomy video ive found...thanks so much
Haha, I’m glad you found it helpful!
Did you increase exposure time to get enough stars and did you try adjusting the focal length mm setting under the main camera settings
@@svenop Yes to both....this has been a challenge. I cannot wait to get back home and try this procedure....
Great job..
Excellent guide with Celestron mounts for ASIAir. Appreciate for giving your time for this tutorial.
I’m glad you liked it!
Thanks so much for your contributions to the astrophotography community, you have helped me personally so much in getting up to speed quickly.
Glad to hear! Thanks for kind words.
I'm doing my first guiding session tonight with a Redcat51, asi 174mc, 120mm mini, asiair v1 and advanced gt mount, I m going to try your procedure, thanks.
Thank you for taking the time to explain your step-by-step procedure, It helped immensely.
I’m glad to hear that!
Getting caught up on videos. Freaking awesome tutorial video! You make getting the ASI Air package very compelling…you sold me. Thanks again for another great video, clear skies amigo.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great information! I was unsure about the benefits of the CGX / ASIAir combo, but I am sold on it now. Thanks!
I do not have a Celestron AVX/CGEM-II/CGX/CGX-L but much good information here that I can apply, great job!
Thanks, I’m glad you enjoyed it!
Followed your detailed steps and wow everything worked, thanks again
Good to hear.
Thanks for this video! It solidified my decision to buy an AVX and use it with my ASIAIR.
Check my post about connecting the AVX, there is a slight tweak from the video info to make it work
Lots of valuable timesaving tips and a clear process to use them. Your videos have helped pave the way to us completing our first rig. We have the zwo 533 on an original cgem. I hoping the zwo asiair works on it cause im sold😂
I bought an oag , hopefully that works for guiding the c11 with the .63 reducer.
Thank for taking your time to help others❤
Posting my newbie mistakes here so that it can help others :
(2600Mc Duo + C11 + CGXL + Asiair plus)
works for me everytime :
1) turn on the mount, set switch, then turn off the mount
2) turn on the Asiair, wait for the "beep", connect to Asiair wifi with your phone
3) turn in the mount, set switch, quick align, wait for the mount to say it's ready
4) go to your Asiair interface, everything should be connected !
Issues I had :
1) My whole setup is connected to a lithium battery.
I’m sure! Not sure if you watched all the video or not, but I mentioned I want a CGX-L at the end! Sweet mount, and would carry my SN-10 nicely.
@@AstroBlender Yes I did hear, and curious as to your big project! Future video material?
Very helpful and many thanks, you’re awesome, clear skies
Glad you found it helpful, clear skies as well!
Thanks again for your excellent step-by-step tutorial, Cody. It has really helped me.😀
I calibrate guiding every time- as shown in the video.
Cheers
Amazing tutorial !!!! Thank you , this was the only tutorial easy to follow and understand !! Really helpful and everything works !!! Thanks Cody !!!
Thank you for your video it saved me lots of time and headaches
I’m glad to hear that!
Thank you. I found my problem. I got the ASIair Pro used and it had old data saved. Once I cleared the calibration data an did a new one it worked perfectly----with the USB.
I’m glad to hear you got it working and ditched ST4, for USB! Enjoy!
Perfect instructions my friend, thank you, well done ! Cheers from a remote part of Utah... ;-)
Great Video, this was everything I was looking for.
Thank you, really nice and helpful video!
Thank you. Keep up the good work on your products.
@@AstroBlender As always. BTW, the v1.8 is coming
Thank you! Just what I was looking for…. subscribed and liked!!
Awesome, I’m glad you were able to find what you needed.
Thanks man!
No, but your device should do it can grab it straight from that! Glad you found it useful.
love your videos very helpful and easy to follow
Solid guide. Do you ever use the "sync mount" button in the menu after doing a plate solve? I usually push it after slewing to a target and then doing another plate solve when it comes up in the plate solve menu, but it doesn't seem to have an effect either way if I push it or not before an imaging session 🤷♂️
I don’t, I usually only image one target per night so once I plate solve I’m done. If I do slew to another target I just plate solve again.
Great information Cody! It is a video to save
Thanks Ray! I always appreciate your kind, thoughtful demeanor.
Hi Luis, I know it’s been 2 years but did you ever find a solution to this? I have a CGEM II and am having this issue.
Great! Thanks fir they video, Congratulationes
Any hints?
Hi Codi, excellent video. One question: Does the ASIAir Pro platesolving work with your C11 + 0.7 focal reducer + Zwo Asi 2600 MM?
I don’t have a C11, but on the C9.25 I haven’t had an issue plate solving.
What a PITA! Thanks for this. I now know I never want a Celestron mount. SKY-WATCHER AND PLATE SOLVING FTW!
Excellent, Thank you. It worked great.
Thanks, great information.
Thanks David, I’m glad you found it helpful!
THANK YOU SO MUCH. So many times its been baclk and forth. Cant believe this worked first time.
NOW, How the heck do we use Sky safari planitarium with the asi air on a celestron avx, cgx etc
??????/ YOU ROCK BROTHER!!!
Great instructions. Do you know if you can connect the ASI air to the AVX mount using the celestron wifi dongle instead of wired?
Dear, thanks for the video... i dont find the first instruction, swicth pos... is the same home position? how can i get....???? thanks
Yep, I know that feeling all too well! :) You’ll have to let us know how it works out for you!
Awesome video Cody. Will you do a similar video using the new ASIAIR’s All Star Polar Alignment routine? I have very limited access to Polaris
Thanks! I get 60” exposures at best with my AVX and Stellarvue 130. This rig weighs in at 31#. Do you think I can longer exposures with a different celestron mount? If so which one do you suggest?
Warren
Well done. Thanks!
Thanks!
Excellent! Thank you.
Very helpful video Cody. I have the CGX and am on the way to automating it with Asiair plus. One challenge I have and have not found any videos on the topic is - how to fix the celestron focuser to a Edge 11 HD telescope which has a feathertouch focuser? - can you help or suggest something?
I’m not sure if that’s possible. I don’t have much experience with FeatherTouch, so I can’t say I’d be of much help.
@@AstroBlender Thanks for the reply Cody. It seems like the Setso Senso2 focuser can do that. I will try it out and let you know.
Nice video. Out of curiosity no quick align option or last align on the AVX? If there is then why you don't use that as rough start up point and do PA directly without doing star alignment via controller?
Great breakdown! Thanks
Hello Cody . Great video thanks for uploading. 👍🙂
I would like to ask (I just ordered such a model and my mount too AVX) when is AsiAir taking a picture, actually taking a picture( like a dslr camera?), or, for example, a multitude of frames with a 2-minute exposure like the SharpCap system, ergo video?
My other question. I can see the Polaris nicely when I stand north behind the house...but if the AsiAir rotates the tube 60 degrees in polar alignment, I see exactly one roof in position. Does AsiAir polar alignment work this way, or should it be solved differently?
Thanks for the reply in advance too. I want a clear sky from Switzerland
🤞
just received my Plus. use AVX and this helpful vid helped me out. thanks. how are you powering the set up? my dealer said the Celestron powertank lithium (not the Pro) would do. the ZWO instructions say the power outlets on the Plus are limited to 3A and not sufficient to power a mount?
Cody, will this work on an older CGEM mount? The title mentions it but you on referenced to the CGEM II
Cody do you know your process works with CGX-L with the Prolific chipset, I’ve read a lot about issues with ASIAIR and the change Celestron made to the Prolific chip but can’t find any definite answers, thanks in advance for any help.
Excelente me fue de gran ayuda, saludos desde Copiapó Chile
Do you need a separate guide camera to use the guide feature in the asi air app?
Really enjoy your videos Cody.....This maybe should be obvious but you didn't show where you plugged in the other end of the usb cable when you plugged it into the ASIAIR ?? Does the other end go into the handset or somewhere on the mount ?? Thanks....Mike, Ohio
