    GEARS make the world go round!!! I've ALWAYS been a BIG fan of gear changes. I had a 1984 straight axle 4×4 Toyota that I put 5.88 grars in and ran 44 inch boggers and it would smoke the tires off the rims if you wanted it to and yes it still had the original 22R 4 banger

    I have 4.56's in my '65 stang and love it. I cruise at 3k rpm going 80 with an aod and 28" slicks. Been this setup for yrs with no issues. I built the aod when I put it in with a 35 stall. When the roll control is on, the front tires slide. Seems to not matter how hard I pop it, can't keep them stuck.

    Little known fact about these automatic equipped 4.6 2v's is anything below at least 3.73 won't improve your 0-60 time because while the stock gears will have you go all the way to or past 60 in 1st, a shorter gear will have you taking the time and power to change into 2nd and then pull in 2nd just before, which slows down anything you would have gained.
    So if you have these AOD/4r70Ws, you need AT LEAST 3.73s to improve that number if that's your goal.
    I will say that anything is better than the stock 2.73/3.08 power killers when it comes to overall drivability though.

      @@hotrodlincoln7186 That depends on what's more important to you, acceleration or highway cruising speeds? One of those will give you an edge over the other in one or the other.
      I used to have a Panther and also given my experience with an F150 I used to drive with 4.10s, I wouldn't hesitate to put those in it.

    • @hotrodlincoln7186

      @HAL-dm1eh ok, thank you.
      So would you say there's a huge difference between 373 to 410? Like acceleration wise.
      I do do some highway driving. The high rpms/gas mileage doesn't really concern me. I just don't want any drone nor do I want to be toped at 100mph. I want my top speed to be at least 130 to 145. I really don't know my top end speed on my town car. Do to its goved at 111mph.
      I do want to get a tune on it. But I want to get some longtube headers for my car. So, that way I can just have it tuned once and be done with it. None of this going back and forth of tunes. Lol. Right now I have a jmod done on it along a roush exale back exhaust with a X pipe. And changed to all the piping to 2 1/2 inches instead of just 2 inch. Plus I have a jmschip by pedalmax that really wakes up the throttle. Like a night and day difference.

    Doing a little math; 70mph at 3000 means you'll be doing 135ish at 5800rpm - in overdrive (I'm assuming you were using the overdrive gear on the hightway). Take out the overdrive and you're topping out your RPMs in the 1/4 mile by the time you hit 120. Kinda limits the amount of improvement you can get on the 1/4 mile. 1/8 mile will be good, maybe even on a road course if you don't mind a lot of shifting.

      That ran slower time because it didn't need a gear change any taller than what was in it. A 3.73 would've been your best bet with that engine/trans combo.
