      in my opinion Robby and Rudy over built their rigs trying to make them sema quality. the time Rudy spent on stripping paint could have been better spent finishing the mechanical parts of the rig and giving it a proper shakedown. Running it without fluid in the diff was a really dumb idea especially not checking to see if the hubs were locked in. Robby's Build was cool looking but seemed to function like a turd, and I'm still having a tough time believing that it was built within budget regardless of how they wanna break it down. Paul followed Colts winning strategy from the year before, which I remember colt saying was "Keep it simple" use dependable parts and build it for function first. I really liked Holly's build and the guy who built the bronco did awesome too, I didn't realize till recently none of his parts were sponsored by on x partners and was all out of pocket, so extra props there too! The Jag Wrecker looked neat, but also looked really tippy and unstable. I'm curious to see how Rudy's build performs, but now that Janelle put it through the ditch at cruising speed I don't know when that'll be. maybe the mini coopers cursed!?🤷‍♂️😂 props to all who finished in time, it kinda screwed things up with colt dropping out and others showing up days late to basically just do the sema thing

  • @toddhoffmaster6057
    @toddhoffmaster6057 2 месяца назад +10

    This was another great challenge. I do not understand why all competitors did not show up with their builds on time. This is a timed challenge and everyone had the same amount of time to complete their builds. It does when you choose a vehicle for your build to be purposeful from the beginning. I get it that it is cool and way out of the box to build some outlandish type vehicle - but if you can't complete it in time and within the budget that was given then what is the point. The whole idea was that any one of us could possibly build such a vehicle and be competitive/off road worthy and within the budget.

    • @PennyTrayshun-u8u
      @PennyTrayshun-u8u 2 месяца назад +8

      @@joshuacox5680 They can “explain” all they want but at the end of the day they are just excuses. The reality is they had since March to get them done and at the end of the day it was poor time management. I like Rudy a lot, he is super creative and talented but he is really bad with time management. Almost every time I’ve seen him come up against a deadline he’s been late, unprepared, or unfinished. His creativity plays a part in that as well. He needs to find a balance between thinking outside the box and his time frame and I think that will come, he’s still a young man. Robby also was down to poor time management, well that and going way overboard. He had multiple big projects going on at the time but he signed himself up for them knowing he had the competition. He had my favorite vehicle there, even before the competition started, but I feel he was more concerned with it being at SEMA than the competition. Realistically all the fancy paint and gingerbread could have been done after the competition and that rig could have been there on day one. I get why he did what he did it just took away from the competition aspect. Even though it was my favorite build it was totally unrealistic for the regular person to build for $20k. Without friends and sponsors there was probably that much money there in paint, powder coat, interior and flooring not to mention the paid labor on the build, yowzers, he had an army helping him. They all worked their butts off and produced an amazing product but being late was was completely self inflicted. I personally feel that any team that was late, dropped out, or switched vehicles should not be invited to compete next year. The people who took the obligation serious showed up on time. I also don’t agree with the winner, no one else had a chance. The fan votes should only partially factor into things because a channel with 6k suscribers can’t compete with 600k. I get that the bigger names draw the people but I think the competition would be much better with all (or at least more) wild card teams. They also need clear and consistent rules eliminating room for interpretation. Again I get why they were late, I certainly couldn’t have done any better but it was all self inflicted

  • @Ottothegreat7
    @Ottothegreat7 2 месяца назад +6

    Kevin Jones was the real winner! He has 6k subscribers how could he possibly compete with Rab Fats 600k. Fan votes should only factor in as a small percentage. Orrrrr when it comes to crowning a winner I think if you hold the competition a month or two prior to and event like SEMA. Air the competition part giving everyone an opportunity to watch the competition and see what vehicles were built (and actually showed up) then after that open the voting for a week, one vote per person, and announce the winner and prize at SEMA. It makes no sense that teams that didn’t even show up placed higher than teams that were there. It’s also kinda silly to let the competitors air competition footage before you air it. What ever happens I think there needs to be big changes moving forward.

  • @Quark-b9f
    @Quark-b9f 2 месяца назад +15

    On X if you do this next year any of the people who were late, dropped out, or switched vehicles shouldn’t be eligible. The fan vote should also only factor in a small amount and they should only be done once the vehicles were completed for a certain amount of time. There is no way a channel that has 500k + suscribers can’t compete compete with a channel that has 10k suscribers. Also one vote per person period. No one really had a chance winning this year with Fab Rats numbers. You also need to come up with stricter rules and guidelines on vehicles. There is no way the average guy could have built those rigs in finished form for $20k. This had such the possibility of being super cool but it was sadly a huge let down. Lastly you should have done more update over the months and stayed on top of the competitors Colt and Rory could have been replaced with a deserving team months ago.

      It is still fun to compete against friends. Hol kind of embraced the fact that winning by vote totals simply wasn’t possible. She set out from day 1 to build something practical that anyone else could replicate in their home garage. She did go a bit overboard with things like steel knuckles and ball joint deletes, but they were the right choice for the long term (since she loves the rig and will absolutely be keeping it).
      Hollie’s next video will be a complete break down of the cost and I think you guys will be really surprised with just how affordably these vehicles can be built.

    It’s a breath of fresh air they included a wildcard who clearly belongs here. OnX really has lost their way of listening to their true customer base by doing exactly what was discussed here, putting money into influencers. That said I did watch and enjoy it

    • @walterfowler4720
      @walterfowler4720 2 месяца назад +2

      What do the true customers want (in your opinion)? Maybe if you share they will listen.
      Also, I’d categorize most of the participants as content creators and not really influencers. Their full-time job is focused projects like these, which is why they can actually participate. I doubt many people can actually afford to commit 2-3 months to a project (building, filming, etc…). It’s just not realistic that you’d be able to get 5 people who are willing to burn that much of their family/vacation/personal time on something like this. Kevin Jones is the exception not the rule 😅.

    • @bjwilliams6115
      @bjwilliams6115 2 месяца назад +1

      @ haha you’re 100% correct with that. I am saying that they have stopped looking for the community input they have valued from inception. Their trail ambassador program is a shell of what it was and they focus on features such as Apple car play and instead of features like weather overlays within app, a more improved landscape mode, downloads of a set map instead of downloading 30 when visiting an area, and the list goes on.

      @@bjwilliams6115 oh, that’s a totally separate thing (development versus marketing). We have quite a few friends who are out there mapping public land trails and offroad park trail systems. I’d say both are important and from what I have seen both are expanding because I’ve seen an increasing number of people join as trail ambassadors…but I can’t speak to the state of the trail ambassador program now versus a few years back.

    If only Holly's Jeep had a bit more power...would a hemi fit? Nate's build was super cool - just missing a roll cage and a little gearing. The win couldn't go to a nicer guy, with an even nicer partner; if only he knew how to pronounce the Jeep named after John N. Willys; think Bruce Willis. I was surprised at how well Holy Grail came out with Josh's help; I'll never question Matt's vision, again.
    Kevin deserves MVP for his successful build that hauled him and his wife 600+ miles to compete where he WON two events.
