- James Kelly on New Traditions. New Traditions was a cable TV show that became The Mr. Stock & Mr Poe Show (we did have to find a new sponsor who never saw the show). James Kelly is considered one of the top traditional Irish fiddlers and plays a few tunes. Also included, our producer Mark Weiser makes an appearance. I am not sure of the date, maybe 1988.
Some parts of this interview are so funny, but James giving immaculate answers and explanations to all these questions
Cousin: I prefer my jigs played slower so that I can sink into them. I do an Elvis Presley and a Chubby Checker step but I have clung to the Ottawa Valley Classical Step Dancing Tradition that my father taught me over decades of watching him teach and dance. My syncopated rhythms were noted by Jackie Daly 1981 or was it Spiddal 1976? I was on Capel Street in 1981 but was not made aware of your father's shop, otherwise I would have popped in! When I identify the precise location of our common ancestor, I'll write again. Beyond Shannonbridge!
Lmao
Q: Is that intimidating at all or exciting to you that you're going to be playing with Kevin Burke?
A: Well it's not intimidating no.
This is so embarrassing. Poor James Kelly. The witless carrying on of these hosts is pathetic. I mean, if they were actually funny and could relate to their guest, it would've been fine. That they ask if it's hard for him to play solo shows just how totally their guest is unknown to them. Fools.
Lovely playing from James as usual. But, uh, why does the set look like it’s full of trash lol?
DEEPSHIT took a hitch with Beatrix Potter. Google Loretta Morrison Edmonton. Victoria Day here in Canando tomorrow! Like my father's brother would say, "We're all having a lot of fun."
