Great video. You did this with ease and now I’m super confident I can do it.

Hi. That is not the filler plug. I made the same mistake. I believe that it is a locating axle. The filler plug looks like a filler plug, and is a short tapered thread. It is also an 8mm Allen . It is small and so easy to miss, but it is also much easier to get to and is located on the rear of the diff casing.
I just hope that by removing it I have not let something drop, but all seems OK

I think you're right- the actual(?) filler plug is visible at 6:30 adjacent to the black splash cover, on a small plinth on the side of the case toward the rear. It sits completely flush with the case, and in this case is caked with mud. That is above the exhaust and appears to be slightly easier to access.

Every time I wash the Landy I'm left with another few lbs of dirt from that trip. It was fun though.

Why do you need to measure? Why not just make sure the vehicle is level and then fill it up until fluid starts leaking out the fill hole?

Geat video. How do you tell the difference between a locking and an open rear diff? I have 2010 RRS SC

If you get underneath and feel on the top of the rear differential you’ll find an electrical connection for the locking diff. If it’s a standard differential then the electrical connection won’t be there. Also you can feel for the electrical actuator on the top of the differential. This is about the size of a drinks can and is horizontally located with the electrical connector going into it.

Any need to calibrate the locking diff clutch motor like you do when changing transfer case fluid?

Nope. Only when you replace the motor. Then it’s just a function test. Every time you start the engine the locking diff motor goes through a full lock unlock calibration. That’s the clicking you can hear from the rear.
