  • A clinical psychologist from Imperial College describes how Magic Mushrooms (Psilocybin), when used in a therapeutic setting, have been found to be a very effective treatment for depression. In this talk she draws on her experiences as working as a therapist on the groundbreaking Psilocybin for Depression study, and introduces us to some of the patients and their stories of transformation.
Dr Rosalind Watts completed her clinical psychology training at University College London. After six years of practicing psychotherapy in the NHS, she joined a clinical trial at Imperial College, investigating psilocybin (magic mushrooms) as a treatment for depression. Her research explores patients' positive views of this intriguing therapy.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

I have been depressed for a long time, but after taking shrooms few months ago, l feel much happier and highly motivated and my ADHD gone , lost a ton of anxiousness and had a few epiphanies about how I should live my life. I decided to buy an ounce for backup, but haven’t yet felt the need to take any more since then.

Srbodlak Kuzmanovic I had a very positive and life changing experience from mdma. I also tried magic musroom a few months ago but it was very overwhelming and not the best setting. Still a cool experience but didn't get any lessons from it. But i will try it again this summer in a bettet environment, maybe nature. And yes you can't really have a discussion about psychedelics with people who haven't tried it. It's just unlike anything you have experienced before.

Also for ego-death experience you need high dose, papers said at least 25mg psilocybin... Light doses don't produce such effects. I ate a bunch :P

Works well for me too, I take it when i feel its necessary usually every 2-3 months, sometimes it goes longer. I pick the shrooms myself btw. I have tried foreign types too, that I have bought but its not the same.. the once I pick my self seems way better then Mexican etc. (I'am living in Norway). Might be they contain more psilocybin sins they grow slower... only my theory.. not a scientist.

I'm dosing .5 grams every 7 days. For the last 3 weeks. Feeling AMAZING!!!!! Depression is gone. Energy level is way up. Getting 6 to 8 hours of GREAT sleep. My OCD has calmed down. I have a " love" for everything again. Cluttered mind, is again fouced. After suffering 3 miscarriages in the last 2 years.. my mental health took a downward spiral. This is my 7th time the last 15 years that I have microdosed. I'm not longer on any meds for my PTSD, OCD & BPD.
I was both shocked & amazed to find so much new information on this subject!!! Over 35 years of dealing with my mental health issues. I swear this is the one thing that works for me!

      Grow them yourself at home.
I'm from germany, and here you can (not sure if legally) order grow-kits which you can set up at home in like 1 hour.
Or you can start it all from scratch with mycelium and build your own "cake".
It takes about 6 weeks until you can harvest the first flush, and you can harvest a kit multiple times. Just look it up on the internet.

the addiction effects are unbelievable. its as real as can be, however probably doesnt work on some of the most severe-cases-of-addiction. in my eyes; those people just need to take 2-3x as much as what ''didnt work'' because research says drug-addicts should not be given drugs; however psychedelics are tools that the research says SHOULD be given to addicts.

It was like I didn’t experience life the same as others. Now after taking psylocybin I feel genuinely amazing. Sometimes I’ll be doing something so small and insignificant like driving to work and I’ll feel better than I did in years by just noticing things in the landscape or in a song I like. I started to micro dose - and things immediately changed. It's exactly what she says: Feelings are unlocked, different pictures come up in dreams, perspectives change - and, because it's just a minor dose: changes are very decent, but obviously. I cry a lot and often those days - but it's relieving - a crying as an expression of self-understanding and a «let go» in a good way. My depressions are here, since I can remember; I tried everything - absolutely everything - psilocybin is the first thing that really helps. And till here, there are no side-effects.

While I have tried ayahuasca and mescaline for spiritual growth, I have found that the only thing which really breaks though my emotional barriers is psilcybin. I've had very hardcore depression brought on from life circumstances, which I thought I would never be able to get out of, but a high dose of mushrooms and a hike in the mountains, essentially flooded my conciousness with pure universal love and instantly cured me of depression and rid me of my anxiety.

Thanks for the insight. I love that label: circumstantial depression. I feel that's where most people are, simply depressed and numbed from a life of western culture (dead end job, never-ending competition, & denial of emotions).
This extends to friends & family: marriages falter, friends fade away, & life starts to suck. You miss the old days and then you start searching for happiness in all the wrong ways. You simply stop feeling, you're less human.
BUT, deep down, where it really counts, you have joy & love, it's just hard to find. That is circumstantial, you just need a way to reach that better part of yourself. And when you find it, that's what leads to the long term results she is speaking of in the vid.
However, if you're kinda shitty in that deep down place, who knows.

Big pharma has figured out there. Is much more money to be made in managing the symptoms than curing an illness depression, the most common mental illness, if big pharma can hook you up taking a drug, every day for the rest of your life, which they do, makes them billions, it is the life blood of their industry. Now if there was a drug that could be possibly even growing in your back yard, that you could get for free, that could cure you, or even be taken occasionally, for free, that worked better, would they want you to know? How far would they go to keep this knowledge suppressed, would they go as far as influencing the law makers to criminalizing it? Oh I think so , there is no opportunity to make a buck of it, it's available for free to any one any where that wants to go find it, so what do you do to protect your multi billion dollar empire.
Criminalize the cure, spread misinformation to scare people away from it, and keep on racking in the cash. And that worked, until the Internet showed up. Now it's much harder to keep the truth suppressed and they can see crackes forming in the foundation of their empire. A popular saying, " if you want to know the truth, follow the cash ".

In the uk where this research took place, SSRI treatments are provided free by the NHS, costing the government vast amounts of money. So theoretically, it is actually in the government's interest to allow medicinal use of these substances, which could be grown cheaply on a large scale and, since they are just plants, do not face the huge costs of patented drugs from big pharma. However the older generation has incredible voting power in the uk, and they tend to hold socially conservative views, making a law change unlikely in the near future, at least under a Tory government.

I have suffered with CPTSD (makes PTSD look like a walk in the park), Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), severe anxiety, and alcohol abuse for 17years stemming from childhood trauma followed by two combat tours in the military. I quit drinking 9 months ago and by doing so it was like looking under the hood to see the damage of the motor - it was bad. I then began to suffer horrendous OCD on top of the above mentioned conditions and symptoms. I have honestly been fighting thoughts of wanting to die. I have done every kind of therapy and pharmaceutical. 4 days ago was my first session with psylocibin. I have unpacked so much trauma from talk therapy over the years but the damage it has done has been immense and I thought it was permanent. After my first psylocibin session I could physically feel my brain tearing new positive and loving pathways in my mind, and I was torn out of years of trauma, I seen doors opening in my mind with terrifying hands trying to pull me in to investigate more of my past and in a HUGE moment of clarity I heard an empowered inner-voice say "there is nothing back there for you anymore" and it was like I had been lifted into the clouds connected to everything beautiful god has to offer, I was immediately laughing in a moment of freedom. Psylocibin gives you an introspective that is connected in clarity to your emotional state. With long term sufferers of poor mental health when we experience happiness we are scared of the darkness, when we are in the darkness we are scared of happiness because of the fear of losing it. We never truly get to experience inner-freedom. Psylocibin is the key, you are the master, but without this medicine thats been used for 3500 years some of us just will never reach this level of healing. By the afternoon of the following day after my first session my remunerating thoughts came back, so I used half the dose from the first sessions and now ALL symptoms are COMPLETELY gone. I never cry, but I cried because I can't believe I suffered for so many years without knowing about this. It has saved my life and given me a future.

Just be aware that there are possible risks of microdosing psilocybin in the long term as increased serotonine levels in the blood (for an extended period of time) can lead to heart disease.
I am not entirely certain so correct me if I am wrong, but what I can remember this relates to the stimulation of the 5-HT2B receptor and can lead to Valvular Heart Disease (VHD).
I am careful to state how severe the risks are as there is very little information out there, but as long as you don't microdose for extended periods of time you should be fine. I really hope the legal status and stigma of hallucinogens will change so that we can learn more about the benefits and risks of microdosing.

Firstly, I am very sorry for what you and your sister are going through. I cannot imagine what it feels like.
Reading your comment it strikes me as odd, that someone is willing to go to the extreme of suicide, but not wanting an to try an option because of possible societal disapproval. I'm not writing this to sound clever, but hoping to offer a maybe helpful outside perspective. At this point it would seem like: what do you have to lose? It's like not accepting some kind of vage potential damage, but accepting the ultimate damage/destruction. After all, suicide would still be possible after trying the shrooms. I'm sorry, if I sound too technical or emotionless with such a topic, I know there are many irrational factors at play. But sometimes rationalizing can help see things differently.
Anyway, I hope for your sister and you and everyone involved, that she finds the solution she needs.

Things were crazy for a while but I went with it after a while and embraced it, the closed eyed visuals I seen we're off the scale absolutely amazing, at the end of the trip after I came to I messaged my mate I couldn't believe what I experienced words don't come close!!!!! Shrooms changed my life. I was at the beach and just saw a bunch of shapes and patterns and the beach turned into a Forrest and I ran into the Forrest, the clouds looked like ancient gods shinning light on me and the world seemed brighter. I saw rainbows and faces in the sky. Then a voice telling me to let go of the past because that person is dead and the new me doesn’t have anxiety or depression anymore. In my trip I died and was reborn. I been taking medications on and off and going to therapy for two years and nothing cured my postpartum depression. I was even hospitalized many times for anxiety attacks but all of those memories disappeared and I saw a light. Then once the hallucinations calmed down. I couldn’t stop laughing with my friend for hours. After it was over I didn’t feel depressed anymore or anxiety for the FIRST TIME. I was so happy I couldn’t stop crying. I was feeling suicidal and I decided to try something drastic and it seriously saved my life. No amount of therapy, religion, medication or anything on this planet would of done what shrooms did to me. I took 2grams and picked a gorgeous location and was with my best friend. Location and people is everything to make sure you have a good and beautiful trip.

I went on a mushroom motivational trip one time, quit cigarettes thanks to it. I’ve also heard many stories of other people quitting the same way. The trick is to get all the knowledge and try and transform it into good habits, without the need of constantly having to use them. I’m still learning how to apply that information into my own life, it ain’t easy specially coming from a negative upbringing. Mushrooms were a huge help to me and I feel like most people would benefit from them too.

I have struggled with depression and anxiety for the past 6 years. I've tried EVERYTHING and nothing worked. I've tried 3g of golden teachers 2 days ago and I still can't believe what a life-changing experience I've had. It's really magical. I'm feeling for the first time as I was feeling pre-depression, like a young guy full of dreams and ready to conquer the world. My headspace is so clean. I see everything from a beautiful perspective again.
It's really life-changing. Just do it with an open mind and with respect. Set your intentions before the trip: talk to the mushrooms and say to them that you want to overcome your depression. You might feel nervous at first but they will not let you down. Just remember, they are TEACHERS. In my experience, I was accompanied by an entity in the shape of a woman who took me on a beautiful journey and it was always by my side the whole trip.
The most important thing, LET YOURSELF GO. Just ride the wave. Don't try to fight to experience. Just embrace everything that will come. "But the ticket, take the ride."
In my case I did it in my dark room with music and with my eyes closed. Just amazing.
      Wish you the best.

Growing up I lived by the basic status quo of mushrooms, how bad they were and what they can do to you etc.
My family and I were big anti weed advocates but eventually getting older I made my own decisions and I started smoking weed myself.
At first i saw it as a “fun drug” i would smoke with my friends and we’d all have a laugh, eventually I started to smoke before my cardio and I lived by this giant orchard, I would smoke and run for about half an hour and those trips were insanely eye opening. This was where I had my first “awakening”. My depression wasn’t as bad anymore and I didn’t contemplate suicide at all.
Over the last 2 years I’ve been a big weed guy, but diving into these other psychedelics made me question how it can help me. I was interested in DMT but felt like i wasn’t ready, so I decided to start off with magic mushrooms, technically psylocibyn pills.
My girlfriend and I took about 1200 mg of these pills and we waited for them to hit. It wasn’t until about 2 hours in we started feeling them.
We were giggling and laughing, an hour later I felt the hard full effect. And oh my god I was bawling my eyes out.
I was crying and crying and letting all the pain I had inside, so many deaths so many funerals I’ve been through I never actually processed my life.
My gf was holding me and I felt so vulnerable. I let everything out and when I finally came to, for the first time in my entire life I heard, silence.
I know it’s not crazy but I felt like there was always a voice messing with my head not letting me live my happiness. Those pills single handedly changed my conscious, my anxiety was thrown out the door, not a single ounce of depression and I felt reborn.
Visually I didn’t see much BUT what I did see, to me was ASTOUNDING.
I don’t know if anyone else would see this but I swear I saw these hieroglyphics, on my walls, couch, skin, floor etc etc.
Looking closer I realized it was not only hieroglyphics but even tribal patterns, Arabic letters, Aztec patterns, and even like those long giant math equations you stereotypically see in movies.
What these pills did for me in 8 hours , weed did in 2 years.
I will always remember how I felt feeling that pain just drifting off with every single tear drop.
It was such a deep experience I wish people erased the stigma of how bad they are.
I would love it if my parents tried it with me even a small dose.
I am a big believer now and i genuinely feel that if I had taken this years before my life would be in such a different place

And the conviction of not being able to exhaust my body got so ingrained to myself that I didn't even try sports again for a long time after I was secretly healed already. A trip helped me reevaluate the situation and I went on my bike 2 days after, feeling so strong again. Sprinted up a mountain on a summer day and sitting down on top of it watching into the colorful scenery was soo liberating. I truly believe that mushrooms break stubborn patterns...
