Anthony, Here's a review on my Plenum Intake modification. Recently I developed a valve cover gasket oil leak. So I ordered Victor Reinz151010701gasket and New spark plugs NGK LFR5AHX Ruthenium as I'm ready there...So I removed the plenum to facilitate the other Maintenance. Completed the new valve cover gasket and new plug installation...Then I went Old School trying to Port & Polish the plenum...Using a grinder, I reshaped the fat inlet plenum tubes to more thinner aerodynamic flowing...I must of removed about 3/16 or more of material from some areas...Then I followed it with 200 grit sandpaper to finish irregularities...Finishing was done throughout with a 3 in corse wire wheel on a drill...I used the wire wheel extensively in the inlet tubes to make then smooth as possible...I used a smaller wire wheel to polish the lower 6 outlet tubes...Moved to the upper plenum cover and removed the throttle body...Here I was aggressive with the 3in wire wheel as it was nearly the same size as the opening...I believe I opened that area by 1/16 to make it smooth flowing...CAREFULLY, I did the same thing to throttle body...I washed the plenum with degreaser and brush and let dry ...Coated all the interior plenum parts with 303 Graphene for added slickness and protection against vapor oils collecting. BOTTOM LINE: My Butt dyno says that I have made a noticeable power gain. Was it a new set of plugs versus 100k miles originals or the extensive plenum rework? I know I'm ecstatic about the results!
Well done man! I never get tired of seeing anyone do this process. I modded my stock airbox by removing the lower reservoir and made my own RAM forced air induction passage behind the bumper. been like that for 3 years without codes. Anyway, great vid and tutorial
thizzface Nice, that's a good idea with the airbox. Ya I haven't done a video and I think it's crucial if you're going to be a big 350Z channel you kind of have to show this mod.
Yea youre right. Especially for Z owners. You can say we all become engineers within our own right as long as you have the willingness to learn. You really cant lose
Hey man, I just installed mine. You actually want to remove the studs from the lower plenum and not reuse them. Motordyne supplies new screws for these two holes. Also, the extra long screw goes into the hole next to the throttle body. Motordyne supplies exactly the right amount of screws to completely replace the original hardware. Also for anyone installing this, the fat washers for the strut bar go underneath the strut bar feet to provide additional clearance for the new taller plenum. It should clear it as well as not ruin your hood.
This is a good, informative video! I've run both stock DE and Revup plenums on my cammed DE, but I have a tendency to overthink things lol. For example, I measured the two plenums, and the Revup plenum is roughly one pound lighter, so that seems like a lot more air volume in the plenum. After installing the Revup plenum, peak power dropped on my z, from 300 to 283, but I installed a plenum spacer to hopefully bring that back up. It would be dope to have 300 whp again, but holding it all the way to redline. The DE plenum + plenum spacer dropped off sharply after 6200 rpm or so, which I was disappointed with, and is why I went the direction I did. Cheers!
Good job man! Note: make sure you uncompress the strut tower before unbolting it, not doing so will add pressure and strip the bolts on the mount....like I did on mine.
AnthonyJ350 Yeah I made a video on the spacer install about 2 years ago I believe? I removed the strut bar the same way you did and it stripped 3 bolts. had to get new ones

Not sure why the previous owners would do that but leave everything else completely stock, unless it was an upgrade option available on the 2005 I'm unaware of. Or if the previous motor blew up at some point. (Bought it at 60k miles).

I've been debating on whether or not to get a plenum spacer. It just seems like the engineers at Nissan designed the motor and the intake but it doesn't seem like a 5/16 spacer in the front part of the cylinder intake runner makes no difference. You do have to realize is dependent on the vacuum that is being sucked into the motor. How has that space or that you put on bin after having the car for a few years?
AnthonyJ350, I am wanting to upgrade my plenum and manifold. I want to go with the Motordyne MREV 2 lower manifold, and rather than go with the Motordyne 5/16 spacer kit, purchase a Kinetix Racing KX-V-Z33 V+ Intake Plenum. Would love to hear your thoughts on this. I like the Kinetix upper plenum because I believe it will reduce heat sink far more than the 5/16 spacers, plus increase overall plenum aiflow volume. If I installed these two items correctly without a vacuum leak, would it throw an engine code?
Really good questions. You would need to do the ECU reset after installing your parts to make sure the car can learn the new air flow. But the car will really benefit from a tune ruclips.net/video/eC1-hE3PBf0/видео.html I get what you're saying with the V Plenum and I actually have a video testing that. I think the most beneficial thing is have a free flowing exhaust and installing the Iso Thermal Upgrade from Motordyne, that will help keep your temps down. ruclips.net/video/SXZq0NOgsbU/видео.html
Maybe you will see this, maybe you won’t. I already plan on getting a RevUp tune. Plan is to get Intake, 75mm throttle body, plenum spacer, exhaust before tune. Can I put the MREV 2 on before I get the tune? Or should I wait tell after? Might be a dumb question, but I’m new to this stuff.
Travis Anderson Go ahead and install all of your bolt ons and do the ecu reset to get you by ruclips.net/video/5tQm28K32SQ/видео.html Afterwards get a dyno tune with UPRev as soon as you can.
thank you! I am currently installing the iso thermal on my m35. I've heard the copper throttle body can actually reduce gains if you live in a warm state (cali)? Should I install it but have the coolant go to the manifold instead... my kit didn't come with a control valve.
The assumption could be made just on theory, without any verified testing. I don't see an issue with the copper gasket. It's honestly whatever you're comfortable with. For California with the bypass valve should be fine.
@@krashkrash119 I'm not sure because I put on the throttle spacer at the same time. I have met a few people that really believe having one that is machined to help the air swirl is beneficial. I figure it will also help as a heat sink and technically helps add volume in the plenum. Honestly it just makes me feel good that it's there lol.
@@AnthonyJ350 ahh i feel. I finished installing the plenum but my car starts really rough and almost about to stall and shakes a lot. doesn't sound too happy either. tried the reset procedures too... you know of any solutions? I think it's the throttle body since I cleaned that but I'm not sure.
Did your car throw any codes following the install? Also, at the end when you start the engine and blip the throttle, you hear a faint chirp or "squeak" sound at each blip. Do you know what causes that? I ask because I hear it every time I depresses the throttle quickly each time after I shift.
Av8tor No but I did the ECU reset right after and got the UPRev Tune shortly after. ruclips.net/video/5tQm28K32SQ/видео.html No I haven't heard the noise from the throttle. I'd take it apart and inspect it. Just DON'T push on the butterfly valve with your fingers.
I picked up a stock non rev up lower plenum from the junkers for $15. Could I be a cheapskate and use it with the 5/16 spacer I have to net positive gains? Maybe my high rpm hp won’t be as good as mrev2? I have a 06 G35 rev up
It's definitely worth a try. I would take the time to grind smooth any imperfections. Motordyne did take the time to strategically grind down key areas. That's what helps make the MREV2 effective. But changing the runner length and adding the spacer should help you gain in the mid range.
would this work on a regular de motor, ive been having limp mode issues and i believe its the knocking sensor, while i was in there i thought i might as well replace this and get a little more even power, but didnt know if it would make my regular de motorrun even odder
@@AnthonyJ350 I already did that. I bought the car about a week ago in limp mode and replaces the o2 sensors and got it to go off. But my knocking sensor is mis reading or something. I think it's a mixture of that and me not reseting the throttle body. After I do that today I hope I get rid of limp mode. It's very weird how it's working right now. Its usually fine for the first few miles full power... But randomly just drops to like half throttle
It's the intake runner length. The REVup did a different setup compared to the DE for top end power. The MREV2 is a modified DE lower plenum for better air flow. Also the REVup has variable valve timing on intake and exhaust to take advantage of this. The revup will also only make the bigger gains if matched with the plenum spacer and use the iso thermal gaskets to prevent heat soak to help maintain power when the engine is hot.
Maybe if you install it incorrectly, this thing has been awesome, the midrange power is so much better in the car now. It's weire how he said "might lose power". So they're saying sometimes there's a gain and other times there's a loss?
I have an 06’ g35 coupe i was thinking about putting just a spacer on the upper plenum but im hearing that its better to just get an mrev 2 instead of just going with a spacer because its an 06’, any suggestions or info on whats best?
Is there any way to rev up a non rev up DE? Mine feels like it reaches their limit in 4K rpms . To be honest I’m not sure if is a rev up or not since some people say that the rev ups have the gauge limit in 3 or 4K, mine goes to 7k
There is no way to retrofit from what I know. If you're looking for more power, consider doing supporting mods and look into super chargers if you're looking for a lot more power. The plenum spacer and a tune will do a lot for your engine.
AnthonyJ350 oh dang, do you think I might have a problem with a new exhaust if my car is not a rev up? I’m switching the test pipes y pipe and the exhaust
@@AnthonyJ350 Cause I heard a crunching sound on two bolts, but it didn't cause the bolt to loosen up or anything super tight and the only thing I can think of is the 6 plastic spacer in the middle might be bent maybe.
@@braesbal9236 If crunching the spacer might be cracked. You'll want to order new ones and take it apart and inspect. If you want to be on the safe side
Can I do this on my 2006 350z touring vq35de engine I have 163k miles and wondering if this would cause more engine oil 2 burn how was your experience with this mod did it run better lmk if this would be a good idea I guess my engine burns more oil the this hr I just brought the z 2 weeks ago and getting familiar with the different engines Ant lmk thanks bro..
I think they would perform very similar in terms of making power. I chose the 5/16th spacer for overall durability of the aluminium plus it looks stockish. To help combat heat soak the aluminium suffers from I use Motordyne's Iso Thermal kit ruclips.net/video/SXZq0NOgsbU/видео.html
But now you have no gasket between the plenum spacer and the upper plenum. Wouldn't it have been better to re-use the old gasket by putting it on top of the spacer?
It is, but they seem to modify some key areas to maximize air flow. Think of it similar to porting cylinder heads. If you're on a budget go for a used lower plenum. If you want max performance get the MREV2, you won't be disappointed.
AnthonyJ350 yeah I’m on a budget and was thinking of getting lower plenum from a non-revup so I can buy nwp throttle body and z1 plenum spacer for the price of one mrev 2😊 I think it should show a good gain still even without the full mrev2 I’d probably be losing about 5-8hp without it? What do u think the difference is with mrev 2 and one lower plenum
@@chefkcooks2978 biggest difference is how they smooth it out and modify it for airflow. If you look at "porting heads" you can see some substantial gains from doing it after with the same hardware. Also look into the ISO thermal gaskets for the plenum.
@@chefkcooks2978 the runners are a different length so you should feel something. You'll have to do an ECU reset (I have a video) but preferably do a tune after all your bolt-ons.
Maybe I misunderstood you but I have a 2006 350z vq35de Revup. Can I do just the spacer or do I have to do both? Or is both just better increases? Thank you for the awesome vids
Throttle body spacer is totally optional. You can do the Mrev2 and just the plenum spacer. I highly recommend the iso thermal gasket set though to reduce heat soak.
So no need to bleed the coolant system after unplugging the coolant lines? I want to add the valve on mine but no body ever says if it has to be bled after 🤦🏻♂️
Hey For some reason when I installed my z1 spacer my hood didn't close properly without the strut bar orbwith it. Any ideas why?? All the tools were removed and when I close the hood it bulges out. Any ideas why I have a g35 engine in a 03 350z,ik it's the same but would it have to do something about the engine height and how it sits
Hey I know this is off topic of the plenum spacer, but does your 350's exterior door handle have any bubbles? Mine has some bubbles and I'm considering painting it but I'm not sure how I should do it or should I just buy replacements.
No mine doesn't. I'll make a video for basic car care featuring the 350Z and spots to focus on. Maybe consider getting it wet sanded first then getting something applied like X-Kote's paint renewal system.
AnthonyJ350 Yeah, I was thinking of wet sanding it but I'm not sure how far I should go and should i just get to the point where I take off the paint thats bubbled? Essentially peeling all the bubbling part off?
Bought the mrev2 from FRSport.com, didnt come with any gaskets or bolts. I called them and they called motordyne and they said that you use oem bolts and gaskets. I installed my mrev2 but the bolts on the center of the upper plenum were not long enough so i went ahead and got 3 longer bolts. Im still having a vacuum leak so i bought new gaskets. Hopefully this fixes the issue but i was just wondering, did yours come with new bolts and gasket? Please let me know asap so I could contact Motordyne, thanks.
AnthonyJ350 were the longer boltf from when you bought the spacer or the plenum? Im having vacuum leaks after i installed it, even after i installed the new gaskets. I bought the spacer used so idk if the longer bolts came with the plenum or spacer.
Edrix G35 Came with longer bolts and the plastic washers. I show it in the video I thought. I would also contact motordyne. I believe they sell hardware kits.
arturo 900 You gain quite a bit of midrange power that you can feel. Peak hp won't change much. Make sure to do the ecu reset after ruclips.net/video/5tQm28K32SQ/видео.html
They're probably isn't a big difference, maybe price. I would just get the Motordyne version. Also look into the ISO thermal kit which makes a huge difference once the engine is hot.
@@AnthonyJ350 well isnt the iso thermal for weather condition?..i have the mrev2. ...just havent installed it yet cause i dont have the motirdyne 5/16 yet...thats why i was asking which one is better overall my vq friend?
@@socalecos550 The iso thermal for the lower plenum helps isolate heat transfer from the engine to the intake plenum. In theory helping keep the intake air cooler.
I'd still run the copper one so you don't have to mess around with the bypass valve. This is the kit I run with the MREV2 motordyneengineering.com/product/350z-516-copper-iso-thermal-plenum-spacer/
...that’s what this video is all about. Lol. MREV 2 and 5/16 spacer. The copper throttle body spacer is only meant if you live in a place where it gets cold for long periods of time. I.E Midwest, and northern states. Here in Texas, it gets cold in winter, but, not long enough to warrant the copper spacer. While your engine is apart... great time to paint your plenum, paint your throttle body if you want, spark plug change, add a catch can, do an oil change (highly recommend a Z1 magnetic drain plug), etc...
You can add those same parts to the non revup engine also. The mrev and plenum spacer helps the engine breath better. You can also do hr headers on the DE but you will need hr testpipes. HR headers are much better than the DE

Spacers go under the shock tower brace's mount.
Dear Sir/Madam, did you install a 5/16 plenum or a 5/8 plenum and did it interfere with closing the engine cover. Greetings Vladimir
5/16 spacer is the best for hood clearance
But the car will really benefit from a tune ruclips.net/video/eC1-hE3PBf0/видео.html
I get what you're saying with the V Plenum and I actually have a video testing that.
Travis Anderson Go ahead and install all of your bolt ons and do the ecu reset to get you by ruclips.net/video/5tQm28K32SQ/видео.html
Afterwards get a dyno tune with UPRev as soon as you can.
I ordered the ISO kit, can I skip the valve installation?
Just have it run through the throttle body normally? Ya you can do that.
@@AnthonyJ350 ok thxs. don't have the right tools rn to take off the throttle body from the plenum lol. did the throttle spacer help at all?
@@krashkrash119 Any check engine lights? All the vacuum lines are hooked back up?
Do revups really see a gain from the spacer?
If you pair it with an MREV2 it's a substantial difference
Hello, is it recommended to use new gaskets once cracking everything open or can you reuse the oem?
If you can get new gaskets it's a good idea.
I own a hr and I'm trigger. ..lol jk good videos 🖒✌
Did your car throw any codes following the install? Also, at the end when you start the engine and blip the throttle, you hear a faint chirp or "squeak" sound at each blip. Do you know what causes that? I ask because I hear it every time I depresses the throttle quickly each time after I shift.
Av8tor No but I did the ECU reset right after and got the UPRev Tune shortly after. ruclips.net/video/5tQm28K32SQ/видео.html
No I haven't heard the noise from the throttle.
@@AnthonyJ350 Thanks 👍. I will be swapping it in this weekend! Probably while watching this again 👌
@@DeOliveira20 Nice! Let us know how it goes. Don't forget to do the ecu reset.

would this work on a regular de motor, ive been having limp mode issues and i believe its the knocking sensor, while i was in there i thought i might as well replace this and get a little more even power, but didnt know if it would make my regular de motorrun even odder
Plenum spacer is definitely recommended for a regular DE. You'll want to do an ECU reset and take the car for a long drive on the highway after.
When you put back the upper plenum, are those rubber spacers needed if you don’t have a strut bar?
The ones that go inside the plenum?
The ones at 15:50
@@moisescristobal9740 yup you'll need those
Can you explain why the MREV 2 lower plenum adds 15-20 hp on the Rev up DE motor, but on the Non rev up DE it only adds 4-6 hp?
It's the intake runner length. The REVup did a different setup compared to the DE for top end power. The MREV2 is a modified DE lower plenum for better air flow. Also the REVup has variable valve timing on intake and exhaust to take advantage of this. The revup will also only make the bigger gains if matched with the plenum spacer and use the iso thermal gaskets to prevent heat soak to help maintain power when the engine is hot.
Throttle body spacer is safe and effective on increasing power?
Mixed reviews. I put them on, they just make me happy
I just installed today and did idle relearn and I’m having a tough idle and I’m confused on what’s going on
You might have a vacuum leak
I was watching some guys video and he was saying you might loose power putting this one on the revup what so you think? how's it holding up?
Maybe if you install it incorrectly, this thing has been awesome, the midrange power is so much better in the car now.
It's weire how he said "might lose power". So they're saying sometimes there's a gain and other times there's a loss?
I have an 06’ g35 coupe i was thinking about putting just a spacer on the upper plenum but im hearing that its better to just get an mrev 2 instead of just going with a spacer because its an 06’, any suggestions or info on whats best?
MREV2 with the 5/16 spacer and the iso thermal gasket set is the best way to go in my opinion.
What did you end up using to cap the throttle body’s metal lines for the hose?
Rubber end caps I found for some RCAs for aftermarket head units.

Alex Eyman Basic plenum totally benefits. But for the effort I would do the Iso Thermal upgrade.
What happens if you torque everything to 100 inch lb even the 6 middle will it crack the plenum?
You do run the risk. I haven't tried it. But there must be a reason why the manufacturer made a difference in torque specifications.
@@AnthonyJ350 Cause I heard a crunching sound on two bolts, but it didn't cause the bolt to loosen up or anything super tight and the only thing I can think of is the 6 plastic spacer in the middle might be bent maybe.

Do you think the 5/16 spacer or kintex racing V+ plenum is better?
I think they would perform very similar in terms of making power. I chose the 5/16th spacer for overall durability of the aluminium plus it looks stockish. To help combat heat soak the aluminium suffers from I use Motordyne's Iso Thermal kit ruclips.net/video/SXZq0NOgsbU/видео.html
Hey Anthony what's the torque wrench you are using?
It's an old Craftsman, back when Sears still used to be around
But now you have no gasket between the plenum spacer and the upper plenum. Wouldn't it have been better to re-use the old gasket by putting it on top of the spacer?
Nvm. I see now.
I was just following the instructions. Motordyne designed it.
+AnthonyJ350 guessing the throttle body coolant bypass wont work with the NWP 75mm Big bore throttle body?
Tim Rose I would just do the bypass with the valve. The copper one I used is for the original diameter.
AnthonyJ350 yeah thats what I was thinking, thanks!!
Woudl this benefit a non rev up?
They're suppose to a little bit according to Motordyne.
Hey I heard the mrev2 is basically the nonrevup lower plenum, it’s literally 100$ compare to 700$. Whats ur thoughts on this?
Also look into the ISO thermal gaskets for the plenum.

do you need to run a throttle body spacer or can you just put the MREV2 and the plenum spacer and just keep a stock throttle body?
Throttle body spacer is totally optional. You can do the Mrev2 and just the plenum spacer. I highly recommend the iso thermal gasket set though to reduce heat soak.
