Funny story: when i was little i grew up seeing Gwen's Marilyn Monrone-ish look everywhere and i had a vague idea who Marilyn was, but i was too young to grasp the concept that she was back in the 50s, so, seeing Gwen all the time on TV and not knowing who she is, in my mind i thought she is Marilyn Monroe, I've always associated her image with Marilyn, and when I grew up and could finally understand who Marilyn is and saw her photos, it felt as if Gwen was the original look and Monroe was a cosplay, sort of like those guys who impersonate Elvis and then people see them everywhere so much that then when they see the real Elvis it doesn't look like they imagined Elvis to be😅
The fact that she could stay in the band with the guy she's singing these songs about and was in a relationship with, shows a lot of class and understanding on both of their parts.
