No Doubt helped us move out of the super intense 90's grunge movement and into upbeat ska/rock/punk. That's what I think the ska and big band phase was all about...we wanted to be happy and dance again.
I'll never forget the first time I heard this song/saw this video. I was about 11 years old, down the Cape, watching MTV with my friend in her cottage. Life-changing. Have loved all things Gwen ever since. 🥰👑
@@czardeaner7713 If you can't, then don't. Your mistakes make you, you. Be better everyday and just live guy. Life is always moving forward, mind as well do the same.
This song came out when I was in high school. Back then I couldn’t read those Japanese subtitles in the video. I eventually studied abroad in Tokyo and worked in Osaka for 3 years. Now I’m back in America and can read all of it! My life came full circle!
It's crazy Coachella made me realize how many hits they have WOW, they are one of the most successful mainstream bands. This song in particular gives me goosebumps at the very end after the last fast part of the refrain, the way the tempo slows down ohmygoodness 3:36 😪🤗
90s pop as a whole took a lot more chances than todays pop music. The style, artistic talent and subject matter in songs hit way harder then. There's a ton of good new music out now too but not the pop. Pop is so plastic, synthetic, autotuned and safe. Its garbage. MTV used to play Marilyn Manson on TRL ffs
nah this is pop....pop music wasn't such an insult as it was now. Madonna was pop and she was all over the place. Pop was anything back then not rock, rap, jazz, country or gospel.
I got to see No Doubt perform live at Hastings (music store) in Spokane back in the 1990’s!! She signed my twin brother’s hand ❤️ Thank you heather (sister) for taking us!!
I remember seeing this video on MTV for the first time, I fell in love with this song and bought the album. No Doubt were so awesome and I loved the entire album❤
I just love how people look back on Gwen's history and are like 'what the fuck? Gwen done this sort of badass music? I always thought she was just another pop diva!". It makes me so happy because it's a nice shocker when you introduce "solo Gwen" fans to "No Doubt Gwen". Two completely different people.
Oh she rocked man. She was big in the ska scene back in the day. She just got over saturated and commercialized which equals poppy. In her day she was right there with all the big boys..
This was the first song and video that introduced me to No Doubt when I was 11 going on 12 years old. "Tragic Kingdom" is my favorite album of theirs and I am so excited that they are back!!!
Many bought this album for Don’t Speak, but this was one of the many absolutely phenomenal tracks on this album. A perfect example of “All killer, no filler”…still just as good today as it was back then.
I thinks it's little funny some people who just got into her discover her old stuff in the No Doubt days and are quite shocked. Compared to the people who grew up with her knowing that's how she started. Then those people got dissapointed when she went all pop.
I'm sixteen and I heard her pop music first even back then I really didn't like it then I heard No Doubts first album Tragic Kingdom and I was like why Gwen
I discovered her during her pop phase thing but I prefer her ska side and I prefer her band, in fact ever since I heard No Doubt I don't care for her solo songs.
Yeah if you compare her No Doubt days to her current pop career, there's no contest as to which is better. If I hear a kid listening to her recent stuff I tell them to go listen to Tragic Kingdom if they want to hear her sing well. It never fails to blow their minds when they pull up an old song on RUclips.
Back in 1996, a couple of girls at my college used the "sorry I'm not home right now..." part as their answering machine recording. It was cute how proud they were of themselves for thinking to use it.
i am so sick of Gwen not demanding her flowers for being the fucking legend she is, with ND and solo. it's WILD how many monster hits this woman has had and we don't treat her like fucking pop ROYALTY.
haha makes me feel old too. I remember seeing them in concert back in 1999 just 16 and they were my first concert. No Doubt is freakin amazing. Their old stuff will always be the best.
I can thank my older sister for being a huge No Doubt fan. I was just 6 maybe and my sis introduced me to many great bands that I would've missed out on. I didn't like it as much as when I got a bit older but damn this song never gets old. never will there be another No Doubt.
They might come back in the future! A lot of great bands in all types of music, pop, rock, r and b, country typically take breaks and make comebacks after a long dry spell. But either way like a lot of great female pop singers Gwen is a jack of all trades, pop, ska-rock, alternative-rock, her Hollaback song in 2005 was pop with hip-hop feelings! She can do it all. I consider her a mix of Queen Britney Spears and Avril Lavigne who is the all-time queen of pop-punk music which is very close to the ska-rock music that No Doubt perfected in the 90s!
David Salahshor You're absolutely right and awesome to hear I really hope they do! Haha that's a great way to describe her! I think that's why even after her style and music went into all these varieties I still continue to be a fan of Gwen 💜 and will always be a fan of No Doubt 😁
I feel like this was one of the first times it was communicated clearly that calling people on the phone is rude if it's not important and you should not expect to be able to command anyone's attention at any given time of day.
This entire album still holds its freaking weight. all day any day

No matter matter matter who calls
I gotta scream my phone calls
It's all your fault
It's all your fault
No matter who calls
No matter who calls
I'm walking into spiderwebs
So leave a message
And I'll call you back
I'm walking into spiderwebs

And I'll call you back
I'm walking into spiderwebs
Leave a message
And I'll call you back
I'm walking into spiderwebs
Leave a message
And I'll call you back
I'm walking into spiderwebs
Leave a message
And I'll call you back
I'm walking into spiderwebs
Leave a message
And I'll call you back
That's amazing that you memorized the lyrics to the entire song. You're awesome
It’s “screen my phone calls” not scream. Screening your phone calls is when you have to check the caller ID everytime before answering. Screaming is... well,, screaming
Ah, I take that back it’s just one line that’s a typo, my bad.
Holy shit!
@@meddle333 I copied this from google take it up with them
Everyone loved this album back in the day. Kids and adults a like. This album transcends.
Without a doubt this is one of their best songs ever.
Not without a doubt, you mean No Doubt! 😅
NO DOUBT
Absolutely
Truth: you're on a nostalgia binge just like me.
Just listened to Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana and Monster Magnet, so yeah.
I got here through the hey Google hum your song to search thing after hearing it at Walmart
Safe to say I'm not
Yup, sure am.
I'm always on a nostalgia binge.
Yup
No Doubt helped us move out of the super intense 90's grunge movement and into upbeat ska/rock/punk. That's what I think the ska and big band phase was all about...we wanted to be happy and dance again.
The beats/melodies were more upbeat, but the lyrics still angry as hell...love it.
Amazing ska times, best GS ever
I was in a ska band that opened for No Doubt in Montréal in 1997, and hung out with Gwen. She was a force of nature.
neat
Cap
She is glorious. Love Gwen Stefani
No way, me too
WWWOW
Still not over how pretty she looks with the gems under her eyes in this video.
Gwen will ALWAYS BE BETTER in No Doubt then by herself.
This era is her best look as well
Somehow, I DO remember watching this on MTV. Thanks for unearthing a memory, Amanda Leehan-Canto!
I'll never forget the first time I heard this song/saw this video. I was about 11 years old, down the Cape, watching MTV with my friend in her cottage. Life-changing. Have loved all things Gwen ever since. 🥰👑
love the cape!
No doubt my man
@@davemorrison312 I think she's just a girl, in the world 🌎

I was this douche for 8 months, I've changed. Wish I could apologize though.

This song came out when I was in high school. Back then I couldn’t read those Japanese subtitles in the video. I eventually studied abroad in Tokyo and worked in Osaka for 3 years. Now I’m back in America and can read all of it! My life came full circle!
What do the Japanese subtitles say?
@@GreenCanvasInteriorscape just trust him, in time he will tell us
Dude, similar. Always have loved No Doubt and now I can read that shit too!
@@GreenCanvasInteriorscape This is a fun party, I love cake, what is your name, what is this, etc. Nothing important lol

It's crazy Coachella made me realize how many hits they have WOW, they are one of the most successful mainstream bands.
This song in particular gives me goosebumps at the very end after the last fast part of the refrain, the way the tempo slows down ohmygoodness 3:36 😪🤗
its silly how everyone is like "i wish pop was still like this!!!!", this wasnt pop really. it was just a ska band that got mainstream fame lol
Ska-ish
@@saritatambayong4002 - ska adjacent
90s pop as a whole took a lot more chances than todays pop music. The style, artistic talent and subject matter in songs hit way harder then. There's a ton of good new music out now too but not the pop. Pop is so plastic, synthetic, autotuned and safe. Its garbage. MTV used to play Marilyn Manson on TRL ffs
nah this is pop....pop music wasn't such an insult as it was now. Madonna was pop and she was all over the place. Pop was anything back then not rock, rap, jazz, country or gospel.
They were ska as shit on previous albums. Not their first album btw
I was 10 when this was released. I still remember every word to it. They're truly an epic band.
I was around 6
My first CD...think I was around 9. Got it for Christmas w/ a CD player ❤
Thank you Guitar Hero for showing me this amazing band!
I remember when I heard this thefirst time. I had to buy the album. Even metal heads were blown away by how good that album was.
You don't hear nearly enough trumpets these days.
+Sean Sbragia You do if you're in a brass band.
I wish I were. Haven't played for 20 years.
you do if you listen to trap XD
*trombones
Rico The Pool Boy my bad
I used to play this on Guitar Hero World Tour, that game is my life.

Platinum DumDum still playing it
Platinum DumDum YESS
+Platinum DumDum same here, great game
For those of you over 30...wasnt this the coolest shit you ever heard in middle school!?❤
Hell yea.
I remember my older sister playing this as a kid and now as an adult I have a different appreciation for it
It was also on one of the 2K games
This and that one Offspring album, Bush and The Cranberries
And Garbage
I think this song made me fall in love with bass. It’s just so forward in the mix in the best way possible!
still so in love with her 20+ years later. still stunning, still amazing!
I just started listening to this album for the first time, and it is sooo good. Can't believe it took me so long to pay attention to No Doubt.
You’re late!
The entirety of Tragic Kingdom is absolutely amazing
In the spiderwebs late af. Get comfy
2:04 the song is so iconic that you can completely forget it also has one of the best bridges of all time
I got to see No Doubt perform live at Hastings (music store) in Spokane back in the 1990’s!! She signed my twin brother’s hand ❤️ Thank you heather (sister) for taking us!!
I remember seeing this video on MTV for the first time, I fell in love with this song and bought the album. No Doubt were so awesome and I loved the entire album❤
Same
Thumbs up if you think that 00s Gwen was great but 90s Gwen was the greatest ...Just love her rockstar aura
What's more, many of those people will be aware of "Don't Speak", but have no idea of the album it came from.
It's depressing, honestly. I liked No Doubt Gwen. Can't stand pop divas.
They're back together?!? Where have I been???
Who else really like Adrian Young's Energy on Drums.. he is really one of the most underrated Drummers of all time.
Tony is underrated on bass too
The music of the 90's was good. How I miss it so.
I honestly think 80s and 90s music is 1000 times better than today's music.
I graduated in 77. Was introduced to no doubt in 99. The band is great. But so is gwen, I like her any way she flowed. Band or solo. AWESOME!!!
Many bought this album for Don’t Speak, but this was one of the many absolutely phenomenal tracks on this album. A perfect example of “All killer, no filler”…still just as good today as it was back then.
I got the cassette for Don’t speak but found out there were So many dope tracks
@@kissoftruth5777 no lies told
@@kissoftruth5777 …and I love that you’d the cassette, it just dates the album to perfection.
I thinks it's little funny some people who just got into her discover her old stuff in the No Doubt days and are quite shocked. Compared to the people who grew up with her knowing that's how she started. Then those people got dissapointed when she went all pop.
agreed.
hmm i was a fan of hers since i was middle school so her pop music isn't all that bad, still good music
I think Nodout is a really unique band. This song is very energetic and empowering.
do you guys remember when we were all 7 years old and thought tragic kingdom would be the best album we ever heard. and then we were right!
Matt Brown literally thinking the same thing. Best album ever.
It was all downhill from there.
Dont Speak , may have 1 Billion views but this is still my favorite.
Back in 1996, a couple of girls at my college used the "sorry I'm not home right now..." part as their answering machine recording. It was cute how proud they were of themselves for thinking to use it.
Let's see how many people are still listening to this masterpiece in Feb 2021
A lot... but nothing beats actually being back in the 90s and hearing it playing on the car radio
yes but only because RUclips recommended it and I honestly forgot it existed
MY MOM SHOWED IT TO VE I LOVE IT
Lol stop following me. Wait. I must be following you! Muahaha! 😜
Heard it on the radio today actually
Me badly singing the chorus of this song... that used to be my out-going message on my answering machine. LoL

This was back when we didn't care about "Brands" and "Types" of Music, we just had Music. And it was Amazing! Cheers to this Classic!
This album is the soundtrack to my middle school days!
I bought my first two CDs in 1996 at age 8- Tragic Kingdom... and Spice Girls lol 😁 I still stand by those choices 21 years later!!
Julia Marie I got your back.
I still love The Spice Girls! Ever since I first heard them in 1998-1999
Can I hang with your friends?
Yep, I can totally relate lol.
When I first got a CD player, it was Tragic Kingdom and Jagged Little Pill.
i am so sick of Gwen not demanding her flowers for being the fucking legend she is, with ND and solo. it's WILD how many monster hits this woman has had and we don't treat her like fucking pop ROYALTY.
I remember this in HS. Watching this on MTV during TRL. Glory of the 90's.
haha makes me feel old too. I remember seeing them in concert back in 1999 just 16 and they were my first concert. No Doubt is freakin amazing. Their old stuff will always be the best.
Stephen Jeter back then when MTV was about the Music. now MTV is RTV because it doesn't have any Music anymore.
Good times... 90's music never goes out of style.
this song came out 3 years before TRL was even a show lol
It’s 4:16am and I’m currently listening to this MASTERPIECE
2:45 am crazy song this amazing
I can thank my older sister for being a huge No Doubt fan. I was just 6 maybe and my sis introduced me to many great bands that I would've missed out on. I didn't like it as much as when I got a bit older but damn this song never gets old. never will there be another No Doubt.
Probably the best thing ever from Orange County !
Love No Doubt. This came on the radio and I had to find the lyrics. Definitely heard it in the 90s/00s.
not that she's not still as awesome but i miss this Gwen and just the old No Doubt in general
Same. I miss the 90s No Doubt. It was just so damn good.
True ;)
This genre was just plain better than what exists now.
This song really hits home in the era of car warranty calls.
My old voice mail ….. hi you’ve reached Sherri… sorry I’m not home right now stepping on the spiderwebs leave a message and I’ll call you back🤣🤣🤣🤣

@Per Capita underneath it all.. I'm pretty good thank you
here after coachella bc no doubt stole the entire weekend!! so freaking good. tragic kingdom is my new obsession haha
I feel like this was one of the first times it was communicated clearly that calling people on the phone is rude if it's not important and you should not expect to be able to command anyone's attention at any given time of day.
Gwen, we love you and miss your stuff like this!!!
Crazy how it's impossible to truly get this song unless you remember dating before caller ID.
Uh all you to do is *67 to block your number just like back then.
We dont need no one telling me gotta take der text or calls
It was a pain Have To block all calls for some timing
Hell ya
Sooooo many women would use this song as their answering machine greeting. I miss those days...
