Back in the days when this song came out, and it was played in the local club on Saturday night party, there were 100 punk rock dudes on the dancefloor yelling "I'M JUSTA GIRL!" and dancing the pogo me included. Best times.
Now that is friggin awesome....wish I could've seen that.

Lol
can't be done this now days.. It would be gender appropriation for feminist, bullying for lgtbetc,
aberration for religious, fasism for the left, comunism for the right, and soya beef for homero simpson.

I was too young to understand this song in 1995. It's a masterpiece, especially the lyrics. "Oh, I'm just a girl, my apologies."
I was honestly just about to say the same thing.
I thought this song came out around 1998/1999
I also wanted to say the same!
Just the level of feminism I approve, the rest is bullshit.
100%. I'm just relistening now and get it now.
They were groundbreaking. I loved them from the start. And Gwen's facial expressions were always so brilliant and scathingly satirical.
Agreed x Patty
Gwen was awesome back in the day and it still is and people today who see her with Blake and don’t necessarily approve so to speak. Don’t realize what a talent and just how she big she was back in the day.
Yes🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤
The way she softens her voice when she says "here" is so metaphoric. Because it like a metaphor for how the world thinks women aren't allowed to get angry and mad, but wants us all to be sweet good girls. That are nice to everyone and only smile.
@Sanctus Paulus 1962 ok, that's your interpretation and this is mine. 👍🏻
Just heard this song for the first time as a 20 yr old male and it clicks with me I understand what shes saying but what is the solution? What can I do for the women in my life to make them feel less (justifiably) miserable?

😢❤️
the cinematography, lighting, close ups, and angles.. pure early 2000s/late 90s visual style. brings back hard hard nostalgia and memories
overexposure / big contrast was such a hot thing back then it's no wonder I always got in trouble for it in my photography class, I just thought that was the best way to go about things! it's fun! that whole POP feeling aesthetic throughout everything felt so energetic, bright & modern
Yeah I very much agree!
Mid-1990's
I almost had a heart attack from sheer joy when NB broke out into this song at Coachella this weekend, I was screaming the lyrics so loud and jumping up and down that I wanted to cry. What an AH-MAZING set they pulled off, the entire group really giving 100% and really leaving it all out there on the stage!
Honestly, I didn't know I could still feel this kind of exhilaration in my 50s. The No Doubt version of Gwen Stefani channels the spirit animal in me to come roaring forth.
Honestly, they all performed so well and really gave it their all, but nothing blew me away more than Stefani's gorgeous and powerful vocals. If you've been to Coachella before, you know that dust and wind can be fierce and Coachella Cough is definitely a thing. I don't know how she pulled this off. She must have flow in last minute because she sure was NOT breathing all the find dust from the polo grounds, that's for sure. Sparkling vocal performance!
See, I might be old but I know what I like. Glad you enjoyed it.

Don't you think I know exactly where I stand?
This world is forcing me to hold your hand
'Cause I'm just a girl, oh, little old me
Well, don't let me out of your sight
Oh, I'm just a girl, all pretty and petite
So don't let me have any rights
Oh, I've had it up to here
The moment that I step outside
So many reasons for me to run and hide
I can't do the little things I hold so dear
'Cause it's all those little things that I fear
'Cause I'm just a girl, I'd rather not be
'Cause they won't let me drive late at night
Oh, I'm just a girl, guess I'm some kind of freak
'Cause they all sit and stare with their eyes
Oh, I'm just a girl, take a good look at me
Just your typical prototype
Oh, I've had it up to here
Oh, am I making myself clear?
I'm just a girl
I'm just a girl in the world
That's all that you'll let me be
Oh, I'm just a girl, living in captivity
Your rule of thumb makes me worrisome
Oh, I'm just a girl, what's my destiny?
What I've succumbed to is making me numb
Oh, I'm just a girl, my apologies
What I've become is so burdensome
Oh, I'm just a girl, lucky me

Not really , these days ''men'' are failling over themselves to prove how progressive they are , so 'you' as a woman can't really be sure if you got a position on merit.
Back in the 90s if a woman had what was seen as a mans role in life , you knew it was because she had mad skills that paid the bills*. That was my experience with the first few bosses I had ( women who were shit-hot at their jobs )

There's definitely two distinct times you hear this song. Once when you first as a kid where it just rocks and the first time as an adult when you realise how sad the lyrics are because they are about the oppression of women. This song is straight fire, both musically are lyrically.
Edit: Please help I'm being swarmed by Karens and Kyles for speaking truth to power.
I wouldn't say "opression" of women but at the time of the making of this song in 1995 there was definitely much more casual disrespect of women in daily life than in 2022.

Great real life lyrics.
Relatable to anyone who betrays oneself, is conditioned by those around.

You're the only one in the comment section that puts your finger on the key phrases in the lyrics. Gwen has turned herself into a fraud, and the song shows how she feels about it.
Gwen has painted a prettier and more sexually attractive face on top of her real face, using a secret female seduction technique called "makeup". She is taking full advantage of the power of sexual manipulation that is available to her as a girl, and has in fact become a big star for it, with the entire world fawning over her and showering her with attention. The song is about how she hates what she has become (a big fat lie!), and she tells us straight up she has had it up to her fake eyebrows.
This is probably the most feminist song in existence, since it perfectly sums up the feminist desire to have the cookie and eat it too. Gwen wants to be taken seriously as a man is taken seriously, but she ALSO wants flutter her fake eyelashes and harvest money and attention from all the simps. She chooses to be "just a girl" to reap all the rewards that come from it, then she turns around and blames the world (but at least she seems to have self awareness about her own behavior).
This is apparently super relatable to all the women commenting here, so I'm assuming they're all doing the same thing (abusing the sexual power that comes with being a girl, then playing victim when being treated as a sex object), albeit not all women do this as successfully as Gwen. She is a very gifted woman after all.
Gwen Stefani was just a teenager when No Doubt got rolling. In 1992 they signed a record deal and released an album with Interscope Records but due to poor album sales, the label cancelled plans for additional albums. Undeterred, the band independently released a second album which impressed Interscope Records enough that they suffered FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out). The label resigned the band to release their 3rd album in 1995 which became "Tragic Kingdom".
"Just A Girl" was the song that broke the band into mass consciousness and its the first song that Gwen solely wrote the lyrics for. It's sarcastic tone and a nod towards an independent attitude for women has been seen as a statement for feminism but in reality, Stefani simply wrote the song in reference to a time when she got in trouble with her parents for sneaking out of the house.
The video featuring a cute and vibrant Gwen, went into heavy rotation on MTV after the single was released... and the rest, as they say, is history.

Thanks for sharing. And she went to practice with her band until late at night and her brother wasn't with her so she drove back home alone late at night form LA to Fullerton. And her parents were mad at her and that's when she noticed that it was only because she was a female.
Is this Wikipedia now?
I’m not trying to be an asshole. But a lot of this information isn’t true. Gwen And Tom wrote Just a Girl, the only songs Gwens wrote on her own for ND are Simple kind of life and Suspension without Suspense. The second album The Beacon street collection was a fuck you to interscope. They where never dropped from interscope. Turned over to TRAUMA in 95 then that subdivision of interscope closed then Just a girl was off the 3rd album Tragic Kingdom. I could keep going and going
Can be a statement for feminism towards her parents too ...
Im a farmersdaughter and in opinion of my mother and grandparents im not capable to have a farm.
I would need a husband for it ...
Parents are sometimes the ones who treat you wrong
Such a banger
Top ten band of the 90s and among the Top 20 female rock singers of all Time.
finally someone who writes it
This song makes me sing "I'm just a girl"... I'm a 43 year old male.

Geiler 90ger Jahre Song, habe ich als Jugendlicher beim Fortgehen schon gerne gehört. In den alten überfüllten Gassen zwischen den Lokalen!
Masterpiece.
How the fuck did 1,000 people have the NERVE to dislike this video?????????? How??????????
truthfully i dont fucking know
+Barbara Black two thousand...
They must be jealous or are sexist bastards lol This song is really good, and the theme too.
+Barbara Black They are being hunted down ala Jay & Silent Bob style and beaten mercilessly :) Some folks just have no taste.
+llcruize fuck that easter bunny!
+Barbara Black because people go to music they don't like and dislike it.. opinions are allowed. also, they do it to piss you off..
Wow. How it still holds up to this day.
A lot of music from that era does... They were focused on timeless, not timely
Calm down mate she's talking about real girls.

I danced to this two times today and it made me forget the overthinking, bad thoughts, just everything bad, only happiness was in me and i had so much fun!

Gwen is the fucking boss. I always felt like this described the way my parents treated me as a young woman. I’m 50 now, and it still reminds me of the bias I felt when compared to my twin brother.
I teach sociology and always rock my class with this one when we look at prejudice and discrimination. I'm partial to belting it out with Gwen too, even though I'm a 43 yr old male.
If it makes you feel any better, I was a Taiwanese male that grew up in the US and even I felt some of this. No doubt (no pun intended), my sister got it worse but still. Prejudice is prejudice.
A person who appropriates culture isn't a boss. They're dumb.
@@nandini8814 What?
@@missghosty wdym what. Gwen has been appropriating Indian culture since years.
This album “Tragic Kingdom” is to me one of the all time greatest albums, ever. Hit after hit after hit and thus becoming/being iconic. I bought the album when it came out in 95’, when I was 25 & because of this song in particular, and was totally blown away, from the beginning till the end. I didn’t know much about “No doubt” previously, as they weren’t known really well here in Australia, so I didn’t have their earlier albums, but this album cemented it for me. I’m now 50 ( f*ck, I’m getting old!) I was and always will be a HUGE fan of No Doubt. Gwen and the band are iconic.
❤️❤️❤️❤️ always
Turning 40 and from Finland 🇫🇮 but otherwise pretty much the same 💪🏽
I wish I was born in that generation tbh...
one of the greatest albums ever? bold statement but each to their own.
I love this song! It's the best! Good job! ❤

LOVE IT!!!!
Lyrics
Take this pink ribbon off my eyes
I'm exposed
And it's no big surprise
Don't you think I know
Exactly where I stand
This world is forcing me
To hold your hand
'Cause I'm just a girl, little ol' me
Well don't let me out of your sight
Oh, I'm just a girl, all pretty and petite
So don't let me have any rights
Oh, I've had it up to here!
The moment that I step outside
So many reasons
For me to run and hide
I can't do the little things
I hold so dear
'Cause it's all those little things
That I fear
'Cause I'm just a girl
I'd rather not be
'Cause they won't let me drive
Late at night
Oh I'm just a girl
Guess I'm some kind of freak
'Cause they all sit and stare
With their eyes
Oh I'm just a girl
Take a good look at me
Just your typical prototype
Oh, I've had it up to here!
Oh, am I making myself clear?
I'm just a girl
I'm just a girl in the world
That's all that you'll let me be!
Oh I'm just a girl, living in captivity
Your rule of thumb
Make me worry some
Oh I'm just a girl, what's my destiny?
What I've succumbed to
Is making me numb
Oh I'm just a girl, my apologies
What I've become is so burdensome
Oh I'm just a girl, lucky me
Twiddle-dum there's no comparison
Oh, I've had it up to!
Oh, I've had it up to!!
Oh, I've had it up to here

*_No Doubt - Just A Girl_*
This is *_STILL_* my ultimate Independence song!
Gwen rocks it and will always be immortal in my head and heart.
#Independence #JustAGirl
Listened to it last week, thought just the same
Oh that is too awesome, Darren Moloney!
I love it! =D
Coool, I did'nt know her. Merci Kristin Drysdale ;)
This is such a cool and true song, Kristin Drysdale. A bit father back in musical history (probably a lil' bit before your time, lol) my "theme song" has been & always will be "Hold Your Head Up" by Argent. (Quick play version to follow, although the long play is my favorite.) You GO, "girl!" :) xo

I loved that Kim Bultman (been enjoying it in my mix all weekend). #Muahhh ♥
Is she getting younger? I am scared she will just eventually disappear
She's got the Benjamin Button's disease. Her skin is completely flawless and she's forty six! She has really taken care of herself!
Elias Mertens she probably uses fillers.
yes she is getting younger oh my
its called plastic surgery....this best $$$$$$$$$ can buy...and she also sucks the stem cells out of pure Aryan baby spinal cords
***** I would believe it was plastic surgery but her facial features don't look any different.
Still playing on 104.5 great song and video 💎
Que buena banda, Dios mío. ¡Cómo suena!
I wrote her a fan mail when tragic kingdom came out. Think I was in 6 or 7th grade back then. Saying that if she got bored after the tour she could stop over at my parents house and we could ride ATV's together.....still haven't got a answer on that LOL! Whole band was great with a great front woman.
One day Mike. One day.

Even as a dude I used to rock the shit outta this song, not to mention that I had such a crush on Gwen Stefanie and I still do! Oh the 90's the best time of music along the 80's!
omg yes !
Luke RoyalDeftonicBoy 90s music blow the shit out of overplayed 80s music
Luke RoyalDeftonicBoy I rocked the shit out of this song too! I’m a dude. The whole album was fire. Pretty nostalgic listening to this again. And yes bro she was super hot. I had a huge crush on her. I was 8th or 9th grade when this album came out in 95.
... and you guessed it, I'm a dude too!!! Back in the day, I was definitely crushin on this little girl HARD. The music was not what I normally listened to but after a few times, it grew on me. Fact, these guys pretty much turned me on to a bunch of other stuff I probably wouldn't have given a second thought.
