You said it best, "these quests are all great for different reasons"... because the characters are all great for different reasons! The quests are all structured in unique ways that get the most out of the characters as they can. I can't wait to see how Ganyu's went for you! :)
This is by far my fav Quest. It talk about a God, but not a badass or a strong one, but a gentle and who truly loved her people, turns out this is her strong trait in the end, better than anyone. I bet all the Gods do something horrifying during the war (even Venti) but she was the one who stay in her ground and choose gentleness. In the end, she was the strongest one. Such a tragic character with no face 💔
But it is just as what Zhongli said, a god who chooses to concess won't be able to protect his/her people. True gentleness also requires necessory strengthness to keep itself intact from any offender. There is an old saying in chinese, one should never intend to do harm to others, but should always guard against the harm others might do to him.
I know that many people deslike Wanyan but I feel pity towards her ignorance and skewed view, after all, the previous generations are th3 ones who twisted history about Havria's death.
And if you noticed how Sumeru's Academia endorsing the pursuit of false knowledge from their scholars we've met and their research topic, their previous generation might have a hand on the skewed history on Sal Terrae & Havria too..
The place name of Guyun Stoneforest(孤云阁) comes from the idiom"孤耸入云" ,"solitary towering into the cloud", which means that stones stand abruptly on the sea. While the Chi of Gu Yun (古云有螭)has a different meaning in Chinese. It means that there is a monster called chi in ancient legends. The reason why the pronunciation is "Guyun" is just a coincidence
Love to see this "salt and betrayal" quest. I played this first before Dain's quest and it still made me suspicious of the archons because it is kinda true when we say *the winners of the war are the heroes of history.* I love Venti the most but I do save some reservations against everyone when it comes to the whole truth of Teyvat.
To be honest, I had a theory since the first time I met Dain. This theory of mine has essentially become concrete and essentially canon for me with each update building up to it. The theory of mine connects Genshin and Honkai Impact together. It establishes why Ei behaved in such a manner with the Visiom Hunt and also the issue of wisdom’s folly in Sumeru. Frankly, speaking Celestia is indeed hiding something. We already know one piece of the puzzle. In Enkanomiya, it has been established that anyone that has knowledge of the “original era”, more specifically the age spoken of in the book “Before Sun and Moon” are not allowed to live. Now why does Celestia want to hide this knowledge. Truth to be told, I think Celestia is trying to ensure that their old enemy never re-emerges again. The enemy that destroyed the original era and one that Celestia had to defeat, is still there and is stirring. Therefore, any knowledge about this enemy is kept lost. What is this enemy? This is the connection to Honkai Impact. I’ll be blunt. Once you analyze the lore, Genshin’s story is very very dark. When I established my theory and saw the lines connect, I started getting a bit terrified.
Dainsleif may know a lot of things, but he doesn't know everything. As far I am concerned, everything he says I take with a grant of salt. He only speaks and knows from Khaneri'ah's view, but what about the other side? Ambigous.
However it also goes vise verse in the real world that the evil ones who failed in a war may not recocile to their failure and they would very much intend to justify their wrongdoings by twisting histories and concealing facts. but in terms of Khaenri'ah, I agree that they are victims in the ancient war, but I also believe that there must be a way more complicated reason in it than that because the archons are evil.
I know this comment probably won't get much attention, but I'm hoping someone will see this nonetheless. Sal Terrae literally translates to "salt of the earth". At 18:15, Arnold tries to make the name connection but does it in the wrong way 😅(seriously? SalT errae?)

the thing with the archon war was that so many things were happening at the same time and it'd be so cool to see what the world looked like at that time.
Something I just realized revisiting these quests with your videos, is that both Venti's and Zhongli's quests involved humans defeating a god. Monstadter's overthrowing a tyrant god and salt terrae people murdering a benevolent god. Now I am thinking perhaps the archon war back then may not only involve gods but humans as well. The calamity in Kaenriah is a whole fight involving humans and the seven and celestia too.

@Dank Memegumin Except not really. Her followers weren't salty. They didn't kill her out of hatred or spite. They killed her because they didn't want her to suffer any more on their behalf. As Morax said, the people realized that she never had the power to protect them during actual wartime and, thus, also lacked the power to protect herself and because of this fact, she was suffering and her people knew it. What they did, ostensibly, was equivalent to putting down a suffering pet. If anything, the murder of Havria was executed, not out of saltiness, but out of love and mercy. Basically, in the peoples' eyes, this was a mercy killing. The inference that Morax made by recounting what the survivors ended up doing is that Havria's people planned to put Havria out of her misery and suffering and release themselves from the necessity to remain at her side as her followers so they could migrate to Liyue Harbor and live under a God that actually HAD the power to protect them: Morax. The true tragedy here is that Havria's people failed to truly understand Havria herself. Morax said some of the people came back to Sal Terrae after the fact and tried to appease the God their brethren had murdered because they were afraid that her anger would target them from beyond the grave, but that they needn't have done so because Havria would never have been able to hate her people to point of haunting them and/or seeking vengeance. The inference within that statement from Morax, in my opinion, is that the people of Havria needn't have murdered her in the first place. I get the feeling that one big reason they murdered her is because they were afraid that if they just up and left, abandoning her completely, she would be pissed at them and curse them for all eternity. Thus, they decided to kill her to free them up to be able to worship another, stronger God. So Havria's Murders a two-fer. It ended Havria's suffering, preventing her from being at the mercy of any other God that would inevitably show up on her doorstep and, at the same time, freed her people, in their mind, to do what was necessary to protect themselves and ensure the future of their civilization. But, as I said, Morax alluded to the fact that they, probably, didn't actually need to do that. Why? Because, as Morax said, there was no possible way that Havria would ever have any hatred in her heart for the people she cared so deeply about. Or, in layman's terms, she was way too nice and too good a person to hate you for leaving her when you realized she couldn't protect you. Basically, Morax was saying they could have just up and left and she wouldn't have cared. She would have been sad, sure. But she, probably, would have also been content knowing that Morax was watching over what was left of her people. And as far as he being at the mercy of the other Gods, I get the feeling that if Havria had found herself without a flock to protect, she would have done into deep hiding until The Archon War was over. Again, as Morax said, Havria would rather flee than fight. And the only reason she was even in Sal Terrae was to attempt to protect her people. I mean, Hell, it seems to me that Morax had a lot of respect for Havria and her gentleness and it's entirely possible that if her people had broached the subject of seeking aid from Morax, not only would she have allowed them to, but she might have joined them. I mean, if you know you're the weakest God on the planet and there's a War of The Gods raging across the planet, what safer haven could you find than at the side of the most powerful God on the planet?
@@ForeverDegenerate Then blamed him for her death like really? You butcher your deity go hide under a new one then generations later say ohh we'll be vilified by our youth let's blame the archon that actually protected us
@@notavailable8201 Well we don't know WHY they passed that version of their history on to their descendants. And we may never know since the ones who lived the truth and chose to pass this version of events on to their descendants are long dead. I'm hoping Mihoyo does a Part 2 to the God of Salt Story and we find that out because, you're right, it doesn't make sense. But it is fact. Now it's entirely possible that the people from Sal Terrae who ended up settling in Liyue Harbor DIDN'T know the truth of what happened and they just assumed, based what they knew, that Morax killed her. Logically speaking, if they didn't get caught in the Salt Blast from Havria's death, that means they were outside of the Sal Terrae Settlement because we see the remnants of that blast the moment we step inside the Settlement. So it would stand to reason that they had no idea what transpired inside and the story that's been passed down are the events as they would come to know them. On the flipside, it also stands to reason that there was, at least, one person in this group the knew exactly what they're brethren were planning and when the report came out that Havria had been murdered, played dumb and hid the truth out of fear and shame. One thing we DO know is that Morax knew the intimate details of what happened in Sal Terrae. That means, we know he, personally, went down there to investigate Havria's Death. It's also heavily inferred that Morax was the one who placed the Seal on Sal Terrae, presumably after he completed his investigation and left. So it's entirely possible, that upon his return, the remnants of Havria's people blamed Morax for Havria's Death. But this quest and Morax's own words and behavior also presents us with a third theory. That is that Morax, himself, propagated the lie. It's entirely possible that, either because the Elders of Sal Terrae asked him to keep the truth from their descendants or because he felt it best to be the "fall guy" and allow the descendants of Sal Terrae to continue to believe in the power of Havria and the honor of their people rather than face the truth of her weakness and the shame of their ancestors. In fact, based on what we know about Morax, it would not surprise me if the Elders of Sal Terrae entered into a Contract with Morax and, thus, he was forced to propagate a lie for all these years. But like I said above, if we don't get a Part 2 to this Story Arc, we may never know the reason why. I, for one, would love answers. :)
@@ForeverDegenerate heh so many possibilities that's what you have to give Hoyoverse credit when it's due they leave you with many questions and add the answer in a random place or places you have to find it yourself at times. Luckily i don't mind heavy reading unless I'm too bone tired to focus. The possibility of Morax willingly taking on the blame does fit his whole personality as one who can endure such ire and my bad joke i thought of regarding his shield in the matter aside of the salt gods followers anger. It seems way too many coincidences happened regarding false telling of history in Teyvat. Almost as if someone may have covered it up intentionally was it to hide possibly the biggest dark secret in their world? Or merely a way to protect future generations to avoid facing the wrath of Celestia if they are involved in said events. Or possibly both are correct. The fact Sumeru is trying to find the truth may very well awaken something that was best left hidden at least to regular people except the Traveler and Paimon of coarse
Arnold...you’re simply incredible man. You helped me through my dogs passing and helped me move on with your infectious positivity. I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I’ve learned of you and followed you through RWBY. Once more thank you and know, that I’ve watched and liked most vids of yours.
Damn! The ending of this hurts after what happened at the end of the Sumeru Archon Quest, especially with what Zhongli said about us (The Traveler) being the backup of the history of Teyvat.
In older versions of the game, the "Chi of Yore" quest was called 'Chi of Guyun" in the English text version. Arnold and others thought that meant it tied to the Guyun Stone Forest in some way, but it never was meant to. That's why they changed the quest name.
I loved this quest and your reaction to it. I still remember that sense of deep foreboding when seeing those statues of salt for the first time. I think this might be my favourite character quest. Looking forward to seeing what your reaction was to Childe's quest! That one had one of my favourite scenes near the end 😁
If not my favorite, then definitely my top 3. I just love everytime they talk about the past & gods outside of seven. This quest was emotional, tragic and beautiful as well. Plus Zhonglis voice telling a story just made things even more interesting ❤
Till now I can say zhongli is my favourite character for I started plying genshin because of him This quest and his lore will forever live on in my memories
I came back to rewatch the quest, and this is a very good writing indeed. During this time we don't know about Irminsul yet, so him saying how "history can be changed and rewritten" hits different.
killing even a weak god can wreack such havoc, and killing strong gods can leave permanent remnants that plague those lands, u ll see it in inazuma. Thats why zhongli never killed osial or other gods. He sealed a lot of them beneath the sea using his spears. Because killing so many gods would have contaminated liyue(specially a god as massive as osial)
God remembering all this quests is so great to watch again especially when you really are into the story, I barely remember it so it's a nice to watch this again
hahahahh it happens all the time when i’m doing the pressure plates too. i still can’t measure the range of summoning zhongli’s pillar. amazing quest this was
Hey man, I am glad you liked this quest! I've met some people who are not fond of so much reading and stuff (especially like Zhongli's 2nd quest I guess....) so I'm happy to see some lore-nerd like me Zhongli, Childe and probably Itto's are my favourite, but I'm mostly looking forward to seeing your reaction to my favourite character in the game, Childe!~

How easy would it have been to solve their problem if the traveller just agreed to take one treasure, took the other half of the sword and gave it to her 😂 😂
hot take here. that fatui guy might be an a-hole and his motives might be for greed but I think he's still in the right, at least legally. he did pay whangsheng funeral parlor to hire zhongli for his completely legal archeological survey/dig with official documentation from the liyue ministry of civil affairs while the salt woman just tagged along so she shouldn't have gotten any cut on the findings at all. if the fatui guy made any mistakes, it was: 1.) allowing the salt woman to continue tagging along when he didn't even officially hire her. she has proven useless for the most part unlike what zhongli suggested to him prior and she has kept bickering with him along the way, making her a hindrance to their work. 2.) begrudgingly but still agreeing to zhongli's proposal to split the findings with salt woman as well as not reminding zhongli that he himself is still under contract to work for fatui guy before entering another contract. he was only really against it after he got the short end of the stick which was already too late. zhongli would be a hypocrite to have others "suffer the wrath of the rock" for not sticking to/breaking their contract if he himself can't stick to his own contract by threatening to cut his services short if fatui guy wouldn't accept his proposal while still working for him. 3.) fatui guy is a fatui agent as we've learned when he fought him. he can turn invisible and is a highly trained snezhnayan "diplomat". even if he let zhongli leave, fatui guy would've still been able to deal with or at least escape from the threats below. although he wouldn't know how significant these treasures are and so unable to gauge their monetary value so there's that. 4.) fighting zhongli

Rewatching Zhongli story quest makes me realized that the consequences of killing a god, even weak one is much more dire than we thought. And this brings back to the Fontaine archon quest. I think the flood happended because Focalor died that cause the flood rather than Celestia or anything else. Just a theory of mine though
Zhongli's content in the game is always phenomenal. After this quest I couldn't help but feel saddened that we know quite a bit about a minor god of not much importance yet everyone in Liyue has forgotten about Guizhong, who helped shape Zhongli's personality and was one of the reasons why Liyue is like it is right now. I wish we got at least a few lines about her somewhere.
Haha I dunno but when everytime a character do a "thinking pose" in the middle of a conversation, it gives me a feeling that: 1. They are not confident with what they will say 2. They will do some blah blah blah first before telling you what you really need to know
What a great way to start my breakfast and day! I remember also being so pumped about this story quest when it first released in 1.2. Such a blast honestly. As always, thank you for bringing us these videos!
‘Guyun’ as in ‘Guyun stone forest‘ means ‘lone clouds‘ which metaphorize the state of the stone forest that the stones are like standing alone in open sea, while ‘Gu Yun’ as in ‘Chi of Gu Yun‘ is a short phrase in Chinese which means ‘old saying‘ or ‘old story‘, hence ‘Chi of Gu Yun‘ means ‘There is an old story about Chi’. They are pronounced in different tones and written in different Chinese characters, it‘s kinda confusing for non-Chinese players sometimes indeed
I liked this quest we kind of already knew how much Zhongli knew cause he's been around for so long. But I think this quest made it a lil more clear about how all these thousands of years of living have made an impact on him. Be that big or small especially making decisions as the god of contracts and leading to him being an archon.
To be fair, even back during V1.5, MHY did very little to humanize the Fatui after the events of the Mondstadt and Liyue archon quests, so that stigma that "all Fatui are evil" was still very prevalent until Inazuma and characters like Lydouchka, Katarina, Nikolai, and Anton came to be.
Hahah, the Albedo/Fischl/Zhongli/Bennett party you've got in there is the exact same one I use most of the time in my alt account in that exact same order. Great minds~... I really liked this quest too, it's cool to get that history.
Seeing an Agent without his mask is so weird and human. Wait, so he threw stone Spears the size of mountains then how big was Rex Lapis? I can imagine Rex Lapis fought Azdaha in his dragon form instead of his god form.
Well, tbh I don't think the people of Khaenri'ah are actually innocent, at least not ALL innocent, for all the war machine they built and the foul nature of their creations using alchemy.
After Zhongli's line of saving history in memories of travellers and time has something to do with the God of time itself?? Like only after travellers interference the lives of archons changed. More like they waited for such moment to arrive. This all hints towards something big?
39:30 Zhongli dishing out EMOTIONAL DAMAGE before EMOTIONAL DAMAGE was a meme.

So sorry for your loss..🙏
I'm extremely sorry for your loss dude...
@@LeoLeo-hi2gg thank you. I appreciate your sentiment my friend.
Im sorry for your loss and Im glad that you were able to move on
@@acedetective9542 Thanks I appreciate it.
Damn! The ending of this hurts after what happened at the end of the Sumeru Archon Quest, especially with what Zhongli said about us (The Traveler) being the backup of the history of Teyvat.
13:55 Guyun means isolated(or lonely) cloud.
In older versions of the game, the "Chi of Yore" quest was called 'Chi of Guyun" in the English text version. Arnold and others thought that meant it tied to the Guyun Stone Forest in some way, but it never was meant to. That's why they changed the quest name.
For someone funds of lore this maybe the most suitable archon to accompany-he's literally the god of history in Teyvat!
Till now I can say zhongli is my favourite character for I started plying genshin because of him
This quest and his lore will forever live on in my memories
Zhongli dialogs hits diferent after Sumeru Archon Quest
Dang, what Zhongli says in the end of this quest hits different after what we learned in the recent Sumeru quests...
That's why the sea is salty...🗿
9:54 Best assassin move
God remembering all this quests is so great to watch again especially when you really are into the story, I barely remember it so it's a nice to watch this again
hahahahh it happens all the time when i’m doing the pressure plates too. i still can’t measure the range of summoning zhongli’s pillar.
amazing quest this was
Hey man, I am glad you liked this quest! I've met some people who are not fond of so much reading and stuff (especially like Zhongli's 2nd quest I guess....) so I'm happy to see some lore-nerd like me
Zhongli, Childe and probably Itto's are my favourite, but I'm mostly looking forward to seeing your reaction to my favourite character in the game, Childe!~
Someday really close to the end of the game, Arnold will fall in another puddle without stamina
I CAN'T wait for another character story quest letsplay my dude!!
Every ancient god in Genshin is very chill and loves their people
But they're all fucking dead
@@ThePontiffofPonWolf yup,he technically did love his people, but he didn't understand emotions that well so he locked everyone up to be safe from the snowstorms.
Watching you play story quests always become a highlight of my day! I feel like I'm experiencing the game for the first time all over again😩
How easy would it have been to solve their problem if the traveller just agreed to take one treasure, took the other half of the sword and gave it to her 😂 😂
hot take here.
that fatui guy might be an a-hole and his motives might be for greed but I think he's still in the right, at least legally. he did pay whangsheng funeral parlor to hire zhongli for his completely legal archeological survey/dig with official documentation from the liyue ministry of civil affairs while the salt woman just tagged along so she shouldn't have gotten any cut on the findings at all.
if the fatui guy made any mistakes, it was:
1.) allowing the salt woman to continue tagging along when he didn't even officially hire her. she has proven useless for the most part unlike what zhongli suggested to him prior and she has kept bickering with him along the way, making her a hindrance to their work.
Venti also states himself as a hypocrite as well what's true freedom if demanded by a god?
THANK YOU!
That "look at this hand, look at this hand... Then bop" gets me everytime

oh wow i was actually just looking for this tysm
enjoyed this video so much !! (as it is with all of arnold's content)
1:55 Yeah I hear that happens alot.
4:49 They sound like Weiss' dad.
Where there's water, there someone about to die
Emotional Damage - Suffer the Wrath of the ROCK😂😂
I love the way how he mocks the Mr. Know-it-all researcher! 🤣
*Youre videos are really great and i watch every video released when i have the time, im still a student and i look forward watching you play the game until all the 7 regions/archons has been released, i loved how you appreciate lore, characters and pretty much the game itself, keep going on what you do,stay well and always take care of one self, all the best Arnold!*
24:53 Havria sends her regards. 🤣
No one talking about the hilichurl yeeted to the air 😂
The TOS fine print must be like e/rotica to Zhongli lol
47:47 it feels to me like zhongli isn't talking to the "traveler" as in the character but the "traveler" as in us the players
The amount of awkward interactions the archons must have…
Zhongli's content in the game is always phenomenal.
Can't wait for next playthroughs 🤩
Haha I dunno but when everytime a character do a "thinking pose" in the middle of a conversation, it gives me a feeling that:
1. They are not confident with what they will say
2. They will do some blah blah blah first before telling you what you really need to know
Oh finally this is the one story quest I have been wanting to see from you
Finally....My favorite story quest.....
Arnold. Love your video so much❤️
What a great way to start my breakfast and day! I remember also being so pumped about this story quest when it first released in 1.2. Such a blast honestly. As always, thank you for bringing us these videos!
This is great! Can't wait for ACT 2
This and Venti's were my favourite character quest of them all. So much lore and world building :D

OMEGA OOOOOOFFFFF
As a chemist, pouring an endless amount of salt in the sea will kill all water life ! poor fishes
Daily dose of Arnold drowning.
Zhongli story quests are just different
some good stuff as always, thanks for the video
Thanks for watching!
I liked this quest we kind of already knew how much Zhongli knew cause he's been around for so long. But I think this quest made it a lil more clear about how all these thousands of years of living have made an impact on him. Be that big or small especially making decisions as the god of contracts and leading to him being an archon.
24:54
It's happening again
Careful what you wish for Klimet. XD
I wish we could've met Havria in the quest cut scenes.
Her story is bittersweet.
Can't wait for Childe's story quest, it's my favourite! >w
Zhongli's quest is one of the best yet. Pretty obvious that he's one of mhy's favorite LOL
Looking forward for your ranking of the quests.
TBH I'm looking at your highlight thinking in which highlight will your beard grow back out😂😂😂
Watching this back and realised Wanyan’s voice is so familiar… sounds a little like Yanfei.
I’ve been waiting for this
Man I love Zhongli
34:20 KEKW
Been waiting for this 🐥
funny you mention all the fatui being villains in the chasm patch
To be fair, even back during V1.5, MHY did very little to humanize the Fatui after the events of the Mondstadt and Liyue archon quests, so that stigma that "all Fatui are evil" was still very prevalent until Inazuma and characters like Lydouchka, Katarina, Nikolai, and Anton came to be.
@@MurderofBirdsImpact true
zhongli❤️
Hahah, the Albedo/Fischl/Zhongli/Bennett party you've got in there is the exact same one I use most of the time in my alt account in that exact same order. Great minds~...
I really liked this quest too, it's cool to get that history.
Seeing an Agent without his mask is so weird and human.
Wait, so he threw stone Spears the size of mountains then how big was Rex Lapis? I can imagine Rex Lapis fought Azdaha in his dragon form instead of his god form.
Venti during archon war was capable of yeeting mountains with the wing. In fact he yeeted them so far they are outside of the map.
Well, tbh I don't think the people of Khaenri'ah are actually innocent, at least not ALL innocent,
for all the war machine they built and the foul nature of their creations using alchemy.
Drowning Archon strikes again
After Zhongli's line of saving history in memories of travellers and time has something to do with the God of time itself?? Like only after travellers interference the lives of archons changed. More like they waited for such moment to arrive. This all hints towards something big?
Will you be uploading your reactions to character stories and voice lines?
