Swayze insisted on doing the Skydiving himself no matter how many times they said no. And this film turned Keanu into a life long surfer. Two truly badass dudes.
This was the second movie Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze were in together. They were both junior hockey players in a movie starring Rob Lowe 5 years earlier called “Youngblood”. Keanu was the goalie. His mask from the movie is in the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto.
This movie premise also was used in the first FAST AND FURIOUS movie The idea started with street racing article but they didn't have a story so they took point break and merged it with cars 😊
Gary Busey is such an interesting actor. He's probably clinically insane, but I love how well his weirdness translates to film. I've never seen him play a character anywhere on the moral spectrum that wasn't both totally convincing and endlessly entertaining.
True Story: Patrick Swayze wanted to shoot the skydiving seen for real because he did extreme sports in real life, and when the studio said no because they thought it was too dangerous he and some of the cameramen actually “borrowed” some of the cameras from the set, rented a plane, and did shot the scene FOR REAL! And while the studio was upset, they were so amazed by that scene that they decided to keep it in the movie.
In the long standing bar debate, "Which Patrick Swayze is better, *Ghost* (1990) or *Roadhouse* (1989)?" the correct answer is *Point Break* (1991), although I'll give the *Dirty Dancing* (1987) Swayze an hoberable mention. I'm an inland guy, and I don't really care about surfing particularly, but *Point Break* hit me right in a formative time in life and feels sort of like an anthem to me, a frame of mind I fully recognize.
The movie opened one week after T2, it didnt stand a chance. That being said it gained a cult following afterwards because of Keanu's star rising after Speed and the Matrix movies. Plus it's directed by Kathryn Bigelow who went on to make The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty so it found a new fan base about a decade later. Not to mention it got a remake in 2015.
I've always loved this movie. Everyone involved in it was great. Kathryn Bigelow is an incredible director. I would love to see you all react to her movie Strange Days
I saw this movie a few times at the theater when it was released. Loved it. It was amazing on the big screen. Now I can see some dated elements, but it is still much better than the most recent remake.
That's why this movie is so great. The audience is going through the same emotions as Johnny, the lines are slowly blurring from the charisma and the effective storytelling. Johnny and Bodhi are like a ying yang of mirror images while being on opposites sides. Also, The Fast and Furious completely ripped it off and even tipped a cap to Point Break by shooting a scene at Neptune's Net the same beach side restaurant that Tyler worked at in Point Break.
After working for the FBI, Johnny Utah became disenchanted with working for the government so he quit and went underground to become a hitman. He then fell in love so he had to give up his assassin job to get married to Helen, but she got sick and died. While grieving for his wife, his house got broken into and Daisy, the puppy Helen gave him was killed by the burglars. His Mustang was also stolen so he went after the people who broke into his house and killed his puppy.
I'm so glad you two saw Point Break and dug it. Surf culture was huge back in the early 90s and this film does such a great job of building a solid action crime thriller around it. It's one of my favorite summer-themed movies to watch during that time of year. By the way, I don't know if you knew this, but those guys who Keanu and Patrick fought on the beach? Those were the Red Hot Chili Peppers lol. I don't know if they've acted in anything else, though.
Only One of them was from RHCP (singer Anthony Kiedis). The gang leader, Warchild, is a badass actual surfer named Vince Klyn. Born in New Zealand but most people think of him as Hawaiian as he grew up there, and became a well known surfer there. Speaking of RHCP, I know Flea acted in The Big Lebowski.
Surfing is still big but yeah it was pretty popular in the 90’s. This movie actually changed my life which is weird to say but it did. I started to surf and I became a police officer. I’m older now and semi retired. Still surfing. I even have a tattoo of Bodhi.
Interesting that you said all they did was steal insured money, while you completely dismissed kidnapping of the girl, and the murder of two police officers. 🤔🤣
yeah they conveniently forgot that. Even if you don't shoot anybody I believe that brandishing weapons in public and pointing them at the citizenry is frowned on too. 🤣
@@bigtechisbigbrother8690 Where does the Fed get its money to pay for bank theft? Oh yeah, from you. Solid logic. I'm lazy, can you just send me your money so I don't have to go to the bank?
I'm so happy you guys did the Stand By Me so here i am gonna share one special comedy movie, (LOVE YOU TO DEATH 1990) Do it please, it's such a golden movie, there was legend, River Phoenix.
Johnny just wanted to hang with the bad boys and catch Bodhi. Then, catch and realease. Surfing: What started as an "undercover", turned into a passion! Angelo Papas was the heart and soul of the flick.
I live in Hawaii and I used to body board.🤙🤙🤙🏄🏄🏄 If you like surfing movies, you may want to check out "North Shore" as well.👏👏👏 Love your ladies reaction.❤️❤️❤️💜💜💜💙💙💙 POINT BREAK IS FIRE!!!🔥🔥🔥
Can you guys watch SET IT OFF? It's an all female bank robber movie with lots of great acting and drama. Funny you should mention the actor who played their boss, being a jerk in a lot of his movies because he's also in Set It Off as a jerk.😂
22:23 - that's the problem. All they wanted to do was to surf. None wanted to work for the money, when it's so much easier to just rob the bank. I can't respect people that use violence because they are lazy.
I once filled out an application with this question "When you watch movies, do you ever hope the thief gets away." and I thought of course I do that is the point of a lot of movies... but wrote No, of course not, they are thieves they should go to jail. I do wish Brody's last ride would have lasted longer and been a little better. When you watch Thor: Ragnarok, when Thor is entering his password in the quinjet and has to say "point break" that is because he made a remake that bombed.
The New release of Point Break came out in 2015, I found it surprisingly good to. Alot of action. But obviously nothing beats this original. Great performances by Keanu, Patrick, and Busey.
"That's really good for '91" What does it mean for '91? Talking about music for example if you listen to November Rain by Guns N' Roses from '92 would you say: "that's really cool for '92"? or just "that's really good" (provided you like the song, of course)
Um…unless he had a small bit part in that movie, I think you’re thinking of Nick Nolte(to be fair, both actors have some WILD mugshot photos that might have helped confuse). 🤔🤷♂️
24:28 Well, he just killed someone in the bank. :P But aside from that and the robbery, his attitude to life is a reflection that life is not about working to death.
I remember walking out of the theater at the end of The Fast And The Furious back in 2001 thinking, "what a shitty, wannabe Point Break. Down to the hero hooking up with the girl by ordering a tuna sandwich from a little food shack. POINT BREAK rules. It's still entertaining and exciting as hell. The action is great, the actors are fun, and the stunts are insane! Don't bother with the remake. It's just terrible.
Swayze insisted on doing the Skydiving himself no matter how many times they said no.
And this film turned Keanu into a life long surfer.

That is true actor integrity. It really just is a paycheck to others.
RIP Swayze

Such a sick movie still holds up. Rip Patrick Swayze!
Surfing is the source, change your life, swear to god
Kathryn Bigelow is such an incredible director. This movie holds up absurdly well for its age
And "Strange Days" with Ralph Fiennes and Angela Bassett...amazing film , very very underrated movie
Love Strange days
For anyone who's never seen this movie, this movie is the reason why Tony Stark calls Thor... Point Break.
Shut yo marvel ass up !!!!

How about Thor sucks and so does iron man.. point break is better, hush..
@@VictorLugosi sure, if you say so???
@VictorLugosi u gotta be 12 with a comment like that 😂😂
"That's not Trinity!"

This movie dates itself, but it's pretty great. And definitely a moment in movie history. And a thousand times better than the remake.

Stone classic -Love this film! So many people were inspired to try skydiving or surfing because of this film - I was! 😊
Please check out the 1994 classic 'Speed' with Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock. Ta. 🧡
Great reaction! This film came out while I was in high school. But no waves to ride near where I lived. 😂
Reeves was still a few years from his peak performance yet this is his best role. Being a little raw made his character better.
Fast & Furious stole the Point Break plot. Always have loved this movie
You aren't wrong.
One of my all time favourite movies 🍿
Keanu screaming "FUCK IT!" and leaping out of a plane without a parachute is a high point in American cinema
Cult American cinema
One of my absolute favorite films
This is an all timer. You're going to love it.
They remade the movie just a few years ago... But still when you say "Point Break" everyone thinks of this movie.
Remakes are usually bad and not as good as the originals.
You girls gotta react to Ghost (1990) .... Kristen will have a cry fest in that movie hehe
36:36 I totally understand taking time to heal, but... "I've even been avoiding my home in Hawaii" .... That's something I will never be able to say
This by far my favorite Keanu Reeves movie ever then in 2001 took this movie and call it the fast and the furious but point break did it better

I love the Red Hot Chili Peppers as bad guys in here. She also did the " Hurt Locker ". Good reaction

@@clevelandcbi Yep. Excellent reasoning! If you think of it this way: Johnny Utah >> Johnny U >> John UU >> John Double U >> John W >> John Wick
