I wrote 'Mistress Of Mine' while I was watching a Humphrey movie. The movie location was in a jungle. There was some Bogart dialogue: "it's just the heat of the night and the dance of the fireflies". I turned that around and my first line became "She's there like the heat, she dances like the fireflies"
This and Mr. Briggs entry with 'Hard Life' gave this album an edge that made it the most enjoyable listen for me! Thanks for sharing you talents--in what feels like a previous lifetime!!!!! ;~))
every song from LRB was so full of feeling, what a great band and one that should be in the rock-n-roll hall of fame! Little River Band Greatest Hits was the first album I got for Christmas when I was 11 years old. My brother came home from service after being gone for 4 years and gave me this for a present andf I still have it to this day!
@@robb5681 the problem is if RnRHoF give award it will have to be to the cover band that have "legally" stolen their name. they can't recognize them as LRB. I think it is out of respect that they have NOT inducted "LRB" - what a travesty and salt in the wound if those vultures who live on their legacy were to shamelessly get up and accept such an award. Everyone in the music biz has too much respect for the REAL LRB to let that happen.
The RRHOF has little to to with actual rock n roll anymore. There are way too many that shouldn’t be in there. It’s lost it’s meaning for me and many others.
There are very few bands that are as talented as Little River Band not to mention they all had awesome voices. When their songs came on the radio you knew that was Glenn Shorrock's beautiful voice. Great songs and great memories!
Graehm Goble, you have written so many wonderful songs, amazing! And not just melodies, but good words too. And your high harmony singing is not easy to do. Beeb was a great harmony singing partner. Glenn was a fantastic lead singer and front man. Your productions were outstanding. Very few artists can fill so many hats the way you do. Even writing melodies is fine and getting others to help with words, performance, and production is ok. But you did it all and quietly stayed in the background. Many thanks to you for all the enjoyment your music has brought to my heart. Well done, and thank you!
Graeham, I've made comments elsewhere but I wanted to thank you personally for the wonderful gift you and your colleagues have given us with the great variety of your musical genius. Thank you for having the conviction of writing songs with a social concience. Thank you for treating us with your wonderful ballads as well. At a time when the world seems to be losing its taste for easy listening, it takes a certain "stubborness" to carry on with such songs. Thanks again. From a 69 y/o DJ. :)
I thought the Beatles were the best band I ever heard till I heard the first song from you guys, it was, It's a long way there and I have listened to every one of your songs over and over and it reminds me of the first time I heard you all. You guys are the best, the way you all put your music and voices together is simply amazing and tell everyone that was in the band that you guys made my life a little better from me...I have every tune you guys ever made and you and the other guys should be very proud of yourselves for making the greatest music that band could ever dream of making...thank you, thank you You guys are the BEST
Saw them in concert in Atlanta GA in 1979 at the Fox Theater. Best live concert I have ever heard. First Under the Wire album. One of the best memories from those many years ago. Thank you LRB from the bottom of my heart.
I was 13 yo when i heard this song tnx to the uploader still alive listening to this fav song of mine 54 yo guy here ..greetings from Philippines Manila..cheers
Glenn Shorrock sings with heart, mind, and soul ! Excellent song again from LRB originals. Forever River Little Band and / or Birtles, Shortock Goble whatever
Absoluely best song, best voice, best performance and best band of the 70's & 80's. My all around best song..so haunting sound and just recently found this youtube video. I bought the album in 78/79 and remembered this song and searched the tube for the song ..and lo and behold !! Wish I could have attended a few of your concerts back then...I put your writing and musical talents right there with the Eagles !! ps..your drummer in teh video is really in to the song...Keep on rockin !!
I'm form Portugal and I love this song just from the 80´s when I hear it from the first time. It was lost in my list because I missed the name of it. I loose it but I recover it now again. It's a pleasure to hear it again.
Can't get enough of this song and band. Have this on a CD and play it all the time. It just goes tomy heart and soul !!! Glenn and Graeham mix vocals are the best !!
Absolutely hypnotic and beautiful song.Memories as I was approaching the best times of my life.I m back in that time zone instantly.Amazing how 1 song transports you back in a manosecond.
What a perfectly beautiful song. A real gem that somehow didn’t get its due, being crowded out by so many other LRB hits. Glen Shorock’s voice and delivery does great justice to this brilliant song.
I saw you in the mid eighties at the Muny in Forest Park,in St.Louis, and I've been to many concerts but honestly it was the best concert I've ever been too! It was a beautiful night with incredible music.
Another brilliant song by LRB, my favorite group of all time. Saw them in Fairbanks Alaska in 1990 and it was so good. A memory of a lifetime! Started singing their songs nonstop and got both smiles and glares, lol.
Well, this song is just incredible, thank you for enriching our lives with it. I have a terrible voice yet I won a karoke contest two years ago singing this. I'm a retired Navy Master Chief who has traveled the world times over and I always think of this song when I meet women who seem to have that beautiful, yet mysterious way about them....
Didn't even know that a film clip for this most underrated of LRB's songs existed. For reasons that I can't explain this track always conjures up images of an old Humphrey Bogart type movie set in some exotic tropical location. Superb writing and arrangement.
If I could be blessed to sing..it would be with Glenn's voice. All his vocals are fantastic. He still has the pipes as I see in his older performances ! All your songs have such real meaning and touches the heart..but then again..that's the beauty of music and great musicians !!
Oooh my ,!!! My favorite, best among the best of all time, this song addressing everylady, a partner, admiring her,,, I love this for me, from my husband,,,
Love the way Simon in the Birtles, Shorrock and Goble version of the song plays the intro.Adds character to the song even though it was beautiful from the start.Followed LRB from the 70's while I was living in the Hague,Holland, where LRB was getting a huge following. BSG ,time to get back to composing.Love to hear and play some on my guitar.
@GraehamGoble Hey Graeham, I'm a big fan of the band, and in particular, your compositions. I saw you guy's in London, Ontario back in '79 at the London Gardens. You were phenomenal. Best harmonies in the business. What a night. Thanx buddy for all your brilliant music!!!
I was in a cover band that later did this song. It's Been so many years since I first heard this. It's still as powerful and holds even more meaning for me now then it did then. Thank you so much for posting this song.
Glenn's lead vocals are excellent here, and always for that matter. I love his voice and the harmonies with Beebs and Graham. Superb songwriting, singing, and musicianship. I hope you can get your band name back and tour the USA again. I didn't get to see you in my teens during the seventies, but I would travel far to see you now.
Haven't heard this song in way too long....it was popular back when I was married...my step daughter and I loved this band and I loved this song in particular. Great music joining with deep lyrics....great, great sound! Thanks for posting!
@GraehamGoble Well, looks like I hit the nail squarely on the head! Thanks for that Graeham - talk about getting information "straight from the horses mouth" - the man who composed the song himself no less. Thank you for writing one of my all time favourite pieces of music.
Beautiful lyrics! She turns like the tide and takes me where I've never been There's peace at her side, she's a lady and a gypsy queen I'm caught by her spell, sometimes I wish I'd never seen That mistress of mine, that mistress of mine.
Thanks Graeham, a beautiful song. Peoples need to watch the interview with Daryl Cotton to understand the model for the Mistress. For me, the "crossover" song is "Do I ever cross your mind?" by Billy Burnette & Michael Smotherman. There is a wonderful version of that song on Ray Charles "Genius Loves Company" album with Bonnie Raitt.
I wrote 'Mistress Of Mine' while I was watching a Humphrey movie. The movie location was in a jungle. There was some Bogart dialogue: "it's just the heat of the night and the dance of the fireflies". was it from the African Queen?
my fave Bogart movie
