- Are you feeling trapped - isolated - neglected - in a university? When is it time to consider moving institutions for work? The research through the pandemic is revealing that volatile times are upon us. So - when should you move jobs? When should you stick it out and hope for improvement?
The vlog was definitely needed. I had to leave one of my former institutions as the time was way overdue. I made up my mind to no longer be reduced and consumed by mediocrity and wastage - which appears to be in abundance within academia! And this is why I am relocating to Brisbane next year securing a level B position. Thanks for this Vlog Tara 💓💓💓
One of the things that worries me about academia is how many full time staff members who have managed to get the coveted full time continuing positions, from post-docs to associate professors, feel trapped by them and feel they have no other options.

Tara, thank you so much for creating this, and for dedicating so much of your time to it. I am so grateful that you have discussed the question I asked in so much detail. And all of this makes so much sense. Particularly for me when you talked about your own experience of being in that first long-term post, and realising that you should have left before you did. Everything you said really resonates with me and my own situation. Since asking the question it has made me really think, and I have now submitted four applications for posts at different universities, two being for posts at the same level but where I can see potential progression in the mid-term, and two for promoted posts. Now I just have to keep my fingers crossed. Thank you again though, this was so amazing, and you are so amazing for giving yourself and your experiences to us all in the way that you do.

Thanks for this vlog, very informative. I am a young academic who is working towards my tenure. While I am quite satisfied with my job, but can you make a vlog on how academics should navigate academia where you meet and work with people who are lazy, underperforming, and mediocre? These people are normally tenured. Would love to hear from you.
