Thank you for this vlog Tara (and to your guest Gareth). My gosh - much HIT home.
The environment aspect explains my present situation... Mental fitness disappears ENTIRELY without a safe feeling / rejuvenating / self-reclaiming environment. I wonder if this is a kryptonite for others?! There it is again - the differential susceptibility hypothesis/theory... (though not directly mentioned). Survival under conditions for those sensitive in unsupportive environments - hmmm - I wonder if this rules this cohort out of higher education. Another important vlog - HUGE reflection of self here! Thank you for this! I should return to kindy - finger painting and glue eating - this making up for the home environment returned to each weekday!

Such a powerful comment, Krystal. The importance of feeling safe is crucial. The challenge is how we create learning, which necessitates a recognition of what we do not know - yet configure a context of safety to take a risk and try something new. When we add student diversity to this discussion of learning enviroments, this becomes a complex conversation. But a crucial one. Thank you for being you. And you are spectacular. Always remember that. txxx

@@officeofgraduateresearchfl9343 You are a gem Tara, and your vlogs have me thinking on some DEEP things. To keep the context with PhD students - I wonder if there are opportune times for those with rough life experiences to undertake a PhD. Their efforts may surpass efforts of others - they may not walk away with a squeaky high grade - but may have in an optimal environment. Their mental toughness is tested frequently with greater intensity - maybe these are the people who can do, and can accomplish the BIG things (minority groups come to mind).
Ps, I vomit at the word 'resilience' (with you Tara). As if there exists a typical baseline - hey, ALL humans live similar lives. How many are even TESTED in life?! The age range of PhD students is making more sense to me...
Love your work Tara - keep it up - never go quiet!
