This video and explanation (especially about the placement of the leading arm) hugely improved my surfing in just one session. Thank you.

It would also be good to explain when and where he turns on the wave. He was leaving the barrel and getting towards the shoulder so to get back to the pocket, he knew he had to cut back. Maybe that could be part 2.
I also liked how he took a subtle weight shift back towards the tail when he was about to turn.
Good stuff! That's a giant board!

Great video for the lesson. 1:54 is the explanation why Kai Lenny is riding a huge rhino chaser in smallish waves ;-)

These videos are very helpful for intermediates and developing surfers. Thank you. I need a longer board for bigger waves but worry about popping up too far forward. How does Kai or anyone else pop up on the longer board more towards the back?

Hey Rippert, thanks for reaching out. Using good pop-up technique and getting your hands down next to your pecks will help a lot. Remember when you pop-up to keep your eyes focused down the line and never drop your head. This will help shift your body back a few inches when you pop-up. You'll still need to adjust your feet back on the board to turn it. Feel free to reach out with more question via email. chapin@surfprotechniques.com Best wishes! "Progression through technique!"

Hi Chapin, good video. Just one question should you put tail pads on longer boards?

Thank you for your question William. You can put a tail pad on your longboard. It won't hurt. Shoot me an email if you have any other questions. chapin@surfprotechniques.com
      Best wishes :)

Hi, I have a bit of trouble turning forehand tight and with style you know everything forehand sucks. When I am surfing my back hand I can snap, floater, air, reverse the whole lot. I don't get it. Why can't I turn that good on forehand and smash it on back hand. Normally would not bother but its getting to me now and the gap between the two is exponential. My mates who are not nearly as co ordinate as me can turn and fan it nicely but i cant get it!!! please help

Hey thanks for commenting. Yes your are correct. Duck diving that big of a board is virtually impossible. If you ever have any surf specific questions please feel free to email me at chapin@surfprotechniques.com. I'm always happy to help. Best wishes! "Progression through technique!"

Rent or borrow I don't think so maybe a buddy might let you borrow one just got a decent board and learn to ride it. If I'm riding someone else's board I worry about Fn it up you can't cut loose
