Fun fact about Neocolor ll crayons: if you decide to sharpen them, save the shavings in a palette and mix them a few drops of water. The shavings will dissolve into a creamy gouache like paint. I honestly like to use them even more this way than in a stick. My only issue with this product is that some colors are not lightfast. I made swatches, covered one side with side with several layers of dark masking tape and placed them in a sunny window. In a couple of weeks the reds in particular faded dramatically.
mmm. yah the lightfastness things really bothers me sometimes, but I want to use all the art supplies! Luckily so far I've just been sticking to my sketchbook and most of my artwork I scan in and sell digitally but I would like to sell originals one day so I am going to have to be careful. I love the consistency of gouache so I will have to give the shavings a try! Thank you for the tip!
I have the same set of Holbein wcs or similar and they are more opaque than their other wcs. I was kind of confused at first too. But then who cares?...they're so soft & beautiful! If I could only choose ONE wc brand, I'd probably choose Holbein. I don't have a huge collection, but I add when I can.
Fun vid. Lovely supplies. By the way I usually break my neocolors intentionally- I find them easier to use, less precious and I keep half in my travel supplies!
I heard John, from Daniel Smith, say the sticks are not supposed to be used as crayons. They are full pigment sticks only. To paint from. If that helps.
Aah so many beautiful supplies 🥰🥰🥰 I recently gave away all my ciao markers to replace them with sketch markers so it's a bit too late for me 😂 the Holbein watercolor set you got is their pastel set, so all of the colors have some white in them and will be opaque because of that. But they look soo nice! I love the colors you picked from daniel smith 😍
I typically work with acryla gouache so the opaqueness won't bother me but that is definitely good to know! The Daniel smith watercolor sticks are so fun! I didn't even know they existed until I saw them in the store. Thank you for your kind comment! 🤍
@@ThePrimroseCorner I took a closer look at mine, which has two orange, brown and ultramarine... but it is second hand, so could be because of the previous owner

that is good to know! And they definitely don't lay down color like a crayon or a pastel. Thank you for the tip! 🤍
The Daniel Smith website says you can though 😂
@margaretf667 I don't know what the website says. I have some of these and they don't lay down smoothly. They're sticky.

Me not knowing that about the inktense pencils
I only learned about it recently from someone else's RUclips video!
That's a weird Neocolor II set, no bright yellow...
Yah, I feel like this set was definitely missing some colors. I plan to go back and buy a few singles to help fill in the gaps.
