As a former owner of an 08 and a current owner of a 13, the added torque in the k24 is a blessing to so many Honda owners plagued by a lack of torque. While nothing ground breaking, the k24 is so much easier to drive daily. You can't and shouldn't be redlining your motor all the time. It's nice to know I can just shift at 4k and still make moderate power.

I don't understand all the arguing between 8th and 9th gens. I own a 9th, never driven an 8th but the 8th is what got me to want an si. Both these cars are awesome for the money and these cars are brothers anyways. We should respect them both especially if were are honda enthusiast's.

I can say that, this car pulls pretty hard for a n/a, and is mad fun on windy roads. I plan on getting bolt ons and a tune eventually, but for now, it's my weekend cruiser. Nice video. I just recently purchased a white 2011 Civic Si, and I am happy I chose the 8th gen over the 9th. On paper, the 9th gen should be so much more superior to the 8th. Bigger engine, higher torque, and more HP. But in reality its not. Honda made the 9th gen Si to cater more towards the casual market. Therefore, the suspension is softer, it revs lower, and even though it has lots of torque, its max HP production is actually lower than the 8th gen. Another thing that turned me off on the 9th is the fact that it only has VTEC on the intake cam, and not on the exhaust cam. Why Honda did this, I have no clue. Especially since the K24A, that came with the TSX, had VTEC on both cams like it should. All in all, I think the 8th is more true to the Si badging. It does stand for sports injected after all. And with the new direct injected turbocharged Honda engines coming out, I think the 8th gen Si may very well be the last true, high revving NA Honda engine to ever be produced.
I'm pretty sure all civic si have vtec only on the inlet valves. That's why they call it i-vtec. And the 9th gen has 3 more horsepower stock to stock. The 2014 has 7 more horses over the 8th gen.
***** only the 9th gen with the 2.4 have vtec on the intake. The 8th gen 2.0 liter had vtec on both cams. The i in the ivtec just means the ecm adjust cam angles when it needs it
Manny 82pr a while back I watched a RUclips video which showed mechanically how vtec works. It showed the actual moving parts and how vtec is engaged. In that video they said the i in i-vtec stands for intake. Also I don't know if the 2015 or 2014 model is the one with the new front end but that one has 205 hp because of a new intake system.
I like both the K20Z3 (8th gen) and K24Z7 (9th gen) engines. Although these engines are in the same family they are completely different. The K20 replaced the B series and the K24 replaced the H22 and F20B DOHC VTEC motors. The 8th Gen Civic has that feel just like the old 2000 Civic Si EM1 Coupe and the 9th Gen Si reminds me of a 4th and 5th Gen Prelude if that makes sense.
I have a 2012 9th gen. They weigh less and look different than the 14-15 models. A lot less technology too, feels more old school except for the helical limited slip differential. I really don't understand why people prefer high revs over torque beyond sound. They're both sick cars if you re-flash.
Both gens are nice as hell. The 9th gen's interior absolutely shits all over the 8th gen's interior. In terms of over all looks the 9th gen coupe is nicer than the 8th gen coupe, as far as the sedans go it's definitely a toss up because the 8th gen's have the Mugen Si and you can also convert them into an FD2 (civic type r). It's all preference, I'd go with whatever you can find the best deal on you can't go wrong with either one to be honest. 🇯🇵
if you seat in them stock the *th is way higher quality plastics, cloth, headliner, etc. For tech the 9th gen of course is king. For tach speedometer layout I prefer the eighth gen, it looks like a heads up display at night with the tech taking center stage,
2006-2011 fg2 fa5 had a bluetooth integration option. honda navi during that gen was actually quite nice. make sure you try something before u dock it bro

The Civic Si that I was driving didn't have the Navigation option. As far as the quality of the Navi goes... It really wasn't that great the image quality was definitely dated because I had the same Navigation system in my 2010 Honda Accord V6. The new Navi system is 100 times better check it out. The 8th Gen is more of a street car while the 9th is more of a daily driver with that extra torque the K20z3 is a much better platform than the K24z7. In the end the K20z3 has more potential not to say that the K24z7 doesn't. Just my friendly opinion.
Well I drove both and at ended up buying a 2012 sedan, I notice that the 2012 is almost 80 lbs lighter than the 13,14 and 15, is obvious why is lighter doesn’t have what the new ones have but, still lither than the 8th gen and even has more power! And that’s why I decided to buy the 9th gen... so far so good! Only thing that come to my mind is that best of both worlds would be a 99,00’s si with a k24 and 8000 rpm would be awesome 😎
For the 9th gen , When the k24z7 blows out , just swap in the 06-08 k24a2 🤷🏻♂️ problem solved , then you’ll get true vtec and good tq, in the end you get the tech , and performance, and if you want more performance there’s a supercharger or turbo ,

Had the 8th gen and did full bolt ons and sold it for a stock 9th gen SI and I couldn’t be happier 🤟🏼 love the useable torque of the 9th gen for everyday driving and the creature comforts the 9th gen has is awesome
2014 Si has so many more damn features compared to any Si before it, it's almost unfair from a tech standpoint if you bought a 2012 or 2013 Si and missed out on the 2014. With the added HP, interior, and handling it's the best Si yet.
The 2014 has disgusting wheels and interior. The 3 more hp is lost by the added weight of the so called tech and simple mods can make a 2012-2013 out handle the 2014 with ease. There isn't much of a difference between the 13 and 14, but a huge difference between the 12 and 13.
Honestly the only reason i chose an fa5 over the fb6 is because the fd2 looks better than the fb6, and the closest thing i can get to an fd2 is to convert my fa5. The 9th gen comes with awesome tech, and is faster than the 8th gen when you compare stock to stock, but i honestly just don't really like how the 9th gen civics look.
8th vs 9th is really a drivers race. And most reports claim the 9th will pull about half a car in the 8th mile, but the 8th will pull half a car on the freeway 60mph-120mph. So its really a toss up.
All it need is a nice HFP lip kit, diffuser and it looks dope. People like family cars (sedans) now. I think civics should be coupe only like the 2000 em1. Even the rsx-s was a coupe/hatchback. I’m not a fan of the oversized sedans clearly. I guess it’s base on taste.

I honestly feel like Mugen wasted their time on the 2014 though. If you're going to buy a Mugen Si, stick to the 2008 FA5. Any Honda enthusiast will tell you that!
As a Owner of a Original 2006 Si Coupe I would say its the Best Civic I ever drove the 8 gen is the best Civic on Streets remember when the 8 gen came out it won Sports Car of the years beating even The BMW M3 ? So the 9 gen with its tsx motor sorry to say never had a chance to really Shine like the k20 I'm finally going to change the computer put Honda flash pro 9500 RPM = Smile
I owned a 2010 si and although the 8000 rpm red line was fun and the vtec was very noticeable the car was very slow. I got bored of it in just a few months. 2 years later I bought the 9th gen and I don't miss the the high revving k20. Torque is what makes the wheels turn and the k24 has plenty of it.
Wow I never heard the 8th gen being called slow, most that have tested both have both within a tenth of each other 0-60, quarter mile lap, etc. car and driver motor trend, automobile, honda websites, etc. You do have to rev it higher, but it revs super fast and thats part of the fun, but its fast and moves great even under 6000 rpms, under 3500 is a different story though
I've driven both back to back. I'm a little bias because I own a 2014 but in all honesty I wouldn't think twice to choose it all over again. 7500rpm redline vs 8200 isn't anything crazy. 35 more pounds of torque makes up for the weight difference. My car vs the other car with the tune and intake was dead even while mine was stock. It's apples to oranges in terms of comfort, 2014 is much softer so that's a downside. Looks are subjective. Shifter on 2014 is better. Reviewer is biased, as am I, but I choose the 9th
the k20z3 has a redline of 8400. it's fly by wire and has electric steering. Also the stereo and speakers are really good. a headphone jack sounds way better than bluetooth. also the k24 is not a totally different motor but it has been around in that form in the US for longer and has way more aftermarket support than the western only 20kz3
@@aaronp9835 no its not, there are many more factors, weight, transmission, real vtec, and when it kicks in, it is better at least at that moment, but not down low, and the turbo would probably be best in the mid range, each has pluses and minuses, depending on rev and speed, and what you are doing at the time, and then there is the sound, and full vtec rush, turbo rush, or large displacement smoothness, again they are different ways of reaching pretty much the same performance goals, and none are better all the time. My perfect engine would be the 2.4 liter, with the 2.0 litter full vtec, and the 1.5 liters turbo added, for the best of all three worlds, low large displacement smooth power, mid range turbo boost, and high end rev happy full vtec boost. That would be insane!. If you look at the data, the cars are neck and neck even with one with less displacements, both are great, even the newer turbo civics, are about the same or slightly slower. neither is always better, small 1.5 turbo, 2.0 liter full vtec high revving, larger 2,4 half vtec all are equally good at getting 0-60 in around 6 and a half seconds and similar quarter miles, of course the latest has a handling advantage with its stronger chassis, but after market can take care of that. I would say they are different not always better, as there are times that vtec is better times the turbo is better times the larger displacement is better depending on a lot of other factors. IMHO.
Sadly the 2014 have rims that were 29lbs each… it really holds it back if you get rims that are 16-17lbs it changes the whole vehicle and is the best things you can do.
Good review, having worked at Honda before, I originally had my heart set on an 8th gen as well, that was till I drove a 9th, a noticed the rpm was lower and it did bug me, frankly I think it bugs all of us, however, I gave up that extra 1000 rpm for torque, nevertheless both these machines are amazing. Buddy of mine has an 8th gen and I roll in the 9th gen, fun lining up next to him lol.

I had a 2005 TSX (auto) I sold a few years ago and wanted to get back to the small car, honda 4 cylinders again.. The k24 motor is proven, provides usable power/torque in everyday driving (without revving 6k+ every gear) and it a bit more refine. Also like the styling better. Don't like 10th gen SI's and will always prefer NA to turbo.
Haters will hate on us 9th gen drivers... The 8th gens are amazing.. But I love my 2014 SI coupe.. More power.. Power fun to drive.. I do love the 8thgens front seats though.. Super comfy.. But most 8thgen owners are douche bags TALKIN down on us 9thgen owners.. SMDH
It's all good, 8th genes just wanted honda to keep full vtec, 8000 rpm, and use better quality plastics,clothe, headliners etc. while adding the good things the 9th gen bring torque smoother shifting, etc.
This video is purely subjective I'm sure if you compared the 8th generation to the 6th generation civic si you would prefer the 6th generation cause its revs higher and is more fun take everything in too account as a package not just the engine
man, excellent video, I am in search of an SI, right now I have an EX 8th generation manual transmission and I love it, but I have reached the point of wanting more speed and power, I am not someone rich in money and I have to adjust to what I can pay like many and this video has helped me a lot to say which one to buy, if the 8 generation looks great when you add some mods, but sadly it is quite obsolete in technology, on the other hand the 9 generation for obvious reasons includes much more technology that its previous generation and kicks a little more than the 8th, thanks for the video congratulated you really helped me a lot....
I’ve owned a 2013 si and currently have a 2007 si. I don’t think one is necessarily better than the other it’s more about what you’re looking for in a car the 2013 or so offers a bit more comfort with more technology while the eighth GEN offers more off a raw feel while still maintaining some comfort. The seats on the eighth generation are much better. The sounds from a K 20 is much better in my opinion.
Just traded a 2011 fa5 for a 15 fb6 the 9th gen is a better car imo the torque the features and technology and looks don’t get me wrong the fa5 looks fantastic but that modern look did it for me I do miss the 8k redline and that crossover but I can live with the fact that I got way more torque and just overall a better more comfortable car

Well this 2014 Honda Civic Si and my 2013 Honda Accord V6 coupe are in two totally different classes. But it honestly depends on what you are looking for in a vehicle. The reason why I chose my Accord was for the fact that it have a more premium feel and essence than the SI. But of course if was for the power. The Si has a great power delivery right from the factory but if you drove both cars back to back, the V6 is night and day when it comes to power. You could also do a 4 cylinder accord with a 6 Speed manual but if thats the case, I would just go for the SI. Now if you want to just have a fun car that has a lot cool features to offer from the factory, will only be around 24k for the price, will be fun to drive and does well on gas, get the SI. But, if you want something that has a premium feel, 31k for the price, and will have a great amount of power go for the Accord V6. P.S. if you go with the Accord V6 and you know how to drive stick, go with the manual 6 speed option. I've driven it and trust when I say. You won't be disappointed!!!!

I’ve had both cars and don’t get me wrong the 8th Gen Si is a fun car to drive and crack vtec but due to the weak bottom blocks I stayed away from buying another one. I prefer the 9th Gen just because it’s more torquer and it just feels better in my opinion. P.S I use to beat on my 8th Gen everyday and I crack a cylinder wall.. my 9th Gen I beat on it everyday and it’s still pulling strong
So a little help from fellow car enthusiasts, I was thinking of getting myself into either an 8th gen civic si or 3rd gen Acura TL but ultimately decided on the si for the potential, now part I’m stuck on is deciding wether to get sedan or coupe, I personally really like the way sedans look with a mugen spoiler and what not and the fact it’s kinda a sleeper, but I’ve always loved coupes too

I got a 8th gen Civic LX coupe even though it's not the SI trim still a fun car to drive the simplicity of the car to me is what makes the 8th gen great it still feels Honda while the new civics feel like there's too much technology crammed into them when you buy Honda you want simplicity and reliablity
I like both and tbh the 9th gen is newer so it will take time before really good parts and tunes are made for it. 8k redline is great but I'd rather have 174lbs torque over 139 and with tuning you could get higher numbers. the 8th has been around longer so people have figure out amazing tunes for it. I have the experience to own a 9th that I love and back in 09 I use to drive my buddies 8th gen every saturday night for 2 hours while he was shitfaced and sleeping in the passenger seat. Loved ripping that thing on the autobahn while stationed in germany. Love hondas and they both have many pros. Only car I loved more was my 09 MS3 with full bolt ons and a tune that thing was quick(to me).
I feel like lmao'ing everytime you have to look down to find 3rd gear lol. Reminds me of the first day I got my Matrix XRS and was SUPER paranoid about shifting into reverse instead of 1st gear haha.

I'm not really sure where you got your information from. Just letting you know the the tech package for the 8th gen is nearly the same as the 9thgen

For tech the 9th gen of course is king.

Hey Sean!! Thank you for watching my videos on my channel! I wanted to say that you are absolutely right. I was explaining that it didn't come standard on the car. The Civic Si that I was driving didn't have the Navigation option. As far as the quality of the Navi goes... It really wasn't that great the image quality was definitely dated because I had the same Navigation system in my 2010 Honda Accord V6. The new Navi system is 100 times better check it out. The 8th Gen is more of a street car while the 9th is more of a daily driver with that extra torque the K20z3 is a much better platform than the K24z7. In the end the K20z3 has more potential not to say that the K24z7 doesn't. Just my friendly opinion.

Well I drove both and at ended up buying a 2012 sedan, I notice that the 2012 is almost 80 lbs lighter than the 13,14 and 15, is obvious why is lighter doesn’t have what the new ones have but, still lither than the 8th gen and even has more power! And that’s why I decided to buy the 9th gen... so far so good! Only thing that come to my mind is that best of both worlds would be a 99,00’s si with a k24 and 8000 rpm would be awesome 😎
For the 9th gen , When the k24z7 blows out , just swap in the 06-08 k24a2 🤷🏻♂️ problem solved , then you’ll get true vtec and good tq, in the end you get the tech , and performance, and if you want more performance there’s a supercharger or turbo ,

Had the 8th gen and did full bolt ons and sold it for a stock 9th gen SI and I couldn’t be happier 🤟🏼 love the useable torque of the 9th gen for everyday driving and the creature comforts the 9th gen has is awesome
2014 Si has so many more damn features compared to any Si before it, it's almost unfair from a tech standpoint if you bought a 2012 or 2013 Si and missed out on the 2014. With the added HP, interior, and handling it's the best Si yet.
The 2014 has disgusting wheels and interior. The 3 more hp is lost by the added weight of the so called tech and simple mods can make a 2012-2013 out handle the 2014 with ease. There isn't much of a difference between the 13 and 14, but a huge difference between the 12 and 13.

Honestly the only reason i chose an fa5 over the fb6 is because the fd2 looks better than the fb6, and the closest thing i can get to an fd2 is to convert my fa5. The 9th gen comes with awesome tech, and is faster than the 8th gen when you compare stock to stock, but i honestly just don't really like how the 9th gen civics look.
8th vs 9th is really a drivers race. And most reports claim the 9th will pull about half a car in the 8th mile, but the 8th will pull half a car on the freeway 60mph-120mph. So its really a toss up.

All it need is a nice HFP lip kit, diffuser and it looks dope. People like family cars (sedans) now. I think civics should be coupe only like the 2000 em1. Even the rsx-s was a coupe/hatchback. I’m not a fan of the oversized sedans clearly. I guess it’s base on taste.

Go with 9th gen. Much better electronic steering and suspension technology then 8th gen. And you can slap the k20 head on it & your solid

As a Owner of a Original 2006 Si Coupe I would say its the Best Civic I ever drove the 8 gen is the best Civic on Streets remember when the 8 gen came out it won Sports Car of the years beating even The BMW M3 ? So the 9 gen with its tsx motor sorry to say never had a chance to really Shine like the k20 I'm finally going to change the computer put Honda flash pro 9500 RPM = Smile
I owned a 2010 si and although the 8000 rpm red line was fun and the vtec was very noticeable the car was very slow. I got bored of it in just a few months. 2 years later I bought the 9th gen and I don't miss the the high revving k20. Torque is what makes the wheels turn and the k24 has plenty of it.
Wow I never heard the 8th gen being called slow, most that have tested both have both within a tenth of each other 0-60, quarter mile lap, etc. car and driver motor trend, automobile, honda websites, etc.
You do have to rev it higher, but it revs super fast and thats part of the fun, but its fast and moves great even under 6000 rpms, under 3500 is a different story though
The shifter on the dash was the best, it was so close to the steering wheel like w race car
I've driven both back to back. I'm a little bias because I own a 2014 but in all honesty I wouldn't think twice to choose it all over again. 7500rpm redline vs 8200 isn't anything crazy. 35 more pounds of torque makes up for the weight difference. My car vs the other car with the tune and intake was dead even while mine was stock. It's apples to oranges in terms of comfort, 2014 is much softer so that's a downside. Looks are subjective. Shifter on 2014 is better. Reviewer is biased, as am I, but I choose the 9th
I have an 8th gen with K24-a2 bottom and a K20-a2 on the top and it hasn’t let down yet.

the k20z3 has a redline of 8400. it's fly by wire and has electric steering. Also the stereo and speakers are really good. a headphone jack sounds way better than bluetooth. also the k24 is not a totally different motor but it has been around in that form in the US for longer and has way more aftermarket support than the western only 20kz3

@@aaronp9835 no its not, there are many more factors, weight, transmission, real vtec, and when it kicks in, it is better at least at that moment, but not down low, and the turbo would probably be best in the mid range, each has pluses and minuses, depending on rev and speed, and what you are doing at the time, and then there is the sound, and full vtec rush, turbo rush, or large displacement smoothness, again they are different ways of reaching pretty much the same performance goals, and none are better all the time.
My perfect engine would be the 2.4 liter, with the 2.0 litter full vtec, and the 1.5 liters turbo added, for the best of all three worlds, low large displacement smooth power, mid range turbo boost, and high end rev happy full vtec boost.
That would be insane!.
If you look at the data, the cars are neck and neck even with one with less displacements, both are great, even the newer turbo civics, are about the same or slightly slower.
neither is always better, small 1.5 turbo, 2.0 liter full vtec high revving, larger 2,4 half vtec all are equally good at getting 0-60 in around 6 and a half seconds and similar quarter miles, of course the latest has a handling advantage with its stronger chassis, but after market can take care of that.
I would say they are different not always better, as there are times that vtec is better times the turbo is better times the larger displacement is better depending on a lot of other factors. IMHO.
id take an 8th gen only if its a coupe, now for the 9th gen, sedan baby‼️🔥

Sadly the 2014 have rims that were 29lbs each… it really holds it back if you get rims that are 16-17lbs it changes the whole vehicle and is the best things you can do.

Good review, having worked at Honda before, I originally had my heart set on an 8th gen as well, that was till I drove a 9th, a noticed the rpm was lower and it did bug me, frankly I think it bugs all of us, however, I gave up that extra 1000 rpm for torque, nevertheless both these machines are amazing. Buddy of mine has an 8th gen and I roll in the 9th gen, fun lining up next to him lol.

I had a 2005 TSX (auto) I sold a few years ago and wanted to get back to the small car, honda 4 cylinders again.. The k24 motor is proven, provides usable power/torque in everyday driving (without revving 6k+ every gear) and it a bit more refine. Also like the styling better. Don't like 10th gen SI's and will always prefer NA to turbo.

This video is purely subjective I'm sure if you compared the 8th generation to the 6th generation civic si you would prefer the 6th generation cause its revs higher and is more fun take everything in too account as a package not just the engine
man, excellent video, I am in search of an SI, right now I have an EX 8th generation manual transmission and I love it, but I have reached the point of wanting more speed and power, I am not someone rich in money and I have to adjust to what I can pay like many and this video has helped me a lot to say which one to buy, if the 8 generation looks great when you add some mods, but sadly it is quite obsolete in technology, on the other hand the 9 generation for obvious reasons includes much more technology that its previous generation and kicks a little more than the 8th, thanks for the video congratulated you really helped me a lot....
I’ve owned a 2013 si and currently have a 2007 si. I don’t think one is necessarily better than the other it’s more about what you’re looking for in a car the 2013 or so offers a bit more comfort with more technology while the eighth GEN offers more off a raw feel while still maintaining some comfort. The seats on the eighth generation are much better. The sounds from a K 20 is much better in my opinion.
Just traded a 2011 fa5 for a 15 fb6 the 9th gen is a better car imo the torque the features and technology and looks don’t get me wrong the fa5 looks fantastic but that modern look did it for me I do miss the 8k redline and that crossover but I can live with the fact that I got way more torque and just overall a better more comfortable car
Aftermarket Headunits are almost always better. I'm glad they kept it simple in the 8th gen, it was less for me to remove.

Well this 2014 Honda Civic Si and my 2013 Honda Accord V6 coupe are in two totally different classes. But it honestly depends on what you are looking for in a vehicle. The reason why I chose my Accord was for the fact that it have a more premium feel and essence than the SI. But of course if was for the power. The Si has a great power delivery right from the factory but if you drove both cars back to back, the V6 is night and day when it comes to power. You could also do a 4 cylinder accord with a 6 Speed manual but if thats the case, I would just go for the SI.
Now if you want to just have a fun car that has a lot cool features to offer from the factory, will only be around 24k for the price, will be fun to drive and does well on gas, get the SI. But, if you want something that has a premium feel, 31k for the price, and will have a great amount of power go for the Accord V6.
P.S. if you go with the Accord V6 and you know how to drive stick, go with the manual 6 speed option. I've driven it and trust when I say. You won't be disappointed!!!!

I’ve had both cars and don’t get me wrong the 8th Gen Si is a fun car to drive and crack vtec but due to the weak bottom blocks I stayed away from buying another one. I prefer the 9th Gen just because it’s more torquer and it just feels better in my opinion. P.S I use to beat on my 8th Gen everyday and I crack a cylinder wall.. my 9th Gen I beat on it everyday and it’s still pulling strong
So a little help from fellow car enthusiasts, I was thinking of getting myself into either an 8th gen civic si or 3rd gen Acura TL but ultimately decided on the si for the potential, now part I’m stuck on is deciding wether to get sedan or coupe, I personally really like the way sedans look with a mugen spoiler and what not and the fact it’s kinda a sleeper, but I’ve always loved coupes too
Sedan have more cosmetics upgrades where's the coupe doesn't have usdm/jdm mugen parts. Overall performance are the same.

I got a 8th gen Civic LX coupe even though it's not the SI trim still a fun car to drive the simplicity of the car to me is what makes the 8th gen great it still feels Honda while the new civics feel like there's too much technology crammed into them when you buy Honda you want simplicity and reliablity

I have the experience to own a 9th that I love and back in 09 I use to drive my buddies 8th gen every saturday night for 2 hours while he was shitfaced and sleeping in the passenger seat. Loved ripping that thing on the autobahn while stationed in germany. Love hondas and they both have many pros. Only car I loved more was my 09 MS3 with full bolt ons and a tune that thing was quick(to me).
