    So a couple weeks ago I purchased a velvet knit v- neck sweater form target and it is so beautiful and soft, at first I thought it might be crocheted and I could recreate my own cause I am a crocheter. So after some googling I found your pattern (literally perfect timing) and I realize now that the sweater I bought was knitted not crocheted and your pattern looks IDENTICAL to it. So I am really excited to make this! It’s ambitious of me to make this as my very first knitting project but I am hoping my crochet experience will help a little and I’m determined to get this done! I want to ask can you use redheart yarn number 4 to make this sweater

    • @JustBeCrafty
      @JustBeCrafty  4 года назад +2

      Hi Rose! The yarn in the pattern (Vel-Luxe) is a #4 yarn. You can definitely use a yarn substitution but just note it will be really important to check your gauge (whether you are subbing the yarn or not) to ensure proper fit.
      You might need to play around with needle sizes to obtain the right gauge. As long as gauge is met, your sweater should come out the correct size.
      But please also note, that the drape and ultimate look of the sweater will change if using a different type of yarn.
      Hope this helps! Happy knitting!

    • @Whynohandle
      @Whynohandle 3 года назад

      You should use the recommended needles that go with your yarn. Typically if you knit with needles that are too small the stitches will be too tight for the yarn weight, whereas; knitting on needles too large could cause your work to have an uneven tension and holes here and there.

    Thank you!i have a question tho? How do you adjust the pattern for thicker yarns? Im sort of making it up as i go along but that doesnt really look as good. Do you have any advice on gauge adjustment?

    • @JustBeCrafty
      @JustBeCrafty  4 года назад

      Hi Kristen! Using a thicker yarn for this project will alter the size of the garment, and ultimately give you a sweater size much larger than the size measurements listed in the pattern (for your particular size).
      Changing this would alter stitch and row counts in the pattern and requires calculations. Unless you're able to match the gauge listed in the pattern, the sizing will be off. For an easy adjustment, you could try sizing down a size or two, and that might work - so if you're a Medium, maybe try working a Small or X-Small. But unfortunately without making the sweater myself with a different gauge, I can't guarantee a good fit.

      Hi Hugo. As mentioned in the videos, you'll need to refer to the written pattern as you work along with the video tutorial. You can view the pattern for free on my blog it's broken up into 3 parts - *Front and Back Panels*, *Sleeves*, and *Assembly*, or a printable PDF version of the pattern can be purchased in my shop. You can find these links in the video's description.
      Because we are all multiple sizes, this pattern is written in multiple sizes, and each size will have different stitch counts and different row counts, so it is impossible to complete the pattern from the video alone. You'll need to reference the written pattern for stitch counts and row counts as well as other pattern specifics. The video is intended to be a visual companion to the written pattern.
      I hope this helps. Happy knitting.

      @@maryb3380 I personally prefer not to use double pointed but there’s a possibility that it would work. It may be difficult tho since there’s no closed end which could cause your stitches to slip off. I would use either circular or straight needles.

    Please make a velvet sweater with round neck

    • @Whynohandle
      @Whynohandle 3 года назад

      If you are making a round neck you would skip the V neck portion and make your front and back panels exactly the same. The only difference would be that when you get to the last few rows of your front panel you’ll need to cast off however many stitches you find to be comfortable for around your neck in the middle of the work. For example if you had 54 stitches and you found that having 18 stitches is the perfect amount for your neck opening you would start the row by knitting 18, cast off the next 18 stitches as though you were finishing the piece, and then knit the last 18. Then you would continue knitting the left and right sides until it is the same as your back panel.

    • @JustBeCrafty

      Unfortunately circular needles are kind of a necessity for working wide garments. You would need to use knitting needles that are 30 inches long to be able to fit all the stitches on there, and that would be super cumbersome! Circular needles are actually super easy to use once you get the hang of them, I promise! :)
