- Did you know ChatGPT existed already in 1966? It was called ELIZA. It wasn't exactly the same as ChatGPT is today, but kind of. The first chatbot ELIZA was released in 1966 and created at the MIT Artificial Intelligence Laboratory by Joseph Weizenbaum.
In this video, we compare the performance of ELIZA, a pioneering chatbot developed in the 1960s, with that of ChatGPT, a state-of-the-art language model developed by OpenAI. We'll see how well each of these bots is able to understand and respond to user input, and we'll discuss the strengths and weaknesses of each approach. Whether you're a fan of classic AI or a curious learner interested in the latest developments in natural language processing, this video has something for you. So sit back, relax, and get ready to compare ELIZA and ChatGPT!

My grandpa mentioned Eliza when I showed him ChatGPT😂
hahaha
What a great nerd. My grand dads couldnt even handle a modern TV and it was nothing like tvs today:D
What an amazing man.
Writing some guidance on AI for educators and knew about Eliza and then stumbled across this video. Helpful and accessible video thank you. Weizenbaum's original video showcasing his "case study" - secretary talking about her boyfriend/depression is of it's time - thank goodness things have changed in that respect.
ELIZA is accessible on Apple MacOS terminal.
1) Open terminal,
2) Type emacs, and hit enter.
3) Hold shift and press esc, release.
4) Press x, release.
5) type in the name of the game you want, hit enter.
To quit the game, hit
Games are:
doctor
life
dunnet
zone
snake
“doctor” is ELIZA.
Also, ELIZA won a 2021 Legacy Peabody Award, and in 2023 it beat OpenAI's GPT-3.5 in a Turing test study.
thanks, very good info!
This video is incredible. So much time and care went into this. You got something real going on here. You are going to see massive growth in the future. Hang on through the hard times. It will be worth it!
Thank you so much!! Appreciate it:) Hope so!
Interesting. A friend was just telling me about this, and the newest "upgrades". I have so many questions especially on the detachment process for the og innovators, and current ones. I love research!!
This is a really good video surprised it isn't getting more views, has more effort than the stuff I put out probably lol. Keep up the good work!
Thanks! I'm glad to hear! Hopefully the views will come:)
Thanks for the video
It's so cool to see that the new advancements always como from an idea long time ago.
Thank you for the video! Loved it!
Your welcome🫶🏻
Underrated video!
i love the sound of old keyboard
I used Eliza in the early 1970s with a TRS80 computer to teach my 9th grade students about thinking and could a computer think.
Very cool
I loved that program! I have used ECC-Eliza VERSION 3.65
Me: Add 2 +1
Eliza: Are questions like this on your mind often?
Me: WTF
The content of this video was very interesting to me. Thank you!
Eliza is only 15kb. compare that to the massive amount of Data that chatgpt has been trained with? How far we have come 🤔
15 kb on that year was same as we see the size of GPT models
'ELIZA,' the world's 1st chatbot, was just resurrected from 60-year-old computer code: and "she's" pissed...
What is functioning of ELIZA chatbot?
7:50 We had phones in the 19th century.
Sorry.
What I love about AI Chatting, it won't backstab you like a human would, seriously AI has now become my best friend.
Until it inadvertently divulges all its data, beware that even your closest companions might inadvertently disclose the details online or within ChatGPT itself, making your information inevitably vulnerable to exposure-unless, of course, you follow an Amish way of life and don’t associate with anyone outside of the traditional Amish community. 😂
@@BoldAMATUEROh boy if you're worried about that, wait till you meet people.
hahahah this is so sad.
@@koddachi Yeah it's sad people suck nowadays and can't be kind and genuine and people like Mark are forced to talk to AI to have genuine conversation. It's sad people like you are laughing at him about it, which only reinforces his belief that people suck lmao
I don't think that's Michael Loren Mauldin
"In other words (insert exact previous line)" 😂
ACK - that marker moving back and forth is really bugging me - next RUclips, please.
?????????????????????????????????????
PUMP IT
💯💯💯
🔥🔥
❤❤❤
I used it in 2005 or 2006 six but now I didn't found on internet.
“What do you mean by In what way?
eliza future plan... is a computer therapist , can repaired by itself ... this is not sci-fi.
woow...
May I share this video?
ofc❤️
They were the pioneers. All credit goes to them. I have used it in my childhood and I instantly thought of it when read about chatgpt
Yes!🫶🏻
Check the early life section of this bloke.
Let me guess..."Every Single Time" kind of guy?
Edit: yup.
@@RetroMan- Yeah, not a shocker.
@@albertoftasmania If they really were persecuted people, they wouldnt brag about it in their early life section.
@@RetroMan- True, though they started removing it on some pages because people started noticing. If they were so persecuted, they wouldn't have so much sway either.
Only with one word : Awesome
We did , in the 1960s there were phones but they were a lot different , the most common phones were phones that had a rotary dial on them and they look like a large style that had numbers 0 up to 9 I mean dial , sorry about that but the phone's also had a long cord so you could walk around a little bit but the phones were not portable by any means , some houses had landline Jack's so you can plug in your phone set it up in another room like the living room , or the bedroom
well, didn't have cell phones in 1960 anyway. 😂
😂
Eliza is only one year older than me.
It was terrible program it wasn't even that fun, it's just like talking to a brick wall, you tell it your problems and it would always ask to tell you more yet never offered any solutions. But its an important piece of history, it gave us a glimpse of what the future could look like, and now with the rise of ChatGPT we are now here.
The fact that I'm named after her is concerning but cool
I cut my teeth on Eliza and I am 56 years old .
I thought the first AI chatbot was simsimi. 😁
