- //Support me on Patreon//: / jonnybuilds Watch me build DIY Epoxy River Floating Shelves from live edge slab cutoffs that would’ve been thrown in the trash. I used Total Boat’s 2:1 resin with slow hardener and pigmented the epoxy. The floating shelves are made from walnut and hickory. I used hidden floating shelf hardware to mount the shelves to the wall. Thanks for checking out these DIY Epoxy River Floating Shelves.

Beautiful result! Can't wait to see the full living room come together with these!
Thanks Mike! I can’t wait to have the living room finished so I can hang them in there.
Jonny Builds hi where did you took your mask ?
@@JonnyBuilds ,..
I love how you're EXPLAINING what you're doing and what you're using! This really helps me with my research for my DIY epoxy coffee table!
After watching the video advert i was still skeptical. But when i finally downloaded the plans ruclips.net/user/postUgkxZF0EMnrujZvqHhGkxiz559uIABJWR9TG i was very impressed. The whole plan was just as you said in the video. Thank you very much. I now have a large and valuable collection for my woodworks. This is great!
That is gorgeous I love the detail when the polish or oil sets.
the walnut is gorgeous
As a passionate aspiring artisan you have shown a level of craftsmanship to which I strive to achieve. It is motivating and greatly appreciated.
I love walnut with black epoxy. Looks soo good.
LOL. Come on Johnny. A straight edge rip jig? That's hilarious.
I've watched several epoxy river projects. I feel like I learned more from this one. Thanks for sharing.
ditto
Jonny,
Very beautiful shelves.
I am a huge proponent of finding scraps no one else would use and trying to come up with inventive projects as well. Keep up the great work!
Epoxy pretty much will work for any scrap wood
Wow. That walnut. Just wow
Put together those two pieces would also have made a great table top. Thanks for the clear narration. Country music feels great for epoxy working keep it up👍👍👍👍
They look beautiful! That's a great tip for drilling deep/square holes
Thanks, Johnny!
Great video, Jonny! They’re both just so cool! I think my tendency would have been to put the light colored epoxy with the walnut and the dark one with the hickory, but it turned out great the way you did it too.
Thanks Bruce! They would look good with the colors reversed I think.
This video seemed to not have as promotional content. I liked that, keep up with this format. Please, Thank You Sir
I didn't think I would like them being two different woods and resin color, but it looks amazing. Absolutely love it💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
so beautiful! As a beginner carpenter I'm inspired by all of this.
these turned out amazing!! i'm glad you saved the wood from certain death
The shelves are gorgeous and the resin part looks simple enough, but if you don't have a shitload of really expensive tools it's a nonstarter.
Creativity is forever
Good job buddy! You did a great job and we like the shelves. 👍
Красивая работа, молодец!
As others have mentioned you are not only a fine craftsman, but an Artist as well. I love your attention to detail. I had no idea you could pour epoxy over several pours instead of just one. Something for me to remember and give this particular brand a try. Thank you.
Absolutely gorgeous!
Just beautiful your amazing with your hands what a gift .
Amazing work 😍😍 like always !
Thank you!
ur an inspiration to woodworkers, Brasil here!!
gorgeous shelves - love the bottom chamfer
Subbed. Sick build brother. Would love to feel the texture of the final result.
These look awesome!
Thanks!
Beautiful result
Love love love these shelves
“How to make cheap DIY stuff”
*Brings out half a million dollars machinery *
Yes but the point is that this beautiful wood which is a resource and took years to grow won't be going into landfill. That's what I took from it.
Lol yeah no maybe like 5k maybe depending on whether he bought the plainer or table saw new or used
@@colonelreb8312 ill admit that a gallon of epoxy is costly but really if you hobby wood work the machines he had are the most baseline garage shop machines
@@colonelreb8312 also i didnt really see any high end equipment no specialist tools nothing like that a plainer and table saw are base line if you work on wood necessary if you will
@TechStack Reviews yeah you can always replace a table saw with mobile contractor saw which is a light weight cheaper option too im just saying his machines are pretty base line and no where near special i work in a shop with a 53 inch drum sander and a 5 head moulder i think being hyperbolic about the tools he used is silly
seriously! they make a cordless hot glue gun?! where have you been all my life? Come to Papa!
I will make two for my bathroom!!! Omg!!’ Great idea!
Gorgeous
No wood should ever end in the rubbish.
I want your plainer!!! Lol.
Wow they are beautiful! How many hours did you spend and how much would you charge for a shelf?
Now that is one professional carpenter right there.
You can also drill a hole in the epoxy and place a LED light inside so that when it is on, the shelves would look good.
Good to see a fellow okie makes some beautiful work out of some otherwise “trash”
Watching the hand next to the saw gives me anxiety
So cool
Yeah, one big knot and goodbye fingers on that left hand.
I learned the hard way, my wife called me 4 and half for the longest time after hitting a knot and losing about 1/2inch of my right hand 4th finger😬😅

Wow that's a lot of epoxy filling. Beautiful!
Very very very beautiful!
Me: Why did RUclips reccomend this?
13 minutes later: I have a powerful need for woodworking tools...
Just a little nitpick but the epoxy reaction is always exothermic. You just do not want it to heat up too much to go into a runaway and start bubbling and fuming.
You’re correct! I should’ve clarified that, thanks for the comment and viewing.
A masterpiece with scraps of wood. Totally awesome.
I hope that someday I will have complete equipment and be able to continue the work of my late father who used to work as a wood craftsman for a table like that .... amen greetings from Indonesia
Nice..5$ wort of wood but used $400 on epoxy 😂 jk man HOW MUCH aprox price was this epoxy man ? And again pulling your chain jhonny..love your vids..
Considering that that the brand of resin used was the same as the company who sponsored the video, chances are it cost him nothing.
And Total Boat is one of the cheaper epoxies-inexpensive doesn’t mean bad-I used to use one that cost $140 per gallon-now I use some that is about $50 per gallon-and the best epoxy I’ve ever used (and I’ve used a lot!!)…
This video filled my void with epoxy
😂😂😂
🤨🤨🤨🤨🤨🤨😐😐😐😐
I fill my void with ice cream and cake.
Cool project. If I may add a quick tip, while your guide hand/left hand is steading the rip on the blade side I always hook my thumb on the table as a guide to myself not to exceed this distance. After 45 years of carpentry I"m proud to say I still have all my fingers.
Beautiful. And so satisfying to watch the video. 😊
What’s that super chill song at 10:36?
Exactly what I wanna know. Been rummaging through Epidemic Sounds for it since he says in the description he uses theirs. If any one knows, save my time plox.
*plays video*
*pauses within 7 seconds.*
Did he just say OKC?
*rewinds and replays*
Hot Damn, he sure did. Following for some okie love😂😂 bc hardly anyone even remembers we are a state, lmao!
Haha, thanks!
Your work is also great! 😁
First video I watched he said OKC I said hold tf up. There is a reclaimed wood shop in OKC ??? 😍😍😍
Wow gorgeous!
Perfect creation
8:48 what is that tool?
Stud finder. Its linked in the description.
It’s a stud finder
Jonny Builds thanks
You need to change the name of your channel to Jonny builds amazing things!! ❤️👍🥰🤩
Then I would have to get all new merch, haha.
Wow. Beautiful!!!
You make it look easy, all you need is a big space and, lots and lots of expensive tools.
Or... maybe make do with what you have and just create something. I didn’t always have these tools, but over time I’ve invested in my business. I’ve also been driving the same beat up, paid off truck for 15 years.
Confused why you need a jig on the table saw? Wouldn't the fence work just as well?
Bc the edge of the board referencing off the fence is not straight. It would mean your cut wouldn’t be straight.
@@JonnyBuilds ah, thanks
@@JonnyBuilds why not just put one edge through the jointer?
Bc I can show a different method to the majority of views who don’t have a jointer.
Jonny Builds and those of us who are currently jointerless truly appreciate that Jonny! I loved the table saw sled ad am going to build one just like it.
Thank you so much for helping guide us!!!
They look great. It's a shame to see them as shelves :( You rarely see anything but the edge of a shelf, so it seems like a waste.
Exactly what I was thinking.
I put a back on mine for that reason(mama ‘s laundry shelf) I’ve seen it with spilled soap and softeners on it 😖
Love the way you explained through this. And I'm not even into woodcraft
Amazing results, thanks for sharing..
is it even woodworking if youre NOT wearing a red flannel shirt?
B
Well dang, all these years and I just found out I've been doing this wrong. Now I'm going to have to go buy myself a shirt.
Stunning!
These are fantastic, especially the white and turquoise shelf. Love always.
Really beautiful. 👍👍
Beautiful work.Thanks for sharing
That pearl swirl is stunning. Nice work.
Very impractical shelves....
They're such a work of art that you wouldn't want to put anything on them!!!
Absolutely love this. I really like epoxy and Wood.
Wonderful mate. Just wonderful. Thanks for sharing.
Gorgeous!
Thank you very much for this project . I'm always looking for ideas to help people that lost their jobs .
I had not heard of Total Boat until now. So happy to give it a try. 👍👍👍
