Yes they did. It’s gorgeous. I had a 2002 Camaro SS heavily modified, and I always wished that I had put the work into a Firebird body style. At that time, the fire birds were a lot more expensive and you could find the fourth Camaros for good deals, so that’s what I went with.... well definitely debated later whether I should have spent that extra money
I've always loved 4th gens, I got my first (a 95 z28) in 96. I'm on my fifth one now and it's amazing how with just a few mods how fast they can be. Tick cam, ported 243's, kooks headers and tune and it made 421 wheel. Also have about everything bmr makes suspension wise, the weld in subframe connectors make a huge difference on a t-top car no more chassis flex. Nice Firehawk bud she's a beauty!
Love the Hawk. Nothing like that new car smell 2 decades later. I have a low mile 02 TA that’s a last month build and I know what a time capsule you have.

Pretty interesting to hear others are comparing modern Japanese to 4th gen f-bodies...I was comparing the 4th gen to the JDM 90s vehicles (300zx, Supra, 3000GT, RX7) in my video in my 99 Trans Am/01 Formula, people lost their minds! At the end of the day, we're all car guys. We do cross shop these things! A square wheel/tire setup with a good 200tw tire on a 4th gen handles pretty damn good. Plus it hooks up with any launch technique. The panhard bar rear and double wishbone front is just flat out fun and you can fit 315s on all 4 corners. 98-02 F Bodies have been the best value for performance since new. They are rapidly increasing in value though. I like the firehawk look the best but as you mentioned, none of the "special" slp parts did much. The 01-02s run harder with truck cam and LS6 intake. I say find the least beat up one and buy it. Personally, I hate the WS6 hood anyways. Even if I bought a WS6, I'd sell some other sucker the hood for 3k. They built nearly equal WS6 to non WS6 T/As. All the Camaros are ugly and have far worse seats and interior design overall. But they are lighter and cheaper! Glad to see someone else still supporting and using a 4th gen, subscribing now! I have too many cars but I post my F Bodies pretty regularly
Absolutely! We want to take a look at what you can get today with today's money in today's market..... I also noticed the vast majority of F-Bodies are modified for straight line speed only but they honestly handle very well when equipped properly

More rear seat space in the bird than the subaru... but something to keep in mind is how much that bird cost when it was new... get yourself a dash - mat, it makes a big difference with glare on the windscreen
If I can find a classy dash mat that matches the car I will! I also plan on doing a clear UV front glass film to eliminate most of the UV damage. She also sits in a garage when I'm not driving it.

Hard to compare these two. I own a Firebird and its great but feels heavy to throw around in corners. I haven't driven the BRZ but if it drives like a rwd version of the late 90s/early 2000s sport compact cars then it would be a hoot.
The firehawk's MSRP in 2002 was $33,900, in today's money, it would be $63,000. I definitely agree, the rarity and cool factor is up there. I don't understand the comparison tho. These 2 cars were built for different purposes. I would love to watch a POV of a firehawk follow a BRZ in a touge. PS. Wait a year for the 2004 wrx sti for $32,000, 300hp 0-60 4.9sec. And good luck finding 1 for $30k with 30k miles.

The brz is like the miata or the mini. When your driving it , you feel like you are flying. In reality, they are pretty slow. Me and my wife always have a great time in my moms mazda , because it "feels" faster then my corvette. I really dont know how to explain that feeling.
I like both cars and use to own a SS Camaro 4th gen. Loved that car as it was so much fun to slide around. It also handled pretty good with some suspension mods. I still think the brz would crush it on track in the corners and have been thinking about picking one up. The brz can sound pretty good with some UEL headers and a catback. If I was to get another 4th gen it would have to be a super clean example with a hardtop and 6 speed. Stock form they handle like boats too so ide have to mod it right away.
Both nice cars but an unfair comparison. Let’s totally take handling out of the competition, the one thing the brz would dominate in and call the firehawk the winner? 0-60 isn’t the only thing that makes a sports car.
Because they have common sense. Turbo, and all the supporting parts to cover it under a factory warranty would ballon the costs to $45k+. At $45k, the interior of this car would not be okay. Many things about this car would not be okay. It just doesn’t make sense.
I absolutely agree, the Firehawk & COTA cars are probably the the least "value" oriented trims to buy, that's for sure! There are THOUSANDS of LS1 powered F-Bodies for super cheap.
Don’t do just the LMC truck or LED in stock style housing lights. They are bright but all oncoming traffic will hate you. You can build a projector setup or they have a kit now. Or the lazy eye kit is recent and getting more popular.
Pretty sure that's a Formula based Firehawk. I think they're pretty rare as most were T/A based Hawk. IDK for sure. I've owned Catfish, but never a Bird, even though my mom had a 99 Firebird V6 when I was in highschool. When talking GEN4 LS1 Firebirds, the Formula is the equivalent to the GEN4 Camaro Z/28, and the T/A is the equivalent to the GEN4 Camaro SS.
I owned a 02 firehawk that was delvered with the garbage tune after SLP was caught by govt for failing smog that everybody got but complained like crazy and finally an un named man dressed all in black ( No B.S.) showed up at my door . Explained the issue i was having after hitting WOT at 80 and the car bogging was due to the garbage tune put on the 02 Firehawk after the real one failed that was what SLP wanted for last F-body cars that was gona be a monster . He explained most owners didnt go WOT after loping along at 80 or notice tue issues because in other paramenters the tune was ok enough that people didnt know to complain but people who expected what Firehawks generally were and flogged them would . He then made me an offer . He said . If you dont ask for my Name or any other questions, ask for paperwork and agree i was never here i will take my laptop and put the original tune that SLP wanted on the final cars and not only will the bog going WOT at high speed go away but the car will perform better all around . Go in your house , wait 30 min , dont come outside or speak to me and make sure the rental car is gone and your car will now have all the power it was supposed to . Answer me quickly or i get in rental car and return to Detroit , was never here and you live with it . I said OK , followed his instructions and 30 min later took car out and got on it a bunch at higher speeds and it pulled hard and no more bogging and breaking up plus it pulled like a beast everywhere wanting to spin the big sticky Firestone Summer tires with awful treadwear while still scrambling forward and stuffing you in seat in a way our C5 didnt and nobody believed the car was stock . Firehawks were always underated and over performed as cars that SLP produced . The 02 with illegal factory tune was a beast of its time for what it was and considering the extra weight and more advanced set up of the corvette beat up on it in straightline and you need a 405 HP Z0-6 to go faster . They rated the Firehawk at 345 now that C5 was rated at 350 after initially being rated at 345 itself as GM Never liked an F - body with advertised figures above the Vette but if you had the intended tune this was well above 345 and i suspect making Z0-6 power at least or pretty close considering what it did to my stock C8 and others . In 02 the car was pretty mad for what was around for an NA car and nobody believed it was stock . With that said , its decades later so firehawk may have lost some of its fire but if this one runs well or was tweaked i cant see how it doesnt destroy the Subaru in a drag race . BRZ is a cool car I would enjoy but for simple straightline stuff the firehawk is gonna slaughter it if it has good tires and doesnt blow the tires off . 5-60 / 70 would be even worse . If its got the original garbage tune and not the black coat tune or some modern tuner didnt fix the EPA tune thrown on in hurry after caught and tired maybe its closer . But the puke tune was less noticeable at lower speeds so we will see but having owned a 02 Firehawk i know with the tune SLP designed for it , it was a beast that was not like a WS6 , SS or C5 and something like a Z06 , freakish for time and craziest car SLP did for F - BODIES with previous gens always being freaks as well but 02s were nuts if you got the right beeps and boops . But even with garbage tune should take the BRZ in acceleration test . Seems an odd match up .

My 01 T/A had to have an ENGINE REPLACEMENT IN 05 due to OVER BORED ODD CYLENDERS! Got a LS1 from 05 GTO, meaning 340HP, and 390FT pounds! 12.9 1/4 0-60 4.8! But 1 Gear basically went to 55 and shift made 60! .273 gears and AUTO! Intake Filter and RAM IAR MOD, with FLOWMASTER AND HYPERTECH PROGRAM! WHICH THE PROGRAM removes 1.2 SECOND OFF 1/4! 14.0 WITHOUT PROGRAM, 12.9 WITH PROGRAM!
I have absolutely no confidence in being able to buy a 2002 anything that's not got serious hidden problems. And given the age and behavior of the auto industry lately, I have even less confidence in being able to buy replacement parts when something goes wrong. Factor that into your comparison.

Due to gearing, the BRZ takes 3 gear changes to reach 60.
Unfortunately that is 100% correct.

the BRZ has no turbo, just a 2.4 litre NA boxer with high as fuck compression. have seen them do 0-60 in 5.3, and 13.8 quarter mile bone stock.
I get pesky little brz's that wanna race my 01 f body all the time. 😅 my best 0-60 was 4.51 but im not stock, and at the time had 2.73 rear gears

I have absolutely no confidence in being able to buy a 2002 anything that's not got serious hidden problems. And given the age and behavior of the auto industry lately, I have even less confidence in being able to buy replacement parts when something goes wrong. Factor that into your comparison.
