I'm a white belt and my teacher isn't even a black belt yet and rolling with him is like trying to roll with water. He so effortlessly avoids my attacks and just slides right through my defenses, and yet never goes for any submissions, just allows me to keep fighting for position.

@@sorrshotgaming2033 right? They let you work, leave openings for you to exploit, don't exploit openings in your defenses as fully as they could, give you time to escape submissions, all so you can learn, and the whole time you just know they're going easy on you. That's a good thing, because you wouldn't learn anything if they just steamrolled you all the time, but every so often they go just a little harder on you and you can just feel how massive the skill gap is.

I remember the first time one of my coaches, a black belt, gave me one of those rolls where he wasn't letting me work (I'm a white belt). I've never felt more helpless in my life. I think every single man (I say man because we tend to think we're pretty tough) should go to a BJJ gym and let a black belt put their hands on them. Of course a blue belt is gonna absolutely handle someone who has no clue what they're doing, but letting someone with the depth of knowledge and experience of a black belt really puts things in perspective.

If they where there slaping your face and challenging you to a fight, you can be sure they where doing because they thought you where good enough for the drill, so there is some respect at it. You know how easy Ryron can beat you? The same applies for 90% of black belts. He's a beast. When I used to train under Ryron, whenever we would participate in a tournament he would tap out his opponents using whatever technique we last practiced in class just to show us how it's done in real time. Amazing, and my god I miss those days. I wish I hadn't gotten so old and injury prone.

Just so easily and smoothly transitions with every movement Seth makes. When I first started watching and dabbling in MMA, I thought it was boring and a snoozefest when it comes to grappling and ground control... Once you start developing a very basic understanding of what's going on, it turns into the most exciting and fascinating part of MMA. Especially when you have two high level jujitsu guys in their element. It's like a high stakes chess match and they calculate every movement.

So much respect to Ryron. He's such a patient practitioner of BJJ that it's almost too easy to misunderstand him and what he's doing. So many folks think in terms of "points" and "submissions"....in other words "winning" and thus they struggle to appreciate the "survival" aspect of how Ryron trains and teaches. He's training and teaching for the world out there...where there are no judges counting points....and no clock on the wall where you have to reach a submission before time runs out. There's only a bad guy who has to be worn down and survived. In the contextual frame that Ryron teaches within, "not losing" is winning.

Started Gracie university online almost two years ago and then joined an accredited school, have to say, so glad to have this amazing instruction. Ryron and Rener’s videos are great, now w the new 2.0 videos even better. 100%x10 worth it. Appreciate all the effort they put into Gracie university online. Ready to shoot test videos almost for Combatives belt… as someone who started late in life, cool to be learning this great art.

You are great and humble. As a JJ guy I love your "what if all martial arts learned from each other" segmants 'you can't make me stand', they crack me up. Cool video, some of the Gracies are a little sus, but I like thise two brothers and the Valente brothers especially.

It is interesting when he's talking about energy usage.
I've been doing judo since I was 5 (now 38) and bjj for the last 2 years and I have been struggling with this. Whenever u come off the mat I feel like I have spent ev8bit of energy I have. It is my goal to work towards this skill.
