It's a great episode. Looking back on Primeval, it's remarkable how you could sit down on a Saturday night and see marauding dinosaurs, Connor's charming goofiness, Douglas Henshall and Juliet Aubrey putting in ferocious acting performances, humour, mystery , action, and the emotional gut-punch of things like Tom's death, all in 45 minutes.
Genuinely special show - and big up you guys for taking us back to it

When I revisitied this episode more recently, it definitely hit very differently. I always found it unsettling, but the whole aspect of a global pandemic AND conspiracy theorists becoming seen more dangerous than just "lol look at the weirdo over there" made it pretty rough.
Also yeah I also headcanoned that the parasite originated from the future, I feel like if they were native to Holocene Mauritius we'd have known something about them (unless history is already starting to change). :P

Always thought this was a bit of an odd one (not bad, just...odd), but Tom's death and the scene between Cutter and Connor afterward are genuinely great and the latter is one of my favorite scenes of the series.

Another great episode breakdown. I always remember this being the more terrifying and realistic one. Like the whole show felt more realistic than my main favourite show, Doctor Who, plus I'd seen Prehistoric Park when that aired, which had a not too massively different premise, whilst seeming very realistic because of the documentary style, but this episode of Primeval always felt like it could be real and there could be danger of this parasite irl.

I wonder if the parasites had any affect on the primeval timeline as likely all of the dodos were infected by it. As if the dodos went through another anomaly. I like to believe they went through an anomaly that lead to the Pre Cambrian period where they found natural food sources and they evolved into the fog worms

Very interesting idea. The Fog Worm spawn look very similar to the Parasite.

Something I think is really great about Abby and Connor's relationship in Series 1 is how Connor really puts the work into it. He makes a real effort to spend time with Abby and get to know her as a person, and thus they're able to build a really believable chemistry from very early on.
Stephen doesn't put in anything like the same amount of effort. He protects Abby when she's in danger, sure, but he never seems that interested in a relationship with her. When he does come around her flat in this episode, it is purely to inform her and Connor about a work-related issue. People talk about Connor's affections for Abby being very one-sided in Series 1, but the same is equally true of Abby's affections for Stephen, which is why I never got why people shipped Abby and Stephen as a couple back in 2007.

Wow, I never though about it like that since Connor is kinda creepy in Series 1 but you are right, he does get to know her unlike Stephen.

@@thegreatprimevalshow You are kind of right about the creepiness, but I feel that it stems from innocence rather than intent, since Connor clearly isn't that experienced with women.

@@thegreatprimevalshow Connor was never creepy. He was just awkward and shy. Still he was better looking than Stephen

At first I did shipped them for the first 4 episodes but then I realised that there was something happening with Connor and Abby after he moved in with her in episode 5. They were insulting each other and fighting like a married couple. I said after seeing that, forget Stephen. Go for the hot nerd brain box guy. Better chemistry between them two. 😂

I remember Lucy Brown and Hannah Spearritt saying this in an interview saying that they got up at 6am and the director said you are spending the morning chasing dodos. 😂 The ending of this episode was sad but it were Connor start to develop now.
