    Stephen's sacrifice rings a little hollow with the knowledge that Cutter will be killed off just 3 episodes later. Of course, that was mainly done because Douglas Henshall wanted to leave the show. Not sure if James Murray had any desires to leave the show, but if Henshall had told the producers about his desired departure earlier, perhaps they would have written it so Cutter was the one to sacrifice himself, and Stephen being left to lead the team in the foreseeable future, likely feeling tremendous guilt over Cutter's death and wanting to atone for falling for Helen's manipulation by finally stopping her.

      I think James Murray wanted to leave. I think he had problems going on in his life especially with his wife.

    Isn't it interesting how Stephen's story arc is in almost direct contrast to Connor's?
    He starts off as the golden boy in Series 1: Cutter’s best friend, Abby’s love interest, the action hero. But by the end of Series 2, largely through his own bad choices, he loses nearly all of those things, and dies a tragic lonely death as an outcast from the team. Meanwhile Connor goes on to become a more central member of the team and ultimately has a happy ending with the woman he loves.

      Oh damn this is a really interesting idea.

      For me as I see it Connors story ark was like Stephen story ark. After series 2 when Stephen die he became the golden boy. Became Cutter best friend, He was became more in love with Abby. Became the action hero. Then he started letting Philip Burton put Helen words in him to brainwash him with her voice inside Philip head just like Helen did with Stephen in series 2 and Connor was started to make bad choices like Stephen did and he started to deny that Abby was right and believe Philip over Abby. The woman he loves. In my opinion Connor started to become alot like Nick Cutter and Stephen inside him and probably a bit of Danny as well and we saw this in new world as well where he was acting like Nick and Stephen in that series.

    I think a really cool idea would be to do reviews of each season, both general and detailed thoughts on the plot, characters, timeline and see how you guys rank each primeval season.

    I don’t know what it was but his death always hunts me even though I was not a fan of Stephen. I remember when I watch series 3 I just came to terms with his death but then Cutter showed a flashback of it and I was like don’t show me that. 😂
    On to series 3. My favourite series of the show but we might have to wait till a couple of months for it like we did for series 2 after series 1.

    Yeah I definitely felt like Series 2 was a slight step down because it started the show's trajectory being less about the anomalies and Cutter's relationship with them and more action-y monster of the week stuff (which I think Henshall even said was part of why he decided it was time to leave).

    The last truly great season of Primeval and my personal favorite this episode in particular is incredible I can’t praise it enough it’s a shame the show went down hill beginning in season 3 which while still solid doesn’t hold a candle to seasons 1 and 2 I digress excellent review and I eagerly anticipate the Season 3 reviews whenever y’all get around to them👍.

      I disagree. This was not the last great series of Primeval and it never went downhill after series 2. It got better after series 2 and when Stephen die. Series 3 was the best one because he was not in it. Primeval got better every series.

      People who say oh it went downhill after series 2 and it the last great season of Primeval, you’re an idiot. Primeval was series where great to the end so shut up now.

      Series 1 was good, series 2 was my least favourite all because they made everyone a James Bond wannabe especially Stephen and to much action but series 2 did have the episode I find to be the best in the series and that episode 4. Series 3 is the best one because they took it back the way it was in series 1 and they stop making them being James Bond wannabes. Series 4 and 5 where amazing to and better than the 2nd one.

    I highly believe that the neural clamp comes from the future predator "army of the ARC" mentionned by Helen in s3, meaning they were probably made either by the ARC or by Johson in a timeline were she worked along the ARC.
    Where does the "1 year" gap between s2 and 3 comes from ? Is it specified in the following novel? 🤔

    I can understand why was removed from the DVD version I mean why bother with a re-cap when you could watch the previous episode straight away on the same set

    This definitely felt like the end of the show at its peak. I still enjoyed Season 3, even 4 and 5 to an extent (and...the less said about New World the better) but Stephens death really felt like it marked the end of an era, and was only compounded by...well, what would follow only a few episodes later.

    • @rtaylor7384
      @rtaylor7384 4 месяца назад

      No I disagree. I was not a fan of Stephen. For me after this, this is where the show really started and it gets better without Stephen. The start of a good era. I don’t know why people like Stephen anyway. Always annoy me with his stupid action hero ways, being a james bond wannabe. Alway got in the way of everything. I glad he was gone from the show. Series 3, 4 and 5 where amazing because he was not in them but that my opinion.

    • @rtaylor7384
      @rtaylor7384 4 месяца назад

      And anyway Stephen was not the marked of an era. He was not an important character anyway so I don’t know why people think that his death was an end of an era and why Primeval was at the end of it peck when he die. It just started it perk at series 3 after he die because he was not in the show anymore. Primeval got better without him.

    • @rtaylor7384
      @rtaylor7384 4 месяца назад

      This was definitely not a end of a era.

      Yup, the show really wasn't the same after Cutter's death and it truly started to suffer from various other actors becoming unavailable or wanting to leave down the line, forcing it to drop the ones we got invested in (both old and new) and keep introducing new ones; Jenny leaving, Danny taking a sudden leave of absence, the main villain getting an anti-climactic death, Sarah being unceremoniously killed off-screen, etc, basically having to reinvent itself twice unnplanned.
