Removing religion does very little on a small scale, but it drastically changes the world's machinations. One less point of contention to spark bloody wars or genocides.
@@lemagicbaguette1917 I disagree. While religious conviction can lead to organizations like Al-Qaida or wars like the Crusades, religion can also drive people to contribute to their communities, run charities, create a welcoming community for the lost and forsaken... Religion isn't just a catalyst for violence. I think people seeking worldly wealth and power are more to blame than religion itself.
@@lemagicbaguette1917The trope of religions causing wars is an outdated cliche. Majority of wars and the deadliest of wars were fought for secular reasons.
@@gamera5160 I do agree that religion facilitates good, but I believe it is not the only way, and frankly has too many downsides. The only reason I'd want religion gone is because of how it can become a matter of personal identity. Religion, despite its communal purpose, is very easily absorbed into someone's personality, and any dissidence can be viewed as a personal attack, zealot or not. Resentment is not outwardly expressed by most, but there are signs that it exists. Furthermore, the good brought by religion can be created from a philosophy detached from spiritual faith, such as the Art of War or chivalry. It is not as efficient, and I would never try to argue against that, but it is less risky. Such philosophies, not being spiritual, are much more difficult to absorb into one's being, acting more as a behavioural guide than an identity. One could even use the ethical conduct of a religion, such as Christianity, without the spiritual aspect to avoid personal assimilation and zealotry. Religion is usually used for good, and I appreciate its power as such, but the pain it can cause is only ever extreme. It's a double edged sword, one which can cut down barriers or entire peoples with no in-between, and the latter option is intolerable, in my opinion.
I feel like its a very complicated thing, because a lot of horrible people use religion as an excuse to harm people but there are also people who use religion to better themselves. So really its down to the person.
Let’s be real, religion isn’t actually the cause of all of that death. Religion is just a mask to justify conquest throughout history, it would of happened differently but still similar for some other stupid reason
There are certainly other ways to better one’s self too. Spirituality is separate from religion, and not nearly as dogmatic. Ideologically aligning yourself with a philosophical belief achieves the same concept, but without the idea of believing what we physically cannot prove involved. Religion has done so, so much more harm than good on a global scale, whereas atheism is simply a lack of belief and not an ideology itself, most atheists focus on science and knowledge (not all, but still) and make discoveries because of that, due to numerous religions banning anything that goes against a completely non-scientific religious scripture Even if I was religious, I’d still acknowledge all the historical damage it did and continues to do (free Palestine 🇵🇸)
I don't personally like people using these arguments to promote religion, as a devout Christian. If my beliefs are wrong, it doesn't matter whether they help me to better myself or not. They're false. I don't believe what I believe based on what helps me or makes me feel best, I believe what I believe based on what I think the facts indicate. I think that what I currently believe is the most logical conclusion, so I act accordingly. I prefer the people who call me dumb or who tell me I'm wrong, over the people who are like "well just believe whatever makes you happy". Cause the latter is just condescending. TL;DR - If my beliefs are incorrect, then I think they shouldn't exist. The world should not have any religion if there is no God.
@@table2.0 Well I'd say there's a difference between saying religion does damage, vs people do damage in the name of religion. Just like people do unethical damaging things in the name of science, but that doesn't mean science is unethical or damaging
If religion didn't exist, people that used religion as an excuse to do bad stuff will simply find a different excuse to do bad stuff. Many people that used religion as an excuse to be a better person will find a different reason to be better (hopefully) but there are also people that avoid bad stuff purely cause of fear of punishment after death, they no longer have that fear. but there are people that do good purely for the reward of heaven, they're no longer gonna do that. All things considered, some things might improve, other things might worsen, but overall our world will remain a bad place if religion disappears, nothing changes in the grand scheme of things, people will find different reasons to commit wars, cults might still exist but follow an ideology rather than a faith. We'd also have far less holidays and school breaks, and a 2-day weekend will be a much more recent invention, it might not even be invented as it's a religious thing of sorts.
Next on the chopping block: A world without War Essentially every global conflict boils down to a country having an elite sports team in every category in order to gain territory, land and rights from the other country doing the exact same thing

I just wanted to share a small experience concerning this topic. I was a Muslim by origin, but lately I've opened my eyes to agnosticism. I started to think objectively and compare both paths of life. Religion indeed gives a meaning to life and boosts the self esteem of a person. It helps us through hard times and makes us fight *uicidal thoughts. On the other hand agnosticism fosters reasoning and thinking outside the box. It promotes the acceptance of unjustified taboos, and tries to abolishe extremist behaviours. I don't want to be a complete atheist, nor want to be a blind religious person. Just a place in between where I could enjoy life, respect other beliefs, and stay in a safe zone😊. Show urself if u feel the same✌️
Agnosticism isn't partial Atheism. Agnostic is not Gnostic, this is the belief in God, Atheism is not Theism, this is the belief in Religion. You cannot be one and not the other. Both roads lead to Atheism. Agnosticism definitions usually state: "has doubts or denies the existence of God".

The only difference is that people wouldn't care about faith.

You have in your nature that there is a God for this universe. Do not laugh at yourself because you will die and be held accountable for your actions. Man knows God from the first human being on earth, the Prophet Adam. {And when your Lord said to the angels, "Indeed, I will place upon the earth a successive authority." They said, "Will You place upon it one who will cause corruption therein and shed blood, while we exalt You with praise and sanctify You?" Indeed, it is You who is the Knowing, the Wise."} {He said, "O Adam, inform them of their names." And when he had informed them of their names, He said, "Did I not tell you that I know the unseen [aspects] of the heavens and the earth and that I know what you reveal and what you have been concealing?"} {And [mention] when We said to the angels, "Prostrate to Adam," and they prostrated, except for Iblis.} my dad And he was arrogant and was among the disbelievers. And We said, “O Adam, dwell, you and your wife, in Paradise and eat from it in abundance as you wish, but do not approach this tree, lest you be among the wrongdoers.” But Satan caused them to slip therefrom and removed them from that in which they had been. And We said, “Descend, some of you an enemy to others. And for you upon the earth is a place of settlement and provision until the end of time.” {Then Adam received from his Lord [some] words, and He accepted his repentance. Indeed, it is He who is the Accepting of repentance, the Merciful.} {We said, "Descend from it, all of you. And if there comes to you guidance from Me - then whoever follows My guidance - there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve.} {And those who disbelieved and denied Our signs - those are the companions of the Fire; they will abide therein eternally.} }

I like how a world without religion would actually have scientifically advanced way faster, since back in the medieval ages all the scientific facts were met with death or exile
hm that actually makes some sense... but then again a lot of the time when people were burnt for beign a witch or whatever its not strictily a religious thing- its cultural to an extent as well
People back then weren’t met with exiled or death because of religion, people simply believed witches are real and evil, it had nothing to do with religion. Hell alot of famous inventors actually was motivated by their religion to make new stuff that contributed by alot to society
Is religion good or bad? The answer is complicated. On one hand, religion has the nasty tendency to distract us from the here-and-now, causing us to ignore personal morality, reason, or agency in the name of nebulous faith. On the other hand, religion can soothe existential angst, offer cohesion to a community, and provide a helpful philosophical framework with which to live. Personally, I consider religion to work best when it's taught as theological theory and not imposed as absolute truth. There is real wisdom to be found in the ideas of spiritual figures like Jesus, Buddha, or Muhammed, and practices like meditation, prayer, or confession have proven beneficial to one's psychological wellbeing when properly implemented. As with all things, the problem isn't with the ideas, but how people abuse those ideas for power. Religion didn't cause the crusades: the church did.
Jesus literarly stated he was God, he said it was a fact (and was correct), Muhammad used being a prophet to have 7 more wives than a Muslim is allowed (one of them was six), I don't know anything about Buddha but the first two were talking as If they are using facts (one was facting), also religion dosen't distract from the Here and now, that's why the catholic church was the largest contributor to dcinence in the middle ages, also they didn't punish people because they were scienctests, for example Galileo, the Guy who became Pope supported Galileo's theory but told him to Not state it as fact in His books because they May come a better explanation (He was right), then Galileo wrote a dialouge and Made the dumb character say those exact Same Words so the Pope used his scientific Research as a way to legally Put him in jail, the chatholic church was and still is the largest charity Organisation. Also most of the wars were political wars in religous clothes, except the Muslim Jihads (btw the crusades were repons to the Muslim invasions). Also the crusades killed less people than the Vietnam war

I know so many folks who could've worst had they not be religious because the know that a God is watching them and they'll be held accountable for their actions (im a muslim and this is how we belief) a con on the other hand is how people especially the ones in power use religion as a tool to get what they want. Manipulating naive people who follow religion blindly is a lot easier 🤷🏻♀️

@SaraHeartlin As a physics major that's just completely wrong, the Islamic caliphates saved classical knowledge from the wars ravaging Europe and built upon Math and Medicine. Isaac Newton developed Calculus, the foundation of physics at a university founded by a bishop, and was fervently religious to boot. Gregor Mendel developed gene theory in a monastery. The Big Bang theory was proposed by a Catholic priest.
In a world without religion... people would have to find new excuses to discriminate others, to justify wars and to scam people from their money. But that wouldn't take very long. On the other hand, they'd also need to come up with new ways to give hope to the hopeless. That could be a lot harder, but it would also be more honest and therefore maybe more enduring and lasting. I'd say I'd be worth a try.
World without religion won’t be as good as you think. After all most moral rules started out as religious rules. for example not killing, not stealing, monogamy, value of peace, I know that it might seem strange but progress, the idea of equality, the idea of fairness, and the idea of enforcing moral values (no hell, no need to prevent people from crime). Without religion we would still be caveman living in a society ruled by the rule of the strongest and attacked by wild animals (humanity prevailed because Homo sapiens started uniting against other human species and wild animals. Humanity started uniting because it became possible to thrust people without having personal connections to them. Trusting people you don’t know became possible because people started believing in jointed dieties and thus common moral values created and enforced by the religions of these dieties.)

It’s amusing, but I doubt people are going to stop being jerks because religion is gone. It’s not like adhering to secular political ideologies and philosophies always results in more well behaved considerate people.
It's not like ANYTHING stops people from just being ahholes tbh
Religion has done so, so much more harm than good on a global scale, whereas atheism is simply a lack of belief and not an ideology itself, most atheists focus on science and knowledge (not all, but still) and make discoveries because of that, due to numerous religions banning anything that goes against a completely non-scientific religious scripture
Even if I was religious, I’d still acknowledge all the historical damage it did and continues to do (free Palestine 🇵🇸)
Many people that used religion as an excuse to be a better person will find a different reason to be better (hopefully)
but there are also people that avoid bad stuff purely cause of fear of punishment after death, they no longer have that fear.
but there are people that do good purely for the reward of heaven, they're no longer gonna do that.

You have in your nature that there is a God for this universe. Do not laugh at yourself because you will die and be held accountable for your actions.
Man knows God from the first human being on earth, the Prophet Adam. {And when your Lord said to the angels, "Indeed, I will place upon the earth a successive authority." They said, "Will You place upon it one who will cause corruption therein and shed blood, while we exalt You with praise and sanctify You?" He said, "Indeed, I know that which you do not know."} {And He taught Adam the names - all of them. Then He showed them to the angels and said, "Inform Me of the names of these, if you should be truthful."} {They said, "Glory be to You! We have no knowledge except what You have taught us. Indeed, it is You who is the Knowing, the Wise."} {He said, "O Adam, inform them of their names." And when he had informed them of their names, He said, "Did I not tell you that I know the unseen [aspects] of the heavens and the earth and that I know what you reveal and what you have been concealing?"} {And [mention] when We said to the angels, "Prostrate to Adam," and they prostrated, except for Iblis.} my dad And he was arrogant and was among the disbelievers. And We said, “O Adam, dwell, you and your wife, in Paradise and eat from it in abundance as you wish, but do not approach this tree, lest you be among the wrongdoers.” But Satan caused them to slip therefrom and removed them from that in which they had been. And We said, “Descend, some of you an enemy to others. And for you upon the earth is a place of settlement and provision until the end of time.” {Then Adam received from his Lord [some] words, and He accepted his repentance. Indeed, it is He who is the Accepting of repentance, the Merciful.} {We said, "Descend from it, all of you. And if there comes to you guidance from Me - then whoever follows My guidance - there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve.} {And those who disbelieved and denied Our signs - those are the companions of the Fire; they will abide therein eternally.} }

People back then weren’t met with exiled or death because of religion, people simply believed witches are real and evil, it had nothing to do with religion. Hell alot of famous inventors actually was motivated by their religion to make new stuff that contributed by alot to society
Yh but not exactly religion was crucial at the early civilisation because the ones above couldn’t control the masses
That’s pretty far from the truth bro lol

This is truly a great video, man. As a religious person myself, I actually understood the advantages we could make if we didn't take too seriously on religion and try to get along with each other despite our differing beliefs.

As a religious person i think one of the pros of religion is it gives people a sense of purpose and puts them in their place.
True religion is a way of life
i’m muslim as well and agree. like our religion teaches us so many good things but then you see people manipulate the words that were sent to us (as humans not just muslims) and manipulate others and boom endless hate.

@@juussivePalateBrother By that logic, I can showcase every atheist as a braindead mob cause they protest while hearing a misinformation from X (London Lmao)
@@juussivePalateNot that atheist states do any better; Khmer Rouge, North Korea, the Soviet Union, and China all come to mind. You guys killed a lot of people too. Any organization with that much size and power has the potential for extreme violence, but with this influence and power also comes potential for kindness and knowledge - which religion has more than equally fulfilled.
A world run by r/atheism mods would NOT be this good dude 💀

A world without religion including atheism would mean that there would be no wars about religion and any sort of stuff, and about morals, humans would develop morals in different ways, and really, the world's history would be very different.
@@Justanarsenicatom No, we would not. You cannot expect human beings to be good just for the sake of it. You would just have a society of judge holdens that dont fear death. There is a reason why most serial killers are atheist.
@@nevenneven8159the thing is, what I'm saying is that humans would find an else way to get morals, ofc it wouldn't be easy and not simple, but what I'm saying you completely avoided and assumed I thought it would be easy, humans take time to agree on stuff and generally they would eventually find a way to get morals, also the serial killer part is completely irrelevant, since laws do not use religious morals to judge, morals aren't just something carried by religion.

religion fosters culture, science creates technology. So it kinda make sense that in a world without religion, people just find other justification for the things they do. Good vid.
in history religion oppressed science. so a world whitout it will be even more advanced than that in where whe are living.
@@HexDrone9637Advanced but the world will be also harsh. The basic concepts of things like the golden rule won't even exist.
The Big Bang theory was proposed by a Catholic priest.

forcing religion on children is something im not really okay with
You can say forcing any ideology on kids is bad, hell in those times you easier brainwash people with social media or tik tok than going to the church
