    Okay so now they just need to fix the Two Finger gesture for the note-taking app. I may have to retire the "Gesture Hammer" sooner than expected. Oh and loving the new powers, lol. Keep up the great work!

      Thanks for the comment. I would hate for you to have to retire the hammer, maybe it can be repurposed for something else? As for incorporating video after the fact, I am definitely not the best at all of that. You, @kitbetts-masters, and @vladkostek do that very well. Your Kung Fu is strong.

    New faculty orientation...did you recently start a new job? If so, congrats! I have new faculty orientation next month! Thanks for the videos and updates :) I was holding off on buying my first e-ink device for the A5X2 but just cracked last week and bought a Go 10.3 😑

      Thanks for comment and question. Well, there are a few things to unpack here. When I mentioned new faculty orientation, i was talking about my role at Valpo. We conduct orientation for all new faculty each year. However, with the split of IUPUI into an IU and Purdue side, I did have to do orientation for teaching at both universities now. Again, thanks of the question, and probably more information than you wanted. Congratulations on your new role!

    Thanks for this post, as I've been researching the Supernote and deciding whether to get a device. The nomad version might be a bit too small for me so I am curious about the release date of A5X2 in Australia. I am also assessing whether I should get A6X2 or wait for A5X2.

  • @bruceclovis
    @bruceclovis 24 дня назад

    Thank you for going through this.
    I note the hardware roadmap has recently been updated to suggest the new A5X2 device may be available in September 2024. My interpretation of the same roadmap also suggests the A4 X2 is in the pre-research phase with a Time to Market in 2024-Q4. That would be wonderful Ratta can have three different e-Ink devices to choose from in 2024.

      Thanks for the comment and support. I am not sure how realistic the A4X2 is in 2024, but we can hope.

    • @bruceclovis
      @bruceclovis 22 дня назад

      We can hope. If they do announce the A5X2 in September, I hope they can make some announcement about their plans/hopes for the release of the A4X2, even if it is to say it will be delayed to … whatever date they think they can have it. If they don’t make some announcement, some potential customers will see the schedule as it is now and think “I have already waited an extra quarter for the A5X2, I can wait another quarter for the Supernote in the larger size I would actually prefer.

  • @fcf8269

    Also "begin production" means the factories in China will start to make the devices; so count at least another month or 2 before the devices will be available to all. It is not like the factories will make more than 50-100 units a week, so add at least few weeks to pack and ship those and you end up with a street date for the A5X2 probably around October-November. Then of course some people will get it earlier, as usual, for reviews.
    The A4X2 is still in pre-research phase... Not sure how it is even feasible to see it shipped few months later if they had so many issues to ship the A5X2 after shipping the A6X2.But we will see

    • @Change-1820
      @Change-1820  24 дня назад +1

      Thanks for the comment and sharing your perspective. You could be right, but the term used was mass production so I think that may have a different meaning. Also, I tried to be clear that the hopes for an A4X2 this year could just be wishful thinking. We will see what they have going on. I am hopeful the delay was to work out some of the supply chain and sourcing issues. I appreciate you contributing.

      @@Change-1820 I hope we are all wrong and that the device will just appear; but history demonstrated that sadly for such small companies, produce at a large volume it is a challenge already for one device (look at Remarkable 2)... And here we are talking of 3 devices if you count the Nomad and the A5X2 plus the A4X2.
      They made a similar assumption last year when they hoped to push both A5X2 and A6X2 together in the same quarter, and then get the A4X2 at the end of the year, and you saw how it panned out. I would not put my hopes too high but wishing cost nothing :)

      Unless you are alright with graphic novels in Black and White, I am not sure Supernote would be the right device for you. Sketching is great, but again black and white. Sideloading reading apps works well on the A6X2. If you are looking for a full Android experience or will be working in low light though, you probably need something different.

    I never expected the A4X2 to appear this year... so now have a dilemma, do I go for the A5X2 or wait for the A4X2? I think it'll depend on if the A4X2 has a split screen mode!

      Karl, as always appreciate your comments. I would say that there is a strong possibility that the A4X2 will be moved into next year, but my optimistic side was showing a little in the video. Also, it would be a really boss move in the marketplace for Supernote to flood the market with a new device and new form factor at the end of the year.

      If the A4X2 has a split screen mode it'll be my end goal for study, else I might purchase the A5X2 while holding onto my A5X and rig-up a leather cover to hold both, and make-up a _'pseudo A4 split screen mode'_ of my own.

      The sync issue is ongoing. At least it usually just adds a conflict file and keeps the current version in the non-conflict file. Also, it only seems to happen from the A6X2 to the A5X and not in reverse. I know Ratta is working on it but understand your frustration.

    I ONLY use the region select - once they added the trash option to the selection, I quit using the region eraser altogether.

      @Change-1820  24 дня назад

      Thanks for sharing this perspective, I wondered how many people might do that. Unfortunately, I think you lose something by going that route. The region eraser also acts like a scribble eraser and you do not have to be as precise to get everything in the selection box. You could also go across multiple lines with it. However, the convenience of having only one tool has it's value as well. I feel a quick short coming on :-). Thanks again for joining the conversation.

    The web interface BTW has nothing to do with the app on windows or mac and the device; they are totally different systems written in different ways, so the look is totally irrelevant. Most likely they will rewrite the UI on the web once they settle with what look and feel they want to use and uniform everything when the A5X2 is out. Takes 5 minutes to push an update on a web app, compared to an update on an app on a phone or a computer after all

    • @Change-1820
      @Change-1820  24 дня назад +1

      I would disagree that these are not connected. While you are right that they are coded differently and the user interface is different, it doesn't have to be. The cloud infrastructure is being used to share information about ToDo tasks and files back and forth between the devices and the various apps. Not being able to visualize that on the cloud is a little strange. That is like saying that using Google on the web should not have the same functions as your phone or the desktop app. They can look different (although consistency is always better), but functions should not be missing. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

      @@Change-1820 On the cloud you save data as JSON for example; this is not how it is saved on the device. You can check in the app and see that the documents there are saved as SQlite format. That is the beauty of web programming: it is just some CSS with a bunch of graphics that can be re-organized pretty easily (if you use NodeJS there are a ton of frameworks that make a UI in 10 minutes top); so as long as you have the data in a format, you can convert it in whatever format is more useful to you and then show it on the web interface. That is how MVC architecture works for most part, and the reason why web development is very fast and iterative, as you can change things in a snap.
      The transferring of the data between devices is handled by APIs and protocols that most likely are the usual ones (the same ones used to move data for example when you save or load files from their server); there is nothing to change there, just to add what is already there to the web UI.
      I think they didn't pay much care about the web part because not that many people use that... I am sure they have data regarding web traffic, and if they invested more time in making the app for the phones/tablets and computer OS, clearly that is because more people use these devices, compared to the web interface. Eventually they will unify everything, I would not be concerned at this point to be honest, but your point is a legit point, if you are looking at it from the perspective of the final user.

      @@fcf8269 I do understand how the information flows and appreciate this detailed explanation. The issue is that the apps are fairly new (except for the mobile app) and the cloud has been around a lot longer. I think from the user perspective, it muddies the waters. It would be like outlook showing tasks in the desktop app, but not Outlook on the web. Thanks again for this back and forth.

    • @fcf8269
      @fcf8269 23 дня назад

      @@Change-1820 Keep in mind that "the cloud" is a carpet term. There are at least hundreds of ways to skin a cat, so to speak, and every year an average web developer is exposed to dozens of new frameworks and ways to do the same thing :)
      Which in few words translate in a high speed in how things develop. The apps are indeed new, although the "way" in which they talk is the same SOAP and ROAP architecture we have been using for ages. Hence, it is predictable to make changes, as long as you know the "what" has to be exchanged as information, and the "language" used for the transfer protocol/framework/APIs; which is what changes often.
      I may be wrong, mind you; I've been riding this bull for 30+ years in silicon valley, and during this time I saw more mistakes than things right, so I tend to see the patterns at that point.
      Your example of outlook is a great one; just a note: Outlook is very tightly coupled with the web version, being a mail client; so it must be 1:1 with the desktop client as much as possible (same apply for Apple iCloud services if you look at it); but these are shipped services used by a lot of people :) the scale and reach are totally different, and if the clients are different for a while, as they sort things out, it is not the end of the world.
      Thank you for the engaging conversation

      @@fcf8269 there's no reason why the web interface has to be different from the desktop apps and with cross platform GUI kits, they don't need to even be written in completely different ways.
      Their desktop apps are using Flutter which also supports web, so they could take that approach, although I understand Flutter is still maturing their web support. If they had gone with Electron or something similar (Tauri, Wails) then they could easily achieve a uniform look on desktop and web.

      Thanks for the comment and I appreciate the perspective, but I love my Supernote and have had it over three years. I had an iPad years ago and they are great devices, but much more than I need. This discussion is about more than just having a device (that is way less than the Apple price). I don't want something that I can do all of the same things on my computer with, otherwise, I would be looking at Boox or another e-ink provider. I think Supernote has done a great job of balancing productivity and function. To me, this is about continuous improvement. Thanks for joining the conversation.
