our girls are going on 14 still up and playing and they are truly a great breed love them and respect them im truly blessed to enjoy them i never fear for my family they are the reason
Great overview, Will. Our years in Mastiff Rescue were incredible, and I still love them dearly. I'm working with a rescue Dutch Shepherd right now, and he doesn't leave me any time. But English Mastiffs are one of my favorite breeds.
Maggie, out English Mastiff is 9 1/2 months old & hitting 110lbs. She is a treat & a blessing. I'd highly recommend one if you have a love of drool & huge hugs.
I have two females ones 110 at 9 months the other 105 litter mates and I can truly say they are an amazing breed. Ducky and peachey are their names. I'll never get another breed after these.
Our Mastiff was the best family dog we could have asked for. She was good at sizing up people and never over reacted to any one. She was so sweet but I knew we were safe with her keeping an eye on us.
I bought one after watching your other videos, and can’t thank you enough. Got him when he was seven weeks old, and he is a little over three now. Best friend I’ve ever had, and the best guard dog. He has exceeded all my expectations on every level. Bless you. 7:25
Love my 200 pound English mastiff, Zakk Wild ❤ he’s by the far the most loving, sweetest, goofiest pup in the entire world. He also is always making sure we are safe when we are outside. His bark is scary enough, I’m afraid to see what would happen if someone actually wanted to hurt us. If you’re thinking about getting one, keep in mind that they’re a mess. Sheer size will have him spilling things, knocking things over with their tails and accidentally stomping on your feet, leaving you with black and blues lol. It is all worth it though!! Zakk is our fourth child
Dam i came here cause I literally saw a mountain lion in someone's backyard through a diamond shaped metal fence i was riding my bike down a park trail an that house was connected to the park trail as i was passing by i thought I saw a English mastiff first staring at me but it wasn't barking and then the ears were pointy so i thought they were clipped but then i saw the tail and it was down to the ground and a little longer and dam they're just as big as these dogs crazy and they also have a mask looking face like these dogs and raccoons but unlike these dogs there faces are smooshed in from the side and the mountain lions hind legs are round shaped like a horse and square shaped like a dog.
I have raised a perfect gentleman with exercise, obedience and lots of love. I also love the breed so much I’ve rescued a female and have applied same training and she is now 2 1/2 years at 150lbs and goes by sign language when I give her directions. Our local Lowes employees has enjoyed Teaspoon learn and grow and very happy to be part of her trading just in giving her a snack when they ask her to set. She is very familiar with all noises and machines they use to do their job. They are truly intelligent and know when trined by sign language they are fast learners cause they know a snack is coming.
I love my mastiffs! All of them. Each has its own personality almost human ! They are like children in 20 years of keeping them I can say they are awesome but not for everyone. They need lots of attention and positive enforcement of rules. On flip side not much walking is needed the best if you have a yard where they can exercise as little or as much as they want. I wouldn`t say they are slow witted, they just don`t care for training , they know very well what you expect of them but always question. Mastiffs need time to make up their mind about doing something, usually just look at you with expression: " And why would I want to do that?" And if they are against or not in the mood of something they will not participate, just lay down and resist. My first Mastiff had always the worst results in training school , but when last exam came he was first to finish obstacle trail and won the entire competition. Everyone was stunned that Maxi took all trophies and ribbons. Something about competing sparked his interest and motivated him to win. He also broke podium that collapsed under his weight.
i have had 3 mastiffs. most of what you say is true. however, the dogs i have had have always been very friendly towards just about everyone. They protect you always, but they tend to do so in very subtle, gentle ways. They are as nice as they can be, but as mean as they have to be. If a toddler were to wander on my property, by mastiff would likely lick it and try and play. if a bandit were to break into my house or threaten my family.... well... its going to be a very, very bad day for that guy.
Love these dogs. They're an enormous pita as pups to adolescence. Easy to train. Once you assert yourself as the alpha, they'll listen to you and become extreme protective of you, your loved ones, other pups and property. They hate stanger dogs that approach you and will launch at them. Love the one I have
I love wills videos I’ve been watching for a long time and I’ve bred English mastiff’s for years and I just think will downplays the English mastiff when describing handling business they handle it and it can get vicious
My brother had one when we were growing up. He was the sweetest dog to family, but with visitors he got defensive. It was kinda funny because he loved women no problem, but men we would have to put him in the back yard.
I am about to get an English mastiff in a few days. Already paid the breeder and have 2 dogs reserved. I'm only taking one of them but haven't decided between the male and female. I currently have a 7 year old female great pyrenese, recently lot our 8 year old male pyrenese to cancer.
I've been lucky enough to have had 4 mastiffs , 2 Bullmastiffs 1 female and 1 unbelievable male also a beautiful female English mastiff Ruby who we lost at 11 years old last year, we now have a De Bordeaux who is the funniest dog I have ever seen . The one thing you did not mention which can be a real concern is if you need to take them to the vet and they are unable to walk it is very, very difficult to get them in the car . Ruby weighed 90 kg so it was almost impossible to lift her
I love the idea of the English Mastiff, sounds like the perfect dog for me, protective, not overly active, short coat….but the drool, I just wouldn’t e able to handle the drool. Any suggestions on a breed with all the above traits, but without the drool?
There is a mastiff breaker in nova scotia Canada wich is were I got my Xander who I'd 170lbs one year old and amazing super healthy and my breeder takes it very seriously and has been breeding nastiffs for over 20 years very important to be very picky when getting a mastiff do your research on the health of the dogs from the broader ore the dog will prob not live long
@@jamielavallie4182 cheers dude, but NS is quite a way from me in the UK! We've ended up rehoming an 18 month old girl. She's lovely. Can't fault the breed. 😁
the heart of a true gentleman indeed, a gentlemen who will live for 6 years and barely runs faster than a slug, I love the dogs, but man so many dog breeds have been ruined by these dog breeders who just breed for size and power, look at iranian sarabis massive dogs that can live for 17 years, that is a dog
I've been wondering I live in an apartment and I've always grown up with dogs and cats. Right now my mom and I on three cats and I've been thinking about getting a dog a few friends have suggested we get a mastiff some suggested a bullmastiff and others a French Mastiff. My question is do you think they'd be good for apartments and what they be okay with cats as well?
Being a stereo typical American I have no understanding of the metric system so I asked Google how many pounds 156 kilos is and I don't know if I believe it. Please, someone who is uber smart and good at converting between the metric and the imperial measurement systems tell me if this is correct. Google says 156 kilos = 343.921 lbs. First of all, if this is correct, then holy cow!! That's a huge dog! Second of all, I had no idea a dog could be that heavy. Like, physically get that huge without it's skeletal system being crushed under it's own weight and/or it's heart giving out. The largest I've ever heard of a dog getting, while still being healthy and functional, is around 200 lbs for some of the larger mastiff breeds and certain livestock guardian breeds.
There were giant dogs like english mastiffs, st bernards, and newfoundlands that got over 300lbs, but for large dogs like that 180-200 is more towards the typical high end, but I have a st bernard that is projected to be 245lbs, which is what I weigh.
No they are not. Tibetan Mastiffs averages 220 lbs and can get up to a healthy 240. these are massive dogs that resemble lions. Boerboels are also extremely large breeds reaching over 200 pounds.
@@spotsandstripes2 I know they’re short lived. But i wanted to know is they suffer for long period? Because i love gentle giant's like English Mastiff, BMD, Newfoundland and Saint Bernerd. But it will be very painful for me to see my dog suffer from a disease for longer period. I'm afraid of it 😢
I think it's important to have such a bond with your dog that you feel when they're suffering. I lost my last Mastiff just shy of 11 years. She had been giving me cues for about a year that the end was near and once she got to the point she was no longer eating or drinking and had stopped obeying commands, I knew it was time. I was so devastated, it took several years for me to be able to get another EM puppy.
Hi my xander is 1 year old over 170 lbs and amazing i will say from our experience you were a little lite on just how protective they are of mom i am def his human but she is def who he is protecting most we take our xander every where and he is very freindly but he never takes his eyes off his mother and anytimw there is a male around her at all he wont leave her side we cant wven have sex with him in the room ore he pins me down for touching my wife
What’s the problem with pushing a breed that is vulnerable (less than 200 registered per year) I love everything about the breed except the drooling and eventually when I do end up getting one the drooling is the only thing about them that will take me a while to get used to. Everything else about them matches up perfectly with my lifestyle.
As a dog trainer and behaviorist for 38 years. What he is saying about Mastiffs is not correct. The English Mastiff is very sweet loving animal. If you socialize them like any other dog they make great family dogs and are great in public. I use to take my Mastiff Fiona to second grade classes because in the second grade they read a book called Henry and Mudge. So we would go to let the kids meet a real Mudge and we would teach dog safety. Fiona was one of the best dogs I’ve ever had and I have had a lot of dogs. I would take her to restaurants and as we got up to leave people would say “OMG, I didn’t know you had a dog over there. I tell people a Mastiff is a giant throw rug, she swam like an alligator, so smoothly there was barely a ripple. She loved swimming. Before I taught her to swim I heard Mastiff can’t swim, well Fiona made a liar out of them. The only downside to owning a Mastiff is you will be stopped everywhere you go. I knew how celebrities felt. We would literally discuss if we are in the mood to deal with people’s magnetism to her. We went to a biker festival one time and we did not move for a half an hour because as soon as people left us more would come up and you hear the same thing over and over again, we thought about getting her a vest that said no I’m not a boy, my name is Fiona, I’m a English Mastiff, I weigh 150lbs, no I’m not walking my mom. Same questions over and over again. Like any breed, do your homework find a good breeder, ask to meet the parents, check out the other dogs they have and make sure all the dogs are social. This applies to every dog you get. Aggressive behavior can be a genetic trait, that’s why you want to meet the parents. I spent 3 hours two different visits with Fiona’s breeder and parents. Mastiff is a great dog.
So since I'm a english lad will he sit and have a pint of larger and some pork scratching since where both english and thats are culture where do I get one 🤔

6 years at minimum. Though 8-10 is more likely, it is still too short of a lifespan for such a sweet and loving as well as courageous dog
The biggest sweeties

Our French Mastiff is essentially a fat, 15-year old house cat in dog form.
Is puppy in a sit and stay or is that a statue

It's breathing (you can see its stomach going in and out) so I would say so.
