Options: a) They weren't smart enough to even recognize the obvious Russian talking points - not likely since they've been spouting them before the contact. b) They wanted the money so didn't bother to vet their benefactors. c) They knew and either didn't care or agreed. None of these are excuses and any one of them being true means they damn well don't deserve to be seen as reliable sources of commentary.
