EXACTLY!! It’s my opinion that as citizens, we have a duty to our country to protect our democracy and ensure our government operates in the interests of the citizens. We have gotten to a point in time where the lives of people in general are fast paced, busy and cluttered. Im sure many would agree downtime is precious especially you have a family. Finding time to keep up with global and local news is difficult but we need to at least try do some research on our candidates and government as a whole. Even if it’s just to look through party policies and voting trends within the parties, this can at least give us some idea as to where they stand and whether it is for the good of the people.

Most liberal democrats are not wealthy people, but ordinary everyday working people who want to make the world a better place and promote the prosperity of working people instead of promoting more wealth for those who are very wealthy. It is true that too many leaders in high levels of the democratic party seem to have the attitude that they can ignore the economic struggles of the working class, while supporting those who seek social justice on other issues of social justice. But time and time again, the outcome shows that the democratic leaders need to put first and foremost actual policies that promote the prosperity of working people. We need them to return to the New Deal type of democratic thinking, and leave many neoliberal tendencies behind. That is the real path to electoral victory and ultimately the success of all of the other social justice movements. After-all most people in those other social justice movements are also in the working class.

I really related to your story about being in a shelter, I was in a shelter at age 21 with my son, he actually turned 2 in the shelter. I experienced the same judgement from staff, curfews and extremely strict rules. One night a few of the girls and I had been bonding, having a really good time in one of their rooms when a staff member told us at 10pm it was time for bed and get back to our rooms. As we all dispersed, I sarcastically and playfully said, “hey, I’m 21 years old, you can’t tell me what to do”, I was smiling and the girls were laughing and we went to bed. The next morning I was told to see the director. She told me that night staff had complained about my disobedience and what I had said the night before and that this staff member was terrified. I was in disbelief and she was angry and wouldn’t hear anything I said in my defence. She ordered that I collect my things and leave. I was in a shelter, I just left my abusive boyfriend with a small child, she said immediately! Its interesting we had similar experience with the treatment during such a difficult time in our lives. I like the idea of adapting to get through and that’s where you’ve built strength, rather than it being the experience itself. The strength is in finding that fight inside yourself, figuring out your new environment and not just cope but navigate through even with all the obstacles of mental health. Doing what we can do in the moment kind of takes away the pressure of action, believing that we must solve all the problems in one moment, being gentle with ourselves and others, that’s a good approach.

I'll try to be sincere. Just an observation; you have every opportunity to NOT be at rock bottom, but through a series of poor choices and failures to create lasting relationships, you find yourself at rock bottom. Easily fixable with some humility and some elbow grease, easily addressed if you ditch the pity party, the entitlement, the victim mentality. I believe your plight is real, but instead of rolling up your sleeves and getting to work like the rest of us, you're screaming at the clouds and lapping up the sympathy; hence why you keep finding yourself at rock bottom over and over. I've been at rock bottom, I've been homeless, I've had a mental health crisis or two, and I can relate to what you're going through. A bit of advice, adult the f up, take some responsibility for your life, stop looking for handouts and relying on the government to fix your problems, and create a social network of friends and family that has your back for when times get rough. Great way to react. I listened to the song "Need Her Love" by the Main Ingredient (my favorite singer ever, Don McPherson, sang on it) and the beginning where it's all vocalizing with the lyrics "Silence Is Cold / New Days Are Old / Clouds Hide My Sun / Gone is my fun" brought me to tears and I proceeded to cry for almost two hours, but it really helped.

We all know Conservatives are winning the next election...but I don't see the signs that Canada is full fascist and is potentially turning into a pseudo dictatorship like I do with the U.S. When Pierre wins things will just get worse faster rather than getting worse slower like its been under the Liberals. Progressives on youtube have been saying that Liberalism is dead and we've seen it repeated around the globe as fascism rises in its place. I'm starting to think there's something to this. Canadian Liberals aren't about to go full on progressive in just one year...that just doesn't seem to be reality. I cling on to the hope that Conservatives stomp Liberals so bad that NDP rises up as the official opposition and takes power in 8+ years when Canadians as a whole need a chance from Conservatives making their lives worse.

the undergraduate student association at uwaterloo (WUSA) recently conducted a referendum asking students if the university of waterloo should sever its partnership with technion-israel institute of technology. out of around 20% of undergrad students who voted, an overwhelming 84% of students voted yes to sever ties with technion. it's not certain if this will actually prompt the unversity admin or vivek goel (genocide goel as we like to call him) to take action against israeli institutions, but hopefully some change can come about.
