I love em all but Yang got my heart. She go through it and got them hands too. When Ruby is not confused, she really can do damage. Blake has so much going on with her that I need to rewatch everything and Weiss or Weiss (not sure how to spell it), she is literally the coldest of the group but it takes a awhile to warm up to her. All of them got hands and the other groups too. Don't sleep on them either. All of them are still learning and later on they become potent. Especially when Crow enters the picture

i remember when they were dropping these trailers, i was getting more and more hyped from each one, and to this day rwby is still one of my favorite series, plus the soundtrack by jeff and casey lee williams is incredible
Welcome to the RWBY party! Just a couple things from your commentary. Yang, as well Ruby can't really 'jump' like they did in the trailers without the use of their weapons. If you go back and listen closely, they fire their weapons as a means of propelling themselves up, forward, or back. Ie... like with Yang jumping to take out the DJ Bear. Secondly, the majority of characters are based off of both fairy tale, and literary characters. Ruby is Little Red Riding Hood (who in the trailer fought a boatload of 'big bad wolves'), Weiss Schnee in German means White Snow (or Snow White) and her song Mirror (Mirror mirror on the wall, who is the loneliest of all). Blake who you correctly noted has cat ears and eyes is based off Beauty and the Beast while Yang is Goldilocks. If you continue deeper into the series look for characters, especially regular characters, and their names or attributes to guess whom they are based off of.

And to just casually confirm he was right about the cat ears instead of pointing out that it's a bow and letting him be surprised by the huge plot twist in this volume is messed up.

As someone that started back in 2012 and loved watching the show evolve over the years; its always fun seeing others dipping in xD Blake and Yang are def my favs w/ Yang being it from the start and Blake post-seeing her story and development over the volumes thus far. - Since its not really stated directly only alluded to: Blake cut the train after Adam's handwaving of the train passengers, so she did that both to get away from him but also to save the passengers. - The weapons are almost always "and a gun" xD - The animation steadily grows as the show progresses - The music & score are original by the one and only Williams' (Jeff and his daughter Casey)

I've never had an issue with the animation but I know others do, but regardless it does continue to get better. Especially since they switched animation programs at a particular point that really boosted it up and its been steadily evolving since.

14:30 Gambol Shroud ( Blake's weapon) is supposed to be a kusarigama/SMG combo if I remember correctly. She's pretty much the ninja of the team. Weiss and Blake are tied for my favorite on the team for just being the mage and ninja respectively. It is a great way too do it man! It is so good and after Monty's death they kept it going cause they wanted to keep his memory alive! One of the Characters ,Ren, was voiced by monty for the first 3 seasons till he died but they got his brother to voice him after!@@ReggieWolf
Others likely mentioned it but she betrayed him cos he wanted to kill all the crew members over just robbing the train. Also Yang is a character who is soooo much deeper than people perceived early on and that's what her trailer quote is indicating.
I love finding new reactors to RWBY. I found this show in 2015, and I've grown up with it just as it's developed. I love these characters, their development, the storyline, how they address so much emotional turmoil in the story. It's helped me through so much, and I can't wait to see what you think of it
Definitely start this series! It has addictive characters, an investing plot, and plenty of amazing fight scenes like these. The best part is that the show takes cues from fairy tales. The trailers represent the tales of Little Red, Snow White, Beauty & the Beast, & Goldilocks. It makes the story easy to get into.

Already subscribed when you did episode one. Also, in that reaction, you asked if Glenda Goodwitch (of the north) was a reference to the Wizard of OZ(pin). Further, though they don't have slippers, the main character is a Ruby; and she has an uncle (Scare)crow. Other esoteric references to the movie will be found later in the show. As for Ruby and Yang being sisters. Ruby is the spitting image of her silver eyed mother, Summer (now deceased); while Yang looks more like their blond haired father, Tai. Monty was very clever in naming the four main characters as well. Weise Snee is German and literally translates as white snow. In medieval English (Chaucer, Canterbury Tales) Blake was their word for black. Yang Zao Long (hope I spelled that right) is Chinese and roughly means Golden little dragon.
Not sure if its been covered, but the gun portion of the scythe is a high impact sniper rifle complete with multiple trigger points depending on its form.
The RWBY trailers as well as various shorts that they released between volumes are all canon. They are things that did happen even if the show proper doesn't cover them.
I'd say they did. Red Trailer Ruby visited her mother's grave, and seemingly that was the last time she visited before the Vytal Festival hence why she apologizes for not coming by in a while in V3. Weiss obviously would have had to fight the knight to be able to summon it, and her recitals are proven canon in V4. Blake's is the most straightforward as it is the exact moment she decides to leave Adam, and it portrays the stolen train car Weiss talks about in V1. Yang is going on a mission to find her mother, something grazed upon in V2 and V3 and explored in V4 and V5. Her encounter with Junior that night allowed her to have a resource for team RWBY's investigation in V2.
@bluecheese7447 i wasn't saying that the show proper never mentions those events, but rather that the trailers are the only direct depictions of them, and the fanbase is expected to be aware of what happened in the trailers. It's treated almost like the events of a previous season. This is notably not how trailers work for most shows, where the trailer is made from clips taken directly from the season.

Blake's weapon is a jerry-rigged deathtrap and I love it. A conventional pistol with a collapsible blade that uses the gun as a crosshilt, which has a ribbon attached to the handle (AND TRIGGER) so she can swing it around, with the ability to shoot it to alter it's momentum mid swing. Plus the sheath is a second, heavier blade so she can dual wield!
The music is even more impressive when you consider the fact that Casey Williams, the vocalist for the music, was only like 14 when she performed these songs
Oh man if you’re gonna react to rwby I have some disclaimers for the fandom 1) As the show progresses the story does as well and a lot of rwby fans are terrible with spoilers I’m not sure how it works but maybe having a mod or two could help? 2)Each season has an original soundtrack of character song that we’d like reactors to listen to if they can Rooster teeth let’s the music be reacted to but if a song reaction gets flagged they’ll help get it fixed 3) I hope you enjoy the show! Weiss (the white haired one) is the most similar to your traditional anime "Magical Girl", wielding her rapier like a magic wand, unleashing different "elemental dust" attacks as needed.
And this may have already have been covered, so bear with me. For Weiss’s trailer, the events are taking place in two separate places and times. The concert is a later event, presumably just prior to departing for Beacon. The other location with the Goliath Knight(?) is earlier and in a Schnee combat arena (or close enough going off the Schnee crest seen in the windows). The combat is arranged by Weiss to justify to her family that she can leave Atlas and train at Beacon instead. Notable also that while we recognize Weiss is always striving for absolute perfection, she is the one to most visibly display imperfection with the permanent dueling scar from the Knight across her left eye.
Their special abilities are called Semblances Ruby's Petal Burst Weiss has Glyphs Blake has Shadow & Adam has an ability that Absorbs kinetic energy before Slicing into a target with all of the power Yang's Burn the more damage she handles the more her Aura amps her Strength
Hey, Reggie!! I got some background about the trailers. Monty Oum did the red trailer on his own time while working on Red vs. Blue, the big series for Rooster Teeth at the time. When RT saw it, they said hell yes!! With Miles Luna & Burnie Burns, he crafted the first season on a limited staff & budget..... While they worked on Red vs. Blue!! The trailers blew up and the first season of RWBY was a total success. And continues to bring in new fans ten years later. Monty had even laid out the plot & storylines for 12 Volumes!! Sadly, Monty Oum loss his life unexpectedly during the second volume in 2015. Yet, Luna & Burns have kept his creation going!! Sorry, for the long post.... Yellow Trailer fun fact, the twin girls in the white & red dresses were Monty's original character models for Weiss & Ruby. Also, Yang's bar fight against Junior's henchmen is very loosely based on Kill Bill, specifically The Bride vs. the Crazy 88's fight scene.

Ruby has a scythe sniper rifle. Weiss has a rapier filled with dust that works like a multicolored pen but to me it looks like a revolver. Blake has like a short sword ,dual welding swords and a chain scykel.
- The White, Black, and Yellow trailers are canon backstory. The Red trailer was technically a proof of concept, so it's not canon (though I like to think of it as a dream Ruby had of being a Huntress). - The singer was only 13 or 14 when these trailers were made, loads of talent there. She's the primary vocalist for the entire series' soundtracks. - You'll meet Weiss (White, rhymes with 'ice') and Blake (Black) in episode 2 - In the White trailer, the girl is performing while remembering the battle. the revolving part of her sword loads up different kinds of Dust (each of which has/provides different powers) - the sheath of Blake's blade is metal and has an edge, it's essentially a bigger blade that fits over her regular blade. then she pulls the sheath off and she's dual wielding. - to quote Ruby in Ep 2, "It's also a gun." 90% of the weapons you see characters wielding can shift into some sort of long range weapon. - Just before the big robot showed up, Adam told her to "set the charges" Blake asked "what about the crew?" and Adam's response was "What about them?" Basically she doesn't agree with his bloodthirstyness. - seeing as you've already watched ep 1, you may recognise the guy leaving the bar as Yang walks over to talk to Junior. 😉 - Both Yang (Yellow) and Ruby use the recoil from their guns to help move around the battlefield - The DJ *was* shooting at her. - fun fact; the pair of girls Yang thrashes were early character designs for Ruby and Weiss - Monty Oum (RIP) was a martial artist himself so he believed in making fights be more 3D rather than just shifting back and forth along a straight line - The main characters, (and frankly most of the supporting cast) Are inspired by something. Fairy tales, books, history/mythology, etc. These 4 are all based on classic fairy tales (Red Riding Hood, Snow White, Beauty and the Beast, and Goldielocks) Junior is inspired by Baby Bear. - Also, the RWBY soundtracks are all original, and *all fire*. - It's an American made show, so technically, it's not anime (though there was an anime version made a couple years back)
Late to rhe party but theres two things that clue you into why Blake left Adam there. The first is the opening quote you read where it says your hopes have become ky burdens or soenthing. The second is when he says he will set the charges to blow the train and when Blake asks "What about the crew members?" His response was "what about them?". She clearly doesnt want to hirt inncoent people but Adam doesnt seem to think the same way
So Blake's weapon, Gambol Shroud, is a what's called a Variable Ballistic Chain Scythe, if you've ever heard of the kusarigama, a bladed weapon on a chain, it is similar to that, her ribbon is quite elastic and durable and attached to the trigger mechanism so she can use it to redirect the weapons trajectory mid air, she technically does also have two swords, gambol shroud has a slim katana blade when it's not folded into chain scythe/pistol mode, and it's sheath is a thick cleaver like blade itselff Also she is wearing a bow just fyi, it's hard to see cause it blends in with her hair, curse of black hair and black outfit in this animation style
Very good answer. Small expansion is that the bladed end of a kusarigama is similar to a kama, a one handed farming sickle that can just as easily double as a weapon. And chain carrying a weight on the end. And if any would still question of practicality of putting any kind of edge on Gambol Shroud’s sheath, one could explain it as the sheath having dust woven into the striking edge where the user and focus and sharpen their aura into a cutting edge.
It is admitedly uneven show on terms of quality, animation improve over time , writing has ups and downs, but I am genuienly interested in the story and want to see how it ends. I highly apprectiate that writers managed to surprise me with plot twists few times.

Even if you don't do a reaction to it (although many reactors do), you should definitely give it a listen, as it add colour and helps fill in gaps in the characters' motivations and stories.
There is a reason for the durability, which is explained a bit later on in the show... So I won't explain it here ^_^; ... Your ranking is actually pretty common, if I remember correctly.... Personally I might put Ruby first, but Yang is often people's favourite.
If you like the fight choreography on this, check out Dead Fantasy 1-6, also by Monte Oum (the animator for the trailers and early seasons of RWBY). It's characters (mainly girls) from Dead or Alive vs Final Fantasy, and it's every bit as good as this (if not better). Unfortunately, 6 is only partly done and will remain unfinished, since Monte abandoned it to work on RWBY and passed away before he could get back to it -- assuming he intended on actually finishing it up. It's *_seriously_* well done, and it's what got Rooster Teeth interested in giving Monte a chance to make his own show.
"Name one silver hair character who isn't cold" How about literally any elderly character? Uncle Iro from Avatar The Last Airbender, Professor Oak from the Pokémon Anime, the list goes on. Also, it's mis-shapen, not miss-happen.
All the main characters weapons are pretty cool and fun but yeah Blake’s weapon is the most insane and honestly the most versatile. Just wait and see I’m a huge RWBY fan and the main controversy with this series is whether or not it’s an anime as it’s a western animated series. Similar to Avatar Last Air bender it’s that western series that very much has the potential to be classified as one. Definitely recommend watching this as the series evolves each volume. Love your reaction keep up the good work.

The reason why Combatants are tough in this is their AURA It Protects them, Fuels their Semblance and gives them a HP system of sorts They even flow their Aura into their Weapons, that's why they're able to use them without trouble The twins that Yang fights in her trailer aren't That important anymore They're called the Malachite Twins

Definitely start this series! It has addictive characters, an investing plot, and plenty of amazing fight scenes like these. The best part is that the show takes cues from fairy tales. The trailers represent the tales of Little Red, Snow White, Beauty & the Beast, & Goldilocks. It makes the story easy to get into.

Already subscribed when you did episode one. Also, in that reaction, you asked if Glenda Goodwitch (of the north) was a reference to the Wizard of OZ(pin). Further, though they don't have slippers, the main character is a Ruby; and she has an uncle (Scare)crow. Other esoteric references to the movie will be found later in the show. As for Ruby and Yang being sisters. Ruby is the spitting image of her silver eyed mother, Summer (now deceased); while Yang looks more like their blond haired father, Tai. Monty was very clever in naming the four main characters as well. Weise Snee is German and literally translates as white snow. In medieval English (Chaucer, Canterbury Tales) Blake was their word for black. Yang Zao Long (hope I spelled that right) is Chinese and roughly means Golden little dragon.
Not sure if its been covered, but the gun portion of the scythe is a high impact sniper rifle complete with multiple trigger points depending on its form.
The RWBY trailers as well as various shorts that they released between volumes are all canon. They are things that did happen even if the show proper doesn't cover them.
I'd say they did. Red Trailer Ruby visited her mother's grave, and seemingly that was the last time she visited before the Vytal Festival hence why she apologizes for not coming by in a while in V3. Weiss obviously would have had to fight the knight to be able to summon it, and her recitals are proven canon in V4. Blake's is the most straightforward as it is the exact moment she decides to leave Adam, and it portrays the stolen train car Weiss talks about in V1. Yang is going on a mission to find her mother, something grazed upon in V2 and V3 and explored in V4 and V5. Her encounter with Junior that night allowed her to have a resource for team RWBY's investigation in V2.
@bluecheese7447 i wasn't saying that the show proper never mentions those events, but rather that the trailers are the only direct depictions of them, and the fanbase is expected to be aware of what happened in the trailers. It's treated almost like the events of a previous season.
This is notably not how trailers work for most shows, where the trailer is made from clips taken directly from the season.
Monty Oum was easily one of the best 3D animators, if not just animators of all time. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure he did all of these on his own

Blake's weapon is a jerry-rigged deathtrap and I love it. A conventional pistol with a collapsible blade that uses the gun as a crosshilt, which has a ribbon attached to the handle (AND TRIGGER) so she can swing it around, with the ability to shoot it to alter it's momentum mid swing. Plus the sheath is a second, heavier blade so she can dual wield!
The music is even more impressive when you consider the fact that Casey Williams, the vocalist for the music, was only like 14 when she performed these songs
The girls in white and red in the Yellow Trailer were designed off of concept art for Ruby and Weiss.

1) As the show progresses the story does as well and a lot of rwby fans are terrible with spoilers

Weiss (the white haired one) is the most similar to your traditional anime "Magical Girl", wielding her rapier like a magic wand, unleashing different "elemental dust" attacks as needed.

And this may have already have been covered, so bear with me. For Weiss’s trailer, the events are taking place in two separate places and times. The concert is a later event, presumably just prior to departing for Beacon. The other location with the Goliath Knight(?) is earlier and in a Schnee combat arena (or close enough going off the Schnee crest seen in the windows). The combat is arranged by Weiss to justify to her family that she can leave Atlas and train at Beacon instead.
Notable also that while we recognize Weiss is always striving for absolute perfection, she is the one to most visibly display imperfection with the permanent dueling scar from the Knight across her left eye.
Their special abilities are called Semblances
Ruby's Petal Burst
Weiss has Glyphs
Blake has Shadow & Adam has an ability that Absorbs kinetic energy before Slicing into a target with all of the power
Yang's Burn the more damage she handles the more her Aura amps her Strength
It's more fun to learn their semblances as the show tells you though, we don't actually get confirmation of Adam's semblance until later volumes.

Hey, Reggie!! I got some background about the trailers. Monty Oum did the red trailer on his own time while working on Red vs. Blue, the big series for Rooster Teeth at the time. When RT saw it, they said hell yes!! With Miles Luna & Burnie Burns, he crafted the first season on a limited staff & budget..... While they worked on Red vs. Blue!! The trailers blew up and the first season of RWBY was a total success. And continues to bring in new fans ten years later. Monty had even laid out the plot & storylines for 12 Volumes!!
Sadly, Monty Oum loss his life unexpectedly during the second volume in 2015. Yet, Luna & Burns have kept his creation going!!

Yellow Trailer fun fact, the twin girls in the white & red dresses were Monty's original character models for Weiss & Ruby. Also, Yang's bar fight against Junior's henchmen is very loosely based on Kill Bill, specifically The Bride vs. the Crazy 88's fight scene.

Ruby has a scythe sniper rifle. Weiss has a rapier filled with dust that works like a multicolored pen but to me it looks like a revolver. Blake has like a short sword ,dual welding swords and a chain scykel.

Fun thing, I made a dnd monk based on Yang. Even had special gauntlets for the "fire" aspect
- The White, Black, and Yellow trailers are canon backstory. The Red trailer was technically a proof of concept, so it's not canon (though I like to think of it as a dream Ruby had of being a Huntress).
- The singer was only 13 or 14 when these trailers were made, loads of talent there. She's the primary vocalist for the entire series' soundtracks.
- You'll meet Weiss (White, rhymes with 'ice') and Blake (Black) in episode 2
- In the White trailer, the girl is performing while remembering the battle. the revolving part of her sword loads up different kinds of Dust (each of which has/provides different powers)
- the sheath of Blake's blade is metal and has an edge, it's essentially a bigger blade that fits over her regular blade. then she pulls the sheath off and she's dual wielding.
- to quote Ruby in Ep 2, "It's also a gun." 90% of the weapons you see characters wielding can shift into some sort of long range weapon.
- Just before the big robot showed up, Adam told her to "set the charges" Blake asked "what about the crew?" and Adam's response was "What about them?" Basically she doesn't agree with his bloodthirstyness.
- seeing as you've already watched ep 1, you may recognise the guy leaving the bar as Yang walks over to talk to Junior. 😉
- Both Yang (Yellow) and Ruby use the recoil from their guns to help move around the battlefield
- The DJ *was* shooting at her.
- fun fact; the pair of girls Yang thrashes were early character designs for Ruby and Weiss
- Monty Oum (RIP) was a martial artist himself so he believed in making fights be more 3D rather than just shifting back and forth along a straight line
- The main characters, (and frankly most of the supporting cast) Are inspired by something. Fairy tales, books, history/mythology, etc. These 4 are all based on classic fairy tales (Red Riding Hood, Snow White, Beauty and the Beast, and Goldielocks) Junior is inspired by Baby Bear.
- Also, the RWBY soundtracks are all original, and *all fire*.
- It's an American made show, so technically, it's not anime (though there was an anime version made a couple years back)
Late to rhe party but theres two things that clue you into why Blake left Adam there. The first is the opening quote you read where it says your hopes have become ky burdens or soenthing. The second is when he says he will set the charges to blow the train and when Blake asks "What about the crew members?" His response was "what about them?". She clearly doesnt want to hirt inncoent people but Adam doesnt seem to think the same way

So Blake's weapon, Gambol Shroud, is a what's called a Variable Ballistic Chain Scythe, if you've ever heard of the kusarigama, a bladed weapon on a chain, it is similar to that, her ribbon is quite elastic and durable and attached to the trigger mechanism so she can use it to redirect the weapons trajectory mid air, she technically does also have two swords, gambol shroud has a slim katana blade when it's not folded into chain scythe/pistol mode, and it's sheath is a thick cleaver like blade itselff
Also she is wearing a bow just fyi, it's hard to see cause it blends in with her hair, curse of black hair and black outfit in this animation style
Very good answer. Small expansion is that the bladed end of a kusarigama is similar to a kama, a one handed farming sickle that can just as easily double as a weapon. And chain carrying a weight on the end. And if any would still question of practicality of putting any kind of edge on Gambol Shroud’s sheath, one could explain it as the sheath having dust woven into the striking edge where the user and focus and sharpen their aura into a cutting edge.
It's a short sword that folds into a gun the sheath is also a sword and that is just a black band tied to it

It is admitedly uneven show on terms of quality, animation improve over time , writing has ups and downs, but I am genuienly interested in the story and want to see how it ends. I highly apprectiate that writers managed to surprise me with plot twists few times.

Once you've finished the volume, make sure you go back and listen to the volume's soundtrack. Even if you don't do a reaction to it (although many reactors do), you should definitely give it a listen, as it add colour and helps fill in gaps in the characters' motivations and stories.

If you like the fight choreography on this, check out Dead Fantasy 1-6, also by Monte Oum (the animator for the trailers and early seasons of RWBY). It's characters (mainly girls) from Dead or Alive vs Final Fantasy, and it's every bit as good as this (if not better). Unfortunately, 6 is only partly done and will remain unfinished, since Monte abandoned it to work on RWBY and passed away before he could get back to it -- assuming he intended on actually finishing it up.
It's *_seriously_* well done, and it's what got Rooster Teeth interested in giving Monte a chance to make his own show.

I’m a huge RWBY fan and the main controversy with this series is whether or not it’s an anime as it’s a western animated series. Similar to Avatar Last Air bender it’s that western series that very much has the potential to be classified as one. Definitely recommend watching this as the series evolves each volume. Love your reaction keep up the good work.

The reason why Combatants are tough in this is their AURA
It Protects them, Fuels their Semblance and gives them a HP system of sorts
They even flow their Aura into their Weapons, that's why they're able to use them without trouble
